Amyntos anger over genocide claim

Amyntos has categorically rejected a statement by Iridian Secretary of State Jeffery Arnold in which he described the killings in Amyntos as genocide.

Foreign Minister George Walker said the Confederacy of Iridian States was using a humanitarian problem for its own political purposes.

And Foreign Affairs Minister Donald Thorwald told the BBC the government had made mistakes, "but the situation is not tantamount to genocide".

The Confederacy of Iridian States is seeking a new UN resolution that threatens the Protectorate of Amyntos with sanctions.

The resolution also calls for other nations to intervene in the region.

George Walker said the Iridian States were "isolated" in their use of such strong language, which he said was aimed at nothing more than developing a convenient pretext for invading his nation and divert attention away from domestic issues.

In the South of Amyntos, tens of thousands of people have fled renewed violence in the past two weeks, reports the aid agency Oxfam.

'Pattern of violence'

Up to 90,000 people may have died and a million have been made homeless during the conflict in Amyntos between government forces and rebel groups, which broke out last year.

The Confederacy of Iridian States claim that the government of Amyntos is conducting atrocities against civilians, both by the loyal ADS paramilitary formations and the Amyntos Armed Forces.

Its call for more to be done to stop the atrocities did not secure much support from regional powers, but several nations expressed that they might be willing to impose sanctions on Amyntos.

Mr Arnold based his assertion that genocide was occurring in Amyntos on interviews with more than 5,800 refugees who had fled Amyntos into neighbouring states.

He told the Foreign Relations Committee of the Iridian Confederacy: "We have concluded that genocide is currently being committed in Amyntos, and that the government of Amyntos and the ADS paramilitary bear complete responsibility. We believe, though evidence is scarce, that the genocide is part of a systematic and deliberate policy on the part of the Government of Amyntos."

The testimonies, collected by US State Department investigators, showed a pattern of violence which was co-ordinated, systematic and brutal, not random, Mr Arnold said.

Local conflict

Mr Walker said the Iridan States were using the ‘unfortunateness occurring in the South’ to try and deflect domestic attention from its own problems, specifically its curtailing of individual freedoms.

"They should not use a humanitarian problem for political agenda," he said during a local press conference.

Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Minister Donald Thorwald told the BBC that none of the other major nations in the region had used such condemnatory language to describe his nations ‘internal policing policies’.

He described the conflict as a 'minor confrontation between different groups of villagers', which he said the government had been ‘successful in orderly bringing under control’.

An Amyntosian parliamentary delegation has accused the Confederacy of Iridian States of leading a global hate campaign against the Amyntos government.

‘… current estimates put the death toll at around 90,000 though some independent agencies, such as Amnesty International, place the figure even higher, at 110,000 ..’

President James Cornwell clicked the remote control, turning off the television report. ‘Well? What do you all think?’

In his conference room, seated at fairly equal intervals around a dark oak table, the President had assembled his Minister for the Interior, the Chief of Police, the State Minister for Armaments and Production, the Commander-in-Chief of the Amyntos Armed Forces, the Foreign Minister and the Supreme Commander of the Amyntos Secret State Police.

‘Well sir, in my honest opinion I think they’re bluffing. The Iridian States aren’t going to do a damned thing about it, it’s all just a political ploy,’ said Foreign Minister George Walker.

‘All the same, Mr President, I’d like for you authorise putting the military units in the north on heightened alert, for security purposes of course,’ urged Colonel-General Tim Holdings.

‘Very well… Do you think they know the full extent of what is actually happening down there?’ the President asked.

The men looked around uncomfortably, seemingly unwilling to discuss this serious topic. After a short while, the Production Minister, Dr Albert Reynolds, spoke up, ‘Ermmm, if you’re referring to the camps, Mr President, I don’t think so. We were pretty thorough about that.’

‘And the atrocities?’ asked the President.

‘Well sir, my men are doing their best but you will appreciate that such widespread, erm… measures, are fairly difficult to conceal. We didn’t anticipate that there would be so many refuges leaving the area into the neighboring regions, most seem to be talking of the, umm, excesses, Of course, those estimates on the television are completely arbitrary, the reports that we are providing you are far more accurate,’ answered the Secret State Police boss and commander of the notorious ADS.

‘I see,’ said the President, ‘General, why is it that you still have not sealed off the southern borders?’

‘Well Mr President, as you know the rebels are still highly active in the south. Although we control most of the cities and towns, large parts of the countryside are still in enemy control. Especially on the borders, which they use for transporting arms and ammunition into the country,’ explained the Colonel-General.

The President began to conclude the meeting. ‘Very well. George, I want you to get on air by 6 tonight, condemning the I.S. for their accusations. At the most call it a ‘policing exercise’. John I want you to be there with him to field questions from the press.’ John Major, the Chief of Police merely nodded.

The President went on. ‘General, I’m going to have to ask you if you can step down your military response to the rebels.’ The General began to protest, but Mr Cornwell interrupted ‘Just until we can be sure that military action isn’t going to be taken against us, ok. Hopefully by increasing our, errm, action against the civilians we will be able to compel the rebels to stop. Dr Reynolds, I want you to step up the alternative solution we have going, and I want the ADS to continue in their task. We've started this thing and we're sure as hell going to finish it. That’s all, dismissed.’

McRowan Mobilises

CIS President Fred McRowan has given the Amyntos Government an ultimatum to open up their borders to foreign peacekeepers or face war following what he called a ‘despicable and deliberate policy to exterminate the Elthian ethnic minority in the south of the country’.

A refusal by the Amyntos leader and his government to give in to the demands would "result in military conflict, commenced at a time of our choosing," Mr McRowan said in an address to the nation at 7 PM today.

His televised speech came less than an hour after Amyntos Foreign Minister George Walker labeled CIS condemnation of Amyntosian internal policy as ‘blatant thugery’.

More than 35,000 Confederacy of Iridian States troops are now being mobilized for action against Amyntos.

Reactions by world leaders to the ultimatum have so far been generally negative, with most refusing outright to comment on the growing troubles in the region.

In other developments:
• Ersatia commits troops to any CIS-led attack
• Foreign dignatries begin leaving Amyntos amid heightening fears
• Neighboring regions declare neutrality in the coming conflict

Diplomatic failure

Mr McRowan advised all foreign nationals, including journalists and foreign dignitaries, to leave Amyntos immediately.

He stressed that the any action, if taken, would be purely to put to an end the Amyntos government’s policy of genocide which “for too long had been allowed to continue”.

'Liberation' coming

Mr McRowan used his short address to send a message to the Elthian Amyntosians, stressing that any military action would be directed against the "lawless men" in power.

"As the troops of the CIS take away their tyrannical power, we will put an end to the reign of terror in southern Amyntos," the president said.

"We will dismantal their instruments of terror and we will help you to build a new Amyntos were people are free from mortal danger."

He promised: "The tyrants will soon be gone – their genocidal reign is at its end".

President of Ersatia, Josephine Monet, 'On my orders, at 5:00 PM local time, the Ersatian Armed Forces began mobilising in order to support our allies, the Confederacy of Iridian States, in their action against the genocidal Amyntos government. We wish our troops well and hope that harm does not come to them. However, Ersatia is a proud and strong country, and we are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve victory.'

President James Cornwell stormed into Foreign Minister George Walker’s office, several military officers and government officials following him.

‘Have you heard? Both the CIS and Ersatia are mobilising, whatever happened to “they’re only bluffing”?’ the President demanded.

‘Sir, I.. well I think it still may be little more then posturing by the Iridian States’ replied Mr Walker.

‘Bah, you’ve been a failure from day one Walker, your foreign policy has done nothing but attract the whole world to what is happening in the south. You’re sacked. Get the hell out of here.’ Without a word the Minister exited his own office.

‘Are our troops ready?’ the President asked Colonel-General Tim Holdings.

‘Mr President, I’ll give the order immediately to mobiles our troops for war.’ The General responded.

‘Mr President, if I may make a suggestion? It would be a sound idea not to publicly declare our mobilisation to the world. We are already accused of genocide, let’s not also be accused of responding aggressively to this provocation. Who knows, we may even garner sympathy if war does break out,’ explained the Vice-President.

President Cornwell replied, ‘Good point, let’s not give an indication that talks have failed just yet. General? I want the majority of the armed forces deployed to our northern borders, which are most likely to come under attack, with large quantities of troops in the east and west. We’ll have to abandon the war against the rebels in the south, at least the mountainous terrain will mean we won’t have to fear invasion from there though.’

Colonel-General Holdings answered, ‘Yes sir, very well. Effective immediately the air force will begin conducting heightened and round the clock fighter patrols over our airspace, we won’t be taken by surprise.’

The Secret State Police boss, silent up to now, spoke quietly, ‘Mr President, am I to assume that you wish the… measures against the Elthian minorities in the south to continue?’

The President said, ‘Yes indeed. I leave that in your capable hands. However, the, umm, inmates in some of the camps will need to be moved. With the military leaving those areas we don’t want to risk the camps being captured by rebels.’

State armaments and production Minister Dr Reynolds said, ‘I believe the best way, so as not to waste vehicles needed by the military, would be a series of forced marches by the inmates to camps deep inside Amyntosian territory. It is currently winter and extremely cold though, and we wont have much food to give the inmates. Still, I’m confident that we can evacuate the prisoners to Niems in several days.’

One of the politicians in the room spoke up, ‘But sir, I mean in the cold and all, wont a large amount die?’

The President looked a little surprised, ‘Why yes.’

Letter to the President of the Protectorate of Amyntos.

The Provisional Senate of the Republic of Praetoria Novus has been most concerned of late with recent developments regarding the Amyntos Crisis.

It has always been a stated policy of the government of Republic of Praetoria Novus to never interfere in the domestic affairs of Sovereign nations. However, the prospect of a large scale international war erupting in a nation to which Praetoria Novus shares a common border on her North-Eastmost front is of the gravest concern, and something that the Provisional Senate is not prepared to ignore.

The Provisional Senate herby notifies the Protectorate of Amyntos that it is mobilising its military forces and deploying troops to the Praetoria Novus-Amyntos border. The troops are currently without authorisation to engage in hostilities, however that is entirely dependant on the circumstances. Should war break out, the Provisional Senate informs Amyntos that it will take whatever steps it deems necessary to safegaurd Praetoria Novus' interests.

Praetoria Novus is aware of the extensive campaign of genocide occuring in the South of your Nation. That is no concern of ours.

Here I go.

IC:

In the Motherland of Anagonia, on the Motherworld of Earth, there remained the origional Nation who's brethren were far apart. They remained the way's of old, and remained with the Military power of many a Nation. They had their own Leader, and they had their own Nation. Although apart of the larger scene that Anagonia was, the Motherland was home to many, and thus sacred as being the birthplace.

It was origionally intended to be kept as a Foot-hold, a place to remain if and when Anagonia would be called upon instead of travelling the long distances required to meet challenges here. But, the Leaders came to the realization that this land was more than a foot-hold. It was a treasure, it was their home, it was their people's birthplace. As such, it was respected by all Anagonians.

But, thought Chief Governor Dunan, that was another story, another time, and another place.

Dunan Ruu was the Chief Governor of the Motherland Province, sometimes people even dared all it a State. Either one worked well for it, because because really just called it "Motherland". It was truly a Cultural, Economic, Administrative and Political Hub for the Republic. It remained outside of its influence, mainly, and kept to itself governing wise. Basically, the Motherland was its own Nation. But, it remained with the Republic for the basic reason that it was where everything started, and it would be an insult to leave their Brethren in the dust.

A soft sigh came from Dunan as he sat back in his chair. He was currently sitting behind his desk, looking over some papers. His head rose quickly as the door opened, and he gazed at the person whom entered.

It was his Chief Advisor, Viki Samers. She came in holding some Papers. "Sir, I believe you may want to see this."

"Oh?" Dunan looked at her, then the papers questionably. "Now, what could be so interesting that I would need to see it?"

Dunan was serious, there hadn't been much of anything happening in the last few days. He sat forward and extended his hand, and watched as Viki handed him the paper. Sitting back, he went over it.

"And this has to do with the Motherland, how?"

"Well, I would believe that we would want to at least check the situation out."

Chief Governor Dunan nodded, his eyes reading the report. It seemed as if two unheard of Nations were getting into a political scuffle, beyond that nothing else was known. It would be very interesting to see what these two peoples were up to, especially seeing as one accused the other of genocide.

Dunan put the paper down, "Call in the Chief Commanders."

"Yes sir," came the reply.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Several minutes later the Chief Commanders of their respective Motherland Military Branches were standing in a "War Room" of sorts. As soon as Chief Governor Dunan entered, they all saluted. Dunan, saluting back, motioned for all to sit afterwards.

"Gentlemen, I have called you here because of a minor incident in the International Scene." He slowly looked at every one of them, "By now you now the situation, and by now you should have come up with something." Dunan paused for a moment, then continued. "I want to know what you think before I say anything, fair enough?"

All nodded.

"Good, now, Chief Commander Dennis, what is your view on this?"

Chief Commander Dennis was the Commander of the Motherland Air Force, a well respected General back in the old day's, he had gained his position through many devoted years of service. "I believe we should just sit back and examine the situation. Send an E-3 Sentry, or just use a satellite. We could just bring to bare a Military aircraft, but that would seem threatening really."

Dunan nodded. "I like that. Anyone else have any ideas?"

All of the Chief Commanders shook their heads, expect for one. It was the Chief Commander of the Motherland Navy.

"Yes, Commander Rida?"

Chief Commander Rida Farsk was a new addition to the scene. She had just been promoted after her years of service, and had seen many battles with the Republic Star Navy. Why she became qualified for this job, no one knew. But someone higher up seemed to think she knew her stuff, so no one really argued.

"Sir, perhaps we should ready a Carrier, just in case?"

Dunan nodded, "Good, thinking ahead. I like it."

Chief Governor Dunan looked to all of the Chief Commanders, before looking back at Rida.

"Alright, Ready one Anagonia Class Carrier. Remember Rida, this isn't space, its the sea, and we don't like using fancy technology here," Dunan smiled, obviously trying to poke at her.

Rida nodded, a slight chuckle. "Yes sir."

"Dennis, ready that E-3 Sentry, I want it away ASAP."

"Yes sir," responded Chief Commander Dennis.

"Everyone else, you got any more idea's, I'll be in my office." He stood, the Chief Commanders doing the same, saluting. Dunan returning the salute. "Dismissed."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

In orbit a small spy satellite had moved its position to over the escalating situation. It logged the coordinates and location of the two Nations, its computer getting orders seconds after to maintain its position.

The eye of the Satellite seemed to zoom in, its solar panels turning to gain the radiance of the rising sun. The glare shining brightly off its hulk. Its computer obeyed the given commands after it positioned itself, nothing more passing through its dependent electronic brain....

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

It wasn't long before the Independence Military Airfield screamed with the roar of a large jet's engines. In the distance an E-3 Sentry was preparing for take-off. A few moments past as it taxied into the line-up, its engines screaming louder as it gained a straight line for take-off. Heated air seemed to make the image of the huge jet seem like a mirage, its hulk glinting the sun above.

Soon after, the brakes released, and the jet came forward. Seconds later, it was in the skies, ascending, turning, heading for a location unknown.

