0100 Hours Moscov Standard Time
Militaristic Mandate; Order of Premier Demitri Valin
All fleets except the 3rd Crimson Fleet is
to leave port for Batumi immediately to test
quick-response drilling.
All fleets are to arrive before 0400 hours
or the entire crew will be reassigned,
as they will not meet our fast-response standards in place.

They are to go and restock,
and re-advert direction to the order given once there,
you men will be spanning across our entire coastline
to familiarize yourselves with your homeland.

Be prepared for battle,
and even if this is a drill, you must be ready.
Dummy ships with live munitions may be waiting to test your skills.

With that the fleets hastily deployed, the majority from Crimea. The masses of the fleets were those of submarines, Olsen-class SSKs.

Their armaments were ready to sink any ship that was not Crimson or Red.

Some 4,670 troops, trained by Soviets and armed with Peacekeeper I rifles with some 56 VI-3 heavy battle tanks following, made their way to the Turkish border and the coastline above the border.

They knew that if they a uniform that was not Soviet or Oseat, that it was an invasionary force. "We are being attacked and are ready for defence" was the common order given to the troops from their generals.

The submarines ran silent toward the coastlines, mostly those of Sinop, Istanbul, and Trabzon.

A submarine, already having its tubes flooded found with a weak sonar hearing a ship running at a cruise only a thousand yards away. Somehow it had come too close for comfort. "Fire tubes one and four, now!" Commander the submarine captain. The torpedoes flew and hit their target, a civilian supply ship carrying some sort of heavy cargo, probably raw metals or building materials.

The captain yelled over the line as a sonobouy was floated to the top furiously "Operation Crimson Tide has begun, I repeat, Operation Crimson Tide has begun!" The message was sent to all the submarine captains and to the leaders at Kiev and Moscow.

"Sir it has begun!" said Zhukov to Trotsky. "Very well I want 500,000 men on the Turkish order within the hour along with 1,000 VI-3's, 2,000 T-34's, and 2,000 KV-2's. Send word to the AirForce to begin bombing and strafeing the Turkish border and announce to the people that Operation: Crimson Tide has begun and that soon millions more will know the greace of Communism!" and with that Trotsky left the room to go speak with Kerensky.

0137 Hours Muscov Standard Time, Turkish-Soviet Border

MiG-9's flew across the border headed for the nearest Turkish Air-Base. As they neared the twenty fighters unlocked their weapons and flew over the base...

"Red Leader to Red Group. Drop your bombs! I repeat drop your bombs!"

Fourty High Explosive Incendiary bombs fell from the sky and dropped down into the base as the MiG's strafed the planes that escaped the bombing..

0153 Hours Muscov Standard Time, Yerevan, USSR

"General. The troops and armour are ready. We await your word."

Voroshilov studied the man before him. A typical Russian officer. Not a man that would stand out in a crowd and definantly a man used to hardship. The General left his chair and walked outside to adress his troops...

"Comrades! Today we march on Turkey! Tommorrow, the world!"
Cheers erupted among the men and the General had to wait untill he could be heard again...
"Operation: Crimson Tide has begun. Let Communism reign the world over and let the workers of other nations realize the greatness of Communism and the rights you have! For Russia! For Ukraine! For Communism!"

Vigorous cheers erupted among the men and many could be heard talking about how they'd tell their children about their part in the Great Revolution for years.

They boarded trucks and crossed the Turkish border. A line of trucks and men from horizon to horizon. Surely the Turks would run with their tails between their legs...

And East Serbia, you could introduce yourself as a new state by RPing Turey, if you wouldn't mind. The time is 1946 and WW2 has not happened, but may be on the verge. I just broke from the Soviet Union, and Yugoslavia is at war with Germany (just about the only things happening next to this).

IC:

After the sinking of the cargo ship all 30 deployed SAV-Boats took off silently around, gathering in packs of six with five groups each. These "Sharks" as the crews called them went and started to hunt for anything in sight.

"Sir, we have a large ship, making a lot of noise, I belive it is an other cargo." The Capitain was alerted in a whisper. He nodded and made a sign-language sign for "periscope."

It fell down and with a thumbs up they were at periscope depth, just barely visible from the surface. Looking he saw a lot of people ontop. But at the front was an odd item. It appeared to be a gun, but had no barrel. He nodded at the men and said without a whisper "Fire tubes two and three, and lets see what's left before we do anything else." He did not speak in the militarized Russian, but in Romanian, showing he was from the southern borders. As was his crew as they acknowledged in the same language and began the prepairations for launch.

The Crimson Army located at the border nodded at the incomming Soviets. "Comrade General, we have your back." Said an Oseat general, approaching a large specialized tank which had a prestigese man ontop ihn full badges and a hammer and sickle shoulder band. "Thank you, comrade." The Soviet said as he ordered his tak to continue on.

The men startd to cross the border. It was already smashed to bits by air raids from MiG-9s and artillary with a few tank blasts here and there. "Prepair the MiGs, I want our brothers to feel protected in the skies!" Commanded the general who had spoken to the Soviet.

Within a few minutes after te border crossing four MiG-9C's flew over them, blitzing their wings to the left in a salute and then continueing on. With them were two rocket bombs each and enough cannon fire to take themselves out.

OOC: I've always wanted to play as Turkey
So, what excatly is the situation though, Cause, i don't really know who my friends or enemies are, or where they are.
Also, just for clarification, this is WWII tech?
Truitt
24-09-2005, 01:26
OOC: Pretty much WW2 tech. As for Turkey, we picked it because it would be our only problem. Figuring its army was its only threat at the time before WW2 (which we are saying is all NPCed stats are) I have already started destroying your few vessels, civilian or other wise, U-Boat style. Russia is heading an assault along a very narrow border, the same one you hold with Georgia.

I wouldn't mind if you picked a not-so-targetted nation, like possibly Poland (unless Germany goes crazy) or the Koreas, maybe even Japan.

But yeah, there are no allies except Cyprus, but I doubt you'll get any help (since it is also NPCed). Enemies are myself and Phil. (Russia), I am Ukraine.

Also, you're invading from the black sea, correct, seeing as your troops com from Ukraine

Ramiz Matera had quite a situation on his hands. He was one of the few generals that did not desert after hearing about the impending invasion. The Army, was Powerful, in terms of manpower, and supplies, but The Navy was defensless against the enemy submarines, and the Almost complete lack of experienced pilots did not help in his efforts either. The lack off modern tanks was made up for by the extreme surplus of 88mm guns, which could be mounted to cliff-faces, of which there were many. It would be a long and bloody war if the enemy gained a foothold in the country, especially with two fronts to guard.

He decided that He would most definitely be the General that did not flee. He would Halt the enemy at the borders. The towns near the borders had already been evacuated and fortified in preparation for the attacks. What few planes that were still left were being used to bomb roadways, and cliff-faces, causing avalanches, blocking several key passes into the country, which would take weeks to clear. Army engineers also demolished passes and cliffs, blocking the path further into the country. Many times, artillery shells could be heard firing in the distance. If only the Communists knew they were targeting mock-up positions, prepared for just such scenarios.

One pass however, was not demolished. The sole pass left into the country, large enough for tanks to drive through. Ramiz had chosen to leave this passage open, knowing tanks were the only weapon the Turks did not have it would give the enemy an advantage, except when they could only fit two tanks wide down the pass. It would be a hell of a battle, but the Tanks were the only way the Russians could hope to do damge in the country. But, instead of blocking them ompletely, he would face them.

The cave sytems around the pass itself were full of ammo cahes and tunnels leading from one defensive position to another. Every position was being tken advantage of, spots big enough to put 88mm guns were being used for exactly that, smaller spots for machine gun nests and smaller ones for Individual sharpshooters. The entrance to the pass was mined, and covered by ten 88mms, enough for roughly one shot to be made every second.

The only thing left to do was wait behind their camoflouged netting, until the enemy came.

OOC: A little confused there, did you explain the borderlands, their terrain? Also, we are invading from the Georgian border. Ukraine has different borders than it does today (I have the western half of the black sea Soviet Union land-bridge thingy,.....nice name), so it is still my borders, but Russia will be heading the assault. Remember I have a few subs all over your northern coast and in the sea pass (inbetween Euro and Mid-East Turkey) reaking tyranny, and I have fighters and soon to be bombers taking off. I am not the one holding the main offencive, I hope you relize.

I will make a more in-depth battle post tomorrow.

IC:

The Premier walked slowly up to his podium. Radios and television crews were there to catch his speech. It was supposed to be on healthcare and the advancing communist spred, the freedom of the people from classes and capitalism. But instead he said "Today, my fellow Ukraineans, we were attacked along our borders by the Turkish fascists. Their weak and fragile state made them think they could rise to glory by taking our own weak and social country, but our big brother, the Motherland, is aiding us in a massive counter-offencive, and this just shows who our true allies are. Please, stand by us, for already nearly a hundred civilians under the Crimson Seal have died becuase of these mockeries of life! Please stand with me, people of the Oseat Union, and fight for a cause greater than just our own!"

The crowd did not know of the invasion but was filled with disgust at the Turkish for doing such a thing. All over the nation people enlisted with patriotism flying through their weak veins and factories being built for nearly no Additive Privlages to their already Common Privlages. Most inland, other than the southern island of mass shipyards.

Ukraine was turning for war, and it had only been a few hours since the first speech. Crimson lies were soon to be truth as hsitory books would be written as Turkey invaded first, with them being cowards in denying it. No nations were observing the beginning of the conflict, so it could be possible. Some would be for the defeat in Turkey on the soviet part, but some may love it. Valin knew this, and with it he called up his friends in Moscow.

"I want a full air superiority over the Turks admediately, they have mountains; terrible for tanks. Use your armor for occupaition or massive sieges, use artillary in replacement." He hung up quickly. It was the answering machine, an oddity for a government building, but they both had them installed incase the other was not reachible.

IC:

Ramiz Matera could not believe his eyes as he read the communique as it was printed out by the Cypher.
Turkey had found an Ally. An ally that would not stab Turkey in the back, as so many of its own commanders had. Overnight, the Other top Genrals of the Turkish Army had deserted, leaving Him as the Commander in Chief of all Turkish Military branches.Ramiz was a 35 year old 2 star general, now appointed theatre commander. Ramiz was extremly grateful that the Regulars were not as cowardly as the generals had been.

"Sergeant, send word back to Madrid that we whole heartidly accept the offer, and are willing to pay any price after the war to repay them" He said " tell them they can make Cyprus the Spanish Base of operation for this war"
"Yes, sir"

He moved to another Cypher
"You, I want all Black sea ships to be anchored in harbor, we've got no more business in that sea for the time being, I want regular recon flights over it however, to make sure the Communists don't plan an amphibious attack"

Ramiz actually doubted the Russo-Ukraine forces would try something as derelict as an amphibious invasion on the Rocky cliff-faces of the Turkish coast, He knew what amphibious landings were like. He had often heard his father tell him of the carnage unleashed on allied soldier during WWI on the amphibious attempts then.

OOC: Also, just so nobody gets confused, I'll be using my current government type for my actual Nation as my government for Turkey, I assume everyone else is too?

Message to Spanish Body of Government
I have seen your supplyment to the Turkish peoples, and you do not understand what we are doing. We are defending ourselves from a attack on our borders, and because we cannot protect ourselves clearly, we have called on our only ally.

If Portugal attacked you now, and you were counter-attacking in you time of perell, wouldn't ask an ally, let's say Italy, to aid you souly out of the goodness of brotherhood?

Your acts of treachury for hate of non-oppressive governments is noted, and you are just as corrupted as the monarchs before you killing non-Catholics. Aiding a nation whehn it attacked first in hopes of an easy kill is not fond of any government, communist or otherwise.

SAV-Boats deispatched, finding no threats in the blue waters. Getting bolder a single submarine, running just a few knots, glided itself to a harbor mouth. It listened and found noises of manuvering engines and crewmen on metal flats.

"Admirel Kishoveck, the hostile ships are at harbor." Alerted the submarine after returning to its group. The Admirel, ohn the shores of Crimea, noted this and said "Start mining the areas, acid-spores, some fifty times force worth. Two submarine worth. I don't want damage, I want a reason for mine hunters to come out and get slaughtered trying to open a doorway."

The submariners acknowledged this and began the operations.

OOC: So, let me get this straight.

Basically, I had a ship sunk about a mile off Crimea, and I DON'T know about hostilities?!?

I've been engaged in dogfights with Truit and I also don't know their are hostilities?!?

