[OOC] Taking a Break

Praetonia
16-10-2005, 18:08
[OOC: Over the past few days a combination of things - Hogsweat's deletion, lots of my friends and allies leaving, the general obnoxiousness of the moderation staff - have really destroyed my enjoyment for this site. Im not making an IC post, and Praetonia has not been destroyed or anything like that, it's just frozen. I may or may not return, and I may still continue to post on General and on offsite forums, but for the time being I dont see any real point in continuing to play this game.

Hopefully at some point in the future, reforms will be made or certain individuals will be replaced, but I dont see it happening to be honest. NationStates is a bloody brilliant game which has sadly been marred by a few unpleasant incidents. Thanks to all the people I met here - Sarzonia, Hogsweat, Jordaxia, Guffingford, Bob-Bob, Aust and many other wonderful people. I'll still be logging on to IMs etc, and I'll try to keep in touch, and who knows - maybe one day in the future we will cross swords ICly once again.]

This sucks. All the good players I admire are leaving... :( Let's hope this is not the final yet.

I'll still be here! But now most of my efforts are oriented elsewhere, instead of NationStates. Prae, but invade Britain with Malaysia!

[ooc:] Bye Praetonia. Hope to see you again when/if you decide to return to RP. I haven't RPed for long enough to meet you, or any of the others who left, but still.

Ahhh...I felt the same way back in early February. Then I took a 150-day deletion break, and came back a few weeks ago. When I came back, I was glad to see familiar faces still here, like Sarzonia, you, Pacitalia, AMF, and others. But now that another familiar face is getting out, it sends shivers down my spine that other people that I thought would be here forever might get the same idea. I'm sorry to hear that Hogsweat's deletion crossed the line with you, but I hope that you'll return like I did. It's not as easy to completely give it up as you think it is.

II will never die, just a new order of RPers is rising. These things come in cycles. The "Golden Age", so to speak, of RPing is finished, but a new age is beginning.

Anything but that! I certainly need some people that I can look from down here and say "Gosh, meaby some day I'll be as good as them", and even knowing that will never happen it's a damn nice to read some well written RP by the guys like Praetonia (my ultimate favourite  ), Sarzonia (who has always helped me with my n00b-questions) and the always-scaring AMF. Now this place gets filled by even worse newbies than I am, which is BAD, and are so few role models left for them...
Van Luxemburg
16-10-2005, 18:55
that's correct, but we have to move on and become the same rolemodels as Prae and others were for us. this will hopefully help the "new" Newbies becoming the next generation, after, say... my deletion. (i'm not wishing for it, but it could happen.... not in the coming 10 years, I think now.)

Indeed, loosing these players is something I would have never liked to dealt with, but it's happening..perhaps we should all get together in a weak and make a final mourning RP?

Ah, good. Someone will stay with me on 'till the bitter end. I myself will never leave until the number of active nations drops below 1,000, and even then I might stay on so I can pwn all the UN rankings. :D

Amen. But, with all the new nations springing up (albeit bad RPers), it's not likely to happen anytime soon. Currently, there are something like 111,000 nations.

Not all the new nations are bad RPers. Case in point, uh.... well.... er.... Anyway, yes, it will be a while, but remember that not too long ago there were over 130,000 active nations.

I know that all of them aren't. I just met one a few days ago that was very good for a reletively inexperienced RPer. I'm not trying to stereotype anyone. And I think I was deleted when there were 130,000, so this comes as a surprise.

Lots of people are leaving. It seems the "golden age" was this summer (125,000 to 135,000 active nations any given day). In the past 2-3 months, we've had Sinuhue, Hyperslackovicznia, Eutrusca, Hogsweat, Praetonia, Sanctaphrax, Skinny87, Dragons Bay (IIRC), FairyTInkArisen, and Goobergunchia leaving and SalusaSecondus and Max Barry going more or less inactive, while very few notable new players have come up.

