Learn About Halberdgardia [OOC Bandwagon]

Yes, I finally succumbed (I was waiting for the other threads to die down, so we didn't get accused of spamming II with these threads). I'm on the bandwagon now. Same rules as the other "learn-about" threads. I hope you all ask some good questions, and give me a chance to flesh out my country a little more. So, ask away!

How many SSBN's does your navy operate?

The Halberdgardian Navy operates one-hundred Praetonian-made Tower-class ballistic missile submarines. They comprise a significant portion of the Halberdgardian Strategic Missile Command.

Well...How's Chicago? ;) I have little to say ICly...Ah, and would you be interested in joining AMW?

Chicago itself is sweet. I just visited it for the first time in at least six or seven years just this last Tuesday, and it was incredible. I remember why I loved it so much now.

Regarding AMW, I think I'm going to hold off on it. It looks like a great group to be sure (I've watched a few of the AMW threads, mainly yours), but I'm usually busy enough with schoolwork and the NSEarth RPs I'm already involved with to do much else. I will, however, keep AMW in mind if I choose to take another crack at an Earth (just recently left Earth NA, citing lack of time/activity). However, you may yet see a request to join from me one day, my friend...

I find Chicago-style Hot Dogs odd and unfamiliar. They are sweet, but I feel for meat and bread, its far too Cantonese sweet for me. Do you prefer Chicago-style or New York City-style. I consider a Hot Dog without sauerkraut to be an act against God.

What do you have in the way of artillery?

My nation is extremely similar to the United States, with a few exceptions (disagreements between my personal beliefs and current policy on certain issues). We're like a doubled-up version of the U.S.; that is, we're essentially the same, only more than twice as big.

Secondly, I'll have to think about opening relations. The only contact we've really had is during the Malkyeri Civil War, and even then, we didn't really cooperate closely. That's not to say we couldn't have a non-aggression and/or free trade pact at the very least, but anything more than that I'd have to consider carefully. I need a justifiable pretext when signing alliances, you know. :p

I was expecting "what do you think of us"-type questions from you and McKagan, but you two surprised me.

Your opinion on Chicago 'dogs aside (:p), we've actually got very little in the way of artillery. I believe it was 5000 units of U.S. Crusader artillery at last checking. I bought them when I was starting out, and never really bothered to upgrade them. I prefer strategic and carpet bombing raids, and naval bombardment, to artillery strikes when laying the smackdown on someone.

At your school, are you considered a nerd, a rockstar, or are you like Leaf and you declared yourself emperor? :p

1. Now that the situation in Malkyer has settled down after the civil war, would Halberdgardia be interested in furthering ties with the Imperial Commonwealth?

2. Dude. What's with the alliterative K names in your country? Kir Kanos, Kenix Kil, etc. Just curious.

I'm a bookworm, no doubt. Like to read, LOVE U.S. history, particularly WWII and Cold War-era, not very athletic (I play tennis and badminton recreationally). I'd love to lead a revolution to overthrow the school's administration, though. :p

1.) Most definitely. Perhaps we can set up a closed diplomacy thread sometime. I may have to put it off for awhile, though; my President's in a secure location pending the end of hostilities with Doomingsland (probably won't be for awhile; though I could have him come out of hiding for a little if need be), and my SecState, who I'd normally send, is at the Portshire Convention being hosted by Truitt.

2.) Kir Kanos and Kenix Kil are both characters in the Star Wars Expanded Universe (primarily the novels that take place after Return of the Jedi, and are considered "semi-canon"), and are actually the same person. Kir Kanos was an Emperor's Royal Guardsman until the Emperor's death in ROTJ. In the EU, the Emperor was resurrected in a clone body six years later, but was later betrayed by a former Guardsman who tampered with his clone supply. Kanos was furious, hunted the man down, killed him, then assumed the alias of Kenix Kil, and became a bounty hunter, seeking out the other betrayers of the Emperor, all the while remaining fanatically loyal to the remnants of the Empire. I liked the name, and I've assumed his identity for many different online applications. This is just one more manifestation of them. On a side note, Kanos' term as President is set to expire soon, and Kil is going to win the Presidency in a landslide election, primarily due to his invaluable diplomatic skills. If you're really interested, there's a bit more detailed story about Kanos' past, at his official StarWars.com Databank page (http://www.starwars.com/databank/character/kirkenixkilkanos/eu.html).