Now I know your workin the whole Blitzkreig thing, but as i've stated, and most people know, tanks only go so fast over mountains, and i've already let you slide enough in the amount of land i've given up; considering the current location of the troops describe earlier are a bit past the intersection of the roads from Kars and Karakose heading to Erzurum

Also, I realize the Ottomans were defeated in WWI, i just needed an approximate power estimate.
Truitt
25-09-2005, 21:30
OOC: No no no no, I must have worded it oddly. I have only engaged, so far, two civilian ships carrying supplies or people (as in a cruiseline). Crimea is where the Admirel is at, not the rest of the SAV-Boats (Submarines; Submergible Assualt Vesseled Boats). They are mostly located along the water straight between Euro and Arab Turkey, cutting off any ships trying to get from Southern Turkey into Northern Turkey.

I also need some more information on these ports the ships are located as to mine them (unless they are open sea, then I may just have to attack them head-on). My mission in this campain is to occupy taken lands and create a naval dominance, so I want no hostile ships.

Also, the only advantage the Turkis have over all the other targets of ours is that they have a stable economy, sorta, and that could make them a threat if we attacked everyone else and then them (with Turkey knowing we would attack next).

7th Oseat Heavy Support Division, 2nm North of Turkish Border

The day was cold and windy, but beyond that it was a typical day in the region, dispite the sounds of diesel engines and roaring of jets and motors starting.

The alert that the Soviets stopped ust after the border as a little troubling to the General who had spoken to his comrade just an hour ago. The General himself even thought the Turkish government had attacked first, so this was stressful enough just knowing he was facing an agressive enemy.

"What is the word of the Third Airborne?" He asked a telecommunications officer just across the tent from him at a plastic grayish desk. "They are deploying now, and should be within Turkish Airspace within the quarter." The General smiled and said "Fabulous, comrade. Get ready to deploy, we shall bring them down, yet. Tell the Sourschlovs to go ahead." The telecommunicator acknowledged and relayed the message.

With that the 3rd Airborne, a group of four attackers and two fighters, was to fly over them. When this happened, the were to charge with their 34 KV-3 HBTs, 2,340 men armed with Peacekeeper I Rifles, and some 120 artillary pieces being towed by the Heavy Battle Tanks. Light transpots did not exist, as the infantry was to either sit ontop of the tanks or artillary as they drove along or would walk briskly.

The assault had begun as a roaring thunder came from overhead.

OOC: I have SAV-Boats (Submarines) near your ports and what not, so mind elaberating on thier status? That way I can mine, attack, or just sit there. More notibly on the ports within the straight.

Reis Turget, only 16 at the time, sat in his saddle as his horse cantered along the rocky path towards the expected soviet positions. His heart was in his throat as he approached. He could hear the diesel engines over the hill directly in front of him. He leaned over his saddle, and threw up off the side of the Thouroghbred he was sitting atop. He hoisted his White flag into the air as he saw the first few tanks. He trotted closer and stopped. At First the convoy seemed to not take notice of him, but when the Infantry began to notice him, he heard shouts, and he shut his eyes. As he prepared for bullets to rip through him, he heard a vehicle stop alongside th road, and a Man asked him in Turkish
"What are you doing here, boy?"
"I deliver a message from High Commander of the Turkish Fascist Military, Ramiz Matera!" he replied monotomically, and stuck an envelope far out in front of him, not even opeing his eyes. He recited the message word for word, how they had taught him to do so many times.
"I am also oredered to deliver your reply back to Turkish High Command"

Major Risi Abdullah gazed out of the window of his headquarters at the beautiful city of Istanbul and asked himself how such a glorious place could be involved in something so ugly.
His daydreams were interupte however, as a mindshattereing explosion ripped the air. He saw smoke billowing from a destroyer trying to enter the harbor.
"Holy God!" he shouted.
He immediately had his officers at the harbor on the telephone.
"What the hell was that?"
"Sir, we're not sure, it could have been a torpedo or a mine"
"Alright, well, stop the ship incase it's a mine, but hoist a white flag in case of a torpedo attack."
He looked though binoculars to see the dockworkers flagging instructions to the ship's crew.
The ship in question, was a military transport ship, but its mission had nothing to do with the military. It was about to dock at Istanbul with a load of Refugees from the Eastern part of the Country fleeing the invasion forces and bombings.
The crew of the Ship was declaring their innocence to any subs that might be lurking by flagging messages out to sea.
"I want a de-mining ship out their NOW" he yelled

IC:

The Oseat barrates made their way fastly, the heading troops sitting ontop of heavy tanks, artillary, and the few assaulting transports. As they saw the Soviet line over the horizon, the speed slowed as for the running infantry to catch up.

