The Greatest Ocean (FT intro)

Admiral Rho walked down the hallway of the Naval Academy. The tube of water filled with luminescent bacteria running down the ceiling filled the hallway with shimmering light. The hallway soon ended, Rho turned to a doorway on the left and entered a code. The door opened and he stepped through into a tunnel connecting the Academy to the military port. The transparent tunnel provided full view of the ocean floor around the base. East of him, he could see the Rhoaltar Trench a deep chasm alive with the shipyards that build one in three of every ship in the navy. To the north was the city that made it all possible, named for the trench. The view made the walk from the Academy to the Port go by quickly.

The Port consisted of several large domes and dozens of docks. Rho made his way to the largest dome. Inside was the pride of the fleet, the prototype Horizon-class Carrier, Blue Horizon. The sleek and streamlined leviathan was busy loading supplies and ammunition. The sea fighter bays were being loaded with barracuda fighters. The aero fighter bay on the top of the ship was open and loaded with fighters as well as the top-secret payload being prepped and secured for transport. Rho left the observation deck and entering an airlock boarded his ship.

The dry dock was cleared and the airlocks retracted. Both the sea fighter bays, the aero fighter bay, and the all the torpedo tubes were closed and sealed. Warning lights flashed and sirens rang as the dome was pumped with water and began opening. When it was fully open the Blue Horizon’s engines engaged and it slowly pulled into the depths.

About three hours later the Blue Horizon was nearing their destination and the surface. The helmsman reported to the Admiral, “Sir, we have reached emergence depth.”

Rho turned to the helmsman. “Very good Ensign. Let’s fly.” He activated the internal comm. “Attention all hands, stow all loose items and prepare for breakout.”

The Blue Horizon angled toward the surface and the ballasts were blown. The ship launched up breaking through the surface. Losing most of its momentum breaking through the surface, the engines were pushed to full and the Blue Horizon lifted out of the water. They leveled off and began the climb to escape velocity.

-------------------------------------------------

The Blue Horizon sat docked at the Aquilan Federation Orbital Research Station. Admiral Rho entered the AFORS command deck, his entourage following closely behind. On the deck, the crew went about their business. Rho noticed his counterpart from Watatuneetsu, Admiral Rendack. Watatuneetsu is Tidan’s planetary neighbor and partner in the Aquilan Federation. Rho greeted the Admiral and climbed to the command platform over the deck.

”Good day everyone. I know you’ve been waiting, and I thank you for your patience. So without further delay, lets get the test underway.” With that he directed attention to the scientists milling over consoles and view screens.

Outside the station, the Blue Horizon’s fighter bay for atmospheric and spacecraft opened. Piloted by remote the experimental probe exited the bay and cleared the carrier. A countdown began on the command deck as control of the probe was transferred to its onboard computer.

...3…2…1…0

The probe powered up and a flash of light grew on its nose then jumped to the tail. With that the probe was gone.

The observer’s let out their collectively held breaths. By all appearances the experiment had worked, but they wouldn’t know for sure until the probe reappeared. Only then would they know if the probe had survived the jump to the edge of the system and whether it would make it back.

After a half hour of waiting the probe reappeared in view outside the station. As the recovery craft launched to capture the probe cheers erupted on the command deck.

Tidan and Watatuneetsu had awoken to the galaxy. Suddenly the Great Ocean of Aquila seemed to be only a small pond.

Another probe guided itself through space; hearing the signals of the probe that, for one race, uncovered the veils of the stars. This probe, flailing tendrils and pulsating alien flesh; surged forth towards the source of the metallic intruder into the void; its link to the Hive Mind still strong, even across such vast distances. A world of endless ocean loomed nearby; bringing forth memories from the depths of the collective conciousness; of water and death and metal and flesh. So long ago, so far away; yet not, as it plunged towards the atmosphere; to taste those ocean depths, it let fly with its psychic scream, surging forth to feel the cerulean caress of limitless depths.

A mutual discovery had occured; and a seed had reached a fertile soil. In a single instance, two destinies were intertwined; and a world would be changed in time. Those with psychic gift below, would feel a scratching alien scream against their sanity; and a passing, as of some great shadow, across their conciousness...

After the successful test of first FTL drive, Tidani scientists and engineers began jerry-rigging a science frigate with a drive. Then serious study of the drive and its effects on the ship and crew can begin.