Buy any sort of Uniform and some sort of miiltary rank on it, and then declare yourself emperor. Its easy once you look official. And join me, together we shall RULE!

As for more of how I am, I'm more like the 'Big Daddy' mobster type. I know people, nearly everyone, and can help you get things. Whee!

My armor corps is comprised of three different types of MBTs: the so-called "light MBT," our medium MBT, and our frontline, heavy-hitter.

Our light MBT is the MassPwnage Type 98XR (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=9449044&postcount=20) armor unit, which we have designated the M-125 "Viper." We maintain 24,000 Vipers, though we are preparing to phase them out as soon as we decide on a suitable model.

Our medium MBT (our previous frontline model) is the MassPwnage T-125 "Proletariat" MBT (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=9448964&postcount=19), which we have designated as the M-175 "Hammerblow." We maintain 20,600 M-175s.

Our new frontline MBT is the Lame Bums Ostkampfwagen VIII "Ferne" (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=9465891&postcount=47) MBT, which we have designated the M-200 "Hellhound" MBT. We maintain 25,000 M-200s.

I have two OOC questions.

What do you personally think of the United Nations?
What do you think of corrupt corporations (see my Southeastasia declares war on Joint Conglomerates OOC signup thread) that have absolutely no respect for human rights; sadistically torturing people without care?
Halberdgardia
26-09-2005, 22:29
1.) If you're talking about the RL U.N., I'd have to say that it's a valuable, if flawed, institution. It's a (small) step towards becoming a truly global community, a single, united species. If you're talking about the NS U.N., it was a good idea, but personally I believe that much of the usefulness of the U.N. comes out of features that were deliberately left out; e.g. the Security Council (for dealing with rogue nations, imposing sanctions, organizing peacekeeping efforts, etc.), the World Bank (to help developing nations), the World Health Organization (to generally improve standard of living), and more. Without those useful aspects, the NS U.N. has been reduced to a near-useless institution that routinely violates its members' sovereignty by forcing them to accept nearly 300 resolutions as law, and sucking the life out of member nations' economies like a leech with those same resolutions. I think I left the U.N. after it looked like the "Dolphin Protection Act" or somesuch nonsense was going to pass, at the expense of my rapidly-growing economy. I'll do what I want with the dolphins in my EEZ, thank you.

2.) Somewhat corrupt corporations we can occasionally turn a blind eye to (particularly in the case of our closest allies), but other corrupt corporations that go beyond "questionable" money-making practices and blatantly violate human rights we consider despicable. We abhor human-rights violations in all forms, and we have stepped into many a conflict to uphold basic human rights.

1. What is the IC status of relations between our nations (I have been away from NS for almost a few months and wondering if anything has deteriorated.)

2. What does your nation think of my nation ICly.

(Yes their boring questions, and so the same but meh.)

[[On a side note, as a NYer I would say NY hotdogs rule, even the ones from the stands on the corners and yeah, there we go.]]

We have no opinion of you, as we've not had any IC contact yet. However, if your nation has the qualities you described in #2 of your last post, then we're not going to like you much. At all, actually.

1.) Relations between us are still good; nothing's deteriorated.

2.) We still remember your assistance from the Saharistan War and a few of the subsequent conflicts we were involved in, and we still look at you as a loyal friend and ally.

*laughs* Trust me, I'm not like that at all, IRL and ICly. I have a great respect for human-rights. I'm neither a hawk nor a dove. If I had to pick a bird from the aviary to describe my nation's foreign policy, it would be an owl: observe silently, play very diplomatically, strike only when absolutely neccessarily. I named him after Kir Kanos, the actual name of a character from the Star Wars Expanded Universe. Kanos later takes on the alias Kenix Kil, whose name I used from my SecState.

Our AA defenses are not insubstantial, so you'll probably get a bloody nose trying to do so, but I imagine you'll still be able to wreak some sort of chaos. Anyways, the map can be found at my factbook:
