Sic Semper Tyrannis! That was what the demonstrators yelled in the streets. It was becoming a daily occurance, with the ban of demonstrations lifted and increased political liberties. Emperor Thomas I of Cotland had, under some pressure, agreed to reinstate the Parliament, and now it was leading yet again to the way it had been when Thomas had risen to power. He had vowed to make Cotland free of corruption, and he had succeded. Unfortunately the corrupt bastards had managed to Cling on and press through the reinstating of Parliament, and now the elected people were demanding that he release himself of more power. In short, they didn't want him anymore. Prepostorous! It was he who had placed them where they were, was it not? It was he who, of his own free will had abolished capital punishment in all but the most horrendous crimes (and even then they were just hung or shot), was it not? He had given them the power they had wanted, and now they called him a tyrant for not wanting to give up what little power he had left. 'Ungrateful bastards.'

Thomas looked at the twenty-five men in his office. They were his most trusted advisors. There were his son Joshua, General Horn from the Army, Admiral Robstien from the Navy and General Enevald from the Air Force. There was Minister Bøe from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Minister of the Treasury Gullmann, Minister Ulrich from the Ministry of Defense, Mr Davies and Mr Olsen from the civil service, Governor Moengen of Norway, and many more. All of them had a cruicial role in what was to happen next.

Over the past months, and very much in the secret, all the important links for governing Cotland had been moved from Cotlandstad and the locations there to secret locations in Norway, the birthplace of the first settlers in present-day Cotland. The public opinion of the Emperor and his reign was very strong there. In fact, it was strong throughout the Empire except in Cotland itself, and even there there were exceptions. The southern-most provinces were very happy with the Emperor, and they wanted to keep him. Anyway, as I said, the most important stuff was brought from Cotland to Norway, and this included blueprints for ships, planes, missiles, buildings, electronics, whatnots. It also included the Imperial Gold Reserve, which was 895 billion bullions strong. The final way out for the Empire to pay off debt, it had never been used. However, it would perhaps be needed now. Time would tell.

As for the military, as much military hardware as the Norwegian military advisors had predicted would be needed for a credible defense of not only Norway, but also the now-Cottish, soon to be Norwegian colonies had been moved to the locations where they were needed, and as much as possible had been withdrawn from Cotland itself. While on the outside Cotland appreared to be mighty and powerful, it really wasn't. SAM sites and ICBMs had been decommissioned and the nuclear warheads of the ICBMs safely dismantled, this too in secrecy and under close guard by Theta, one of Cotlands Black Operations forces to make sure that there would be no leaks. That was cruicial for the plan to succeed. Whatever military hardware that couldn't be moved was decommissioned or damaged beyond repair, and the soldiers that would be left over given long leaves. They would soon learn the truth of what was to happen.

"My Lord, the time has come," Mr Davies said, nodding towards the cameras.

"I know. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is a moment that will remain forever in the books of history. The end of the third Empire of Cotland."

"The end of the Empire of Cotland, and the return of the Kingdom of Norway."

Governor Moengen had been the one to propose this bold plan, and it had been given the approval of the Emperor after a long conversation with his son (the Emperors wife having died before the Empire became a reality). Now it was time to make it public, and the doors opened for the Emperor, who was clad in a black suit with a dark blue tie. Thomas took a deep breath before he walked confidently and proudly into the large room in the Imperial Palace in Cotlandstad where journalists from all over the world was waiting, having been called in just half an hour prior. All they had been told was that there were something big about to take place in the Imperial Palace. Now they would get to know a little bit more.

Thomas walked up to the podium which had been placed in the middle of the room, then turned to face the journalists.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I have a statement to make."

He paused for a moment, allowing the journalists to get ready. It was a nerve-wrecking few seconds before he continued.

"As you all know, there has been many demonstrations here in Cotland over the past few months, all of them demanding more power to the people. All of them screaming 'Sic Semper Tyrannis'. Am I really that much of a tyrant? Have not the people of Cotland had the right to do just what ever the hell they please as long as it is within the confines of the law? Have I not opened up again Parliament, which was a corrupt entity the day I closed it down seventeen years ago? Have I not granted all Cottish citizens basic human rights in the constitution? Yes, I have. And yet you demand more. Well, you might just get it.

As the Emperor of Cotland and Commander-in-Chief of all Cottish armed forces, I am hereby ordering all Cottish soldiers currently stationed within the region of Cotland to be immediately discharged from their military service with full pensions.

I am also issuing a Imperial Pardon to all inmates in the prisons in the region of Cotland and all so-called political prisoners throughout the Empire.

Finally, I am hereby announcing the return of all powers to the people of Cotland.