The wind howled as Walther Verne, infamous Secret State Police boss and ADS commander, rubbed his hands together, freezing in the winter cold. He had come to camp 13B, a converted local school, to supervise personally the evacuation of the prisoners north to newly created camps just outside Niems. The inmates were being forced onto crowded train carriages, the surrounding ADS paramilitaries barking at them to get on the train and using their dogs to bite at those nearest them.

One of the VDS officers came over. ‘Sir, that’s all that will fit, they are crammed in as tight as possible but the train carriages wont take any more.’

Verne nodded slightly, trying to light a cigarette despite the bitting wind. ‘Very well commander, the rest are to proceed on foot. You are to make sure they march at an acceptable pace, shoot any stragglers.’

The VDS officer saluted, turning to shout out orders to his nearest subordinates. Verne surveyed the civilians. Despite his huge great-coat Verne still felt numbingly cold, and couldn’t wait to be back inside. He didn’t envy the civilians, many without any cloaks, surely a great number would die on the forced march.

A shot cracked through the night, someone had been shot. It was testament to the horror that these civilians had been through that none even flinched.

‘Sir?’ It was Lieutenant-General Dennis Keith, one senior of his deputies in the VDS.

‘Ah yes general, about your orders..’ Verne had summoned the general (who had his collar turned up against the wind) to give him special directives for the execution of the assignment. ‘Recent international developments have necessitated the increasing of the speed of our, erm, project. You are therefore to form dedicated squads of men for the express purpose of carrying out the tasks in the southern villages. I trust you understand what I mean?’

‘Yes sir, I will see to it personally,’ replied the general, who didn’t seem in the least bit enthusiastic.

Czarna, capital of Czardas. 0845 hours

The wind outside howls through the narrow streets, a rising gale bearing dust and leaves and smog, whirling through the thoroughfare running down the center of Czardas's capital city. A few cars are out, but not many: A storm is coming, as the meteorologists had predicted, the likes of which Czardas had not seen for years. A twig slams against a window on the fourth story of Congress Hall, that huge imposing structure housing the governmental offices of the ancient nation. Inside, Foreign Minister Kari Alhoun starts slightly.

His start has nothing whatsoever to do with the twig, in fact. A message has just been relayed to him from one of Czardas's allies, a message dealing with a relatively minor incident occuring somewhere to the southwest. Alhoun reads the message through. His eyebrows raise a little bit.

He rings up Secretary-General Caverra.

--------------------------

A few minutes later the pair is sitting in one of the intel briefing rooms in a complex not too far from Congress Hall. The necessary formalities have been exchanged and Caverra smiles a little.

"So you say what about these nations?"

Kari Alhoun shrugs. "Apparently one has accused another of genocide and threatens military action."

"And why is this so significant?"

"It directly affects the security of Athar," responds Alhoun. "You see, these nations have allies in Athar, and those allies might get involved... And remember, what affects Athar affects us."

Caverra glances at the map showing the entire area surrounding Athar, the collection of nations in which Czardas was located. "These warring nations are far to the west and a bit south of us. We are nowhere near them. If we need to get involved, it will not be easy."

"You apparently know little about Czardas's air force," says Alhoun, smiling a little.

Caverra goes on unheeding. "Do we actually know if genocide is really being committed?"

"No," says Alhoun.

"We are too far for a simple spying mission to find out," said Caverra.

"Don't worry," says Alhoun. "I got the message from the NID. Apparently another nation, called Anagonia and based away from Earth, is already doing that. All we have to do is find out from them."

"Diplomacy or spying?" Caverra grins. "Remember, these off-Earth nations have very good technology."

"I don't exactly think one generally goes around asking other nations for top-secret information," says Alhoun with a playful grin dancing lightly on his face. "And I'm not sure spying on a nation with good technology and, in all likelihood, a military several times more powerful than ours is necessarily a good idea."

"So what do we do?" says Caverra.

"We ask Airya."

-------------------------

Airya Wong, Vice-Director of National Intelligence, smiles slightly on hearing of the request. She says: "Well, we can't be everywhere at once, you know. The Czar can only have operatives in so many places."

Alhoun sighs. "Ok, you don't have operatives in Anagonia? Or Amyntos or Iridian States for that matter?"

"No," says Wong. "However, do not give up hope. We can still get someone into any of those places. The easiest way is to do it ourselves. Infiltrations are always hard and tend to make us look hostile. This looks more like a job for the 14th."

Wong is, of course, referring to the near-legendary 14th Special Operative Division, a special unit of the most wily, resourceful, and well-equipped soldiers in the Czardaian Army. It was barely part of the Army itself; its commander didn't take orders from anyone, not even General Ogden, the head of Czardas's military. The other two nod in agreement.

Caverra says, "I wonder that I didn't think of them before."

Wong says, "I'll have to contact Finlay, of course. She doesn't take orders from people in normal circumstances. But I'm fairly sure she'll accept this mission. Let me ring her up."

Alhoun meanwhile began to write a transmission to Amyntos.

If not, we apologize for the misunderstanding and will contact Iridian States informing them. The CIS is engaged in predatory and aggressive posturing toward Amyntos, the ultimate goal of their slanderous claims are simply to serve as a pretext for the illegal annexation of Amyntosian territory.

The situation occuring in the south of the nation is a humanitarian problem caused by isolated cases of lawlessness and a bad harvest, nothing more. It is gradually been brought under control by the government. Any claims of “thousands dead” are uttely ridiculous and to be ignored.

People in white medic garb were running around the medical building collecting all supplies that would be necessary. A figure wearing a gray vest (similar to kevlar vest) was speaking to another white garbed medic as they walked down the hall. "Have the medics been equipped for deployment yet?" inquired the gray vest wearing figure. "Yes Kimura-sama," replied the medic," They're gathering the last items required for the mission." "Good good,"replied Kimura,"I'll be deploying the five jounin squads with you to provide security as well." Nodding, the medic started to walk over to the other medics.

A certian Spy Satellite had been monitering the land beneath it. Its eye zooming in and out, gazing intently at what happened beneath it. Its orbit had remained constant, per commands earlier. Its hard-drive filing every thing it looked upon, and sending it to a place that had unbelievable security in place.

A few pictures here, a few video's there. All seemed to go well.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

E-3 Sentry Foxtrot-Three had just arrived on station not but an hour earlier. During its short duriation over its assigned area, it's crew had gathered much intelligence from a Satellite above, and monitered events below. Its current altitude was above 23,000 feet. So far, it had not encountered anything. Of course, that could easily change since they had just passed Territorial lines.

"Whats our fuel," asked Commander Gorg Dannisk.

"75%, at the most. Our trip was a long one."

Gorg nodded to the pilot, slowly turning and walking from the cabin to the stations behind. He stopped at one in particular, looking down at someone typing on what looked to be a keyboard and examining some images.

"Anything new?"

"Much," replied Lieutenant Samuel, "seems to be a lot of activity going on down there."

Dannisk leaned over to gaze at the screen, and nodded. "Indeed, send it in."

"Yes sir."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thirty minutes had passed since they recieved a new report, two Chief Commanders sat at a long table, both seated beside the head. Chief Governor Dunan gazed at Chief Cmndr. Rida Farsk.

"So, Rida, you have experience in this area. You've seen thousands of intel reports from many a situation off this planet. What do you think?"

Rida sighed, sitting back in her chair, taking a long moment to think. "I believe its a ploy, sir. There's something going on within Amyntos. I don't know what it is, but this many troop movements suggest something."

"Not to mention the movements from the Iridian States."

All nodded in agreement.

"Well, I'm not sure what to do." He looked at Chief Cmndr. Dennis. "Should we sit and wait?"

"I would say so, there's nothing there that could condemn them to war," Dennis looked back on a photo image and the information provided on a sheet of paper beside it. "Besides the obvious movements into what looks to be towns? No, their probably just reinforcing themselves, even protecting their citizens."

Dunan nodded. Dennis was right, nothing on here suggested otherwise. No signs of fire, no signs of war. Nothing. He placed a hand to his head, rubbing. It was a confusing situation, once which seemed to point to nothing. Their satellite didn't pick up anything, no tale-tell signs of genocide by burning villages, nothing.

"Very confusing."

"And complicated," Rida said as she went over the intel again.

"The best we can do is wait," Dunan said, "so until the next report, we can do nothing. However, I want some special forces ready-" he glared at Rida "-and I want some transports and fighters ready-" he then glared at Dennis "-nothing to chance."

"Understood," came the reply from both.

With that, both Chief Commanders left, leaving Chief Governor Dunan to wonder if the Army should get involved.

Praetoria Novus Violates Amyntos Airspace

ELUSIA (Reuters) - There have been confirmed reports from the troubled state of Amyntos that, over a 12-hour period, there have been at least nine separate violations by PNAF (Praetoria Novus Airforce) aircraft of Amyntos airspace.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the airspace violations occurred at different places along the Praetoria Novus-Amyntos border, in one of the Elthian provinces of Amyntos where it is claimed by the Confederacy of Iridian States that atrocities are currently taking place.

The aircraft believed flown are all allegedly F-16 E Fighting Falcon “Block 60s”, which are also used by the United Arab Emirates. Although this is not the most advanced fighter type in the PNAF arsenal it is by far the most common and the conformal fuel tanks as well as improved radar and avionics fitted to the fighter variant make it a very potent aircraft in the region.

Defence analysts speculate the aircraft would likely be equipped with the AIM-132 ASRAAM Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missile as well as the aircraft’s more conventional armament.

Analysts say that the intentions of the Provisional Senate of Praetoria Novus are not entirely clear in at the moment, as they have refrained so far from commenting on the allegations of terrible atrocities according just beyond their own borders. Praetoria Novus does however appear to be concerned with the prospect of war in her own region, and is taking action accordingly.

There were reports of anti-aircraft fire in the recent incidents but no indication to believe any of the aircraft had been hit. Continued ..

1st and 2nd Elite ADS Divisions

Note, each divison is nominally composed of 12-16 thousand infantry. The tanks operated by the ANA and ADS are the Leopard 1A1 Main Battle Tank (45 Tanks) and the T-72BM Main Battle Tank (155 Tanks).

Standard Infantry are equiped with the Steyr AUG A3.

Total Manpower of Military: Roughly 345,000 Men.

The general disposition of the ANA is that 4th Army occupies positions in the South West of the Country along the Praetoria Novus-Amyntos Border, 2nd and 3rd Army is positioned along the extremely long border with the Confederacy of Iridian States and 1st Army is positioned in the east to deal with any possible Erestrian invasion.

Attached, general troop dispositions:

(error: the rightmost "4th" army should be "3rd army")

[OCC: Please be aware that these are nominal figures only. The effects of five years of brutal civil war must also be taken into account. Some units will be depleted. That said, generally the troops will be more efficient for being battle hardned by years of war. Equipment especially is likely to be worn out or damaged or in need of repair or even obsolete. For example, the Su-24s are extremely old in this army and only still in service because neccessity demands it.

If the economy is looked at it may seem hard to believe that Amyntos might field such a large army. However, three factors to consider. Firstly, the use of slave labour in the camps has boosted the economy at the expense of thousands of lives. Secondly, the police and military budgets are merged together, as the ADS Paramilitary is the police. Thirdly, a lot of the equipment has been carried over from long ago and still in service despite its obsolesence and poor condition. The economy should also be geared for total war.

Re: Genocide

Greetings from the Concordance of Czardas! We wish to question your hasty threatened military actions against Amyntos. Your allegations of genocide have yet to be proved, and as yet there seems little reason to rush into a conflict that may prove bloody and highly disturbing in the international community. We urge you not to go to war, as if your declaration is unjustified we may have to defend Amyntos, and needless to say the consequences for you and your allies would be grave. Once again, we urge you to reconsider your military action to avert a conflict, and wish you a pleasant day.

Captain Alma Finlay of the 14th Special Operative Division smiles sligtly as she listens to Airya Wong's request. Finlay, a tall young woman with long dark hair, heads the most notorious division of soldiers in perhaps the whole region. As Wong explains what she has to do, she nods.

"I think we can do that. We just need a few SM Daggers, and we'll be fine."

"Oh, I've already been in touch with Karlsen," says Wong. "He says you can help yourself."

"I'll go talk to the division then. When we return we'll tell you what we know."

"Right. You do that." Wong has other matters to attend to; she presses the elevator button, steps in. The door closes behind Finlay, who walks to a briefing room nearby. Finlay summons the 14th into the high-security compound and watches them enter one by one. An assortment of well-armed soldiers, each with their special packets at their sides. She nods and briefly explains their mission.

"I'll need a fairly small team this time," she explains. "Dorakov... Enigma... Red Wolf. You three, come with me. The rest of you may go."

The three she has selected walk to her. "What are our orders?"

No-one had ever been heard to use a title in the 14th. Finlay's Lieutenant, Dorakov, was no exception.

"Come with me, we're going off to the hangars," she says.

Obediently, they follow her.

Two hours later, four SM Daggers, those small, deadly blue planes Czardas is infamous for, are soaring over the sea, westwards to a destination only their leader knew.
Iridian States
28-09-2005, 17:45
The war room bustled with activity, the tension in the air almost unbearable. Along one end of the wall stretched a massive map which indicated Iridian military positions, and the latest info on Amyntonian troop dispositions.

‘Well? What do we do?’ asked the President, having shown the Czardas communiqué to all of the senior officers and politicians present.

‘Sir, I really don’t think we have a choice, their military is, quite simply, out of our league. Currently we will be hard pressed to defeat Amyntos as it is, even with our Ersatian allies,’ replied Foreign Minister Amanda Ersats.

‘What do we have on Czardas?’ asked the President.

‘Only conflicting and outdated data sir. Apparently her army's total manpower is 2.1 million, and her airforce numbers some 450 planes. The so-called dagger planes,’ explained the Chief Director of the Central Intelligence Organisation, or CIO, Rush Lothan.

‘Yeah, I’ve heard of them,’ said the President, looking grim.

‘Indeed. Even if they only deploy a fraction of those numbers to the conflict we will be in serious trouble,’ argued Air Marshal Arthur Stewart.

‘So.. threat assessment. If we go to war now, without evidence, what’s the chance that they will get involved?’ asked the President, suddenly businesslike.

‘In my opinion, all but certain sir,’ answered Foreign Minister Amanda Ersats.

‘I agree sir, they will see it as an unprovoked act and respond in kind,’ added Iridian Secretary of State Jeffery Arnold.

‘Jack?’

‘Mr President, the only answer I can give you is: I don’t know. Fifty fifty,’ answered Vice-President John Newman.

‘General?’

‘Mr President, they wont do a damned thing. I say we attack Amyntos and we attack now,’ said General Harrison Major.

CIO boss Rush spoke up, ‘Mr President? There is one other possibility. Ms Taylor?’

‘Yes Mr President that’s right. Our plan of attack would see a strong drive by us and our Ersatian allies against Isterven, the capital of Amyntos, not far from the border. We would only need to contend with the right flank of 4th Army and the relatively weaker 1st Army, as most of the Amyntos troops are positioned to meet a possible attack on Niems, the cultural, transport and industrial heart of Amyntos. Isterven is a relatively new city, built to house the legislature, and therefore not so seriously defended,’ Special Agent Kim Taylor took a deep breath, ‘Now.. if we can rapidly take Isterven we may succeed in capturing the leadership and thus bringing the war to a rapid conclusion, if not then at least we will surely find all the evidence we need to prove the refugee accounts of genocide inside the Amyntos National archives.’