"Comrade General, I am Roshev Fuer, Captain of this division. I am here to hold any possitions you may gain during this particular exercise." Said a man in decorations all over his chest and shoulders as he saluted a man ontop of a heavy command tank, an obvious general.

Istanbul

The Olsen-class which had sent a torpedo off watched calmly at the now-still standing ship. "Sir, periscope information says that the ship had hoisted a white flag." The Captain thought for a moment. A military ship carrying valuable explosives that could kill his comrades having a white flag raised. This was interesting. It could easily unload at the dock and the arms would go to an other ship, or worst, it could be soldiers comming from some island off the coast.

"Ready tubes one and two, aim them at the surrendering ship. If they accelerate, shoot." He commanded as the message was relayed to sonar and weapons control. "Sir, we need to have this place mined, regaurdless. General's orders from Crimea." Noted the periscopeer. "We shall do it once this ship evacuates all its crew."

He began to explain a plan. The sonar room would bounce sonar pings off of the ocean bed onto the ship's hull. Each ping will be like a bleep in morse code. He ordered the message to be repeated only twice, to prevent a miss-fire that may give off their possition.

Unload all crew, leave personal belongings and other articles onboard. If the ship accelerates into harbor, it will be shot at. We have periscopes all over watching the life boats, if anything that resembles a supply crate, munitions, or what not, the ship will be attacked along with the safety boats.

It would take only two minutes to send out the full message, five minutes tops for sending it twice.

He prepaired his lone submarine for a shootout, if it came.

"Okay, the message just repeated itself again, we've got to get those people off of this ship" The First mate repeated to the Captain
"Yes, i know, but we;ve only got enough lifeboats for the original 100 man crew, this is a military ship, we were never meant to carry this many people in the holds, it was always supposed to be supplies, you know, expendable stuff"
"Shit"

*30 seconds later*

"Sir, they're signaling. Oh jeeze, they don't have enough lifeboats. They're requesting we send rescue craft to them"
"Damn, I don't know if our friends underwater will give us that kind of lattitude, but it's the only thing we can do, I'm not losing those people. Send the boats up from the opposite shore so that they're sonar signature is masked by the transport."
"Yes, sir, I'm getting the Harbor master on the radio now"

*******************

Halil Shariff lowered his binoculars andgazed at the trail of dust on the path ahead. He put them up again and looked at the lead tank, covered in Infantry, moving at a brisk 30 MPH, a dangerously brave speed for the narrow path.
He lifted his radio to his lips.
"Okay, here comes the first wave friends" He slid down the rocky slope. He picked up his MG-34 Squad Machine gun and sprinted the hundred meters to about 15 feet from the first 88mm battery. The crew began preparing the weapon, bringing up ammo and targeting the road. The others, scattered across the valley, began doing the same. The valley was about 150 yards across though the entrance was only 100meters. The valley walls went straight up, except for the positions occupied by the guns. The few mines given to the defenders were scattered at random on the canyon floor. Barbed wire sat ominously streched along the floor.
Lt. Sharone Mazarah walked down a trench line occupying the far end of the canyon. The set of tank trenches in front of his would stop tanks, but if the valley was taken, they could be filled in within a matter of minutes by a well trained bulldozer driver.
Sharone stroked his beard in ambition as his men prepared weapons, and clipped ammo belts into MG's all around him.
"listen up, remember what you're fighting for soldiers. Be brave, but not stupid, we're in for a long war" he shouted as he Picked up his rifle and climbed a rocky set of makeshift stairs to his position, small pile of boulders about 40 feet off the valley floor. He sat behind a boulder, adjusted his scope, and meditated until the enemy began enter the valley.

He knew what was going on. The enemy was attempting some sort of Blitzkrieg style attack. That typically meant they didn't bother bringing snipers along. Snipers were moral weapons, especially when the advance is halted. Still, he prepared himself for the mental battle of sniper to sniper combat.

