The some what large but stealthy probe, drifted in the void targeting a system just at the edge
Of union space was it in another nations territory? Maybe, the sleek utilitarian probe witch was over fifty meters long stealthy zoomed in to a system its scanners poised to make detailed analysis about military information and government buildings. The color of the slender probe was black it was also equipped with an N space cloaking system enough to block out detection..

The slender black unmanned object drifted slowly it did a general scan of the system

The union knew it was time to pull its weight, to be a true power you needed influence and inelegance, secrets = black mail intel = power hat is a given

(ooc for those wanting information this is a prelude to an intellgaince and or covert ops rp, Now I want to lay out ground rules, first of all no invincible OMFG j000 can spy on jeee I have a counter ub3r OMFG I p0wn intei0gance system, and ill detect j000 always hahahaha… I don’t want any of that, and I don’t want wank space omg I detect all your cloaks every time instantly and easily ok ?, no cloaks are ub33r! they can be detected mine has a few flaws witch you can exploit but it wont be easy so I don’t want any invincible cloaks.

Further more if I plan to assassinate your leader or a high official lets work it out if you agree to it or what ever don’t go switching him or her or it off as a damn clone.. that’s just n00bish and I don’t want him her or it to be OMFG invicib0l!!!! that’s all .. note I used for the most part in my block out detection line that means you can detect them but only if they come ub3r close to you or you find out the frequancy at witch the N space cloak is resonating at.)

Far, far away a small blue and white orb swings about on its great traverse around the major star in a twin system. Invisible to the eye of any observer a fleet of shuttles cruise the void between off-world settlements across the two solar systems. The primary world, known as The Kadell sits small and insignificant to the larger planets in the system especially an opaque coloured gas giant several million kilometres away. Beneath those clouds a relatively small population conducts it affairs in the great cities of the surface and a few of the ones below. With a 12% landmass it really was a mostly blue and white world. An icy moon called Glacean was home to several million the next largest settlement beyond that a small mining settlement around the gas giant was the next port of call before settlement had headed towards the twin star.

All citizens knew that beyond the great enveloping darkness other civilisations had blossomed, and been reaped before there own and that still others were writing their destiny across the stars but there’s was a silent existence, one of solitude and stability secluded from the noise of the galaxy. Historical conditioning had made them wary to venture beyond what was to them, a safe oasis, a refuge from terror and invasion from a harsh and otherwise indifferent universe. They were not naïve but cautiously guarded and monitored the nosily traffic that passed their system. They were not however prepared for being the ones spied on…

How’s this?

(Out standing post!)

One of the small probes headed towards the system at amazing speeds, it suddenly came to a stop several hundred kilometers form the target, it began a massive advanced scan of the planet and system. The scanners would revile much, much more than nay one would have thought.

ooc: hope you don't mind my using a planet in the sol as the target of your probe

Pluto Orbit

Pluto, a positively frigid place to live and yet, to nearly ten million Largentians it was tradition to live there and to them tradition meant something. They had settled these lands and they had not come easily and they were in no position to lose them, especially to a nation they would soon find they knew nothing about.

As the probe swept over what appeared to be Pluto's bleak wind-swept plains a peice of land relatively small, about 1% of the entire surface but you can never judge a book by its cover and if the probe were able to look below the surface it would see an efficient machine. A war machine? Perhaps, but it was far more than that. Dio Ade Largentone was isolated to say the least and it had to fend for itself. It was forced into producing its own income and defending its own borders and it had done so vert successfully to say the least.

Across a small void sat New Largent, situated on Charon. New Largent, unlike its counterpart had no real civilian population. It served a single purpose, preserve its sister colony. It docked nearly four battlegroups either on the surface and on its station, and also was home to nearly 500,000 military personel. However, should the probe look over to New Largent it would be confronted with black domes under which some of the galaxies most technologically advanced ships and equiptment sat, waiting for a foolish opponent to challenge the power that was the Militaristic Union.

Charon Space, LNS Sextant

In the shadows of Charon sat the LNS Sextant, leader of the Charon 1st Reconnaissance Group. Composed of ten ships the fleet was the first line of defense against hostile or unwanted presences. They had become very good at what they did over the years. Today was no exeption.

Captain Boulin sat with his crew of twenty men in the Sextant scanning the monitors and waiting. That was his job, to watch and wait. He was a man of great patience, which was to be expected given his job descirption.