‘Excellent plan… but it all hinges on how long it will take for the major powers to become involved. And of course on actually capturing the capital. Air Marshal?’

‘Sir we have no reason to believe the Czardaians have begun mobilising. Surely we will have at the least several days before they can become involved.’

The President thought it over. ‘It seems a sound course of action. We have to remember that genocide is occuring in Amyntos right now. On another point, we have to realise that if this is successful it will be us who dictate the post-war reconstruction of Amyntos and not the world powers, Amyntos will serve our interests and not theirs. We can’t wait for international arbitration, the Iridian States will have nothing to gain from that. But should we move now? Well for one it will allow us to annex the industrial region around Cygnus, something that will be impossible if we wait.’

‘Mr President, there is one other thing. The Czardaians have a poor track record in this sort of thing. In one instance where they contributed a hundred thousand troops to a civil war they failed. Will they be so willing to try again? Are we sure that their commitments allow them to commit forces here now?’ asked General Harrison Major.

-4 Dassault Mirage IIIE Fighter
-18 Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG “Fishbed” Fighter

Attack Aircraft:
-2 Sukhoi Su-17M-4
-8 Sukhoi Su-17 'Fitter'

Army: (all divisions are at full strength of 15 thousand soldiers)
7 Infantry Divisions (equipped with AK-47 Assualt Rifle)
3 Mechanised Divisions
1 Mountain Division

Total Manpower: Maximum of 110,000 Soldiers
Total Tanks: About 60 T-54/55 Main Battle Tanks

Notes: Years of economic mismanagement and recession have resulted in a vastly deficient military both in terms of quantity and quality.

Most of the equipmement used by the Confederacy of Iridian States is at the least horribly outdated and at the worst completely obsolecent. The vast majority of our tanks and airforce are relics of the cold war, and their shortcomings are likely to show in any major war.

For example, the T-54/55 is completely outdated and dates back to right after the Second World War, when the Iridian States received its first five during the creation of the pro-Soviet People’s Republic of Iridia.

The mainstay of the airforce, the MiG-29 is a Vietnam War-era fighter, and will be clearly outclassed in a war with any of our neighbours.

Some effort to redress these problems has been made, with the purchase of modern Mirages and the most advanced variant of the Su-17 fighters, but this process of modernisation has only just begun and so far no results are worth mentioning.

The one positive note to take is that, due to the relative small size of the army, our military will still be able to call on large numbers of replacements in order to offset even the highest losses.

Commitee's finding: The Iridian Armed Forces are in serious need of massive overhall. In the aftermath of the fall of the Soviet Union, the Iridian military has deteriorated to an unnacceptable state, and must be restored.

Somewhere over Amyntos

The four planes whiz high over the clouds, circling at times, their speeds never slacking. Blue and compact, unmistakable marks of the air force that built them, the SM Daggers dip slightly to within radar range. Alma Finlay, inside the lead plane, radios the one called Enigma. "Groundscan reports?"

"Over southern area now, approaching alleged 'concentration camps'," her radio crackles.

"Good. Descend below next cloud level."

The four planes follow her instructions. High over the ground, with constantly updating groundscans appearing on the SM screens, they watch.

Lt. Dorakov radios to Alma. "Nothing so far, keep on?"

"No. I see something." Finlay reads the data on her groundscan results. "A railroad track... Red Wolf, you follow it."

A plane breaks the formation, heads off along the track.

"Enigma, go the other direction."

Another plane breaks off.

"Dorakov, you stay with me. We'll head this way."

The two planes are visible from the ground, but barely. If anyone noticed them, they gave no sign. Without warning, Dorakov speeds ahead and circles around something on the ground. Finlay radios him, "Be careful. Military base ahead." He returns: "I have found something."

Finlay approaches the area warily and examines the area, using a full radar groundscan and analysis.

"It appears to be... an abandoned camp of some sort?" Finlay says aloud. "Weird."

After another half-hour, Enigma and Red Wolf both radio Finlay.

Red Wolf: "The railroad tracks lead to an abandoned village."

Enigma: "I found nothing of great importance on the other end of the tracks."

Finlay nods to herself and radios the others to return to Czardas, then presses a few buttons on the built-in screen. A man's face flickers into view. "General Ogden, we found no signs of genocide or any kind of mass murder. You may prepare for immediate mobilization."

General Ogden smiles. "Well, I haven't retired yet and handed the job of Supreme Commander of the Czardaian Military to you yet, so kindly don't give me orders unless I ask you for them."

Finlay smiles, too. A mocking smile for which she is known throughout her division. "Very well, O Great General. You will let this seemingly pointless military conflict go by unnoticed by Czardas."

"No," says Ogden. "I believe up to two field armies would do the job quite nicely. And it isn't as though we don't have one of the NAs always ready for action."

Finlay shuts off the display and smiles to herself. Then she disappears back into the clouds with her planes.

---------------------------------

A high-security compound somewhere in Czardas. The next morning

General Ogden, Airya Wong, Secretary-General Caverra, and Foreign Minister Alhoun are seated around a long table. Caverra seems to be in charge of the meeting. He opens by speaking.

"We appear to have been partly successful. Iridian States has postponed its military action. In addition, our operation yesterday detected no signs of genocide or other mass murder, which appears to show the falsity of CIS's claims."

Airya Wong says, "However, intelligence states that CIS plans to make its move anyway, just twelve hours later. This statement was made just a few hours ago."

"Let's see: Amyntos is an hour behind Czardas. The military action will start at 17:00 our time, meaning we have exactly eleven hours to avert this attack," says Alhoun.

"Kari, I'm leaving the diplomacy to you," says Caverra. "General, how soon can you get your men moving, and how would you best get them to Amyntos?"

"An operation such as this? I'd start out with, let's say the 4th and 5th Field Armies. We can bring in the 6th if it's really necessary. Plus our navy, to defend the army, and of course at least a hundred planes. We'd have to land in Ersatia and make our way overland through hostile territory, so it's always good to have the extra soldiers," Ogden says.

"But how long would that take?"

"The 4th and 5th are our NDUs, so they're ready for action now. The 6th might take about 24 hours to prepare, so if we're including it it'll have to come along later. And the planes -- a quarter of them are always in commission for some mission or other. All we'd need to do is call up the soldiers, get them in their boats and planes, and sail over."

Wong agrees. "We seem to have the advantage in numbers and, in all likelihood, equipment. I have a feeling that if we do mobilize our troops, it might convince CIS and Ersatia to end their own troop movements."

"Very well. Airya, I'm counting on you to discover all you can concerning genocide and past humanitarian problems in Amyntos. Dismissed." Caverra ends the meeting. Alhoun returns to his office and begins drafting his next communication. It is a good deal shorter and blunter than his earlier ones. He begins to wonder why it is called "diplomacy".

‘Options,’ the President demanded, his face becoming more and more grim as the news flooded in. His powerful ally, Ersatia, had become hesitant to commit troops (troops that were vital to the “quick victory plan”) and Czadras seemed more serious then ever about military involvement.

‘Sir I must remind you that with our fragile economy the military simply can’t maintain this level of readiness indefinitely,’ explained General Harrison Major, ‘something must be done, either we attack or we back down.’

‘Mr President, may I remind you also that by backing down the CIS will be seriously embarrassed. We will lose face, most of all with the Amyntonians,’ CIO boss Rush warned.

‘But is any type of victory, much less a quick one, still possible now? Given the loss of the Ersatians?’ the President asked.

‘Mr President, I think perhaps but it’s a political solution, not a military one. If it fails, the Amyntonians will still have the means to wage war, though doubtless weakened. However, retribution from the world powers will be quick.’ Spoke Rear-Admiral Konstantine Kutsnotvitz.

‘Go on, Admiral.’

‘Mr President.. I think Colonel-General Maxim could explain better.’

The President turned to Elizabeth Maxim, a stern looking woman in her late 40s. She was the commander of the Iridian Strategic Missile Troops (SMT) ‘Thank you Mr President. You will recall, no doubt, that during the fall of the USSR the Red Army’s withdrawal from here was, at best, chaotic?’

Indeed he did, the Iridian Confederacy was still reeling from those tumultuous events today.

‘Well part of the equipment left behind were obsolete R-9 - SS-8 SASIN intercontinental ballistic missiles placed here in the 50s during the height of the cold war. Now these were phased out in most Warsaw Pact countries in the 70s but, since Iridia was not deemed a high priority for the USSR they were left on active duty until well into the 80s, and then placed in storage. There was not enough time during the abrupt pull out to take them with them.’

The President listened intently, unsure that he liked where this was going.

‘These missiles are all equipped with one single 1 megaton nuclear warhead each. The six that have not been decommissioned (due to chronic lack of funds to our military) are located at Kirstrom-6 Missile Silo in the Zores Mountains. These could be made read for firing within 3 hours. Launching these missiles on Isterven, Niems and Cygnus would cause extensive damage to the transportation, command and control and industrial capabilities of Amyntos, and may possibly eliminate the political leadership. Should that happen, victory is likely almost at once, should it fail then (despite the huge damage) we will likely lose the war even if no other major power becomes involved.’

The President thought it over. It was a huge risk, a huge risk. But he couldn’t lose face. Why would the major powers care about what occurs in this part of the world? Once the damage was done, and the Iridian States had moved in to show the world the horrors of the Amyntonian Holocaust then surely his actions would be justified. Furthermore, on the pretext of rebuilding a shattered country his troops could remain in Amyntos for the next fifty years, turning it into a buffer-state between the Confederacy and the growing might of Praetoria Novus. Most importantly, the capture of the vital Cygnus industrial area would finally solve the Confederacy's woes.

‘You said we had 6 missiles to fire?’ the President asked.

‘No sir I did not. I said we had 6 left over which had not been decommissioned, but only three of them are in a state to be fired’ General Maxim said.

‘Very well, fire the missiles. At the same time I want the airforce to launch strikes aimed at wiping out the Amyntonian aircraft on the ground, and to destroy important structures such as bridges and fuel dumps. Begin preliminary bombardment at the end of this hour, to go for 30 minutes, at the agreed upon positions on the frontier. The infantry shall advance at the end of the bombardment.’

‘It seems we are taking a horrible risk for the Elthian minority groups Mr President,’ Foreign Minister Amanda Ersats said, decidedly against such an insane course of action.

'The Amyntonians will reap the storm for what they did to the Elthian groups. '

Later:

‘You wanted to meet with me, Minister?’ asked Lieutenant-Colonel Siegor Vlitovsk.

‘Yes I did Colonel,’ answered Foreign Minister Amanda Ersats, ‘I need you to see if you can reach all your contacts immediately. It is about the thing we talked about.’

‘I see Minister, what is happeneing?’ asked Siegor.

‘The President has ordered nuclear bombardment of the Amyntos. It is madness, and will lead us to ruin. Do I still have the support of the generals?’

‘Minister you have the support of many powerful generals in the army, yes, many who are not friends of the government or the high command.’

The Foreign Minister prepared to leave, this was dangerous, ‘Very well. I want you to place your most loyal troops within Kirstrom-6. I know it will be difficult, just do it. I’m not entirely convinced the President will go through with this, in fact I expect him to back down on this soon, but if he does try then be ready for when the time comes.’

‘Yes, Minister.’

[OCC: The way I see it, from the IC statements Iridian States can have no idea of how serious Czardas are at carrying out their threats. It may be no more than a bluff.

General Ogden was a very busy man following the meeting. He has contacted Chief Admiral Bendragon, Air Force Commander Karlsen, and the top supply manufacturers in Czardas. Finally he manages to reach Minister of Defense, Violet Astoria. Her face flickers into view on his screen.

"Ersatia has backed down. That means we shouldn't try to attack it to get through to Amyntos, as to the international community it would seem unprovoked, and we might have to bring in more of our military to deal with the situation. However, it also means that Iridian States will have one less ally. Another, more sensible solution is that we attack CIS from the north, which would mean heading west. It would take just over six hours for the fleet to get there."

"Ah." Astoria nods in approval. "Create a distraction."

"Yes," says Ogden, "but we have to move quickly. The attack is set in four hours. Only our planes will be able to make it in time."

"General, what's our total force?" asks Astoria.

"The 4th and 5th Armies contain a total of 400,000 troops. I'm also sending out about sixteen navy ships and a few submarines as protection, and about a quarter of our total plane force."

"One hundred and twenty planes," says Astoria. "Good. You should send half of them to Amyntos now. The rest you can use as air cover for the main army when it reaches CIS."

"I'm putting Longleaf in command of the army," says Ogden. "I'll talk to him and the others."

---------------------------

After conversing with Ogden, Commander Karlsen steps out of his office into a massive, high-ceilinged hangar, containing hundreds of planes, the chief air force base for Czardas. Men and women are gathered in front of him. Commander Karlsen turnsto his fighters, relaying them Ogden's orders. "For the total, we want eighty daggers, thirty fighters, ten bombers," he says.

"Yes sir!" his men respond.

"Half the force, fly west to Amyntos and take out all CIS strike units you can find. The other half will serve as air cover and scouts for our army. Additional orders will be relayed to you," Karlsen continues.

A few minutes later, a group of planes is taking off from outside the airport. The Daggers fly ahead, with the F-17s and B-7s close behind. They set off to the west at top speeds while soldiers pile into boats and transport planes, readying for battle.

Somewhere over Amyntos

E-3 Sentry Foxtrot Three had been on station over the Confederacy of Iridian States and the Protectorate of Amyntos for over half a day now. Its engines were at 50% fuel, and they flew on something different now. They had been ordered to stay on station longer than their fuel supply allowed them to, and per regulations they were to shift to the back-up engines. It wasn't nothing fancy, but it wasn't nothing told to the world.

Two engines of the four that powered the E-3 Sentry had been secretly modified. The modification wouldn't last forever, however, and was by no means perfect. But it did its job, and kept the Sentry flying.

Commander Gorg Dannisk was sitting silently at his small station, typing and looking at a few things on his screen. Moments later Commander Gorg was standing beside Lieutenant Samuel. He looked at Samuels screen, wondering what all of the circled spots were, and reading the information provided. It wasn't much, all it really described was location and bearings. But Samuel had a paper in his hand, and he looked at Dannisk.

"Sir, here's your proof of Genocide. I knew we'd missed something when we saw the troop movements on our first image. So I went back and did a little...toying around with the Satellite. This is what I got."

Gorg nodded, "good thing you did."

"Yea, and here's the interesting part-" he placed a finger on the screen, and picked up another image "-its an image taken after the 'Proof' photo. This one shows something that shouldn't be there, can you see it?"

Dannisk shook his head, "No, what?"

"Look harder," he put a finger at the bottom of the image, "see these specs here? Those are not any ground source. Their aircraft. Seems like someone is more interested in the Protectorate than us."

