FT Pananab?

I was thinking of going FT. We ewon't have a planet, we'll have a huge civilian fleet and we'll be pretty much nomadic. We just gather resources from scrapmetal and the Black Market and storefronts an doffering mercenary services or science information in return. It would be interesting and rather unique.

The method of income, unique-ish.
Mobile nation, less so.

...interesting. Of course, the lack of planets means I would have to bomb them.

Nice one^^

Theao, I haven't heard of any nomadic non-planet FT nations. Example?

I think Pananab is kinda like a bunch of ships of pirates, refugees, criminals, and whatnot.

Yup. I'm doing it, too. I mean, I'm interacting with your 'intelligence', aren't I?

Like a very large (make that very very large) band of outcasts, thugs, mercs, workers, and whatnot. Cool.

Not really criminals that much, it's going to have more civilians than thugs, who are going to be more of my military than the general populace. Stowes will still be my leader.

Do you have MSN? I love the idea, personally, and the only reason I don't is because I need planets ((Addiction to Melange ect))

No MSN.Do you have a Kingdom of Loathing account?

Nope, sorry, is that an actual web browser or just the fact you hate msn? Anyway, feel free to talk to my nation, ((Corrupted by chaos as it is))

HT, you know I only exist in your head. I don't really exist, I'm all in your mind. The voice you are hearing, the text that only you can read, the insane kitty loving thoughts that pop into your head. That's why your room has padded walls. "You knew, didn’t you? I’m part of you? Close, close, close! I’m the reason why it’s no go? Why things are what they are?" "'You're not wanted.... on this board! …So don't try [to take] it on...or else.... we shall do you. See? Chronosia and Unified Sith and Core Worlds and Planet Federation and Fedral Union and Taledonia and Kazecistan.'" (Stolen from a book I read a few years ago and modified)

Enough of the OT mind messing; I like the idea and encourage Pananab to go ahead with it (and join the Republic).

Somehow I doubt that a nomadic civilization that relies on its ships are going to put itself at jeopardy by joining an alliance that gets attacked every two months by someone or another.

*disgusted grunt* We're still here. And we will strike back with vengeance when we are able. We have foes because we have values. Our ideals are worth standing up for, and we defend them. Many nations have an ideology, but only a few actually act on them. Were all those who feel as we do to rise up in anger, they would crush their former oppressors, taking it upon themselves to purify the universe of evil, darkness, and chaos. They would know true freedom, ever lasting peace without fear. Is there a more noble cause? It is pitiful that they instead cower, preferring to save their own skins rather than accept sacrifice for a common good.

There was a time in Kazeci history, not long before the Great Wipe, in which all records of the past were erased, when Kazecis marched to their deaths. They numbered in the tens of thousands and were guarded by but a handful of armed guards. Each of them, afraid of their own death, chose to march into furnaces rather than strike out, overwhelming their oppressors. Each and every one of them died: had they refused, some would have died, yes, but the vast majority would have lived. (slightly modified to be on Kazak rather than earth, but otherwise a true Holocaust story from the death camp next to Auschwitz, as told in the book, Night)

Just saying that I'm not sure if Pananab would relaly be that safe if he joined the alliance, any alliance for that matter.

Alone is far more dangerous. With allies, he may subsist in their territory, having a home without having worlds. It is unfortunate that so few have discovered that one's potential is greatly increased when he works with others for a common goal.

Perhaps individual alliances would be safe, but with a large alliance could be dangerous. If he makes pacts with a bunch of nations, he can go from place to place with fewer obligations.

Being the neutral fool who trys to stay on everybody's good side? Not able to act on his beliefs for fear of taking a position? Sad.

Green Sun's right. Pananab doesn't want to fight, they want to live and continue with their lives. Their only goal is to exsist, to survive another day. Joining an alliance would send others against me, people I have no quarrel with. If i make individual pacts and treaties with them, I can avoid having to take sides in wars and simple live. Of course, that doesn't mean I won't violate someone's space once in a while ;)

Kazecistan frowns upon those who do not act upon their ideals, but respects their cowardice wishes. Kazecistan would welcome peace and free passage (as they offer to anyone who is non aggressive towards them, so long as they do not take from Kazecistan any material they did not come with or have not purchased). They would encourage you to take a stand and act upon it.

The ideals of Pananab are only to repent from tehir sins against their fellow man and start anew, which the nomadic people in FT Pananab will do and to discover as much as they can about life, the univers,e and everything.
So, technically, we are acting apon our own ideals. They're not YOUR ideals, but they work for us.

They needn't be our ideals to be ideals. But to simply subsist is not an ideal. You must have a goal, something big to work for, a purpose. The mind degrades quickly without a goal, sinking into a state of depression, sad meaningless thoughts, despair. Sadism is a stage in the development of a people. Most begin with a simple goal of subsisting, then, as their minds grow, they begin to question, creating religion to answer questions. During this religious phase, they develop science, which continues on after the fall of religion. This is when most civilizations fall to sadism, the depression about lack of meaning, insignificance. Eventually they pull out of this and into a new age, one in which they work together for common goals, without the need for a 'god' to motivate them. An age of reason, a third Renaissance. Sadism is perhaps the worst of the phases.

(This would be the course of Kazeci history, and they believe it to be the course of all civilization. They also believe themselves to be more socially advanced than most because they are in the cooperational reason stage, where as others [chaos worshipers (religion), sadists, and primitives] are still behind.)

(Note that they use sadism in a diffrent sence than diriving sexual pleasure from pain)

None the matter, Kazecistan would never interfear with a society's progression along the natural path. You are welcomed into friendship with Kazecistan, if you so choose, and are free within it's territory so long as you take nothing and bring no battles.
