The Macabees

[OOC: Frankly, I'm breaking the natural rules and restrictions of weather, and twisting it to give some sense to this thread. You can consider this a new Manium, although it's a bit different, and requires a lot more role playing. Nonetheless, the concept should be the same, and in the end, it will become a multi-thread topic. Indeed, consider this as a new Africa, where the world's top powers will be able to converge and war.
Actually, consider this the OOC thread.]
[Somewhere Uncharted]
The clouds covering the skies amazed the crew of DRK [Das Reichkaufmannschiff Fantastic, who gawked at the strange shapes, while the ship's meteorologist sat over his desk, confounded on the strange atmospheric buildups of condensation. Never before had something been witnessed, and it soon turned worse. The DRK Fantastic was, as the name implied, a merchant ship, however, it had been hired by the government to act as an exploration ship; specifically, exploration for petroleum and surface natural resources. Unfortunately, the ship had hit this, which appeared to be some sort of a storm, but without the force one would normally expect.
What mesmerized them even more was a landmass they could see in the distance, also covered by these clouds, and bristeling shapes of weapons and such. Since then the ship had made its way towards the continent, hoping that it was occupied by friendly nations, and it simply had gone uncharted on Imperial maps.
It soon became obvious that it was true enough that it had been uncharted on imperial maps, but it hadn't been a mistake, or a lapse of intelligence. Sattelite transmissions back and forth from the ship to the IINSA guaranteed that no nation known by the government had known about this continent. But how could that be so? With so much reconaissance sattelites orbiting this huge mass of Earth, would you not think that every single landmass had been charted? It quickly hit many on the ship. The clouds. It was easy to say that the clouds had hidden the fact that the landmass had existed, but did that mean that these clouds were something were always here? How was that possible? Would it not rain? Would the condesation not dissipate? The only response was, no, the clouds had been there since day one. So, were they clouds? That question didn't worry many. Most were just content to be the first to find a new world, and could care less what those clouds above were. But, then again, many just didn't care about the history and culture and myths of the area, just for land and power.
It had taken the Empire at least two weeks to find the damn area since the clouds had prohibited anytypes of aerial reconaissance, and instead they had to rely on good ol' fashion naval coordinates given by the Fantastic. Nonetheless, at least three destroyers, all of Novikovian make, had reinforced the Fantastic in the area, and had even brought a contigent of infanterie, making the situation look like Cortez' landing in Mexico. However, unlike the mostly illeterate crew of the Fatastic the Empire's IINSA and military personnel worked to understand this new landmass, before anything was planned.
What they got after about a month of investigation, while still keeping this information on the low-low [the Fantastic had been forced into military holding cells so that the information wouldn't escape], was that the continent was called by locals Lieraze, and had a wealthy cultural history, spanning even before the prehistory of the Empire of the Golden Throne [to past around 12,000 B.C.E.], and was divided into rich and extensive territories, all of which had sovereign governments - most of which were kingdoms. The Empire had even had enough information to finally chart Lieraze, and it looked something like this (http://modernwarstudies.net/before.gif). It was incredible.
However, being as sinester as it was, the Empire had also rated the military capabilities of said nations, and they were all rated below the third world modern powers. They relied heavily on weapons imported from older countries, long lost to the annals of history, using things just as the repeating Mauser rifle, old battlefield howitzer cannons, even cavalry and their own swords. Nonetheless, the armies they fielded were massive, having frontline personnel of over three million soldiers. Indeed, as said before, it was incredible.

[Out of Character Introduction:
Yes, this is part of the nationstates Earth, meaning it's open to all, regardless if you decide to spread your imperialism through it. This is to be considered nationstates Africa, and although I haven't roleplayed it yet, there's a 'magical' series of hurricanes to the east of the continent, so if that I ever feel that I need to expand, it will expand for more nations to come in on this. This is completely modern tech, or post-modern tech, all 'fantasy' is regarding the weather, and there is to be absolutely no use of fantasy besides what I use when it comes to the weather to give some sense to it all.
Imperialism works as a free-form roleplay. You can start a new thread, you can do it here. There's no rule on how much you can expand a day; expand all you want. But war between imperialist nations is promoted, to give it the sense of colonial warfare between colonial powers [much like Germany/Britain/France in Africa]. The natives are much like the Boers - they'll fight you; please, role play it well - role plays should at least be thirty posts long, especially if you roleplay it on another thread.
I haven't documented the natural resources of this continent. You may do that as you expand. Keep it realistic, but really, there are no boundries. Happy hunting. This will be my personal thread of expansion, so expect that. In other words, I'm using this to role play my administration's decision to occupy parts of this continent, most likely around Marbella.
Oh yes, Doria cannot be occupied. I will be roleplaying Doria if someone tries to take it. But it has future role play importance as the source of barbarians - I'll write some myths and legends concerning Doria to give it that aura - it will be the source of the new dark age, if I get enough people to go along with the idea.]
