Scandavian States

"Anything big on the agenda?" Empress Lien asked.

Duchess Asiya Saleh, her Director of Foreign Services, noded, "Yes, I want to open trade negotiations with the Greater Prussian Empire."

The Empress gave her aunt a sharp look, "You know the rules; dialogue and individual treaties, but you are not to accept membership."

"Is that a yes, then?" The excitement was visible on Asiya's face.

"Oh, I suppose," came the nonchalant reply.

"Good, I'll get to drafting a message right now," with that, Duchess Alexandria left to do her duties for the day.

Some time later a message was sent directly to the Emperor of Greater Prussia, simply because the Greater Prussian Empire did not have any diplomatic agencies.

FR: Duchess Asiya Saleh, Imperium of Scandavian States
SUB: Trade Negotiations

One has to merely look at a map of Haven, with its own territories and member-state mainlands, to realize that Greater Prussia occupies a place of geopolitical important within the region. Obviously, the Imperium desires contact and good relations with those whose day-to-day choices might effect the region and the Imperium itself. For that reason I, on behalf of Empress Lien Larsen, have decided to invite you to negotiations that will, hopefully, open cordial relations and start a flow of trade between our two great nations. I sincerely believe that prosperity leads to peace, and if vast resources at the disposal of both our nations can be leveraged correctly, then perhaps there will be peace between our two empires for generations to come.

I welcome your offer for prosperity and peace. For too long the nations of Haven have viewed the Greater Prussian Empire with loathing hatred, when all we intended on bringing was the very thing you wish to have between us.

Where will this conference be held? Shall it be in Scandinavian States? Or will it be within the borders of the Greater Prussian Empire?

I await your response.

The Empress has preference that negotiations be held in New Copenhagen, our capital. If you are amicable, we should discuss the schedule for the negotiations and what we hope to achieve. I await your reply.

I suppose I can manage to go to Scandanavian States. If not, I will send someone in my place.

And if necessary, a schedule and a goal list can be created, however, I do not tend to bother myself with those and instead let God guide me the way He wants it to. But, if you wish, I can discuss a schedule.

Subj: Re: Schedule

Duchess Saleh,

First off, I apologize for the lack of response. The Kremlin was installing a brand new communications system, and we had to shut the old one down for security purposes until it was installed completely.

With that out of the way, I will be sending Mikhail Solzhenitsyn, the deputy Foreign Minister of Derscon, and the official Foreign Minister of the Greater Prussian Empire (who's name unfortunately slips my mind, at the moment -- however, he is of Northrop-Grumman nationality). Mikhail will have in his possession the itinerary, as well as a small gift from myself as a token of appreciation and good will. I hope you enjoy it, it is a prized possession from the Imperial Wine Cellars.

You can expect them in a few days -- I will send word of their departure ahead of time.

Jack,

I need you to send the Greater Prussian Foreign Minister to the Kremlin immediately for some talks with Scandavian States. I apologize for having to bother you about it, but his name slips my memory at the moment.

Thanks a bunch.

Alexei

Alexei, that’s O’Neill with two “l”s, Chairman Jack O’Neill thought as he quickly read through the letter. Many people had a problem with spelling his last name correctly, but he had gotten used to it already and just shrugged it off. Jack leaned back in his leather chair and stretched his arms out before he picked up the telephone to call Vice Chairman Shiran Naelthasser’s office two floors below.

When he finally did, a familiar voice answered. “Hello?”

“Shiran, this is Jack.” He read through the letter again quickly in his mind. “The Emperor wants you to hightail it over to the Kremlin for some sort of diplomatic talks with Scandavian States. Get your things together and be at Caprica City International in an hour.”

“I can be there in a half-hour.”

“Excellent…and one last thing…”

“Yes?”

“Good luck.”

Alexei,

No need to apologize. As a matter of fact, it took me weeks to remember his entire name.

Now, on to business, I have briefly spoken to Foreign Minister Shiran Naelthasser concerning these talks. He will be leaving shortly and should arrive there sometime within the next five hours.

Sincerely,

Jack

In less than a half-hour, the blue and black-striped white business jet rose into the air and made its one-hundred eighty degree turn towards Derscon. Weather permitting; it would arrive at the airport in about five hours.

When Alexei got word of Foreign Minister Shiran Naelthasser's landing in RAMC Airport, he quickly sent a message to Jack.

Jack,

I remembered the second "L." Aren't you proud? Naelthasser just touched down, thanks for the advanced warning, though.

God Bless,

Alexei

The Czar shot off the message right as Shiran walked up the ramp into the Star Office with Count Franz von Papen, the Dersconi Foreign Minister.

"Ah, welcome, you two. I see you've already met Count Papen, then, Shiran? That's good." Alexei got up and shook Naelthasser's hand.

"I'm Czar Alexei Alexandrovich Andropov, as you already know. I'm not going to keep you here long. I'll have you stay over night here at the Kremlin, and then you'll both head off to Scandavia after breakfast tomorrow. If you need anything, feel free to call my brother John -- " Alexei pointed to Prince John Rekjyavich, who waved -- "And he'll get you it."

After shaking Alexei’s hand, Shiran nodded. “Very well. I will be looking forward to spending the night here. I have heard from Chairman O’Neill about the magnificence of this place, and it appears that he was correct.”

He picked his suitcase and briefcase up off the floor and asked. “Would you have any place where I can place these for the time being?”

"Yes, John will show you to your room." With that Prince John took Shiran out of the Star Office and meandered his way back into the Grande Halle, where he led Shiran into the guest wing. From there, he was given one of the seven rooms with gold doors on them -- for the high command. The "room" was actually a five-room suite seen in some Dersconi five star hotels -- which compared to other hotels seemed like six star hotels

Shiran laid his belongings next to the bed and examined the guest suite around him trying to figure out the dimensions and what furnishings it had.

The elf turned back around and commented to Prince John, “My apartment pales in comparison to this suite. As a matter of fact, the Chairman’s suburban home is about the same size as this. Neither one of us likes to spend much money on ourselves, as you can tell by the small and rather old business jet I flew in on.”

John smiled and took a sip of the drink in his hand. "Well, Derscon is known to be lavish, and as royalty, we're all spoiled little children here. Well, good night. I'll be here in the morning to show you the breakfast bar. It's quite good."

Shiran nodded right before he shut the gold door. "Alright, I shall see you bright and early in the morning. Goodnight.”

He then walked back over to the bed and took clothes to sleep in out of his suitcase. After laying out a set of clothes for the next day, he changed and climbed into bed where he quickly fell asleep.

-------------------------------------------------------

Shiran rose early the next morning before Prince John managed to arrive and showered. Unlike so many of the people he worked with, he rather liked the mornings and felt the most relaxed at that time. He put on his elven formal clothes that always made him look out place and fumbled with the way it was put together as he waited for Prince John.
