the Vought XF-5u. had the US navy not cancelled the program days before the first flight, it quite likely have been the world's first V/STOL fighter.
The name comes from the pancake-like shape of the plane, a result of the low-aspect wings.

Oh, that. No, not all too interested in VTOLs, I have my fill of them, I call them helicopters.
But one would think it should be easy to find a plane that floats in this wide universe that we rule in.
Where have all the floatplanes gone?

You could try contacting Roycelandia, i'm not sure if he still RPs mainstream II any more but he does like old airplanes, particularly Sunderlands...
If you want more modern stuff try contacting Crookufr he might be hdining some Be-40 and Be-200s soemwhere.

As nice as sunderlands were, to my knowledge they could not carry torpedoes, becaause of the small wooden bomb racks on tracks they used, this would drasticly limit the size of bombs (not bombload) thaty could be carried.
I'll look into getting Be-40 or Be-200 though, those are OK, I guess.
State Aviation offers some civilian piston aircraft that can be converted to military aircraft. Are you interested?

As long as it can carry a pair of torpedoes and float.
Added bonuses if:
It is a purpose built seaplane (not a converted landplane\floatplane)
It has long range (over 2,000 miles)
Can carry more than 2 torps (or equal measure of bombs and rockets)
Can carry a 3" cannon in the nose or 5" on the side.
Has defensive armarments (gun turrets)

The Recreational Luxury Flying Ship (RLFS-1) looks like a good canidate. It's designed for making trips around the Eaglin Sea.

It can fly transit of over 3,000 miles, but has a base range of 1,500 miles. External tanks can remedy this, however. It can carry 4 Mk. 48 torpedos or 4 Hydra rocket pods. A test was done and a 3 inch cannon IS possible in the nose, but a 5 inch is not, unforutnatly. Several M2 .50 cal machine guns can be placed on the viewports as well.

The plane looks perfect!
How much?
6 million apiece, $1 billion for production rights

I'll buy production rights.
I could also use a few for their intended purposes as well, and make a small airline.
I see they are Amphibious as well.
May I rename it?
Thinking along the lines of "CRP-1"
I will also purchase a dozen, rush delivery.
Total bill: $1,072,000
