STROBANIA CITY, Strobania (MNN) - The Strobanian Office of the Interior has begun calling on all nations to turn over decommissioned nuclear and fusile powerplants for future projects. President Benjamin Russou has enacted an executive order that will tap as much as 2.2 trillion strobans for the purchase of reactors and powerplants from neighboring countries.
In this morning's Strobania Today, the nation's largest newspaper, reports indicated a special project related to the government appropriation called "Project DAEDALUS". Shortly after printing, confidential sources reported a raid on the newspaper's headquarters by government officials. Three journalists with Strobania Today and two correspondents from the Associated Press were detained for questioning and later released several hours ago.
It is unknown what DAEDALUS entails.
The Department of State is offering to pay 10% above estimated value for any decommissioned or deactivated nuclear reactors, fusion furnaces, and focused-fusion reactors. 2.2 trillion strobans in appropriated funds have been set aside for this endeavor.
This news comes in the wake of announcements last month to accelerate the permanent deactivation of a number of obsolete powerplants in Gorstern, Shoreside, and Semprose.
UPDATE: Following the release of this announcement and a series of reactor handovers by neighboring allies, the government today appropriated an additional 3.6 trillion strobans, bringing the investment to date up to 5.8 trillion, or just under $8,206,420,000,000 USD with current exchange rates, making this the largest government funding appropriation for a single project since the Hulk Salvage Project, which was completed 25 years ago.