Commander Gorg sighed. Who else would want to intervene? He had heard a transmission from the Communications Chief earlier that had the name "Czardas" in it, but that was all that could be translated. It was an unusual transmission, and the computers were having such a hard time finding out what it was that they just gave up on the damn thing.

Gorg Dannisk shook his head, "Czardas....."

Dannisk looked at a station forwards of Lieutenant Samuels, "Ralph, Find something out on Czardas."

"Yes sir."

"Czardas? Is that a Nation," asked Samuel

"Yes, I believe it is."

Gorg stood, and looked behind him at an Officer at his station, "Jesti, I want you to intercept and capture any transmission with the word 'Czarda' in it, understand?"

"Yes sir," Jesti nodded his head, then got back to work.

"And Samuel," he looked over to the Lieutenant.

"Yes sir?"

"Send all we have back to Homebase."

"Yes sir."

Commander Gorg Dannisk was sure he was on to something, something big. If his assumptions were correct, this private war raged beyond the borders of both the Protectorate and the Confederacy. If his hypothesis was turned Theory, Anagonia would definitly get involved in the situation.

Airya Wong is also busy. She is looking up information on the Amyntos area. Updating maps from satellites crowd her computer screen as she looks for something that might be useful. She reads through reports and scans. Conflicting reports. Czardas's was none too thorough. A satellite scan of the area showed nothing. Other reports, more advanced, kept coming in. She reads them through. Her operatives are doing well.

Nothing, nothing, nothing.... what's this? She glances at it.

<<<Report: [\genocide\]>>>

She reads it through, and raises her eyebrows slightly. A single word forms on her lips.

Within a few minutes, she is on the phone. "Don't even bother with finding out about them. Contact them. Try to get them in real-time."

The person on the other side speaks at some length. Airya says, "Ah, that all? I'll do it then."

Wong sits back down, closes all windows, and begins entering the necessary code and operations. It will not take too long to get a personal message to the leader of the nation After a few minutes, she smiles. She has found what she is looking for. All NID operatives are trained in computer cracking.

[Account:Guest]

She clicks on the link. Operation denied: administrative powers necessary. She sighs slightly. It won't be possible for her to get into their secured system, it seems. These Outer Earth nations are usually too high-tech.

She resolves on a simple telephone call. Using one of the databases the NID has set up for discovering information, she quickly finds what she needs: a telephone number.

She takes out her phone and dials. A voice answers on the other end. "Welcome to the Motherland Foreign Minister's Office. How may I help you?"

"Could I please speak to the Minister?"

"Could I please speak to the Minister?"

"Certianly, hold on just a second," responded the Foreign Ministers assistant.

Usually they would ask whom was speaking, but today was a slow day, and hardly anyone got any calls. Caster Oblivion wasn't busy in the slightest sense, he was in the process of beating a game on a gaming system. It was the first time in days he got the chance to play this game, and he was currently online with it, playing with someone from Novar.

"Aw, Hank! You foo!" He sighed as his character died from a shot from somewhere, and a voice came back from a small screen on his Projection Set.

"Yea, well, I owned your sorry human butt. So, ha."

Caster had a good laugh, before hearing his phone ring.

"Be right back, Hank. I'll rocket your alien carcass when I get back."

"I'm sure, I'm sure." The person, or being, on the other end laughed happily. Obviously, he was enjoying this game.

Caster quickly pressing a button on his controller that made a big BUSY come up on the screen, swung his chair around to his desk. He pressed his finger on a screen that seemed apart of the desk in front of him, and sat back, calming himself down from the game.

"Hello, this is the Galactic Republic Minister of Foreign Affairs and Activities. Caster Oblivion speaking. What can I do for you?" His voice sounded polite, with a tone of seriousness in it.

Official Government Declaration of National Emergency. Minutes ago, two nuclear ballistic missiles of unkown origin, assumed Iridian, hit targets inside Amyntos.

The targets were the industrial districts outside Cygnus and the capital, Isterven. Casualties incured are trememndous some 130,000 citizens living in the local area dead outright and thousands more injured. The cost to infrastructure is sever, and at least in Cygnus the nuclear devices have begun a ragin firestorm that is only now being brought under control by the ADS.

Additionally, at 3:00 PM today local time, the Confederacy began a sustained artillery bombardment of the frontier. That bombardment ceased after barely ten minutes and the Iridian States have breached our sovereign territory on a broad front.

Due to the foresight of our leaders the military remains largely in tact. Rather than occupy positions on the border where it would have been badly mauled by the artillery bombardment, our units have occupied a defence in depth, and are currently involved in heavy fighting with the Iridians along the entire front.

An attempt to neutralise our airforce has failed. Even now, our fighters are attempting to secure air superiority over the battlefield.

The Iridian States believe that there terror bombing of two of our most loved cities would deter us from fighting. It will not. As of now, the Protectorate of Amyntonia declares a state of war exists with the Confederacy of Iridian States.

The Provisional Senate of the Republic

In the wake of the entirely unprovoked and unjustified attacks by the Confederacy of Iridian States on the Protectorate of Amyntos, the Provisional Senate of the Republic of Praetoria Novus voted overwhelmingly to enact the State of War (Hostilities with the CIS) Act 2005.

The Act declares, at s 3 (2), that ‘a state of war exists between the Executive Government of the Confederacy of Iridian States and the Provisional Senate and People of the Republic of Praetoria Novus.’

Conclusions:

Praetoria Novus’ position as one of the dominant economic powers in the region is clearly evident in the structure of her airforce. While being unable to compete quantitatively with her more powerful enemies, the quality of the PNAF is not to be easily dismissed (though doubtless inferior).

The relatively small economy of Praetoria Novus has meant that many otherwise outdated aircraft have had to remain in active service, however due to a relatively large defence segment of government spending the PNAF has been able to update and improve these aircraft to the largest extent possible,as well as maintain them at an acceptable condition. For example, the HueyCobras used as the mainstay of the helicopter force are of the last variant with the most improved avionics. Likewise the F-16 Block 60s are the most advanced form of this fighter developed today, and the improvements to their weapons systems and radar make them a worthy fighter.

The PNAF has begun a period of modernisation of all areas of its airforce (buying Su-30s to replace the F-16s and Su-34s to replace the Su-25s). However, as yet the results of this program are not enough to make a difference in any major war.

Operation Winter Solstice

Objective: The Strategic Bombing of CIS Industry

SPECAT Jaguar strike aircraft escorted by F-16 Fighters shall conduct precision strikes against identified critical areas of CIS industry. The operations are to be conducted in all weathers and day and night.

Message to the Concordance of Czardas.

Message Reads:

The Confederacy of Iridian States wishes to appeal to you not to use military force against the CIS.

Although the nuclear missile strike did originate from the CIS, it was a grave mistake. A coup has occured and the President and his chief supporters are under arrest, pending military trial for treason.

The takeover was costly and bloody, though short. It occured as the nuclear missiles were being launched, and the nulcear silo was only captured after the first two ballistic missiles were already in flight.

The Confederacy is still in possession of an operational ballisitic nuclear missile. However, the Confederacy does not intend to use it, no matter what, and it is being placed in storage.

The invasion by conventional forces of Amyntos was also launched before the coup. We therefore have no choice but to see it through to its conclusion.

Awaiting your urgeant reply.

Amyntos was reeling after such a devastating attack, completely caught of guard by its destructive power. President James Cornwell could never have expected that the CIS had either the capability nor will to conduct a nuclear attack, but in hindsight it seemed a perfect move. It was the only way for the CIS, devoid of its allies, to be able to “level the playing field” and have a chance of defeating the quantitatively and qualitatively superior Amyntonian military.

He turned back to Dr Reynolds, (State Armaments and Production Minister), who was explaining to him the full extent of the damage. ‘Sir, to all intents and purposes our war industry in Isterven, and to a much larger extent Cygnus, is completely crippled. We can only be happy that Neims was not hit, because if it was we would be out of the war.’

He continued, ‘It’s a logistics nightmare. The rail and road transportation hubs of Isterven and Neims has been completely knocked out, and we’re needing to divert supplies and reinforcements great distances to make up for it. It's causing delays and traffic, military convoys are backed up for miles in some areas. It's fortunate most of the airforce survived the nuclear and aerial assault intact, or we’d have a major turkey shoot on the highways.

‘With the serious devastation to the capital we are having huge difficulties co-ordinating our military response to the invasion. Of course, the telephone network is down in the entire east of the country, and a major part of our command structure is lost. 2nd Army's Headquarters was located near Cygnus and lost in the nuclear attack, fortunately 1st wasn’t situated at the capital but further towards the frontline. Its fortunate that the government and the high command had evacuated Isterven for our reinforced bunker complex here in Niems, or the situation would have been even worse.

The President had a hard time comprehending. This was by far the worse military disaster his nation had ever faced. A significant amount of his troops in the area had been lost, not to mention large numbers of tanks and artillery pieces. The devastation wrought to infrastructure and industry was huge, his nation would be economically crippled. Finally, the civilian death toll, now at 150,000, would surely rise over the following days due to lack of healthcare and sanitary conditions, not to mention radiological poisoning.

‘Where does this leave us?’ The President asked. His meaning was not lost on the general, James Cornwell was asking if they should surrender.

Colonel-General Holdings was not ready to throw in the towel. ‘Mr President, I don’t think we need to quit just yet. Granted, this has been a disaster, but if we stick to our guns we can only win this.

‘Just a short while ago Praetoria Novus declared war on the CIS. Now, don’t get me wrong, there’s no love lost between Praetoria and us, but you know what they say “my enemy’s enemy is my friend”. Also, lets remember that Ersatia has declared itself neutral. Now, the majority of our airforce has not been harmed so far. All our Armies are still intact, though 1st and 2nd were partially hit in the nuclear strike.

From preliminary reports, the enemy has already breached the Alpha line. However, the Alpha line was not strongly defended. Beta line will be a far more formidable line to breach.

So far 3rd and 2nd Armies are engaged in heavy combat. It seems our superior weaponry and numbers is holding them.

I recommend this: We take significant numbers of troops from 4th and 1st armies (situated along the Pratoria Novian and Ersatian borders, respectively) and form a new army, which we can use for offensive operations against the enemy.’

The President thought it over. It wouldn’t be easy, but it should work.

The Isterven Government in Amyntos gratefully accepts the offer of humanitarian aid offered by the Holy Republic of Soragakure to the nuclear weapons affected areas of Amyntos.

We advise the Holy Republic that both areas are situated very close to the frontline, were Amyntosian troops are currently heavily engaged. We therefore cannot guarantee their safety.

Orders to the Amyntos National Airforce:

Effective immediately, the mandate of the ANAF is threefold:
1. To secure air superiority over the battlefield and drive the inferior CIS airforce from the sky.
2. To conduct round the clock, close air support missions involving Su-25 Ground Attack and MiG-29 multi-role aircraft.
3. To conduct a strategic bombing campaign against the CIS ability to wage war utilising Su-24 strike and MiG-29 multi-role aircraft. The war is to be taken to the enemy's factories, means of command and control, means of transport, and homes.

Included is an up to date image of the three defence lines of Amyntos.

Note:
-The Alpha Line has already been breached. It is fairly fortified and the longest defence line, encompasing both the Ersatian and CIS borders.
-The Beta Line is far more extensive and in some areas consists of minefields, bunkers, anti-tank weaponry, mortar pits, tank obstacless, machine-gun positions, etc. Most parts not so heavily fortified will, at least, have anti-tank ditches, barbed wire and dug in positions for infantry.
-The Gamma Line is the least defended line, and consists for the most part of isolated field posts and some barbed wire.
- The south of the nation, being highly mountainous, is not deemed worthy of fortifying.

RE: Internal Security

To: Walther Verne, Head of Secret State Police and ADS.

In light of recent military events, it has become evident that the process of de-Elthianisation of the southern areas of Amyntos will need to be accelerated.

The President hereby authorises the use of Sarin nerve agents in order to carry out your mandate. You are sanctioned to use them both against the camp inmates and the southern villages. The President expects to see results, and the death toll must rise by at least 150% if we are to meet our previous goals.

The use of gass to carry out your mission should hopefully free ADS troops for the defence of Amyntos. The President requires projections for how quickly this can be done within 12 hours.

[OCC: Just to clarify, it is the ethnic Elthians who are being exterminated in Amyntos (and also the group leading the insurgency)]

The command centre shuddered as yet another thousand kilogram bomb fell on it, causing dust to fall down from the cracks in the thick concrete roof.

This was not how it was supposed to be, Amanda Ersats, Foreign Minister and now President of the CIS, thought to her self.

The massive war-map along the wall, now cluttered with information, was unsettling to say the least. 23 of their 37 radar stations had already been knocked out by Iridian and Praetorian aircraft. Their airforce was largely a smoking wreck, giving the enemy free reign over their airspace.

They were making good use of it, wreaking havoc on the CIS’s infrastructure and industry. The PNAF had made a concerted effort to put the CIS out of the war, surgically striking nuclear power stations, the Kirstrom-6 Missile Silo (and putting it out of action), essential armaments factories and bridges, which crippled supply. The Amyntonians were mercilessly attempting to break civilian moral, firebombing major population centers and hydroelectic dams as well as taking out huge swathes of factories.

The news from the front was little better. Although the Beta line had been breached in several positions, in other places CIS troops had been pushed back with bloody losses. Many of the CIS tanks had been destroyed or disabled in the fighting, outclassed against the more modern Amyntonian ones.

Military casualties so far had been horrendous, on both sides. Ersats knew that the Amyntonians had taken a terrible beating (all along the front) but stubournly they still held fast, using an effective combined arms doctrine where there Su-25 close support aircraft worked in close conjunction with their modern tanks and infantry.

‘Madam President?’ Lieutenant-Colonel Siegor Vlitovsk had been appointed Minister for Defence. ‘I need you to authorise the call up of the following age groups to replenish our losses. They have been, to all extents and purposes, catastrophic so far and we will need at least the following number of people to make good our casualties.’

The President signed the papers, unwilling to look at how bloody their losses had been.

‘What do we do?’ asked the President, clearly in despair.

Lieutenant-Colonel Vlitovsk replied, ‘Madam President the situation is not as bad as it appears. If you will look along the part of the front where the largest concentration of our armoured divisions are… there,’ he pointed, ‘we have already broken through their lines. As we speak our armoured units are spreading out behind their lines, preparing for a drive on Niems. If we capture Neims, we win the war.'

‘What do you suggest?’

‘This, Madam President. We must withdraw third armoured and fourth armoured corps from combat against Amyntos 2nd Army. We must bring them around and exploit this gap in the enemy's lines. As we speak I am already pouring 7th Infantry Corps and 3rd Mountain into the gap. We can still capture Neims,’ answered the General smoothly.

‘And this?’ asked the President, pointing to Holeath, a city where an unusually large amount of troops were positioned.

‘That, Madam President, is an interesting developing situation. The Amyntonians appear to have only defended that area of the front with one single defence line, line Alpha. By concentrating some large troops there, as well as a good number of tanks and armoured personnel carriers, we have managed to partially encircle the city. A significant amount of the 1st Amyntos Army is present there.’

‘Currently we are bringing to bear on it all the artillery that we can spare. We hope to be able to crush the pocket before the Amyntonians break out.’

‘Excellent..’ thought the President, her spirits surging again even as another guided bomb thudded against the bunker high above them.

The Act declares, at s 3 (3), that ‘a state of war exists between the Executive Government of the Protectorate of Amyntos and the Provisional Senate and People of the Republic of Praetoria Novus.’

The Act also makes provisions, at s 9 (2) to prosecute the same.

The Provisional Senate of the Republic and all its organisations are hereby authorized and directed (by the powers vested in the Provisional Government in s 18 (2) of the State of War (Hostilities with Amyntos) Act 2005) to employ the entire naval and military forces of the Republic of Praetoria Novus and the resources of the Government to carry on war against the Protectorate of Amyntos; and, to bring the conflict to a successful termination, all of the resources of the country are hereby pledged by the Provisional Senate of the Republic.

The Provisional Senate regrets that this is to take place. However, in its view the interests of a quick end to this conflict so near to the Republic are more important issues that the sovereignty of Amyntos.

Official Government Communiqué
From: The Provisional Senate of the Republic
To: The Concordance of Czardas

We wish to make clear that our goal is to avoid any and all hostilities between Czardas and Praetoria Novus.

The only aim that the Republic now has is that, since hostilities have broken out, the conflict be speedily resolved. To that end, Praetoria Novus is conducting strikes against the war industries of both nations. The Praetoria Novus Army is also preparing to cross the border and occupy Amyntonian territory to the extent deemed necessary by the Provisional Senate to prevent a mass exodus of refuges into the Republic and also to ensure that Amyntos does not cross the Praetoria Novus-Amyntos frontier.

Over the Alpha Line, Amyntos; approaching Isterven

It is a brilliantly sunny day, unlike the storms of the past week. Capt. Finlay, looking down from her plane, cannot see a single cloud in the sky. Below, groundscans show the battle between Iridian States and Amyntos increasing in intensity. Let them fight; we'll be here soon enough. She sends out orders to the planes surrounding her.

"I'll need two bombers, six fighters, and six Daggers to stay back here -- under Trevor's command -- to hold any planes that might approach. The rest of you, come with me. We'll go find the Amyntonian planes. Apparently they're bombing CIS."

"Any further orders, ma'am?" Trevor's voice crackles through.

"Cause havoc. Try a missile strike on the air force base a few miles southwest of here. If we need you we'll call you."

Finlay and forty-six other planes speed off northwards towards CIS. It is not long before they come in sight of a small group of Amyntonian planes, which appear to be attacking one of CIS's smaller cities. Finlay observes that while it appears to be a fairly good air force, it cannot compare with Czardas's in terms of maneuverability, numbers, or training. She smiles bleakly and gives the order. Her planes begin firing down at the Amyntonians. A few Daggers rush in to engage them in close combat, needles extended. Explosions and shots surround Finlay, giving her a sense of exhiliration. She is in her element, flying left and right in her little SM Dagger and attacking Amyntonian planes with her guns and missiles, attempting to draw them away from the cities. Czardas has joined battle.

--------------

Over Isterven, the fourteen remaining planes are launching a missile strike on that city. Not exactly the full-scale airstrike promised by Foreign Minister Alhoun, but as Ersatia has permitted use of its airspace the remainder of the planes and soldiers would be arriving soon. Their leader, Trevor, has orders to shoot down any planes that approach within range, and he has his fighters do just that. Three of the Daggers dip a little lower to fire down on the taller buildings and stores, in order to cause havoc among the citizens. The battle is going well for Czardas, so far.

---------------

Hundreds of transport planes packed with soldiers, accompanied by Daggers, fighters, Strikers, and the odd Peregrine, sail along the specified airways over Ersatia at full speed, headed for Amyntos. The strikes on Amyntonian aircraft and cities are only the beginning, after all. For Czardas, battle has barely even begun.

Hmmm, things don't look so bad now, do they? Thought Amanda Ersats. The reports of Czardas joining the war couldn't be more welcomed.

'Madam President? We have news that Praetoria Novus has begun to attack targets inside Amyntos,' an aid announced.

What was this? Just what exactly had Praetoria Novus been playing at. Since the start of the war Praetoria's airfroce had inflicted the most serious damage on CIS industry, and now they had suddenly turned on Amyntos? What was going on?

'Are you sure it isn't a bluff?' the President asked.

'We'll we just heared a declaration by Praetoria's senate, and we intercepted a communique to Czadras,' said the aid proudly.

''We've intercepted a communique? Excellent, excellent! Finally an intelligence success for us. But are they still hostile?' Asked the President.

'Yes Madam President it would appear so, actually it makes little sense. Why are they attacking both of us?' asked the aid.

'Who knows. The point is that they'll have to lessen their attacks on us, and that can only help,' the President was in a much more boyant mood, she would not be facing the prospect of Amyntonian drives deep into the CIS, 'Foreign Minister?'

'Yes, Madam President', answered Lieutenant-Colonel Vlitovsk.

'Continue to keep the maximum pressure on the Amyntonians, I want all reserves commited, all units to advance.'

'Yes sir,' the Colonel responded. He turned to find the C-in-C of the Armed Forces.

The Concordance's involvement in this matter is also to end hostilities. Although our ultimate goal is to end the genocide in Amyntos, we found CIS's attack unwarranted and unprovoked. Therefore, we will deal with this act by CIS also. We will not attempt to attack Praetoria Novus unless you attack us. Have a pleasant day.

'Just what the hell is going on out there?' Air Vice-Marshal Jones Notting asked exasperatedly as reports came in of the 8th MiG-29 "Fulcrum C" lost in the last couple of minutes. That was an entire quater of his MiG force gone, the ANAF was in the process of being shot out of the sky.

A MiG-29M "Fulcrum E" of the famed "Ghost" Advanced Tactical Fighter Squadron landed right on the runway in front of the Vice-Marshall hard, flexing the undercarriage of the aircraft. Still moving, its pilot, Commander Rick Jones, jumped out of it before it have even come to a stop. 'Sir, my men are being slaughtered up there. We can't compete. I barely survived the dog-fight myself, think I might have got a bullet hole back on the tail there somewhere. We're in some serious trouble.'

Indeed they were, virtually all of the airfields had come under attack by Czardaian aircraft, the damage was extensive. The Vice-Marshal spoke quickly to the pilot, 'Son, I need you and your men back up there now. We need every fighter we've got. I'm ordering a complete withdrawly of the ANAF to its remote bases in the southern mountains. We can't risk losing such a valuable asset. In the meantime you need to fly rearguard, there are still a lot of fighter-bombers out on strike missions, we need them back.'

The pilot saluted and indicated to the new pilots (replacements for the ones he had lost) to get in their planes and sortie. Commander Rick Jones climbed back in to, it had been rearmed and refueled, and he was needed back in the sky. He wasn't overly hopeful of every coming back.

In the south of Amyntos

What seems like an army of planes fills the sky as Czardas's military approaches landing. The Air Force planes split up. Two SF-69 Peregrine strike/close-range fighter aircraft go ahead to report back information. The other planes head north, towards Isterven, to join their comrades. One by one the military aircraft land, the soldiers occupying them spilling out onto hostile territory. Far from any major lines of defense or military bases, the Czardaians are anyway so numerous and well-equipped that it would be difficult for anyone to stop them. General Adrian Longleaf, stepping out of the first plane, gives his orders.

"Don't let anyone know we're here. Try to eliminate all enemy soldiers you find. Our mission here is to free the oppressed minority groups against which genocide is occurring."

The huge force follows him -- either on foot or in jeeps, trucks, or armored cars. Small groups of soldiers break away from the main army on recon missions. Longleaf has plotted the mission so as to lead away from military bases and towards the areas where genocide is taking place. That means that the road will get a bit mountainous in places, and pass several Amyntonian towns, but he isn't worried. When you have a large army at your back you usually aren't.

General Ogden has already spoken to a Praetorian commander, asking him if he could do the same thing -- lead a force of any size to liberate the peoples against whom genocide is taking place. He wonders what the answer will be, sitting half a world away in his office in Czardas. I'll know, I suppose, he thinks, looking at the constantly updating satellite map showing positions and troop movements in Amyntos and CIS.

With all luck and skill, this war will be over soon, so Czardas can go back to its daily life of voting and liberty.

