Greenland, a goal of the Layartebians, once thought to be unattainable was finally a realization. Greenland was in Layartebian control, all 2,166,086 km². It was so important to gain full control over the island that the Emperor sent two full battlegroups: the 8th Enterprise Battlegroup and the 14th Wasp Battlegroup. This put a total of 84 ships for the annexation, which was sure to be peaceful. Callisdrunian governmental authorities promised a peaceful turnover following the complete collapse of their central government in Northern California, which was assimilated into the Roman Empire.

The battleforce assembled was enough to take over a small country. There were a mere 60,000 people on the island, unarmed, under the command of the last remnants of the Callisdrunian government. They were all assembled, waiting off the coast, offloading the vehicles and infantry of the 14th Marine Brigade. Aircraft would be overflying the island, flying reconnaissance and support, if necessary.

Then, suddenly, a flash in the sky appeared.

OOC: Is it actually a meteor, or some form of ICBM that I haven't been made aware of?

IC: Numerous monitoring stations in Northern Canada, both military and belonging to the Celtayoshi Space Agency (CYSA) picked up the light in the sky. There was momentary panic while the tradjectory of the object was identified, but once determined 'probably harmless' by the military, and 'hamless' by the CYSA there was little further action. Many of Celtayoshi's satellites equipped with photographic equipment, as well as many other monitoring devices picked up the light in the sky. All this data was downloaded and forwarded to the CYSA Headquaters in Russia, where a group of analysists where tasked with finding out what it was, although all initial factors pointed to a small meteor or satelite burning up on re-entry.

OOC: No it is a UFO. It is a UFO from a far away land called Cerlon. It fits into the whole Tale of Time RP I did way back when. The UFOs of them are the epitome of stealth. The only way to detect them is visually. Between both infrared and active radar they are invisible. This "streak" coming in will be identified as a meteor and it is likely that it is, very likely. Something must have happened to the UFO on entry into the atmosphere and caused its heat shield to breech, setting it ablaze and causing it to crash down like this.

The streak in the sky was brilliant. It was blue and red and orange and all sorts of colors. The men on the Unforgiven CGN were unable to track it before it appeared and before it streaked towards the ground, moving at speeds of unfathomable measures.

Operations Map

The meteor was heading towards the east, getting lower and faster as it went along. It finally streaked over the battlegroups, the sonic boom shaking the ships. Eventually it got too lower where it impacted. The impact was situated about 300 miles away from both battlegroups, near the center of the east to west span, just above the Arctic Circle. It slammed into the ground at an amazing 11 km/second, which was a speed of phenomenal energy. The explosion and flame lit up the sky for miles, shaking the ground for at least a hundred miles. The explosion and impact was massive with a brilliant green flame climbing above the horizon.

Onboard the 14th Wasp Battlegroup, things were already in motion. Marine forces were entering the main city, Godthåb, and establishing communications with the governmental leaders. More or less, available for investigation of the crash of the meteor was a single Marine company of 125 soldiers. With six CH-53E Super Stallion heavy lift helicopters, four AH-94B Stalker assault helicopters, four SH-60R Seahawks multimission helicopters, and four HV-24C Bulldog transport aircraft available for tasking, they had plenty of room. One hundred and twenty-five Marines were loaded into four CH-53E Super Stallions to be escorted by two SH-60R Seahawks and two AH-94B Stalkers. Along with them, three AV-8C Harrier III fighters, already in the air, would be diverted to investigate the crash site first. A KC-10A Extender tanker would be sortied for aerial refueling operations.

At the same time, deep within a bunker complex in West Virginia, three men were sitting down at a long, glass table. They were in a meeting room and all of them had about six dozen photographs in front of them. These were detailed imagry of the "meteor" from satellites in space. In addition, it had detailed imagry of the impact, which had only occured fifteen minutes ago. One of the men was Mr. Carpenter, the mysterious figure of the government that didn't exist anywhere. "What are we looking at gentlemen?" Mr. Carpenter spoke with a low, measured, and raspy manner. Occassionally, he would place unusual stress on syllables and awkwardly change the pitch of his voice. He often elongated "S" sounds.

"Mr. Carpenter it is most problematic. The impact of a Cerlonian UFO in Greenland means that they are once again probing our planet's defenses. The last time this happened, we developed the Doomsday Class. It seems that we need to find better ways of tracking them. As usual, it did not appear on either radar or infrared. Anti-stealth systems are not set up in Greenland for monitoring but they would have detected it. Leaving us unable to detect anything outside of our airspace."

"Precissssely my point. How are we with securing the site?"