Meanwhile in an unexciting corner of Tidani waters:

Oceanographic and Geographic Agency is alerted to a disturbance by Monitoring Station 247. An observer contacted the administrator, "Sir, station 247 is detecting an anomoly. First indication appears to be consistant with a meteor, but readings are vague."

"Very good, dispatch a vessel to investigate." The administrator acknowledged and terminated communications.

A small science ship, bristling with sensors and listening devices, is dispatchced to investigate the anomalous readings.

OOC: Tidan is not a psychic nation. Neither is Watatuneetsu as far as I know, my friend's nation who I share the planet Aquila with. However, I'm sure we can have some fun despite that.

It plunged into the depths; embracing darkness, as many eyes stared out into gulf; slamming against the bottom, anchoring itself; as spores puffed in all directions. Tendrils slid forth, anchoring it; mouths curling about coral and kelp; tiny Rippers slipping from the main mass; swimming like so many piranha mouthed fish to feed and bring biomass.

From amongst the alien thronging and seeping of spores; a new, hidden eco-system would emerge; a power growing in the hidden eddies and valleys of the ocean floor; readying; growing; awaiting completeness...

*Aboard the F.T.S.C. Gralmond, 20:04 FST (Flightopian Standard Time)

They were just on a routine mapping mission when the bridge started to bustle with excitement. “Sir,” the young sensors operator exclaimed, “ Slip-space rupture, 2,000 A.U.s out!” The commander of Gralmond, Richard Strums, A seasoned leader with a few battles under his belt, replied, “Ok, what is the size of the craft and where did it come from?”
“Um, about the size of sensor probe to small to be a fighter, can’t have a long range either can’t hold a FTL drive big enough I would guess. As far as where it came from the R.I. says it jumped from the other side of the system.”
Then a few moments later the probe jumped again. “Did the probe got back to it’s jump origin,” the commander barked.
“Yes sir.”
“Ok, ensign, plot a jump to the origin of the probe,” ordered Strums. After five minutes the air in the bridge became still as the commander spoke, “Jump in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, jump!”

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Sir we’re through,” reported the XO.

“Active scans, full hysradar,” Strums commanded, “ I want to know where that thing is.” After a few minutes the sensors reported a high EM return orbiting a plant less then 1 A.U. away. “Sir it appears to be a space station,” reported the sensors operator, “With a large ship docked with it.”

“Get me a comms link, all spectrums, all frequencies,” the boss ordered, then he began to transmit, “This is Richard Strums, commander of Flightopian heavy cruiser Gralmond , we came following a probe the jumped in on us durring a mapping mission, please respond over.”

Listening Craft 72 approached the area in question. Almost immediately the sensors and recorders went crazy. The payload operator turned to the pilot. "Get closer, this is incredible."

Back at the Oceanographic and Geographic Agency observers picked up a message from the science ship sent to investigate.

This is Listening Craft 72 to OGA HQ. Arrived at the designated area. The sonar is picking up numerous contacts, nothing is familiar or matching with the database. We're looking at something completely new. Going in for a closer look. Broadcasting readings. End Transmission.

A streaming transmission of the readings collected by the ship followed.

The thing unfolded like some obscene yet beautiful flower; its tendrils flailing against the ground, dirt clouding the water around it; as the rippers danced amongst luminescent fronds; spores churning in the water; strange growths springing from its touch across the sea bed.

The things turned, surging towards the ship as a blast of bio plasma sent searing waves of boiling water about it; the rippers spitting smaller blasts of plasma as they advanced; razor teeth and small scything arms plunging against this invader in the new realm....

The hive would not be violated.

The pilot let out a chain of prophanities in the Tidani tongue. "Pulling out!" he yelled back to the listener, then continued his cursing.

The listener watching all the readouts with horror made sure all the data was still being sent to HQ. He then sent a short message as the small craft was slammed by the plasma projectiles. Then yelling out to the pilot he punched a large red button. "Activating electrical defencive countermeasure. Listening systems disabled. GET US OUT OF HERE!" As he spoke all non-essential systems power was diverted to probes along the hull. 50,000 volts surged through the surrounding water, and the pilot did his best to escape.

At the OGA

The observer watched the data in shock. She received a short deperate message then the feed was cut.

Contact hostile. EDC. Attempting escape. Danger: High.

She activated the communications grid. "Get me the Naval Command."

-----------------------------

Aboard AFORS the comm officer sounded the alarm. Admiral Rho walked over to the station. "Report."

"Sensor contact. A ship just appeared inside the system. The appear to be hailing us."