In the name of the motherland, the Colony of Ersatia declares you a threat to the security of this entire region. As such, it has decreed that, from this point on, military action will be undertaken against you. If you surrender soon, all may not be lost.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In some remote corrner of the South-East of Amyntos, a vast array of helicopters touched down, discharging their special forces. Moments later, transport aircraft droped large crates of ammunitions and weapons, ranging from small arms to medium artillery.
The commander of the group took out his map, examining it carefully. His mission was simple. Find the Elthian rebels, arm them and organise them as best he could. And then, most importantly of all lead a popular uprising to seize the country in the least possible time.
Finlay is doing well. Only one Dagger has been downed, and a Skyblade holed but still in the air. However, she makes a point of not telling her fighters that. "You're doing awful!" she radios. "You've allowed them to make two hits, and one of them fatal! Do you know how much these planes cost?"
Sitting back in her chair, she grins. Outside, the whirling Czardaians seem to have confused the Amyntonian aircraft. A Dagger needle-bombs another one, coming out the other side, retracting its spire and diving upwards to circle down firing on another. The battle seems almost effortless to Finlay. She is strangely unsatisfied. Is this all Amyntos can offer?
No. More fighters stream upward. She smiles in satisfaction and begins firing at them, attempting to eliminate them. But where are they going? Southwards? Retreating back into Amyntos. No matter, there are still over seventy planes in Amyntos, not including the Czardaian army.
Her loyal Lt. Dorakov radios her. "We've intercepted a message from one of the planes. It seems that the Amyntonian aircraft are withdrawing to the south of Amyntos."
"Good. I'll just tell Adrian, then." Finlay is perhaps the only person in the Czardaian army who calls generals by their first names. She sends a message to General Longleaf.
"Just warning you, General, you've got the ANAF going down there. Hope you're prepared."
"I'll just call our planes to help," his voice crackles.
Finlay shuts off her radio and sits there thinking for a moment, then plunges her plane back into the fray. She won't miss a chance to fight just because the Amyntonians want to retreat.
Outside Camp 7J
Machine-gun fire broke the silence. Walther Verne, ADS chief, surveyed the scene, a horror that almost affected even him.
They had run out of time. That’s what it came down to, they simply had run out of time. Gassing was now simply too inefficient for the job. Verne had literally thousands of prisoners to execute and virtually no time to do it.
He had come up with a brutally simple solution. The ADS troops had dug out huge pits, filling them with wood and other fuel and lit large bonfires. The prisoners were being brought down to the bonfires right now, in groups of several hundred or more and then raked with machine-gun fire. The next group to be executed would come, dispose of the bodies, and in turn also be executed.
Verne calculated that this camp would be finished in perhaps a couple of hours. It wasn’t overly big. He gave his orders and left, knowing that if the job didn’t finish very soon the world would finally now the truth.
A Peregrine skids to a stop outside the Czardaian camp and its pilot, a youngish man named Saniel Kaar, steps out and salutes General Longleaf, who has come over to meet it with a few of his highest-ranking officers. Kaar says, "Two bits of urgent news for you, sir."
"Yes, what is it?"
"First of all, we've found the Elthian camps, six or so miles ahead. We must hurry, as the Amyntonians are trying to wipe them all out before we arrive."
"Ok. What's the next bit?"
"Sir, the Ersatians have crossed their border to the southeast of our current position and are seeking to do the same as us -- liberate the camps and incite a rebellion."
"Excellent. You should try to contact them. Tell them we're allies."
Within a few minutes, the General has assembled all of his forces in front of him and tells them, "We've found the Elthian camps and rebel bases not too far west of here. As you can guess, that's where we're going now. Prepare everything, load your weapons. We must be prepared for some kind of fight. Also, I'm sending Lt.-Gen. Arachinov with half the force towards Neims, to hold all troops so we can start a rebellion."
It's not very much longer before half of the Czardaian army, not including a few forces out on recon, is headed for the Elthians. Along their march they will accumulate a number of rebels who are to join them in their mission to liberate the genocide camps.
Meanwhile, two hundred thousand troops head northwards towards Neims, which will understandably soon become the center of defense, while Czardaian planes engage the Amyntonians somewhere over the northern part of the country.
Chief Governor Dunan Ruu was sitting in the Briefing room, to his left was Chief Commanders of the Army and Navy. To his right was the Chief Commanders of the Air Force and Marines, and his Chief Advisor. In the center of all of them, on the table, was a phone. Commander Gorg Dannisk of E-3 Sentry Foxtrot Three was currently briefing the Chief Governor.
Yes sir, we saw the Nuclear explosions, almost screwed up our sensors.
"I see. Could you tell whom launched them?" Dunan asked.
Yes sir, it seems they were launched by the Iridian States. We cought them just as they launched. Right after it happened, however, we picked up a communication saying something about the Government being overthrown.
"Thats....unusual." General Ulysses Vladinchi, Chief Commander of the Motherland Army.
"Indeed," responded General John Parks, Chief Commander of the Motherland Marine Corps.
Chief Governor Dunan Ruu sighed heavily, looking at all the Chief Commanders with a stressed look, then back at the loudspeaker on the phone.
"I suppose this means chaos..."
Total chaos, sir. Even our sensors are having trouble with all of this.
"Probably because of the EMP Waves," commented Admiral Rida Farsk, Chief Commander of the Motherland Navy.
I wouldn't doubt it at all. But either way we, and the computer, are having trouble with it all.
"Thas-a lot-a chaos!" Joking said General Parks in an italian way, a slight chuckle came from the room, even over the loudspeaker and the beackround.
Yes, it is, said Commander Dannisk, getting over the chuckle.
"Anyway, gentlemen and ladies," Dunan nodded to his Chief Advisor, Viki Samers, "let's get back to business. Now, what our our basic options here?"
"I believe it would be unwise to go ahead with any plans at this time," General Dennis, Chief Commander of the Motherland Air Force said.
"I agree with Dennis, sir." General Vladinchi nodded to General Dennis. Afterwards the rest of the Chief Commanders nodded in agreement.
"Alright, well, with that out of the way," he looked to the loudspeaker, "Commander Dennisk, what is your opinion on the situation."
Commander Dennisk had been over the situation for a day now, and it was in the opinion of Dunan that he had the best experience for the situation.
I don't believe I'm qualified to answer that, sir.
General Dennis spoke up, "Do your best, Commander. Your the one over the scene."
A sigh came from the loudspeaker, and a conversation started in the backround. For a moment, it continued, then a ruffle came over the Loudspeaker. Commander Grog Dennisk spoke.
In our opinion, sir, we believe, I [/i] believe that the Confederacy fired the Nuclear Weapons because it thought it had no choice. Perhaps the Protectorate is stronger than the Confederacy, if thats the case then the action taken would have been Strategically justified, but not morally. The Confederacy was literally pushed against a wall.[/i]
A slight pause.
However, I believe that the Genocide within the Protectorate of Amyntos outweighs the sudden Nuclear strike, it has, from what we can tell, been going on for some time. I'm not suggesting anything, but I believe that the Currupt Amyntos Regime might need a slap in the face, or a bloddy nose.
Chief Governor Dunan Ruu nodded as he looked around the table at the persons present. "What do you think?"
"I'd agree with the Commanders assesment of the situation, sir." Admirak Rida Farsk said, all the Chief Commanders following suit with a nod. "But I'm at a loss of what to do. Should we just send forces?"
Now, for some time Chief Advisor Viki Samers had been sitting there, and listening, feeling as if she wasn't qualified to be here all this time. But after the Admiral spoke of her loss of decision on how to take action, she gazed around the room, noting that the expressions on the Chief Commander's faces agreed with Rida. She sighed, thinking on what to do. Then, an idea popped in her head, and she smiled.
"No, too risky," said General Parks.
"Well," Chief Governor Dunan clasped his hands together, "any more ideas?"
Viki Samers spoke up, "Perhaps we could....send a message of assistance?"
Everyone in the room looked at her, almost as if they forgot she was there. After realizing that she had been here all this time, they spoke to one another, then looked to the Chief Governor.
"She has a good suggestion," Admiral Farsk said, she nodding once more in agreement with the other Chief Commanders.
"Alright, thats what we'll do. Commander Dennisk?"
Yes sir.
Somewhere beneath Neims..
A low shudder rocked the bunker. These were now almost constant, the ANAF had abandoned the battlefield and left the country at the mercy of at least two different airforces, possibly three.
‘..I don’t care how hard it is, tell him he is to hold it at all cost!.. Yes that’s right, stand and die if you have to!’ the General slammed down the telephone.
The situation was bleak. From what he had gathered, the Amyntonian military was barely holding the northern front against the CIS considering the need to reinforce other positions. Along the Praetoria Novus-Amyntos border the Praetorians had advance on a long front, striking deep into Amyntos territory. He simply did not have the troops to hold them. He was aware that both the Czardaians and Ersatians were operating deep in their rear lines, where there were insufficient troops to repel them.
‘Sir, reports say they have at least 200,00 troops, the Czardaians, all well equipped.’
200,000? Unbelievable, thought the General, that was pretty much the entire size of the army facing the Iridians.
‘Order all available troops in the area to retreat to Neims and occupy defencive positions.’
At Holeath, Cygnus and Neims, the Amyntonian military prepared for the final assualt. Although huge fighting was occuring elsewhere, these cities had been declared "fortress-cities" by the Amyntonian Military, to be defended "to the last drop of blood". The defences were makeshift but formidible. Tens of thousands of slaves had been worked to death building huge anti-tank trenches around the cities. Each single block was heavily fortified, buildings concealed tanks and troops armed with guided missiles. The Amyntonians in these cities, which now housed the largest single amount of troops not on the Iridian-Amyntos front, knew the end was inevitable, but that to take any one of these cities would bleed their enemies white.
The Amyntonians had lost all hope, and steeled themselves for the bitter end. One avenue remained, however, a message newly intercepted, offered one final hope:
Commander Grog Dannisk stood in the middle of the walkway. After the briefing, he was thinking hard about something. The satellites had picked up the Concentration Camps, or Genocide Camps, whatever anyone wanted to call them. His communications offer was intercepting every transmission through-out the battles that took place beneath them. He had to assign two other Lieutenants to sort through the mess because it was so large.
He sighed, looking to Lieutenant Samuels. "Make avaliable to anyone who needs it what our Sensors see. It might help their efforts."
Samuels nodded, "Yes sir, freeing security channels and making avaliable Sensory Data."
"Keep, however, the Satellite secured."
"Yes sir."
Dannisk started to walk towards the cockpit cabin, and looked to the Pilot.
"How's those modified engines doing?"
"Doing well sir, our fuel supply hasn't needed to be used yet, and were staying comfortably at 29,000."
"Good, well, keep it up," Commander Dannisk said.
"Yes sir."
Grog Dannisk was extremely satisfied, but he wanted to do more. Knowing he couldn't, he started back to his station. Moments later, after nodding to all the Officers at their console stations, he sat at his. Slowly, he tarted doing some searching, and tried to find a link to some leader fighting the Amyntosians. Pressing something on the screen, he opened a data-channel, and started to type.
The Typhoon-RT Class Ballistic Missile Submarine, 1,000 miles away from the battlefield of Amyntos, rose to launch depth.
The captain made a final check, then inserted the key into the hole and turned it.
A SS-32 Devestator Intermediate Ranged Ballistic Missile ejected out of the missile tube and into the air. The rocket booster ignited and the missile flew into its ballistic arch. The SS-32 was armed with a single Uncontrolled Plasma Reaction Warhead, popularly known as the Burst-Warhead. The missile reached its maximum altitude, tipped, and began to come almost straight down. The missile would clearly be seen on any radar. At 6,000 feet over a division of an attacking Iridian States soldiers, the initial explosive charge detonated. The ten warheads seperated outwards, at 5,000 feet air was let into the warheads. As soon as the air touched the plasma inside the warhead, the plasma expanded in an attempt to cool itself. This expansion released energy. Each warhead released an massive explosion equivalent to 100 tons of TNT. Considering that the ten warheads detonated simultaneously, the result was an extremely efficient 1 kiliton explosion... without any radiation.
Near Camp 7J, Southern Amyntos
One poor old civilian, thrown together with hundreds of others on their way to certain death, can only await the machine-gun fire that cut down hundreds of his countrymen. They are led to the bonfire, and he begins to throw in the bodies of the slain. All around him the civilians are working emotionlessly, trying not to betray their sadness lest they suffer even more before they die.
Gunfire erupts from all around him. The old man throws himself to the ground, knowing it is pointless to resist. He waits for the bullet that will kill him.... but it never comes. He raises his head. The gunfire came not from the guards but from outside the camp, from clumps of trees. He and the other civilians slowly begin to realize that this is no game the ADS is playing with them.
All around the camp, thousands of Czardaian soldiers advance on the ADS troops guarding it. The planes now come in, but really their intervention is quite unnecessary. While fighting goes on all around them, transport helicopters and planes descend and pick them up, carrying them to safety in the thousands.
-------------------------------
Over northern Amyntos
Alma Finlay is growing frustrated. The Amyntonian planes are just not doing what they were supposed to. They had the option of fighting, but most of them keep trying to draw Finlay and her fighters southwards. A Skyblade-6 "Striker" Attack/Range Hybrid bomber smashes through a formation of Amyntonian planes; the Daggers are doing their job; very few of the Czardaian planes have actually been taken down since the start of the aerial battle. Nevertheless, the Amyntonian air force seems smaller and not as powerful as it appeared at first.
In addition, the PNAF seems to be getting to the Amyntonians first. Many planes that were supposed to arrive hadn't yet. Finlay, who had been hoping for a good fight, finds that the Amyntonians are falling disappointingly easily.
A call comes through on her radio. It's Lt.-Gen. Arachinov, summoning forty-eight planes to Neims, to join his army. She agrees to let the planes go, and smiles. The battle will be somewhat more interesting with only half her force left.
She noses her plane upwards and begins firing at a Fulcrum "E" Amyntonian craft.
Chief Governor Dunan Ruu was just about to leave the briefing room, when he heard the loudspeaker come to life. He jumped, and nearly yelled in anger, almost having a heart attack. His Chief Advisor, a few guards and the Chief Commanders came running in just as Commander Grog Dannisk yelled over the loudspeaker.
Sir, the Protectorate wants to surrender, a cease fire! Negotiations!
"Hell yea!" General John Parks of the Marine Corps did an arm thrust, everyone looked at him and he cleared his throat, regaining his composure, "Sorry."
Chief Governor Dunan smiled, "Indeed, so, tell them were willing to cooperate. We shall ask all parties to cease fire."
He turned to the Chief Commander of the Motherland Navy, Admiral Rida Farsk, "Get two carriers, two battleships, and any submarines on their way to sea, just in case. Now!"
"Yes sir!" Rida Farsk saluted, then ran off to do her duty.
"General Dennis and General Parks get transports in the air with Marines, Special Forces, and any tanks that can fit. Get some fighter sand bombers also. Go!"
"Yes sir," they both said, saluting, then going off.
"General Vladinchi, you know what to do."
"Yes sir." He went off as well.
"Now, Commander Dennisk, send messege back to Amyntos and messege to all waring parties. I want the fighting to stop, its our field now."
Yes sir!
Messege to all Waring Parties from the Motherland of Anagonia
Many planes and transports started to life off from the many Airports across the Motherland. In ports across the Ocean-front, a fleet of Three Iowa Class Battleships, Four Anagonia-Class Carriers, and eight Project 68 Modified Sverdlov Class Battlecruisers had set sail. Many Submarines had taken launch from Sub-Bases, and Submarines already on patrol were heading for the nearest possible point to protect the incoming Fleet and impose authority.
OOC:
The following have been launched/are enroute from patrol:
SEA FORCES
(Aircraft Carriers)
4x XCV-1 Anagonia Class Carrier
(Battleships)
3x BB-61 Iowa Class
(Battle Cruisers)
8x Project 68 Modified Sverdlov Class
(Submarines)
-Ballistic Missile Submarine-
1x 677BDRM Dolphin DELTA IV
2x 941 TYPHOON
1x SSBN-726 Ohio Class
-Cruise Missile Submarine-
8x SSN-688 Los Angeles Class
8x SSN-671 Narwhal Class
-Nuclear-
10x Project 971 Shuka-B Akula Class Attack Submarine
10x Project 671 Victor III Class Attack Submarine
4x SSN-594 Permit Class Attack Submarine
AIR FORCES
20x C-141B Starlifter
(Ground Forces shall be posted when they land)
80x F-22 Raptor
(These launches shall be officially completed in RL (Real Life) Thirty Minutes, and will take RL (RL) One Hour to get to destination. This mainly includes the Sea forces. However, the Air Forces could easily be finished in RL (Real-Life) Twenty minutes and take RL (Real-Life) Thirty minutes to arrive.
I hope this is fair. If not, I WILL edit to appease the masses. I ENCOURAGE resistance, lol.)
Gradually the entire Czardaian army comes together in the western part of Amyntos: the planes and full ground forces. The news has spread: Amyntos has surrendered to Anagonia. The war is basically over and the Czardaians can return home now. The majority of them are happy, although the 14th Special Operative Division is not entirely so.
General Longleaf writes up the losses and sends the list to his superior Ogden, who smiles approvingly.
Ground forces lost:
Total of 886, mostly en route to Niems
Air forces lost:
7 FC-159 Dagger Small Strike fighters
3 Skyblade-6 Striker Attack Hybrid bombers
2 Skyblade-9 Peregrine Attack/Close Range fighters
General Staff Assessment: The Amyntos-Iridian States War
ANAF Internal Report:
The following losses were incurred by the ANAF:
On the Iridian Staes Front:
-4 Mikoyan MiG-29 "Fulcrum C" Fighters
-2 Sukhoi Su-25 “Frogfoot” Battlefield Attack, Close Air Support, and Anti-Tank Aircraft
-1 Sukhoi Su-24 “ Fencer” All-Weather Interdiction and Attack Aircraft (to ground fire)
In Combat with the Czardaian Military:
-4 Mikoyan MiG-29M "Fulcrum E" Advanced Multirole Fighters
-19 Mikoyan MiG-29 "Fulcrum C" Fighters
-6 Sukhoi Su-25 “Frogfoot” Battlefield Attack, Close Air Support, and Anti-Tank Aircraft
-1 Sukhoi Su-24 “ Fencer” All-Weather Interdiction and Attack Aircraft
In Combat with the PNAF:
-1 Mikoyan MiG-29M "Fulcrum E" Advanced Multirole Fighters
-4 Mikoyan MiG-29 "Fulcrum C" Fighters
-1 Sukhoi Su-24 “ Fencer” All-Weather Interdiction and Attack Aircraft