It had been months since any real activity and he was growing weary of the position. Today however, was his lucky day. Scanners picked up a tiny hint of energy coming from Pluto's orbit. Given the lack of traffic on the planet it was easy to pick out targets. The scanners registered less energy ommited than that from, say, a toaster, but it was enough to keep an eye on especially since such distances and such small reading can give misleading results.

Within moments the group was out of the shadows and heading into Pluto orbit to watch for any activity. They were lightly armed but no less, armed. Their greatest asset however was their fealty to the great nation which they served. No harm would ever come to it.

If the alien probe was capable of surprise then it may have raised an electronic eyebrow as it calculated the population of the main planet, in total it was far less then a billion. Despite this there was a plethora of satellites cast around the planet and its smaller moon. Although there was obvious communication infrastructure barely a whisper was being released from the settlements, either deliberately or unintendedly they were shielding their radio signals.

The atmosphere had a high concentration of oxygen and small traces of methane, sulphur, chlorofluorocarbons and other industrial emissions. There was also a weak trace of radioactive elements indicative that it was either the residual trace of a larger release of this civilisation had a small nuclear fuel sector. At higher resolution some of the visible features became apparent. Five space elevators radiated from the main planet and another two on the moon between which a variety of cargo and possibly passenger shuttles ferried in between. Beyond this a large cargo ship was cruising in from the direction of the other system.

None of the interplanetary shuttles seemed particularly advanced at first, many of the larger craft used centrifugal forces to generate artificial gravity and they all travelled at modest speeds based on chemical fuels. Their design was unusual, almost organic in nature, a design feature that reoccurred on the space elevator platforms and the satellites in orbit. Twinkling lights on the moons surface revealed open-pit mines and the possible entrances to sub-terrain settlements.

On the main planet the various islands and sub-continents were spread across the climatic zones with vast tracks of ocean in-between. There were many cities with populations of at least a million, a few of which appeared to rise as isolated islands in the middle of the ocean. The oceans themselves were crossed with a busy traffic of various ships and in the skies a few jet craft ran through the clouds. An interesting feature was the lack of extensive agriculture necessary to feed these concentrated populations.

The rest of the information would have to wait as the probe positioned itself about to intercept the intermittent tight bandwidths of information that occasionally shot out into space…

System Capital: Kallaktria-Urban (on The Kadell)
Estimated population of The Kadell: 400-600 million
Estimated total population: 600-800 million
Defence capability:
- Globally positioned missile silos on the planet
- Missile silos positioned on Glacean (the moon)
- Defence satellites around The Kadell (missile armed)
- Detected deep-space monitoring stations
- Space-fighter platforms around The kadell

Technology: space age, extensive information network, off-world settlements, small-scale orbital shipyards, possible hyperspace capability, lack of easily identified industrial plants, off-world mining activities, trans-system settlements…

In plutonian space: the probe scanned the entire planet and fleet subtly it was barely noticeable it floated over to an asteroid attempting to hide with in it, its scans would revile allot of information, the information transmitted by the object, the world was then marked for possible first contact operations as the probe just sat there scanning.

Mean while the other probe was drawing closer to the planet hopefully cutting through the radio wave block, it went along scanning the ships and facilities the information was transmitted, back in much the same manner as its cousin.

((I thought that Star Trek probes were usually no bigger then a torpedo. Fifty meters is huge... although it makes sense if the other 80% of the probe is the cloaking device.))

Plutonain Orbit

The Sextant and the rest of the group simply hovered in oribit around Pluto. Nothing had shown up, but thats not to say that nothing was there. Captain Boulin was not about to leave his post just yet, if there was something here he was determined to find it. Still, there was little he could do but watch and wait.

Meanwhile on the surface some officials had been notified of the detection. Taking advantage of the situation some GBTS (Ground Based Tychon Scanners) were being tested. The particles in the field had no mass and so once they met any physical object the energy given off by the particles should change and could be read back on the ground or by ships that knew certain passwords and frequencies. Yet, it was definately an extreme idea and success was not assured by any means.

Several minutes later the scan the scan was complete: nothing
Although, it could just have been the fact that the probe was hiding behind a meteor. The hunt would have to continue.