"Looks like we drew some attention with our little experiment." Rho didn't seem phased at all that proof they were not alone in the universe had just appeared out of no where. "Send it to analysis to attempt a translation. In the mean time send this message."

To unknown craft, welcome to Aquila. We welcome you with caution and hope, in the name of Tidan and Watatuneetsu. We have received your message, but are unable to decipher your language as yet.
Admiral Rho of the Tidani Navy

OOC: the Tidani language is basically something like that of whales and dolphins. It originated under water but has adapted for efficiency in the air. They are capable of a wide range of vocalizations but have no experience with extra-aquilan languages.

HFNergal, do you intend to try to colonize? Also is your race Zerg? or something else? I'd like to know more about them if we have to fight them.

“Sir, the R.I. has translated the return message, apparently it is similar to dolphins and whales,” Reported the comms officer.
The commander had only one simple order, “ Retransmit our fist message in their language and along what that send the following, Admiral Rho the Flightopian Space Corps offers its most peaceful and pleasant greetings, if you wish I can send the coordinates of the nearest Flightopain controlled system, there you can meet with a formal representative of our government. It is called the Somtaaw System, only one planet is habitable there, on the planet we have a population of about 700,000,000. Also around it is a massive orbiting shipyard. I tell you this so if we become allies we may be able to exchange technology. I wonder what is the current range of your FTL dives? Also, my we approach to within a few kilometers of your station?”
“That will be all sir?”
“Yes son, send it.”

Rho listened to the message again. 'Fast learners arn't they.' he thought and recorded a reply.

Greetings Richard Strums, commander of Flightopian heavy cruiser Gralmond. On behalf of Aquilan Federation and with the authority of the Tidani Republic, we welcome you to our home. We invite you to approach our research station and to come aboard if you wish. We just had our first successful FTL test. We are hurrying to attempt a manned test with a medium class of spaceship in the next month. Our Starships are not as advanced as yours seem. We have had little need for interplanetary warships, except for fighting off pirates and rebels between moon colonies. There is much we could learn from you. We would be very interested in establishing relations with our new galactic neighbors.

I think we may just take you up on your offer, if you could send us docking instructions that would be very nice. Our hysradar scans show that your planet is mostly water; I think space tech for sea tech seems like an interesting trade. Also, you may be wondering how we deciphered you language so quickly. In orbit of the planet, a burst of energy occured, as brute force ripped apart the very fabric of Space to allow the Tsurani Ship through. The TGW class ship moved through space, its entire Three hundred Meter Length hull gleaming.

Belive it or not, this was one of the largest ships in the Tsurani Navy. It zoomed through spacce, looking down on the planet below. And as it did, the crew also studied it. The Fenris, weak boned Canine Humaniods had their hand dance across the pannel before them, their heads averted from the Green robed figure that was a Slir.

"Commander, Explain to The Crew why we have come to this location" A woman said in a tone like ice.

"Yes My High Lady." Commander Juliag replied. "We have reason to belive, by word of the Emperor, that there is a civilisation now of age. We are willing to assit them."

"Aye, and if their will is at fault, then we shall clense their world with no more thought." The woman finished. "Carry on."

Quickly the crewman created varying degrees of communication, all sending out the same message.

Welcome Breathern Of the stars.

If you have a type of shuttlecraft onboard, we will send you coordinates of our main shuttlebay. If this method of transport is impossible or undesirable, we are also sending the coordinates and schematics of one of our docking ports. I doubt our docking methods are compatible, however, we have existing limited options for establishing a seal with incompatible or obsolete versions of our own craft. I'm confident we will be able to work out a solution.
Our people would be eager to learn more about travelling the stars, we will most certainly discuss trade oportunites when we meet.
Your Artificial Intelligence intrigues us. Our own ships use very limited AI to increase efficency and reaction time, but our present knowledge in this area is rather basic. Perhaps you could bring an interface with you to expedite communications, and possibly allow us to study your methods. Station docking information to follow.

A darkness spread over the ocean floor. The ocean is alive though, it adapts, it defends. An angry sea is a terrorizing force.