The following combat aircraft are what remain of the ANAF:
-1 Mikoyan MiG-29M “Fulcrum E” Advanced Multirole Fighter
-5 Mikoyan MiG-29 "Fulcrum C" Fighters
-1 Sukhoi Su-25 “Frogfoot” Battlefield Attack, Close Air Support, and Anti-Tank Aircraft
Conclusions: To all extents and purposes, the ANAF has ceased to be a functioning arm of the military. Our ground attack capability has been almost entirely wiped out, principally by the Czardaian Military and in combat with the CIS. Our fighter complement is gravely depleted, with losses approaching 85%. Our long range strike capabilities are completely gone. At present, our airforce is stationed throughout several small airfields in the isolated south of the country. The General Staff must report it is unable to engage in hostilities at this stage. (Air Vice Marshal Jones Notting)
Lessons learnt: The ANAF fought bravely and with skill. On the northern front, we were able to complete our mandate of securing air superiority over the battlefield, defeating the CIS airforce and supporting the ground troops. The ANAF, however, was hopelessly outclassed by the Czardaian military. The ANAF needs to institute a new program of improved training for our pilots, the purchase of more modern fighters, and expansion of our fighter arm. The Czardaian military secured a kill ration in their favour of better than 3:1. They destroyed the majority of even our most advanced fighters with our best pilots, those flying the “Fulcrum Es” (who simply could not compare to the Czardaians' skill). Many of our best pilots have been lost in this conflict (though some did manage to eject) and it will take many years to rebuild the ANAF. (Wing Commander Rick Jones, promoted to Group Captain)
ANA Internal Report:
The following losses were incurred by the ANA:
Losses of all types amounted to over +125,000 troops.
Tank losses:
-33 Leopard 1A1 Main Battle Tanks.
-89 T-72BM Main Battle Tanks.
Conclusions: The ANA had been bloodied very badly, and though still capable of waging war is not able to do so effectively. Total casualties were high, over 35% of the armed forces. The armoured units of the ANA have been smashed. The worst casualties occurred at Holeath, were large amounts of 4th Army were cut of by CIS troops and largely annihilated. Great casualties were also incurred in the heavy fighting around Niems (from both the north and south) which was defended with suicidal bravery and in the Cygnus province, where our troops fought well through the nuclear ravaged landscape, usually without protective clothing, against CIS forces. Very large casualties were also incurred at Isterven where a nuclear missile landed. (Colonel-General Holdings)
Note: So far civilian casualties have exceeded 200,000.
From: The Provisional Senate of the Republic of Praetoria Novus
To: The Executive Government of the Motherland of Anagonia
The Provisional Senate formally requests that the Republic of Praetoria Novus be represented at the negotiations to be held in order to secure the surrender of the Amyntos government. As one of the belligerent parties of the Iridian States-Amyntos War and as a nation to which any peace accord agreements would fundamentally affect the Republic’s northern security, the Provisional Senate feels it is entitled to this right.
The Provisional Senate has also discovered via its surveillance aircraft that a large occupation fleet of Anagonian origin is heading for Amyntos. The Provisional Senate asks that you respect the cease-fire agreement now in effect in the region and do not affect the status quo by deploying these troops to Amyntos. Praetoria Novus draws your attention to the fact that Amyntos has not yet formally surrendered and that this is only a cease-fire, therefore the status quo must be retained until the peace conference.
Finally, the Provisional Senate suggests that it would perhaps be prudent to extend representation in the peace conference to all belligerent parties.
We await your reply with interest and hope that the unfortunateness beyond our northern border can be resolved without any further bloodshed.
Dunan Ruu was well asleep in his bed, he had been up late last night, probably up till Two O'Clock in the morning. But that thought didn't bother him now, his chest rose and fell at an even rate as he lay on his side, his eyes closed signaling his comforting slumber. His arms around his love beside beside him, a love that helped him relax his mind and sleep at night.
It was a usual start, slowly he heard his name being called by a gentle, serene voice.
Dunan...
It was so beautiful so majestic...
Dunan...
But it called for him, his mind grasping the reality of it, and gently waking Dunan from his slumber. The darkness of sleep slowly went away, his mind hearing the voice clearer, and clearer. His arm rubbed the skin of his beloved beside him, only to feel a sleek...smooth...scaly skin?!
His eyes jolted opened, hand jolting back. Scaly skin?! Was he dreaming?
"Dunan....honey...," came the gentle voice again beside him.
He gazed at what was calling his name, what brought him from his slumber, he thought he saw a inhuman gaze fall on him, but nonetheless he placed his hand back on the skin, realizing it was only his wife, Viki Samers. A silent sigh of relief.
"Oh, hey honey," he said in an oh-so obvious morning voice, "whats wrong?"
Dunan rubbed his eyes, sitting up by his shoulder in bed. The sun had just started to rise behind him, the clear glass thankfully allowing the life-giving rays to shed their wonder's in his room.
"Nothing, just time to get up."
Dunan nodded, "Alright."
With a yawn, he sat up, pushing the covers off of him. He whipped the sleep from his eyes, and groaned, looking at the LED clock on the nightsand. Six twenty-nine, he thought to himself, early start for the morning. But, he shurgged it off, and stood, stretching. He looked back, seeing his wife already standing and getting dressed with something. She gestured towards the shower room, and Dunan nodded approvingly.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was now Eight O'Seven AM, and Chief Governor Dunan Ruu stood before a mirror in his room, dressing himself in a nice, seemingly business-man suit. Today was a different day, he promised his wife he would finally wear something nice. He kept his promises, especially to her.
Chief Advisor Viki Samers gently kissed Dunan on the cheek, "Thank you sweetie."
He smiled, starting to put on his tie, "No problem at all, just remember, were officially on duty now."
She nodded, "Understood Chief Governor."
With both giving each other a hug, and a kiss, they walked from their room, Dunan gesturing for Viki to go first. She did, with a polite nod, and they they headed for their respective locations.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
On-Board the XCV-1 Anagonia Class Carrier, Anagonia
Rear Admiral Isis Destin was a veteran of the fleet. He had engaged in many worldly battles, and was a decorated Naval Officer. Many times in the past had he been in tight situations, and through his expertise, perhaps even through luck, he had managed to get a fleet out of tight situations intact. He was a someone to look up to, somone to model after.
But, the thoughts of such never did cross his mind with strength. He didn't care about medals or honors. He didn't care about praise or heroism. Isis only cared about getting the job done. Today was no such expection. His orders were straight to the point. There was to be absolutely no chance of attacking another Nation, unless attacked first, and this operation was strickly for security and recovery of the Protectorate of Amyntos, if it was still such.
He lifted his digital binoculars, gazing out into the open ocean, the rising sun beautifully reflecting off its waters. For a second, he admired the beauty of the sea, but before his thoughts could wonder on this, someone came from behind him, and stopped abruptly. He heard the foot-falls, and quickly turned around, gazing at the insignia's on the crewmans shoulders, and noted he was a Lieutenant. He was saluting, and the Rear Admiral quickly returned the salute.
"Yes, Lieutenant?"
"Sir," started the deep-voiced Lieutenant Wickers, "message intercepted and fully recieved from...."
The Lieutenant stole a gaze to the paper he had in his hand, previously unseen by Isis.
"....from the Provisional Senate of the Republic of Praetoria Novus."
Isis Destin looked at his wrist-watch, it was Nine O'Nine AM, one hour ahead time-zone wise. He quickly put his eyes back on Lieutenant Wickers.
"Alright, let me see." He extended his hand and took the paper, and read it. After a moment, he handed it back. "Continue its transmission and send it to the Chief Governor."
Lieutenant Wickers saluted immedietly, "Aye sir!" He did an about-face and started back to his post.
Rear Admiral Isis Destin sighed, looking to his Second-in-Command, Commander Ori Yates. "I suppose we should tell the fleet to slow speed, just to be safe."
Commander Yates nodded, "Yes, wise idea."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chief Governor Dunan Ruu sat at his desk as usual, reading over the days events. A newspaper was at his side, and a clock at the other end. He gazed at the clock, it was Eight Twenty-Eight. He sighed, he had just started, looking over everything. He hoped it would be a noneventful day, then he remembered Amyntos as he read over a status report. The fleet had sent it in early in the morning. They seemed to be halfway there.
Another sigh, his hand going to his head to rub it. Dunan hoped that the proceedings with Amyntos would go without question. But, as usual, that idea was busted as soon as his Chief Advisor, Viki Samers, walked in.
Dunan looked up to see her in time at the door. He motioned for her to enter, and she walked over, handing him a sheet of paper. Intrigued, he began to read, then groaned loudly a few moments later.
"Diplomacy sucks sometimes..."
Viki chuckled, "But its the right way to do things."
Dunan nodded in agreement, "Indeed." He looked up to his Chief Advisor, "So....basically the 'Provisional Senate of the Republic of Praetoria Novus' wants to know why the hell were sending a fleet over?"
Viki Samers nodded, "That would seem to be the purpose of the message."
"Alright," Dunan waved his hands, "I suppose we need to explain ourselves."
Message from the "Executive Government" of the Motherland of Anagonia
To: Provisional Senate of the Republic of Praetoria Novus
From: Chief Governor Dunan Ruu
It is my concern that you believe we send an invasion force to your rightful land and that of the Amyntos. However, we assure you we send this fleet, and the twenty or so flying transports in peace. We can surely say they have medical and food supplies avaliable, and have a security force to assure there will be no fighting during this time of chaos for Amyntos, and the Nations around it.
It is the belief of a recent Council of Military Officers and myself that this is the right course of action. While we understand the grave concern, we do not intend to start another war. Rather, we intend to assist Amyntos in their time of need, perhaps transition, and intend to be made avaliable should any threats present themselves at their weakest point.
It is my belief that any Represenitive from the Republic of Praetoria Novus would be met with open arms. We will not leave any Nation out, and will gladly speak of things in a clearer tone when the meeting occurs.
In ending, we ask the use of your Airfields, and any docks you may have. This would greatly benefit our Security and Medical Operations and lessen the strain on our Transports, as they have been going all night, and almost half the other day.
We thank you for your concern. If any more questions arise, please feel free to ask
Sincerely.
Chief Governor Dunan Ruu
Official Government Communiqué:
From: The Provisional Senate of the Republic of Praetoria Novus
To: The Executive Government of the Motherland of Anagonia
The Provisional Senate understands the concerns that you hold for the welfare of the Amyntonians. However, it warns the Motherland that a deployment of a significant number of troops, whether peacekeeping or otherwise, during what is still formally a time of war between not only the Provisional Government and Amyntonia but also your own government, that of Czardas, that of the CIS and that of Ersatia, would not be appropriate.
We do not object to humanitarian aid. We will however most strenuously object to any occupational troops being sent to Amyntos before a peace agreement is decided on. At the moment the status quo is more important, and the Provisional Senate is not willing to allow you to risk a fragile peace. This region is in Preatoria Novus’ direct sphere of influence, and we do not wish to see it destabilised.
Regarding the use of air or naval bases, we would be willing to allow this for humanitarian units only, not military. However, the Provisional Senate must first sit to vote on this issue. Until then you are not permitted to enter Praetoria Novian waters. Any threat to Praetoria Novian sovereignty will be responded to accordingly.
The Anagonia fleet had just stopped not eight miles from the Praetoria Novus ships when it started to move into a strange formation. The three Iowa-class Battleships had moved into broadside firing positions, their three main guns aiming for the PN Naval Fleet. The eight Project 68 Modified Sverdlov Class Battecruisers were behind, if not in the openings left by the lined-up battleships, aiming their turrets, and tracking the PN Ships. Many attack submarines were allowed to go forth, a taunting measure, and the Cruise Missile Submarines stationed themselves on the flank of the Anagonian Naval Formation. The four Anagonia-Class carriers were behind all this, reading their aircraft for launch.
However, in the wake of these developments, a dasterly deed had taken place. An E-2 Hawkeye had been launched from the XCV-1 Anagonia, on a mission so risky it could start a war...
-------------------------------------------------------------------
E-2 Hawkeye Alpha-One
Commander Elson piloted the E-2 Hawkeye as it had gained altitude, checking his gauges here and there, making sure everything checked out after the launch. He had been given simple orders, orders to test the patience of the Praetoria Novus Navy. Direct from Rear Admiral Isis Destion himself.
Bug the hell out of them Praetoria Novus ships. Their pissing me off.
Elson laughed to himself as he repeated the words, knowing all too well the Rear Admiral was not someone to be toyed with.
Several minutes had passed, and Elson looked quickly to his Co-pilot, then back towards the open ocean.
"We close enough to their line?"
"Yea, I believe so. One mile left. You should turn, slowly. Should take us right near the Territorial Line."
Elson nodded, "Alright."
The E-2 Hawkeye slowly turned towards the east, very slowly. The many feet left started to shrink as they neared the Praetoria Novus Territorial Waters, and the line that seperated them from International Waters. After a couple of minutes, the E-2 was almost certianly ready to cross the Territorial boundry. However, it leveled out in time, it literally riding the International side of the waters.
They regained an optimum speed, and before Elson could think he heard a voice over the comm system.
Fleet within view, radar and sensor picking them up
"Good, keep a close eye on them. We'll be taking a fly-by." He laughed, "Let's see what happens."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chief Governor Dunan Ruu growled under his breath, seemingly cursing something, as he went over the response. He would have loved to rip the paper to shreads, to slam his fist on something. Those transports had been going all night, and were low on fuel. They had to land somewhere, and soon!
Again, he growled, but this time followed by a relieving sigh. He quickly realized there was another possibility. Soon, Dunan found himself writing a response.
Message from the "Executive Government" of the Motherland of Anagonia
To: The Provisional Senate of the Republic of Praetoria Novus
From: Chief Governor Dunan Ruu
I ask this personally of you that you at least allow the transports to land within your airfields. These Starlifters are terribly low on fuel, and must land immedietly. They will soon arrive near your Nations boundries, going at a slow rate to save fuel. It is my personal request that you allow them to land to at least refuel and allow a stretch and rest for the passengers and crew.
In this time of negotitations, it is understandable that a "peace" must be retained. However, it would not be understandable to allow any craft to ditch and perhaps loose many good Souls.
Understand this: We would do the same for you, should you do this for us.
Very Urgent Request,
Chief Governor Dunan Ruu
And so, the Starlifters had arrived, not thirty minutes after the request was granted. They followed the pre-destined flight plan, and landed at Alicuim Naval Base. 12 Sukhoi Su-33 Naval Military Aircraft, temporarily under the command of Vice Admiral Lucius Manilius Vulso, approach the Anagonian armada. Their orders are simple, to shoot down any of the transports attempting to leave the flight plan.
On the deck of the Furious the Admiral studies the latest radar report.
'The aircraft hasn't breached our airspace?' he asked his Chief of Staff?
'No sir, it seems to be an attempt to provoke,' answered the Commadore.
The Admiral laughed, he wasn't some inexperience mid-shipmen and he wasn't going to fall for a trick like that. He knew that politics were at play but didn't much care, all he was concerned about was protecting the sovereignty of his nation.
'Signal the 13th Submarine flotilla, I think they were about 18 miles north-east of our position. The High Command has just placed them under my command, let's bring them down here as well.'
'Yes sir', his Chief of Staff said, 'the Hawkeye?'
'I've already told you, no Anagonian unit is to be engaged unless they illegally breach our airspace or teritorial waters. I'm not in a hurry to get my fleet sunk, I want to avoid conflict with the Anagonians as much as the Senate.
In the meantime make our intentions known. No Anagonian ship is going to be freely allowed into our waters until the Senate says so. I want the destroyers to fire warning shots roughly a kilometer to port. Three volleys in quick succession, then stop. Make sure they aren't aimed at the Anagonian ships.'
In what resembles an Intel Briefing Room, Foreign Minister Alhoun and General Ogden are meeting for the first time since the cease-fire agreement and the release of Amyntonian prisoners. After the formal greetings, Alhoun asks, "So you haven't quite withdrawn our troops yet?"
"Well, the situation in Amyntos isn't quite stable yet," responds Ogden. "It appears that there is some kind of diplomatic tension between Praetoria Novus and Anagonia, although we're not exactly sure what it is. I've ordered Longleaf to stay at our temporary base in southern Amyntos until the conflict is resolved, in case we're needed."
"So basically... the army is ready to go home, but you're not sure it should quite yet."
"Basically," agrees Ogden. "However, to show that we no longer bear any enmity to Amyntos or CIS, we really should offer them our help. I mean, our resources were barely damaged, but both nations suffered severe losses, both in the military and in civilian resources. A number of cities were destroyed. Very little of Isterven remains, for example. In addition, power plants, schools, and radar stations across both countries are no longer operational, and estimates say as many as 200,000 people have been left homeless."
Alhoun sighs. "With the recent upswing in our economy, I see no reason why we shouldn't help them. We can send whatever supplies are necessary."
Ogden remembers Capt. Finlay's most recent transmission to him and smiles slightly. "That gives me an idea..."
Re: War
Greetings from the Concordance of Czardas! We are saddened to hear of the devastation caused by this conflict and wish to offer any aid possible to Amyntos and Iridian States, whether this comes in the form of food, housing, equipment, or whatever else was destroyed by this war. The money will come from our $49 billion trade surplus.
An additional corollary was added on to the message for Amyntos:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In addition, certain members of the Concordance's air force noted the deplorable lack of quality in the sadly outdated planes of the ANAF. As this was mostly destroyed during the course of action, if you wish to purchase more modern and high-quality aircraft of Czardaian make, we can offer the following types of planes:

FC-159 Dagger Small Strike Fighter
Skyblade-6 Striker Close Range/Attack Hybrid Bomber

The Skyblade-9 Peregrine is sadly not available for sale, due to its rarity and costliness of make. We have in our reserve stock up to 30 Daggers and 25 Strikers available for sale if you wish.

The Red Tideans recieved news of the Amyntos surrender rather late. The K-10 Transport planes carrying a Mechanised Infantry Division were recalled, but the Typhoon-RT Ballistic Missile sub was kept at its station, after all, it still had 19 SS-32s with Burst-Warheads left. The sub moved at 12 knots, utilising its catipillar drive(read Tom Clancy's The Hunt For Red October for more information) to keep out of any sonar mans ears.

We also are happy to hear of your offer to sell us military equipment. When the imploded economy of Amyntos recovers we will favourably consider it.

[OCC: Very well, I've got some stuff to do too]

12 Sukhoi Su-33 Naval Military Aircraft, temporarily under the command of Vice Admiral Lucius Manilius Vulso, approach the Anagonian armada. Their orders are simple, to shoot down any of the transports attempting to leave the flight plan.

On the deck of the Furious the Admiral studies the latest radar report.

'The aircraft hasn't breached our airspace?' he asked his Chief of Staff?

'No sir, it seems to be an attempt to provoke,' answered the Commadore.

The Admiral laughed, he wasn't some inexperience mid-shipmen and he wasn't going to fall for a trick like that. He knew that politics were at play but didn't much care, all he was concerned about was protecting the sovereignty of his nation.

'Signal the 13th Submarine flotilla, I think they were about 18 miles north-east of our position. The High Command has just placed them under my command, let's bring them down here as well.'

'Yes sir', his Chief of Staff said, 'the Hawkeye?'

'I've already told you, no Anagonian unit is to be engaged unless they illegally breach our airspace or teritorial waters. I'm not in a hurry to get my fleet sunk, I want to avoid conflict with the Anagonians as much as the Senate.

In the meantime make our intentions known. No Anagonian ship is going to be freely allowed into our waters until the Senate says so. I want the destroyers to fire warning shots roughly a kilometer to port. Three volleys in quick succession, then stop. Make sure they aren't aimed at the Anagonian ships.'

OOC:

Sorry I haven't posted.

IC:

Rear Admiral Isis Destin snarled at this development. He wasn't one to be played games against, but he understood the fact of the matter. They had fired warning shots, and he understood why. He sighed, releasing the built-up anger somewhat. Thsi wasn't going to bother him, he loved playing games with people who take stands. He honored them, sure, but nonetheless liked pokeing them.

He grinned, he loved their confidence. He could easily make the Battleships fire warning shots, but for some reason he believed that would be taken as hostile action. So, he decided against it. There were other options too, but the sane way would be to just leave it as is.

Of course, he could poke them with a sharp sword with a submarine....

"Commander Yates."

"Yes Rear Admiral?" Commander Ori Yates looked up from the map table and over to Rear Admiral.

"Contact an Akula, and have them go near the territorial border. I want to see if they can actually detect it."

"Yes Rear Admiral."

Captain Duse Regas had just recieved his orders, reading over the sheet of paper one last time. This was turning into an interesting game of "Test-their-patience". He chuckled to himself quietly, wondering what else could go on. He knew about the E-2 Hawkeye, they had recieved constant reports from it. With them, he knew where to go and to stop, it was on the Map table anyway.

He turned to his Commander, George Palisk. "Commander, take us to their territorial border. Admiral wants to poke them hard."

Commander Palisk nodded, grinning, turning to to the rest of the bridge. "Make course to Praetoria Novus border. Heading One-five-zero. Make depth Two-hundred. Retrieve extended array's. Make speed Twenty nots."

"Make course One-five-zero degrees, Aye. Make Depth Two-Hundred, Aye. Make Speed Two-Zero knots, aye."

George turned to the Captian. "All made right."

"Good, let's scare the hell outta them."

The sonar officer had picked up something that sounded like.....water running through a pipe, but he had to listen carefully to hear it. Really? In a book I read, it was about a Los Angeles Class sub, the Russians used a tractor-like device...wasn't a sub. But it was still a tractor. I don't know, just supposed.

On the deck of the PNS Furious the Admiral was scrambling jets, observing the latest radar report. Aircraft carriers PNS Glorious and Sword (both Invincible Class) were on-route at flank speed, and would be linking up in less than 30 minutes.

The 13th Submarine flotilla (all Type 214s) had already arrived, consisting of 6 submarines, and was reporting that they were currently shadowing the Anagonian fleet.

And yet, the Anagonians were continuing to deliberately attempt to escalate the situation.

'Has it breached Praetoria Novian waters yet?' asked the Vice Admiral Lucius Manilius Vulso.

'No sir, not yet, it will very soon though if it doesn't turn,' responded the Commodore.

'Are they crazy? Why are they going down the path that will bring us to war?'Asked the Admiral, a hint of dispair in his voice. You have brought all surface vessels out of range of the Anagonian fleet?'

The Commodore responded, 'Yes, Vice-Admiral, I have, except the PNS Galant as you asked, which is there to relay signals. All ships are well outside visual range and the range of the guns of the Anagonian warships, but still well inside the missile range of our warships.'

The Admiral's voice hardned, 'Then its time to show the Anagonians that we aren't playing, but deadly serious. No foreign warship shall enter Praetoria Novus' sovereign waters while my fleet still floats, its simple as that.'

The Commodore was reluctant, but shared the Admiral's view all the same, Praetoria Novus' sovereignty must remain inviolable.

The PNS Galant alone now and at a distance of some 20km from the Anagonian war fleet, signalled the following message by morse-code, using blinking lights.

++Anagonian War Fleet. The Praetoria Novian Navy shall not tolerate you violating the sovereign waters of our nation. Praetoria Novus will, repeat, will go to war with you if you do not stand down. This shall serve the interests of neither nation. We do not wish conflict with your great nation. Respect our sovereignty++

As the PNS Galant finished its message it fire four volleys in quick succession from all main guns at two kilometres, in the general direction of the Anagonian fleet but not specifically at any vessel.

Moments later all 16 Sukhoi Su-33 Naval Military Aircraft in close formation buzzed the decks of the Anagonian capital ships at high speed, barely missing the tops of their superstructures. The Naval aircraft were all equiped with SS-N-22 P-270 Moskit ramjet-propelled anti-ship missiles, and this fact was not lost on Anagonian observers.

Before the Anagonian warships could respond the ships quickly screamed away, circling at a distance to mainain a close look on the Anagonian fleet.

The PNS Galant began to repeat the message.

From: The Senate of the Republic of Praetoria Novus
To: Chief Governor Dunan Ruuof the Executive Government of the Motherland of Anagonia

The Senate of the Republic of Praetoria Novus, sovereign government of our state, appeals to your great nation one last time to cease traveling down the path to war. The sovereignty of our nation is by far the thing that Praetoria Novian citizens hold most dear. We shall sooner go to war with a nation who will do nothing but bring us ruin then have it violated.

We implore you, one last time, turn back from the territorial waters and airspace of Praetoria Novus. Should you violate these, our hands will be tied. At the least consider the welfare of your men currently located in Elicia. At Elicia Island, 20 of your C-141B Starlifter aircraft are currently being held under close observation and their disarmed crews and troops interned and heavily guard by our elite Republican Guard and regular troops at holding facilities throughout the island (where they have gone for rest and relaxation). The island has been reinforced with some 45,000 troops and one armoured division.

Please, do not force war. We know that neither of us will benefit from it.

Project 971 Shuka-B Akula Class Attack Submarine - AAS-04 Figet

Everyone on board the Fidget knew what time it was. A dangerous task, yes, but nonetheless important to International Relations. This was something that any Anagonian Fleet would do if the tension was too great. They would order their vessels to "poke hard" at the other fleet, but not in the way many would think. It would be an interesting show of force.

The Akula had just passed into Praetoria Novus waters, Captain Duse Regas initiated the final part of his orders. Immedietly he ordered the submarine to surface, rasing a white flag of truce. Slowly, the ballast was released, and the Fidget rose quickly to the surface.

"One-five-zero feet.....one-two-zero feet......eight-zero feet...."

Commander George Palisk called the numbers out as they went, it was a duty, it was instinct. He continued, the sub lruching upward a few degrees. Everyone on board hung on, they were quite used to this. Then, the surb heaved and moved forward without resistance. They had broke the surface...

--------------------------------------------------------------

A huge momentum of water was forced upward as the shape of the Akula Class Attack Submarine could easily be seen slamming onto the surface. Immedietly, it seemed, men were rushing from inside, some raising some flag....

...a white flag.

Any Naval Commander, if experienced in this area, could easily see why there had been poking and pordding at their fleets. It was a friendly game, but it ended here. The Akula's white flag, in their sovereign waters, signaled the Fleets peaceful intentions. For a ship to give itself up this easily, could only mean two things in general.

One being the opposing fleet gave up because of its inability to fight the other, or two the opposing fleet gave the other a pat on the back. "Good game," this was all ment to signal.

OOC:

Weee, I like twists....No need to respond to the message just yet. I'd love to see your reaction. XD
Praetoria Novus

The Praetoria Novians had been tracking the submarine of course. The Anagonians had defied a direct order to respect their sovereignty, and yet this situation was unique. The Akula had surfaced (amazingly and inexplicably for a submarine commander never surfaced his boat in the presence of another Navy) and raised the flag of truce. Perhaps it was in trouble?

Almost immediately 5 Sea King HAS.Mk 6 advanced Anti-Submarine Warfare helicopters were over it, shining high beams at the submarine in the failing light. They made their intentions very clear over megaphone:

++Anagonian AKULA submarine. You are in sovereign Praetoria Novus waters. You will be boarded and escorted back to Elicium Naval base for your fate to be determined. If you attempt to flee you will be sunk. If you call for help you will be sunk. If you resist boarding you will be sunk.++

Already, the PNS Intrepid was steaming towards the Akula at flank speed, and would be arriving to take the strange submarine into custody within minutes.

Rear Admiral Isis Destin was pleased that the developing situation was going well. His intentions were interesting, to say the least. He had already recalled the E-2 Hawkeye an few minutes earlier, and it was on its way back. The batleships, all ships for that matter, had returned to a normal fleet formation, and it seemed as if the ships were moving....away.

However, not all is as it seemed. The Akula was there for a reason, it had a few special people on board. The game was over, a pat on the back was given. Now was the time for the last big suprise of the day.

Isis didn't want to risk having a war of words, all this time of prodding he had a better intention. He wanted to see their patentence, yes, but this went deeper, much deeper, than what it seemed. Anagonia wouldn't normally be doing this unless they had such a plan. Sure, you can go and say, "Good show," but when its this tense, you better have a bigger plan up your sleve.

"Everything going well," he asked the Commander.

Commander Ori Yates nodded, "Yes sir, everythings going according to plan."

Captain Regas looked over the order paper one last time, then folded it and put it in his pocket. If anything were to go wrong, there was back-up orders already in place on the paper. He sighed, not knowing what to make of the mission, his mission. Commander Palisk had his orders as well, basically the same, but different in the back-up. Either way, they were teamed in this, and if they didn't succeed in their mission, it could spell disaster for Anagonia.

Slowly, he climbed the ladder, his Commander going along. He continued to wear a Non-Diplomatic Uniform, which is to say he wore a Naval shirt and pants, just as any Captain would do. Luckily, there was another officer below taking care of the crew, so he had every right in the books to be going above. The Akula had stopped, basically nothing was on, nothing armed. It was unusual to say the least.

He gazed at the white flag, a signal of truce. In this case, it could easily be called surrender. But, that wasn't the mission. The mission was to understand, to talk. The mission wasn't necessarially survival, but it was, in all, a highly dangerous mission.

"Well, George, it seems we may be killed."

"Challenged Diplomacy sucks," he responded, sighing.

They looked at each other, a smile sneaking up on each others faces. Slowly, they started to laugh, and eventually laughed hard. This was a sign of the stress they had within them, and the laughing was as good a medicine as any.

As a last personal note, we would like to apologize for the abrupt actions of our fleet. However, I must admit that I allowed such actions, recieving regular reports I could have easily downed them. FROM: Chief Governor Dunan Ruu / Council

So far Anagonia has heard and is enjoying the framework of this process, however Anagonia is indeed a part of this as any other Nation, and would enjoy to place it's side into this arena.

While it is understandable that most of this war was fought by foreign powers near Amyntos, it would be folly to conclude that these powers should have sole rights to assisting Amyntos.

Anagonia wishes to be able to assist Amyntos in its time of need, to help rebuild and restructure, to help with civilian and military needs. Anagonia, being the Power it is, should not stand idely by with all its might and watch other Nations struggle to assist, no. Our Military, our Aid, our People should be there helping to rebuild.

While it is understandable that some Nations are highly worried concerning our intentions with Amyntos, we wish to go ahead and place a list of things we wish to be able to do. This is only a list, nothing more. It is extremely open for debate.

-1. The Motherland of Anagonia should be allowed to bring into Amyntos Civilian, Rebuilding, and Military Aid.
-2. The Motherland of Anagonia should be allowed to work with other Nations during any process concerning Amyntos.
-3. The Motherland of Anagonia would be willing to discuss building a Base in Amyntos to secure regional security, and allow a point of contact should any regional crises erupt. This would include an Embassy compound, or anything therein concerning construction.
-4. The Motherland of Anagonia would be willing to assist Amyntos's military by discussing terms of sales/giving military assests to Amyntos.
-5. The Motherland of Anagonia would be pleased to be allowed to send teams of Aid Workers.
-6. The Motherland of Anagonia would be willing to accept a written treaty concerning Amyntos, so long as Anagonia has any part in it.
-7. The Motherland of Anagonia would be highly willing to assist ANY Nation harmed during this conflict.

This is what we have come up with so far. It is understandable if many people are appaled by this list, but please be reminded that this is a list of suggestions, and nothing more.

In closing, the Motherland of Anagonia would love to enjoy the benefits of Alliances, and perhaps even a Treaty of Amyntos. Our Civilian, Military, Economic, and Domestic Might is ready, and willing, to assist. Leave us not hanging as we extend this hand of assistance, of friendship. We only seek to have a part in this, for we have played a part already. If we are to do one thing in these years of uncertianty, let it be helping a Nation back on its feet, perhaps even helping many Nations more. Do not fear us, we have no plans. Our only goal is to help Amyntos, and any other Nation, in any way possible, and ultimatly, to sign a Decleration declaring Amyntos a Nation once more.

Thank You,
Chief Governor Dunan Ruu

Official Government Communiqué

From: The Senate of the Republic of Praetoria Novus
To: The Executive Government of the Motherland of Anagonia

The Senate of the Republic of Praetoria Novus, of course agrees that as one of the belligerent parties in the Iridian States-Amyntos War Anagonia should be a full party to negotiations.

The Senate finds little of your demands which we do not agree with, however there are some minor points. We feel uneasy about the possibility of such a powerful nation becoming a military presence in the region. To often do nations assert hegemony over areas by first establishing military dominance via bases constructed in other nations. Praetoria Novus considers Amyntos within its sphere of influence, and though it would not see such a move by your government as threatning it would view it uneasily.

The Senate of the Republic does not object in any way to your forming a military alliance with Amyntos. However, in order to limit your influence in the region it would be loath to accept Anagonia becoming a part of the "regional defence initiative" proposed by the Confederacy of Iridian States.

The Senate would very much like to establish closer ties with your nation. However it would be more than a little concerned if you were to begin to take an active part in the affairs of this region as indeed you would if you established a military base in Amyntos. The Motherland is a powerful nation, and the political ramifactions of establishing a military base would far exceed the size of any contigent sent there.

Message from the Executive Government of the Motherland of Anagonia
TO: The Senate of the Republic of Praetoria Novus
FROM: Chief Governor Dunan Ruu / Council

We understand your concerns completely. With this understanding, and with the acknowledgment that we are indeed allowed to participate, we ask one simple question. In which is, what do you believe should be our part in this? Should we sit idely by and do nothing? Or should we immedietly send aid?

You are, indeed, the expert in this region. With respect, we also seek closer ties, and seek your council on this subject.

Thank You,
Chief Governor Dunan Ruu / Council
