One B-52 bomber was headed out to the Atlantic on its way to test a 40 kt nuclear bomb. Just a few miles south, south-west off the coast of Libya at roughly 22 N and 9o W, an engine blew.
In a frenzy, one of the men bumped the lever, which caused the nuclear bomb to arm and, as the belly of the plane opened, it dropped downwards.
As the bomb was just a quarter of a mile from the surface of the ocean, the bomb blew. Within seconds, the nuclear blast reached Libya. The plane, in the mean time, crashed into the ocean, killing all people onboard.