Much had been consumed, but the balance of the ocean would not merely give up. Its weapons were many and masters of their domain. From the shadows muscle and teeth lay hidden in the sand. The ultimate predator of the deep has found a new prey. As one of the alien creatures moved overhead, a burst of electricity burst around it. Paralysed the alien was helpless, in a blur of mud and water the supercharged muscles snapped into action. Darting out of its hiding place the ultimate predator grabbed the creature and disappeared back into the shadows. The stunfish is a simple name for a menacing predator. The speed and power of a shark, blessed with the ability to generate enough current around its body to paralyse most prey. The Tidani still fear running into the stunfish in the wild depths, even though their skin is extra resistive many have disappeared in the dark. Nature, though often thought tamed, still holds cards capable of felling the most powerful civilizations.

Meanwhile Listening Craft 72 barely made it back to port. Covering the hull was strange biological residue. This film was hurried to a lab. What ever it was, they already knew it was not of this world.

Admiral Rho had been in contact with the Tidani Council all morning. Now he sat with several scientists across the table from the Flightopian delegation. With him sat Admiral Rendack and scientists from Tidan's sister nation, Watatuneetsu.

The connection to the Sentient Intelligence was established and the meeting began.

Rho greeted the delegates, "Before we the specifics of trade and technology, we have a bit of a favor to ask of you. We have a situation underwater. Rho let what Strums had said sink in. "Fortunately, we are taking action already to exterminate the threat. I will pass along to the Council the importance of removing the invader. Thank you for your help. Now perhaps we can discuss future cooperation." Rho looked through his notes. "We are willing to share our marine construction techniques like high-pressure hulls, thermal power, marine fighter craft, and marine engineering. You might be interested in our bio technology. Our bio-engineers have made great strides in designing bacteria to fill a variety of needs including illumination, oxygen manufacturing, weapon enhancements, heating, and we are also working on a terraforming bacterium. Our space technology is rather basic, and we would exchange some of our knowledge for advancements in our spacecraft systems, weapons, construction, and artificial intelligence."

Rho finished his list, then added, "Also we are preparing to test a larger and more powerful version of our prototype jump drive within the next week, but we need a destination. Perhaps your Somtaaw system would be a fitting choice?"

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Deep below the surface the Righteous Tide, the huge and powerful heavy cruiser, arrived at the location of insidious presence in the ocean. Ordered to find a way to stop the invader, the captain and two officers entered authorization codes then he launched one of the ship's complement of hydrogen torpedoes. The torpedo left the ship and lanced toward the being, seemingly desperate to unload its devastating payload.

UPDATE: Striking the sea floor near the creature it detonated. The water in around the spot vaporized a erupted. The shockwave spread striking the Righteous Tide. The ship shook violantly, but once the shockwave passed they scanned the crater for any sign of the creature. They found none.

Strums mulled things over a moment, "Ok once your larger ships are able to jump to the Somtaaw system, dock at the orbital shipyard there. There we can refit the ship(s) with weapons, power sources, RI, and sensors. The weapons we have on each of our ships are 200-terajoule particle laces and ion cannons. As well as rail-guns (Power of Halo 2 MAC gun but smaller). As well as 2-gigaton nukes, and 500-megaton gimbaled nuke launchers. As far as power we have 15 nilling d-sinks on our ships. A d-sink is a zero-space sinkhole in space-time only factor that limits storage capacity is the power of the quantum filed. Our new MARK IIs use the energy given off by the quantum field to replenish the power. In short 15 d-sinks can provide infinite power, when more power is needed the quantum field just replaces more at a faster rate. Also sensor packages that can scan 5,000 AUs, it is called hysradar. We can also provide you specs for our SSFs (Space Superiority Fighters). Finally the RI. We would be happy to trade this for your marine tech."

"But," he added, "If you want for about 50 Billion of our currency, we can provide our FTL drives to you now. 1,025 LY a second, infinate range."

The crew, made up entirely of engineers and scientists, nicknamed their ship Blind Leap. For several days the crew ran through tests of the ships systems to ensure that everything was working perfectly. Finally, after everything checked out the crew made final preperations for the jump. The 6 craft departed Tanis, the skeleton crews manning only bridge and engineering sections. They prepared to leave the system for home, but first sent a message to their hosts.

Thank you for your hospitality and generosity. Should you wish, we would like to send a diplomatic delegation to your nation, to strengthen ties between us. We invite you to do the same. We will wait for your response before departing.

The Tidani ships sent acknowledgements. Then powering up their drives, disappeared into the stars.

Aboard the Aquilan Federation Orbital Research Station, Admiral Rho waited on the command deck. An officer at one of the communication stations turned around to the commander. "Sirs, Blind Leap should be entering the system within the hour acording to the hyperspace message they sent us."

The station commander nodded. "Keep an eye out for them."

