Government

The city is lead by the Borgia line of rule. With the current leader being Cesar Borgia, who has ruled for 6 years, and has lead to some sweeping rebublican reforms throughout Milan, and has stated that his goal is to bring the governance of the state similar to that of the United Netherlands, an republic.

Army

Milanese army includes 3 cavalry divisions, one being light cavalry, one medium, the last one being the heavy cavalry. Each division is formed around 10 squadrons of 100 men. These troops, are famous and respected throughout Milan, and are commonly of royal birth. They are well armed and well mounted, and even their training is one of the most rigorous in all of Europe.
The actual number of cavalrymen stands at around 2,400.

The Milanese Infantry is one of the weakest in all of the mainland, but is better trained then the British Redcoats (OOC: It is a little known fact that the Redcoats were one of the worst trained infantries in all of Europe). It is poorly armed and doesn't have enough officers-for all officers are required to be of royal descent-, neither do those have the experience or training to fullfil their duty against the other troops of the Italian peninsula. Number of regiments, around 2000 men each, is 5. This brings the total amount of soldiers to 10,000.

Artillery is, surprisingly, argueably the best in all of Italy. Most of the pieces are new 6 inch and 9 inch, and their numbers are robust. As whole, Milanese field artillery has some three regiments of 36 cannons, 108 in total.

I'm not sure about how was in realy history, but in my opinion, your army is too big. I doubt Milan and soroundings could recruit and support 25.000 armed men. But corect me if i'm mistaking...

I think I would agree with Wolfenbach here. Maybe around 3,000 cavalry and 9,000 infantry. Though historically Italian gunners were much sought after so the artillery arm may well be strong.

In uncertain times as these it is important for Catholic nations to protect one another from the growing protestant threat. So we offer your Grace a mutual protection pact, so that togeather we may remain when this protestant wave has blown away. If you that is not acceptable to you we shall also offer the hand of Greitchen Fullor Von Hannover, a princess and 4th in line for the principality of Hannover. As her dowry we offer 250,000 Crona, she is 23 and quite beautiful. We await your response.

I graciously accept your proposal, and I hope that this may help to create a strong friendship between our nations.

This action may provoke France into attacking Milan. France is technically at war with the Holy Roman Empire and may see this alliance as a threat, also as a pretext for annexing part of Italy. Be warned.

I must say I'm in the same time flattered due the fact you copied my News Thread and added your numbers :p, but also a bit disappointed that you didn't bother to come up with anything even attempting to be original :( How splendid efforts can we expect from you in the future?

Anyways, good that you didn't wank this army. Seems pretty nice.

Letter to the King of Milan:

We request that in the case of war with our empire your kingdom does NOT support Lombardy in any way. We are also prepared to pay a sum of 50.000 florins to support our 'suggestion'.

Sweden is worried about Austrian expansion in the region of Lombardy and would be grateful if the great Dukedom of Milan would meet any attempts by the Austrians on Lombard soil would be met with force from Milan.

King Karl X

I would be most interested in the purchase of 40 artillery guns for the Russian army, we have heard you have the best cannon manufactory abilities in Europe and we would like to acquire some for our artillery arm.

The Dukedom of Milan fully supports the actions of our Hapsburg brothers in Austria against the evil Lombards.

OOC: I am a Hapsburg state, that is why I am endorsing them

As you have declared support for Austrians in Italy, you leave us no choice but to declare WAR Against you and your people. If you recant your support, we may decide to halt military actions.

His Majesty King Louis XV of France

Ships of the French Navy have been dispatched to blockade Milanese ports and strangle their trade.

As it seems that we were already at war with France an army of 30,000 infantry 2,000 cavalry and 30 guns including 10 siege cannons has been dispatched to protect Milan. The army guarding the French border has been at arms for quite some time and was ready to march only hours after receiving the order.

To France we must ask that your troops quit Italy completely or the remainder of our Western Army shall begin attacking Burgundy and other French states. The army shall be lead by Cesar Borgia's own brother by marriage Count Friedhand Fullor Von Hannover. The army will arrive shortly. Of course if Milan should happen to want to back out of this fight so shall we.

By God almighty's divine hand you have inheireted the Principality of Hannover. The previous Count disobeyed imperial orders and began to attack the French, he and his sons were also excommunicated from the Catholic church. In conclusion you are the closest Hannover male and heir to the house of Hannover. In Hannover there is little left after the Count marshalled a huge army and marched to the Piedmont, but whatever is left is yours.

As it turns out the French were going to betray us anyway, so the Count will recieve Corsica as a new dukedom, however he shall be continually hostile to you.

Signed:
His Most Gracious Imperial Majesty Francis Von Lorraine I