Praetonia, I've had only limited IC contact with you, mainly through IPS, but I did enjoy RPing with you, even if it was just me buying stuff. You had some of the finest naval designs on NS, hands down, and you were one of the best naval RPers I've ever seen. NS will suffer from your absence. Best wishes to you as well, and here's hoping (perhaps a bit misguidedly) that you change your mind and come back some day. Godspeed.

--Dave, the player behind Hal

P.S. And Sarzonia, if you leave...well, I just hope you decide not to. I'd really hate to see both you and Prae gone. Remember you've still got friends on NS, both of you.

I figured i would post this that you posted in the lineart forum, as it applies to this and hogsweat's deletion.

There are no winners to this debate, but the loser is clear. It's the players' confidence in the moderation staff to do their jobs fairly and justly.

Its gonna be sad here without you, hope to still see you on Lineartinc forum.

As Sarz says: You've gone, Skinny has gone: Sarzonia might go too, Sanctaphrax is gone: A big bunch of my best allies and people I'd expect to stick by me if anything went awry (and damnit you all did) and some people i'd return the favour too.

So it appears that the Golden Age is over. Too bad a only joined during the beginning of its decline. Hopefully semi-veterans like myself, Macabees (real vet.), Derscon, Guffingford, and others we all know and love will stay and begin a new one. I sure haven't found a good RP in ages. So long and take care.

OOC: Wow. Damn. We weren't ever really on good terms, either IC or OOC. But I was looking forward to kinda starting fresh, becoming OOC friends, having an IC RP. But I guess not any time now.

Yeah, Pschyco is right. From the minute I joined over a year ago II was ever so slightly declining and dying. And then at one point it started dying faster and faster. In the last couple weeks its just been hurtling down. And now, it's done it looks like. I really want to stay on II and try to 'make another golden age'. But with everyone leaving, I dont think it will be quite as fun. And some other RPers and I are thinking of making like a second forum, and if so I'd probably not be able to manage II.

It's sad.:(

Jesus, sarzonias gone too, truely the last of us vets are dying off. I may be one of the unsung heros (Macs words not mine) but this is really going to lessen my enjoyment of the game, don't forget about TIN leaving, Eurcustria leaving, Tink leaving...

But then NS started off small didn't it, we came and developed and learned, we whewre all small, poor Rpers, maybe this is the end of the goldern age, maybe the start of a new one-I came at the end of a golden age as well, After the fall of GODAD (Though I was there for it's 2nd incarnation.) I hope I'm right and that we are just entering a intermidate period.

Another golden age will appear. Players such as yourself will become wise veterans, and newer players like myself and Borman Empire will become neither new nor old...veterans from the end of a golden age, and the beginning of another.

Seeing as so many people are leaving, I've decided to.......not leave. Heh, what would II do with out me? ;)

Yes, please. SU speaks the truth. When I first read about all of this "deletion mess" I was dumbfounded. Now, I am still in shock. Please, Sarz, don't go. What would I.I. be without you? The faces of I.I. are leaving...and I'm still in the dust. People I used to idolize, loved, saw as the greats of the worlds, are splitting apart due to a string of arguements. If the world is to fall apart, I'm still gonna be in ashes of all of it. Sanct', Prae', Skinny', and maybe you...hmmm...Without you guys and Hoggy, I dunno where I'd be.

I have no idea whre this was going, nor why I said it, but I needed to get it out.

Lets face it the golden age had to come to an end. But not this way. This Golden age isnt just slowly falling. Its beinging shot down like a plane of the Battle of Britian. I came here around Oct or Nov and when i saw these guys I wanted to be just like them. i wanted to be known like them. Though Im not as known i still look up to these guys. Now with my country coming up on its First ever aniversy I cant help but be sad that most of the guys i looked up to a year ago are gone. This is truly an end of an era.

It occurs to me that the one way to take power away from the moderators is to simply go to forums we control. Use our stats as they exist here, but just RP where moderators can't abuse or misuse their power.

EDIT: I'm with Pacitalia. Some day the mods are going to screw up royally and we will have cause to have the current oligarchs purged.
