Verghastinsel

OOC: Some bloke has taken over my nation whilst riding on a wave of discontent from veterans of the 'Teng War. Oh well, life goes on. But voting doesn't.
Also, much thanks to Euroslavia for deleting that no-title thread. It's odd, but he's the only one I seem to see in II any more...Are most mods Generalites now?
IC:
"...Betrayed! Betrayed by the stay-at-homes, and the profiteers! Betrayed by those who denounced our task, denounced US! O my brothers! We who have seen Death and faced him down, we who have lived our lives upon the edge of the chasm for our nation and our people and OURSELVES! We who risked everything for nothing! No other men are there such as we, and our comrades!
"We fought, we DIED for them! And what is our thanks? We are shunned. We are reviled. I will not pretend that I am proud of everything that I have done, no man can say that with truth. But I obeyed my orders, I did my duty as every man here, but this I cannot stand. From our own leaders, an apology? A farcical claimance of guilt which was not even ours?
"For shame, Chancellor, that you should let us be so weak as to accept responsibility for another's crimes. You have proven that no elected representative, interested only in lining his own pockets at the expense of his country, can properly lead us. Yet the people cannot govern themselves, for the differences between individuals would tear us apart in an instant. No...We need a cause. A vision. One purpose that might unite us all, as one mind, one body, one future to guide us, to preserve us against the selfish profiteer and the grasping churchman and the subversive foreigner...To regain our pride and our honour, our dignity and our strength! One nation! One glorious future!
"We shall not pander to the whims of diplomats and false men! We shall not lay upon our backs for the corporate beast to take us like babes! We shall fight! We shall struggle, for there is nothing in the world that is worth having that is free! And we shall TRIUMPH!
"United in mind, body and spirit there is nothing which can hold us! The soldiers are our countrymen, let them join us! The children are our dawn and the womenfolk are our steadying hands! Rise up, men of Verghast! Do your duty to yourselves and your flag! Rise up and take tomorrow by the throat and WRING YOUR DESTINY FROM IT!"
Rickard Lusoff - Speaking to assembled crowd of approx. 130,000 civilians at the steps of the Senate. At this point, he led the crowd into the senate, demanding the resignation of the Chancellor of the Republic, and the dismantling of the senatorial system. The 1st Legion, normally bodyguards to the Senators, were on operations and the 45th Legion which took their place mutinied when ordered to open fire on the civilians.
Lusoff was appointed by popular approval to represent the people of Verghastinsel in all interests, both at home and overseas. The army has officially sworn itself to the new government, with the loss of relatively few officers to desertion and 'friendly fire'. Lusoff has vowed to put Verghastinsel foremost in all areas.
"This is the will of the People. Who am I to oppose them?" - Benedikt Koch, Chancellor of the Republik, 1986-2008