"Marine elements from the 14th Wasp Battlegroup are on the way but they are 300 miles out. That puts them at least three hours away. Since we detected entry, we scrambled QRF-2 from Iceland. Their C-17A Globemaster should be over the crash site in about forty-five minutes, giving them at least two hours of complete alone time before the Marines get there."

"Perhaps we should call of the Marinesss?"

"It would be a problem if we did. We only have forty-eight individuals on that C-17, plenty to do the task at hand but Marines can provide perimeter security out to a mile from the crash site. This is what ought to have them do."

"Understood." Only two of the men spoke throughout the meeting. The third sat and took copious notes. Whether or not he was capable of speaking was unknown as his throat looked amiss. Perhaps he had something wrong internally. Either way, the men were all dressed in high quality suits, sporting solid color ties: blue, brown, and red.

Flying over the Denmarck Strait, the single C-17A was flying at 28,000 feet and maximum speed. The flight plan called for it to fly to within twenty miles of the impact site and then dive to 2,500 feet, where the forty-eight men would parachute out and secure the site. They were all armed with high tech weaponry: M52A1 Carbines, M47A1 LARs, M46 Desert Eagles, M45 Special Purpose Sniper Rifles, M35A1 LMGs, and M55A1 Automatic Shotguns. They were armed to the teeth, members of a secretive Black Operations Unit. They were all members of the 10th Black Operations Unit, "Force Earthquake." The 10th Black Operations Unit was perhaps almost as secretive as Force Falcon was, albeit not known to more than those involved, the Joint Chiefs, and the Emperor. Their tasking was simple, secure UFO crash sites. They were going to secure one right now.

Whilst they did, the Emperor immediately drafted a message to the world, to explain the impact. He had not been made aware yet that it was a UFO and would not be for some time.

Open Communique to the World

The Empire, whilst securing the safety and sanctity of the people in Greenland, has come to announce that a meteor has crashed in Greenland. Initial figures show the impact was in the order of 11 km/sec and that the meteor may have been the size of a baseball. More will come as the investigation continues. The Empire encourages all nations to monitor their airspace for any other occurances of unknown meteors. Unfortunately, there are just too many to track and not enough resources.

Thank You
The Emperor of Layarteb

The top secret tracking station deep within the mountains on Jan Mayen, which was located just a bit southeast of Greenland had failed to pick up the "meteor", but their long-range radar sweeps showed a single contact flying from Iceland to Greenland. It was probably a C-17A Globemaster or a C-5B Galaxy, but most likely the former. The fact that is was a single plane caught the Cots attention, and they sent up a few F-22Bs from the airstrip on Jan Mayen to check it out. Officially, they were just patroling their territory. Unofficially, they were to see if they could find out anything worth knowing, but they wouldn't violate Layartebian territorial waters or airspace, nor act in any way that could be conceaved as threatening. Meanwhile, the info was relayed to Cotlandstad and stored on a secure harddrive along with other strange reports concerning Layarteb. While the two nations were close allies, it never hurt to know what their friends were doing.

Follwoing the announcement made by Layateb the CYSA decided that it would classify this object as a meteor, although no clear pictures of it could be established. A Multi-Billion CYSC project was, however, announced to ensure next time Celtayoshi would be able to detect any approaching meteors in advance. This project, called 'Project Space Track' was to be announced at the bi-annual press conference of the CYSA.

ooc-a baseball sized meteor is nothing to launch a whole big concern about (pretending it was a meteor), lots of meteors hit or almost hit earth, but one the size of a baseball will not cause much damage, at worst it'll land in a field and start a fire. If the meteor was the size of Greenland, then we'd all be dead. But given the size of my nation, I'd say at least 10 meteors of baseball size hit my country annually

Naturally...this is why the communique to the world said future events. I did not say ELEs but it did include future scenarios.

The C-17 flew on, moving as fast as it could, towards Greenland. Over Iceland, long-range radar showed the skies to be semi-clear. Faint contacts were discovered, nothing to be alarmed about. Many of these "ghost" contacts appeared regularly, over friendly airspace. However, the anti-stealth sweeps did pick up something, a pair of F-22 fighters, flying from Jan Mayan. The Cottish knew something. The C-17s were almost over Greenland when they took off, putting them pretty far away. There was little concern, it could just be another patrol. The C-17 kept its course and its speed.

Finally, when the aircraft was at the run, it descended, rapidly, to 2,500 feet and the men inside got ready, very ready. When they were ready, they jumped from the C-17, pulling their chutes about 500 feet later. They would descend on the target rapidly, meeting up at a designated point on their GPS finders. Then, it was to the crash site, 1 kilometer away, which was perfect for them. They could see the flames and the site from the air, its green and blue flames lighting up the sky.

Yes but the point I am making is this meteor was not spotted in advance, it came completely out of the blue...which is not normal.

Oh yeah...definitely...I fogot the number but its a big number of the actual objects out there that come through the atmosphere and aren't even known unless they make a fireball streak. Others that disintegrate sometimes aren't even known about. It's a scary idea that an asteroid coming towards Earth IRL probably won't even be known until it's at the moon to kill us.

The forty-eight men met up immediately, the burning fire in the background, a kilometer away. The commander of the men was a Major, a veteran of military operations, especially black operations. He had four teams to control, including his own, each one being made of twelve men. "Alright men. Team One will secure the actual site. Team Two, form a perimeter to the north, six hundred meters out. Team Three, form a perimeter to the south, six hundred meters out. Team Four, form a perimeter six hundred meters out to the east. We'll have the Marines come in and secure the east from a kilometer, minimum. Lets get to it men, this place isn't going to stay for long." Immediately, they hoped to it and went to work, securing the site from their locations. The all, in addition, kept extreme silence and were well hidden. The ground around them was just as dark as their camoflauge.

Team One, on the other hand, immediately went to the crash site. The flames burned almost out of control, the blue and green flames heating up the air well beyond the normal air temperature. The twelve men climbed around the wreckage, which was, unfortunately radioactive. They had investigated several crash sites before and knew the proceedure. They were only to investigate the wreckage, see the status of it, and finally to see if any lifeforms were alive.

The wreckage was well isolated to the area. The aircraft had burned up on its way in but only the heat shield suffered. The skin of the aircraft survived. It was a testiment to the building of the Cerlonians. However, the impact did cause significant damage and spread the aircraft wreckage over a small area, two hundred square meters. Unfortunately, it was well beaten. As they investigated the wreckage and finally came up to the cockpit enclosure. "Earthquake HQ. Team One - Green reporting."

"Go ahead. Picture is clear."

"Wreckage area secure. Fire burning. Perimeters secure. Wreckage pretty pulverized and isolated. We have a lifeform. Alive. Though barely."

"Understood. We have further reinforcements coming. ETA two hours. Rescue operations should commence in six hours. We're going to airdrop vehicles and other supplies on your position in eight."

"Roger that. We're out. Advise Marines to secure east at range of one kilometer. Advise not to come near crash site. Radioactivity. Out."

"Understood. Out."

In the air, already off the ground from Baffin Island were four C-17 Globemasters full of reinforcements and vehicles. Another six were to be taking off shortly carrying more supplies. Four C-18 Galaxy II transports were inbound as well, to fly the wreckage pieces out. All flights were escorted by F-22A Raptors.

The Marines landed on time and started at the fires burning a kilometer away. They had to secure a perimeter to the east and they did. Daylight would be coming shortly and as the sun rose, the land of Greenland would be a new Republic of Layarteb or perhaps part of the Province of Dnalkrad. That was up to those making the decisions and it would be largely up to the leaders of Greenland, who would continue to serve, just under the Empire.

Supplies came in on time and on cue, with the sun risen. The air drop of reinforcements and the landing of the transport aircraft at the main airport allowed the Black Ops to completely secure the site. Wreckage would be flown out to investigation in West Virginia at the earliest convienence.

Days had gone by. The wreckage was more than secure and now hidden from prying satellites. A massive flotilla of sixteen cargo ships were sitting in the port of Ammassalik with a pair of warships escorting. One was an Unforgiven cruiser and the other was a Verrazano destroyer. The two ships sat heavy with weaponry, the cargo was too important to lose. P-7A LRAACA and P-8A Excalibur ASW aircraft would patrol their route throughout the duration of their journey whilst F-22A Raptor fighters and other aircraft guarded the air.

The entire cargo would be brought to Maine, where it would then be moved all the way south, to Kentucky, where it would be analyzed in a very top secret facility. This facility was well underground and well protected from all prying eyes and all forms of SIGINT.

Whilst this was underway, communication between the former leaders of Greenland and the leaders of the Empire was fully established. A treaty was ironed out and Greenland would be part of the province of Dnalkrad, the northern most and now largest province, in terms of land area. The acquisition of Greenland would be a major step towards control of the northern Atlantic. Aircraft could fly between Ireland, Iceland, the mainland of Europe, and North America safely. ASW aircraft had plenty of bases to operate from, along with refuleing aircraft. Ships had ports that were close to the action. Dominance of the northern Atlantic was just about a realiziation.