I am hereby abdicating from the throne of Cotland. This is due to the apparent lack of confidence I have with the Cottish people, and I don't think that its fair for me to remain on the throne when so few want me there. I shall leave this nation and head for the city of Oslo in Norway, where the Governor of Norway has asked me to reside while I decide what that is to become of me. Therefore, as my final act as Emperor of Cotland, I am hereby declaring the constitution of the Empire of Cotland as null and void, and I humbly hand the power over to Parliament. May they rule you with wisdom and strenght. As of twelve noon today, which is in about an hour, I shall be released of all duties and privilegies given to me by the people of Cotland. By then, I shall be on a plane leaving Cotland. Thank you."

The Emperor ignored the many questions that came as he walked towards the exit while Minister Bøe and Governor Moengen walked up to the podium. Moengen started speaking first.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, after a quick referendum in Norway, it is clear that the Norwegian people wish to remain under the rule of Thomas, the Emperor of Cotland. Therefore earlier today, on behalf of the people of Norway, I asked if the Emperor wished to assume the post of King of Norway. He respectfully declined.

I therefore asked the next on the list given to me by the Storting, the Norwegian popular assembly, which was the son of the Emperor, Prince Joshua. After thinking it over, he finally accepted the position. Thank you."

Then Minister Bøe stood up.

"All nations that have embassies and consulates in the Empire will naturally be allowed to retain them, and those who wish to have embassies in the Kingdom of Norway will also be allowed to establish embassies there. However, that will be dealt with on a later date. I would also like to use the occation to announce my formal resignation as Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Empire of Cotland. Thank you."

Then the two men just stood there, waiting for questions from the journalists. There were sure to be many...

The Emperor read the announced with shock. "Well old boy went through with it." He knew it was coming. "The Kingdom of Norway huh? Well in that case it shall remain as such and things have not changed." He picked up the phone to his secretary to call in the cabinet, who were waiting outside. He would address his cabinet as such:

"Ladies & gentlemen. The Empire of Cotland ceases to be. The Kingdom of Norway has risen. The Empire will retain them as a close allie, the leadership has not changed, only the system. The Empire will, therefore, provide any assistance necessary and allow for any necessary assistance immediately. The Layartebian embassy shall be moved to Oslo and a new one constructed. I have already initiated plans to evacuate our embassy in Cotlandstad. However, we must keep a close eye on the territory in Russia. It will be a vacuum of leadership. Terrorists, rogue states, and chaos will undoubtedly arise through the lands and we must ensure that the individuals residing there do not ship it to the Empire."

Official Statement

The Empire continues its friendship with the Cots as the Kingdom of Norway. We will reopen an embassy in Oslo and remain a strong allie.

As the Premier read his morning papers he noticed that the Emprie of Cotland had fallen...no wait, been replaced, sort of, by the Kingdom of Norway. He was, however, very glad that they seeked to maintain their alliances. The Celtayoshi Premier dispatched a congratulatory note to the new King, and stated the intentions of Celtayoshi to re-open an Embassy in Olso. He also sent a note of thanks to the outgoing Emperor, who had for so long stood by Celtayoshi, and the two had got on well together.

Statement from the Office of Foreign Relations


Were proud at both the Cottish people and the Cottish government. The Cottish people have rid themselves of an imperialist entity allowing Panthean to move into South Russia and re educate the masses. Teaching them what Nationalism truly is. But for the former Emperor Thomas and the Cottish government were are also grateful that they learned of their Norwegian nationalism and decided to relocate in a place that they truly belong. Maybe now that Cotland is no longer an imperialist juggernaut, Panthea can start to open communications with the new kingdom and amend pass aggression especially in Israel.

The modified Boeing 747-400 ER touched down at Gardermoen Int'l Airport outside Oslo at exactly 1242 PM, and it immediately rolled into the military part of the airport. There, two companies of soldiers stood, dressed in their best uniforms and presenting arms. A band was also there, and the moment the doors of the 747 opened, a lone trumpeter started playing the royal march (http://www.mil.no/multimedia/archive/00012/13__Parademarsj_12486a.WMA). The signal that the King was present. While he played, the new King walked down the steps and onto Norwegian soil, followed by his father and the entourage.

After a short exchange of plesantries, the King and the entourage drove off towards the Royal Palace in downtown Oslo. Soon, the King would make his first public apperance.

Press releases

Oslo (NTB) - Earlier today, Prince Joshua of Cotland arrived in Norway and was escorted to the Royal Palace. There, he have decided to assume the name Harald as the name he will use as King of Norway. He will be the fifth King of Norway to use this name.

There will be a press conference in the Royal Palace later today at 5 o'clock. All journalists are invited to attend.


Oslo (NTB) - It's official. Thomas Rothsky, formerly Emperor of Cotland, has been granted full citizenship in Norway, and he had decided to run for the post of Prime Minister in the upcoming elections, which are scheduled to September (two months from now). Further news will be presented in the 5 o'clock press conference at the Royal Palace in Oslo.
