A matter of national armament...

The Infinite Crucible

Slight waves slowly rolled onto the shore, one after another. The sun was just beginning to rise above the watery horizon casting diamonds of light across the deep blue strait, between two major islands of The Infinite Crucible. A small boy named James, was combing the beach for anything of value, as the government had taken most else his family had. At least they hadn’t taken the beauty of the place, it was one of the last non polluted areas in the entire nation. The glint of a holy crucible shown up from the sand below. He grinned, a toothy grin, and grabbed the small peace of metal. Suddenly a great booming echoed out from the strait. He looked up frightened, ship upon ship as far as the eye could see were bellowing out from the horizon. Behind them dark objects were lowered into the sea.

Dr. Bygone, minister of homeland armament, stood at the podium. It was here that a thousand lies had been told years to the populous, terrible and elaborate untruths used to seduce and oppressed people. The mindless press gathered like flies to a rotting corpse, ready to feast on whatever foul facts spewed from The Citadel.

Dr. Bygone was a massive man, six foot seven, three hundred and twenty five pounds. His great paws gripped the sides of the podium, the wood creaked under his iron grip. Careful, he though to himself, don’t want to break this thing. Cameras began to fire up from all over the crowd, it was time to begin the speech.

We have always prided ourselves in our military might, and seen honor in the faces of our courageous men serving in the armed forces. I have no doubt that should any foul heathen ever assault this great bastion of power, they would break asunder on us like a pot a thousand rocks. We, however, know that more can be done to secure, you, the people’s safety from all things alien and utterly evil. The Emperor has declared that no expense must be saved when the safety of his people is in question. Therefore we have begun, and many of you studious citizens may have seen this morning, a massive project to increase the security of this nation. The straits will have their deeper central waters heavily mined. This is to ensure that should we be invaded, the navy of the curs who dare assault us would be forced to travel in shallower waters closer to the shore, forcing them into range of coastal batteries and missile sites. Now you may ask, what coastal batteries and missile sites? That is an apt and observant question, and you should be applauded for it. Along with this we will be installing multiple shore fortifications along almost all of the coasts within our nation. Some will be computer operated, and others will be manned by our brave armed forces. This will greatly increase our defense should vile navies attempt to enter our waters. The enemy can choose between a costly and long minesweeping operation or weather a terrible hail of fire between the mines and the shore.

Many members of the governing body have expressed fear, that should our waters be heavily mined, trade will plummet. This is a very valid concern and we will address it now. There will be sections of straits, that have been deemed trade critical, that will not be mined with traditional explosives. They will have a far more expensive, but civilian friendly mine, that is equipped with what can basically be described as a remote on and off switch. During times of trade, the mines are disabled, but should enemies enter our waters, they are just as deadly. Additionally, that “trade” cities located on the outer shores will not have their waters mined. Instead they will have extensive defense structures built in the surrounding country side, so the unlikely event that they fall the infection of foreigners will be contained. I hope that this will address any concerns that our wonderful people may have, and continue to keep them knowledgeable on all the aspects of their safety we are increasing. Thank you and goodbye.

With that the massive brute of a man turned about, as did his guards, and he returned to the Apex, entering the Citadel.

OOC: This is more a matter of record keeping than an actual RP, but feel free to react or RP. I know this would be incredibly costly, but I figure I will start to determine where that military spending of mine actually goes. Also, this is going to take many years to complete, so dont think I am suddenly claiming all my waters are mined.
