OOC: After having tasted the fruits of MT and FT I have decided to try out PT. Enjoy.

Thus it was with the rising of Trajan that the Empire of Thrashia finally fell and became a part of the Roman empire. But after a generation of servitude, the once proud empire would rise again to carry on its past conquerers ideals
- Philius Antipinius 345AD

The empire that was Rome has long been dead, defeated by a coalition of Germans, Greeks, Thrashians, and Persians. And from that coalition came the empire that replaced it. The Empire of Thrashia, reborn from the ashes of a generation spent in servitude to Rome. Yet, in its defeating of its conquerers, taking into it the ideals it's enemy once had. The Roman Legion.

Thrashian Legion Army

Each Legion is made of 6,000 men, commanded by a Legate who is appointed by the Emperor for his experiance and command abilities. The basic unit of the Legion is the Contubernium, or Tent group, of ten men. Then comes the Century, made up of 10 Contuberniums, totaling 100 men. The next is the Cohort, made of 6 Centuries, totaling 600 men. After that is the Legio(Legion) itself, made of 10 Cohorts, totaling at 6,000 men strong.

The most important officers in the Legion are the centurians, veterans who have served in the Legion all their lives. They each command a century making the total number of Centurians to about 60 in each Legion.

The commander, or Legate, of a Legion usually holds a council of war with the Centurians if they themselves are unfamiliar with the Legion they are commanding; many commanders who did not heed their advice have payed for it.

Basic Equipment of the Legionair

Buccellatum and Frumentum Hard tack and corn rations.

Papilio Leather tent.

Tunica The standard tunic worn over linen undergarments and underneath his armor.

Bracae While Romans considered the wearing of pants or trousers to be against any standard code of dress, legionaries in cold climates were allowed to wear wool or leather skin tight trousers that reached just below the knee.

Caligae Heavy military sandals that used iron hob-nails as treads, similar to modern day athletic cleats. The leather thongs continued half way up the shin and tied there, and in cold weather could be stuffed with wool or fur.

Balteus or Cingulum Militare The standard belt. Was rather narrow and were decorated with bronze strips, that were sometimes tin-plated, all the way around.

Focale Scarves worn to keep the metal of their armor from scraping their necks.

Galea Helmet. Though there were many types this was the most common helmet, the Imperial Gallic along with the Imperial Italic. They were generally made of bronze with iron trim, with a projecting piece shielded the neck and a smaller ridge fastened at the front for protection of the face. At the sides were large cheek pieces hinged at the top.

Sporran The apron consisted of a number of leather thongs to which were riveted metal plates, and weighted with bronze. It could have been either decorative, protection for the genitals or a combination of both.

Weapons and Armor

Scutum The large Roman shield, which was curved to fit the body. They were made from thin sheets of wood, glued together so that the grain of each piece was at right angles to the piece next to it. The whole was bound around the edges with wrought iron or bronze and the center was hollowed out on the inside for the handgrip and protected by metal bands. On the outside the surface was covered in leather, on which was fastened gilded or silvered decoration, probably in bronze. Each cohort had different color schemes, aiding recognition during a battle. The shields also carried the name of the soldier and that of his centurion. On the march, the shield was hung by a strap over the left shoulder.(Image (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b184/Upum/Romans/AH3853L20roman20shield.jpg))

Pilum SpearThe Roman javelin. It was seven feet long and very light, as it was thrown before just prior to engaging the enemy in melee, to disarm as much as wound them. The top three feet were of iron with a hardened point. It is probable that more sturdy types of spear of the same name were available for defense against cavalry in formation such as the turtle(Image (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b184/Upum/Romans/pilum.jpg))

GladiusThe Roman short sword. It was a double-edged weapon about 25 long and two inches wide, often with a corrugated bone grip formed to the Legionaries hand. A large round ball at the end helped with the balance. The primary use was for thrusting at short range. It was carried high on the right hand side so as to be clear of the legs and the shield arm. The calvary gladius was made to be an extra 5 inches long, for added reach from horseback. (Image (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b184/Upum/Romans/gladius_legionary.jpg))

Lorica Segmentata Plate Armor. This is the main armor used by the Legion. This armor was made up of many pieces of laminated iron all bound together to form a very flexible, strong and the most effective of Roman body protection. Other Part of the Legion

The Legion by itself is not everything that makes up the Thrashian army. There is also the Auxilaries and the Praetorian Guard.

Auxilaries
Conscripted from accross the Empire these men are fighitng to become either Thrashian citizenship, or else to fight for glory and money. Because they are not full Legionairres they are given a Lorica Hamata, Chain mail, which thjey wear. Also they bear an oval shield instead of the Legion one. And they are often given a 8ft spear to use for jabbing. Besides that they are outfitted with the gladius, helmet, and tunic of a Legionairre. The Auxilaries are often what make up the Thrashian archers and calvary.

Praetorian Guard
The idea taken from the Romans, the Thrashian's have taken the idea of a Emperor's Guard and made them into a 'special army unit'. They are often times on par or better than Legionairs, both despise each other for their places in Thrashian military life. The Praetorian Legion is organized along the same lines as a Legion, however they are outfitted with a blue or purple tunic and shields, signifying them as Praetorians.

OOC: Sweet, maybe we could have a war? I use Japanese Medieval Tech...so that might be fair. That would be interesting. A samurai army versus a Roman Army...oh the possibilties. :D But then my army does use those old pre-musket arquebuses...don't think it be that fair, since my leader Oda Nobunaga was famous for using them.
