OOC

This is for the players in my Future Battlefield game only. It is an infantry-level battle game with me as dice-rolling moderator. If you think it sounds interesting, please read my Future Battlefield (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=441324) thread, and if interested, sign up there. No one but the contestants(Ybronneb and Uldarious) and other FB members may post in this thread, but if you want to read how this plays out, you may tag it.

For you FB people, this is where it plays out. You telegram or MSN me with the orders you give your squad, and I post here how it works out. Through telegram you've been informed where your dropzone is, and what your objectives are. Take it from here - You are welcome to RP a briefing or whatever, but make sure you keep it short and in this thread, and I will post the rest. If all your radio operators are taken out of action in one way or another, you loose control of your squad; UNLESS your military doctrine includes that a squad must take a set action if they lose control with HQ, such as retreating off the battlefield. The better your C.O. or commanding soldier is in Discipline, the better cohesion your squad will have.

I will keep a log of dice roll results, so that you can ask me why or how a certain incident or firearm shot happened. Deal?

IC: South America, 2015 A.D.

South America, once a star of the African continent, has been largely destroyed by warring nations wishing mineral resources and population from the area. Currently Hogsweat, Piglatnia, Yallak, Ybronneb, Uldarious are -among- the nations who have military assets in the area. Small bands of disciplined special forces roam the area in search of vital strategic objectives. Two such have met in the village of Spencerville:

Reconnoisance photo of Spencerville
(please C&P URL to see it)

Preliminary intel suggest that the objective area, a highway traffic and refueling hub, has been hit bad by artillery - Damaged military vehicles and numerous bodies suggest that the area has been fought over. Civilians and indigenous fighters may remain in the area, and are to be avoided or protected as the situation warrants.

Your respective insertion zones and mission objectives will be telegrammed at approx. 15:00 CET(that is, when the briefing officer gets home from school ;) ).

((Kick ass! The game has started, gentlemen - write up a battle plan and mail me initial orders - also, let us try to keep this thread OOC-free. You have my MSN, and you can also TG me with any OOC grievances or questions.))

Spencerville, South Africa

Only the dead have seen the end of war.
- Plato

Once a pretty insignificant smattering of gas tanks and military barracks set around a connection of highways, Spencerville is now one of the major strategic traffic hubs in WWIII South Africa. The ways are littered with thrashed cars and trucks, and massive artillery craters scar the rooftops and concrete roads. Dead men are slumped on the ground and against pintle mounts of machine guns they will never use again.

Nightfall is an hour away. A light rain falls from a steel-gray sky, and an uneasy silence reigns in the area, only broken by the far-away sound of transport helicopters from the northwest and southeast...

Somewhere on the outskirts of Spencerville

As the roar of the tactical transport helicopter slowly faded away, the Wraith Force quickly dispersed and sought cover in nearby jungle, awaiting nightfall..

Sometime shortly before deployment, on route to landing zone.

Executive Captain Million Kaireass of the 22nd Hydra Infantry Unit sat with his squad in the back of the large infantry deployment helicopter. There was an air of anticipation as the men finished inspecting their weapons.
"Damn it" swore Kerakev Sumon as finished reading the orders "what does 'probable encounter with hostile elements of Ybronneb forces after deployment' mean?"
Keoth Majji smiled, brushed back his dark brown hair and spoke "it means what it says, simply put it means that the enemy is not confirmed to be in this area but is likely to be and we're to expect trouble, it's really quite simple they want this area as it is of straegic importance, we want it as well so we fight it out, last man standing gets the land".
"I wouldn't worry, they might be good but so are we, although personally I think taking towns is more grunt work" put in Blaest Niju as he adjusted his dark glasses and loaded his rifle.
Kaireass listened as the helicopter began to touch down and then he spoke out "Alright we have our orders so for now all I can say is this, keep calm and stay sharp, Hydras deploy".

En Route to Spencerville

Almost shouting to be heard above the loud whumping of the transport, Commander Deborah Garthix gave her troops their orders, ending her briefing with a warning. "Also, be warned...Intelligence reports possible enemy forces also interested in the area. Expect resistance. Deal with it, quick and quiet. We are Wraiths. Like our namesake, we are silent, determined, and, most of all, deadly. We will accomplish our mission, as always."

As the chopper came to a hover above the drop point, she gave one final order: "Fall out, Wraiths." With that, the Wraiths began their mission.

The 22nd Hydras defillated towards the wall surrounding Spencerville, intent on accomplishing the first part of the mission. Shooters Majji and Hax notice that a BMP-3 armoured personnel carrier, probably long defunct, is standing on the road leading into central Spencerville.

After an initial march, it becomes evident that it is only possible to enter the walls of Spencerville in this point by going through or under the tollbooth blockades; or entering via a large breach in the wall further to the north, likely made by an artillery shell.

((Post me orders, both of you. I assume the Wraith Force is still stationary?

Somewhere outside of Spencerville

After a somewhat extensive trek, the Hydras locate a wall-breach. Evidently, a huge caliber artillery shell or rocket barrage has hit the concrete wall, tearing a wide space through it. Ahead, a large two-story building(approximately 20 metres long, 6 meters wide), with a munition-scarred roof, is visible. It appears deserted, but both the wall breach and the buildings perimeter are littered with the corpses of black-skinned soldiers; indicating that this has indeed been a contested area. In the far distance, a wrecked parking lot and the central road hub is visible.

Somewhere else outside of Spencerville

The wraith force keep hidden and silent, earning their keep. A quick, tense look at watches indicate that nightfall is thirty five minutes away.

((Uldarious, orders.))

22nd Hydra position

The hydras engage in their latest orders, infiltrating and scouting out their immediate area as per standard Uldarian tactical doctrine and awaiting nightfall.

