[Right, the purpose of this thread is to enable me to step away from large mutual defense alliances and establish meaningful relations between those nations that I have had friendships with in the past.]

The Imperium has increasingly found itself dissatisfied with the world around it. In the past, we have worked hard to balance our many alliances and keep those respective nations friendly when they might otherwise jump at each other's throats. However, the ongoing war between the AMF/Pantera and Praetonia/Sarzonia factions has proven that such a policy is untenable.

As such, the Imperium has decided that it shall immediately withdraw itself from all mutual defense alliances. However, that does not mean we do not value our allies. Any nations that were previously bound to defende the Imperium, and vice versa, through a mutual defense pact are welcome and encouraged to negotiate individual treaties with the Imperium.

Please note that at this time the Imperium is not entertaining treaty negotiations with nations that it is not familiar. In the near future we do not expect this to be the case, but for the time being our strategem centers around consolidating alliances with friendly nations.

[OOC: Good plan. While I believe we retconned our war (For the time being anyway) what are current Scandavian - Hogsweatian relations?]

The Government of the Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire has been directed by His Royal Majesty Bernard III, Duke of Obsidia and Regent of the Grand Duchy to being bilateral negotiations with the Imperium. It is our firmest hope that our two nations will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder against all those that would threaten us. Through our continued friendship we shall both continue to grow stronger.

Asiya considered the message and then looked at her Assistant Director, "What do you think?"

Dubioux shrugged, "I can't honestly think of a reason not to negotiate. After all, they do fit our parameters and have been steadfast allies in the past."

Duchess Alexandria nodded, "Very well, I shall draft a reply. You are free to go for the day, Armand."

She looked down without further comment as her protege quietly slipped out of her office.

The Imperium would of course be delighted to negotiate a treaty with our longtime friend and ally. I merely ask that you propose the provisions of the treaty and then we can begin using that as a base. Given our intertwined past and relatively common system of government, I do not believe the process shall be unduely laborous.

We have authorized the Foreign Affairs Office of the Federal State Ministry to negotiate a Treaty based on the following terms:

Mutual Defense- The Grand Duchy and the Imperium shall be bound to defend one another against unprovoked, hostile attacks.

Permanent Non-Aggression- The Governments of the Grand Duchy and the Imperium shall agree that a Permanent State of Non-Aggression exists between them. They shall not support or condone actions that seek to undermine the Government of the other nation.

Free Trade- The elimination of tariffs and duties on goods and investments made bilaterally between the Imperium and the Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire and Her Protectorate Realms.

Extradition- A formalized system of extradition to ensure that those that breaks the laws of either nation can be brought to justice in the land where the illegal action(s) occurred.

Military Cooperation- It would be mutually benefical for the Grand Duchy and Imperium to support each other in endeavors that would benefit both parties.

The Foreign Affairs Office has been fully empowered by the Royal Senate and by Us to conclude any treaty they deem necessary.