The first tank began to come into view. They would fan out as soon as they came under attack. little did they know about the sheer number of guns the Turks were using. Still, the roacky floor of the canyon would allow for good infantry cover, even though prooving a deathtrap for most armour. Five tanks had so far entered the canyon. The signal came. A single flare shot into the middle of the valley from the trenchline strongpoint The artillery piece went off hitting a tank right betwen the turret and the chasi. other shots either made there marked or didn't, but the fight was on...

Bay of Adana

General Franco stood on the bow of the massive battleship, the R.G. Tantanzo , the mist of the water splashing up onto his Aviator glasses which glistened in the morning sun. A smile cracked over his face as he heard tanks being prepared in the cargo hold on the ship trailing the Tantanzo, tanks that would be unloaded in a mere number of hours. The troops were eager for battle, the months of nationalism were flowing through their blood thirsty veins, they wanted a battle. War was coming.

25 Serpiente Tank Divisions were loaded onto the massive transport ships that toar through the thick Mediteranean Sea, 250 Tanks in all, a combination of Serpiente I's and II's, the later of course being superior, the former still a worthy opponent to anything the Russians had to offer. Already Artillery Pieces were being raised onto the decks of the transports, heavy and light guns, ranging from 37mm to 155mm guns, all being loaded onto the their seperate crates. In total there were about 15 Heavy Gun Batteries (150 Heavy Guns) and 12 Light Gun Batteries (120 Light Guns) on the various transports, all being prepared for battle. The older TA-1 Anti-Tankers were also being prepared, though developed a year or two ago, their guns were still able to pierce nearly any armor on the modern battle field. However, the most eager and exictied group were the infantry. 95 Divisions, 95,000 Troops were loaded onto a combination of transports and other such vessels, their cheers could be heard for miles round, as they chanted various Fascist sayings, sung the national anthem, and made jokes about Russian women.

The fleet consisted of seven destroyers, three cruisers, two battle ships, and an aircraft carrier. Of course, this was not including the large number of transport vessels and unseen B-Boats. Onboard the Aircraft Carrier sat 35 Stinger's and 25 Halcon Dive Bombers, which were to be unloaded at a make-shift airfield in Turkey, then return to Spain for more aircraft. Spain had large plans in Turkey, with the defeat of Communism here, the possibilities of Fascism were endless.

OOC: Kro, where is your fleet at, exactly? Give an idea as in a city. I am not sure where Adana is.

Since Phil. is doing the main offencive he should make that post. Also, I am sure either he or I would launch artillery before you could see us, 'cause even back then they had scouts, plus I had fighters/bombers fly over a while ago, they could have seen your movements.

Istanball

The submarine listened as the periscoper noticed that a shadow went across the prime of the hull. Lifeboats came from the rear and sides, not front. "Sir, I think they might have outside boats kicking up the crew." Reported the man watching. "Just shoot if the ship itself moves."

IC:

Spanish Forces landed in Iskanderun several hours later, at approximatly 2:30 in the morning, quickly unloading and preparing to depart. The city was given supplies, an HQ was set up, and several key areas were fortified. All Spanish Supplies would come through this city.

As soon as day break came, the entire army was mobilized and moved north, towards the city of Malatya, a defensive formation was obtained, the army always warry of airstrikes and ambushes, AA Guns were constantly ready for deployment. The current Air Base was stationed in Iskanderun, but would be moved to Elazig (North of Malayta) when the city was secured.

OOC: Hmm, you shouldn't be here yet. I'd say the most amount of time that has past so far is about....1-4 hours, waiting on Phil. to reply to the first attack. So yeah...your fleet should still be (if anything) around Sicily, and that is assuming that our declairment was made before the actual attack, and in essence, I'd say your fleet hasn't even left port yet unless time has accelerated and Turkey lost a lot of land in the Soviet-Oseat Join movement.

I'd say no more IC posts until Phil. does something.

OOC: Well they left 10 RL Days ago... that would be 10 months if im not mistaken... I doubt it takes 10 months to travel from one side of the Med. to the other. If we want to go by Battle-Time, then assume those troops get there around 2008. (RL)

OOC: Yes but in the battlefield, it has not gone mroe than those hours. We are going by posts. If we went by actual timeline, then this wouldn't be a blitzkrieg, more or less a slow campain where right now Soviets and Turkish Armed Forces are prepairing artillary....for two months time. Makes no sense. We must go at our pre-designated RP time, not 1946 (things change in independant threads).