Wraith Force position

Waiting and hiding, the Wraiths sit out til nightfall as well.

((I'm being deliberately vague here so you don't know one anothers locations. Now we fast-forward to nightfall, so I need your engagement orders - Ybronneb, I can just go with the doctrine you gave me if you like; or you can send me more extensive orders. Uldarious, your force is in the position you ordered, I'll need new orders.))

((So, you've both decided on rather weird motion paths following nightfall, so I am going to narrate a long stretch of time now, until conflict ensues.))

Spencerville

Nightfall, quietly came in and changed us all,
Nightfall, quietly came in and changed us all;
Nightfall, immortal land lies down in agony.

Now it is nighttime, and only the wet patter of light rain and the tense breath and combat boot footfalls of deployed soldiers give sound to the area.

[21:02-21:15]

Ybronneb Position:

Troopers Garthix, Pelidro, Pryce, Harpon and Creval reach their destination. The perimeter is in front of a large and very wide open space, but is made of reinforced concrete walls and has only small windows; and seems like a reasonable safe HQ.

Therison, Zerifio and Bladsky meet up with the escort detail and advance according to plan.

Troopers service number seven through thirteen keep their heads down and get with the program, running quietly along the artillery-scarred asphalt.

Shooter Blakert and Smith advances according to their operational objective.

Fredricks, De'Gredley and Plegrin keep their head down like good goons.

Uldarious Position:

Anati Loum, Tajou Gummon and Alvarion Koyi grudgingly accept their duty and look ahead for the main force. As they reach the main roundabout, they spot two shadowy figures in the distance, who appear to be gesturing a larger group of people ahead.

((New orders - you can assume your forward groups saw each other at approximately the same time.))

Central Spencerville

It would appear that the Uldarioan forces aren't out for negotiation as they quickly advance into the roundabout, waiting for a chance to shoot.

The, now visible, seven-man Wraith force collapse near a ruined tower in the middle of the two roads, meeting the advancing Hydras with a swarm of 5.56 rounds.

Trying to get a bead, Loum crouches, but is struck squarely above the collar bone by a bullet that removes the base of the throat with a crunching sound. The unfortunate trooper takes a half-step back, drops a Kelo mk. 3 rifle that won't be used again; and collapses in a spreading pool of blood. Taking cover, Ekai Gummon is grazed in the chest and knocked down.

Alvarion Koyi, now severely worried, grits his teeth and gets a bead on Loums assasin. Mourahd Bencheik, now concerned with taking out the remaining Hydra, crawls forward and is struck in the chest from above. Rolling over, Bencheik starts moaning and cries "I'm hit! I can't breathe! I can't breathe" in a low, hoarse voice.

Wraith force positions

Elsewhere, Wraiths De'Gredley, Fredricks and Plegrin sneak into their objective. Visibility is decidedly too poor to see the break, but there appears to be movement closer to them, around the northern centre of the city, men and women moving southwards

Troopers 2,3,4,5,6,14 can now hear the commotion, as well as spot the fire exchange in the roundabout, far away.

William Blakert is now firmly entrenched in the gas tank lot, but the only confirmed enemy hostiles are too far away to hit with his sights at night.

Entering the building, Smith finds a host of dead South African soldiers, as well as a variety of supplies - He is currently in the southeastern end of the first story of the building, attempting to gain entry to the second floor.

Uldarian position

The Hydras advance in defense of their forward troop. Queloup Natra scales around the area in reconnoisance and suddenly notices a group of at least four men and woman holding assault rifles standing behind the corner the large two-story building by the road barricade to the southeast of him.

((That's it, folks! Keep the orders coming. I realize now that my drawing is piss-poor, and the information about buildings are insufficient, so please do ask me the exact position of buidlings if you are unsure.))

((Allright, sorry it took so long, been busy with school. Since Jolt had a hemmorhage, I can only post with the user "Tiastan", but keep sending orders by telegram to Neo-Anarchos, allright?))

Roundabout

Wraiths 7 to 13 continue fire, although 7, 8, and 9 cease fire, citing a sudden overheating of their FNC assault rifles. Wade Yamazaki draws a bead and hits the now retreating Uldarian scout; but apparently only manages to wound his arm superficially; and Koyi withdraws with undiminished speed. Gummon, unnoticed by the Wraith Force, crawls after Alvarion Koyi, gingerly grasping his injured torso. As the Wraiths close in, however, they notice a large number of armed, shadowy figures advancing at a crouch, taking up defensive positions around the two retreating Hydra scouts.

By the two-story building, eastern Spencerville

Alerted by the 7-13 group via headset, Shooters Therison and Bladsky level their rifle grenade launchers to the skies and drop two towards the entrenched Hydra regiment. Both fall wide of their mark, but one grenade lands very close to the advancing Kaough Venoc; peppering him with gravel. Unnerved, he flings himself to the ground, unwilling to move any longer.
Soon, though, it becomes apparent that a detachment of Hydras are moving at running pace towards Bladsky, Therison and their cohort, and a heated exchange of fire ensues. Wraiths 2,3,4,5,6 and 14 are now pinned behind the corner of the building and the adjacent cover, firing their submachineguns and rifles at Hydras Cipse, Aziel, Hax, and Wuitean(Venoc remains behind for the time being, cowering in shock from the earlier grenade touchdown). No shots find their mark, however.

Meanwhile, Queloup Natra has left the area, circling around for enemy stragglers or snipers. He finds just that, as he spots the rogue William Blakert aiming a scoped rifle at him! The two men aim and fire at one another. Blakert, concealed behind cover and using a scope for aiming, comes out with advantage; as Natras shot falls wide, and a .303 round from Blakerts Lee-Enfield carbine hits him in the stomach. He falls down screaming, alerting the other Hydras.