Machiavelli Station, Saturn

It wasn't a long trip really. Well, actually it was quite a long trip but in space terms it was short. The probe, still cloaked slowly drifted away from Pluto and Charon with all the information it needed. It had turned its sights to a large object in Saturn orbit, the current center of Largentian commerce in the outer system. It was Machiavelli International Space Station hovering in orbit around Saturn.

Unlike Pluto and Charon, Largentian installations on the station were wide open for everyone to see and had no military presence what-so-ever. A fairly large weakness given the amount of goods and information Largent had stored on and in the station. However, they had been given no trouble...yet.

The probe only had to gaze down through windows to see all the Largentian officials and employees running around doing everything from dull paper work all the way to making critical trade desicions involving the TNA (Trade Network Association) of which it was becoming a more active member. Everything was fairly wide open.

Right near these offices the probe easily would have watched Largentian cargo ships going off in all directions delivering a wide variety of cargo to all different locations all across the Sol. Most of the ships, in fact all of the ships, had no escorts and really had no need for them. One by one they drifted past the probe, paying it no attention at all. Everything was business as usual.

New Largent, Pluto

"You are sure that you detected something?"

"It was small but there was definately a non-natural presence in the Plutonian system. It is most likely cloaked."

"Well then, why couldn't you find it?"

"Like I said, it was cloaked."

"You said it probably was." Boulin was facing an inquiry from Largentian officials concerning the recent security alert that had proved to be a monumental waste of time and money. Largentian officials were displeased to say the least. "We have been running scans for the past day and we have nothing... zip-o."

"I am sorry, but I am sure that we must have missed something." The interrogation continued like this for several more minutes of officials accusing Boulin and him side-stepping these accusations, but just bearly. In the end the officials were semi-pleased and had come to a compromise.

"Very well, we trust your judgement and experience. You will not be punished and we will raise the alert level from green to yellow, but no more. You will return to your post at Charon and we will simply put a few scout ships in orbit to do periodic sweeps." Boulin bowed and left.

7:00 News

"Welcome to the seven o' clock news on the New Largent News Network. Today, in response to security threats that turned out to be nothing, Captain Boulin of the 1st Charon Reconaissance Group faced allegations from a board of officials in the New Largent sate house.

"He was found innocent after almost two hours of questioning and was ordered to return to his post at Charon. He will face to disciplinary action.

"In other news, officials have decided that to be cautious in light of security threats they have moved the Alert Level from green to yellow. Residents are told not to worry and that it is simply a precautionary measure and few steps will be taken in response to the higher alert level."

the probe stayed with in hiding distance of the planet transmitting signals the Union would not attempt to make contact until this nation demonstrated it had FTL capabilities. The object waited quietly.

OOC: (tag), thats not hte reason for this post tho :D

Anyway befor i start need to ask a few simple questions, one is your probe with its cloak in real space and is pysicly there? Two when your probe activates its scanners have any form of energy spike and three is the Cloak in any shape way or form useing Dimentional technolagy to hide it.

(For your first question yes and no its in null space basically the space in between universes, for your second question yes it dose that’s un avoidable, the union has tiered to take steps to prevent a noticeable energy spike but its nonetheless there and I think my first answer finished your third question .

To further elaborate my cloaking device is able to cloak it from most sensors even gravity sensors, unless you have N space scanners or have the right frequency of energy the thing is using , further more its physically in N space.)

OOC: lol well it wouldnt be if it came to one of my Core systems, the Real barrier would rip it back any of the colonal systems maby depends if it effects particals in real space. I want to know so i can make a decent post.
The Fedral Union
16-10-2005, 00:34
(ooc: well when the probe is in n space it affects nothing in real space at all, it would depend how big your barrier is, the scanners would scan for the barrier then the probe would phase in to N space then when its to the point were its passed the barrier its goes back in to phasing and un phasing also note it dose not make a gravmetric imprint. How ever if you want to detect the probe ill give you a way to do it)

With the elevated security threat Pluto had to notify Largent Prime on Earth and all other colonies. It sent a FTL communication to Earth, Mercury, Mars, Neptune and Machiavelli. The message simply stated that an object had been detected and could not be accounted for. It suggested that all other regions keep watch.

Five… Four… Three… Two… One and jump. The captain of the Dragask a freight carrying ship engaged the Quantum Drive and jumped 320,000,000 kilometres through space towards the lonely station in orbit around the gas giant Lumendria.

The probe continued to gather information detailing geography, government, physiology and history…