Before long 6 contacts appeared out of in space. "Sirs, I have them on deepspace radar. It looks like they've brought some friends... Message coming in."

This is Blind Leap. We've been outfitted with Flightopian technology, and bring with us a gift from Flightopia. 5 Flightopian cruiser hulls, equipped with their advanced hyperdrive. We are coming in for debreifing. Blind Leap out

For alomst a year after the exchange of technology and embassies with Flightopia, the Tidani scientists and engineers studied and mastered the new tech. With their new knowledged they designed new ships and weapons to suit them. These designs were tested, changed, and refined then tested some more.

Two of the five gift cruisers were given to Watatuneetsu, the remaining three were put to use. Their drives were removed and the three ships were placed in geosynchronous orbit over Tidan. Since then the Tidan have been converting the cruisers into shipyards. Now the construction is complete. The resources needed to begin the shipbuilding have been collected. Now work on the first Tidani Fleet can begin. With all three shipyards working, the whole fleet should be finished in 5 years. Hopefully by that time more shipyards will be constructed to expedite the process in the future. In all 10 fleets are planned.

This is the U.E.O. vessel Eddas. I have come in peace. We monitored the burst of FTL energy from this system and came to investigate.

The Asgard aboard the Eddas reviewed the response and sent another message.

First thing, I would like to introduce myself. I am Thor, Supreme Commander of the Asgard fleet. Secondly, I would like to introduce you to the FTL arena. Be warned, not all those out here are as friendly as the Asgard, the U.E.O., or the Holy Empire of SeaQuest, the founder of the U.E.O.. Now, as to why I am here, simply put, the answer is to explore trade opportunities. Please note, I have arrived here in a science ship not equipped to wage prolounged combat.

The observer watched the data in shock. She received a short deperate message then the feed was cut.

Contact hostile. EDC. Attempting escape. Danger: High.

She activated the communications grid. "Get me the Naval Command."

To have so many there, even professional representatives of the people, was not a risk the Council wanted to take at this point. Thor blinks his large black eyes and says, "As your are more massive than I am, I will have to forgoe my usual handshake.

Actually, the question you should be asking is what we can do for you. As I said, this would be a nice planet for some members of the Empire to vaction on.

We would be willing to provide a defensive satellite system and build a Jump Gate in this system for the mere privilage of using this planet as a vacation spot.

Some of the races and cultures that you may encounter out there are not very nice. The Holy Empire Of SeaQuest, however, has adopted the Asgard method of protecting younger FTL capable planets and allowing them to develop on their own. No Imperial taxes or tariffs will be forced upon you. No Imperial forces will be stationed here against your will. The Empire will support you until you are able to stand on your own in the interstellar community.

I know a few of my fellows in the scientific community that would get a kick out of helping you to perfect your method of FTL for no reason than they like to gain knowledge.

Also, as you are an aquatic race, you probably know more about sea-going craft than any in the Empire.

Is any of this acceptable to you?"
Tidan

The Council was taken aback, Chancellor Ryak bowed deeply before the asguard. "You are a very generous people. We would gladly offer our friendship and open our cities both marine and terrestrial to citizens of your empire. If there are such threats in this galaxy as you say, how blessed are we to have come across such benevolence. We by no means have perfected sea tech, I'm sure there is much your people could teach us. Perhaps our people could work together to create the next generation of seacraft?."

Also, my ship received a transmission right after I dropped to sublight. The Holy Empire of SeaQuest has joined in an alliance with other like minded groups with FTL tech to provide mutal protection for each other. Perhaps you would like to join this group."

It also allows a pooling of resources, material, knowledge, and personnel for non-military purposes. Both you and your Flightopian friends are welcome to join. An alliance allows for more to be done than a simple mutal protection pact ever could. The pact allows each signer to send ships to aid the other. An alliance allows much more. An alliance allows you access to the pooled knowledge of the other alliance members, for example."

"It sounds much like the Aquilan Federation, the union we have with our brothers and neighbors, Watatuneetsu, that jointly governs Aquila. Your Federation sounds nice, but such a step is not something we could take right away. We must discuss such possibilities amongst our people first. If we should decide to join, we will let you know. Now if there are no more matters to discuss, perhaps you would like a tour of our city before we part company?"

"Thank you, perhaps we could exchange embassies to represent our governments on each others homeworld? And of course you are welcome to stay as our guest on Aquila until you need to leave, in Tidan or Watatuneetsu. Our brother nation, how can I put it, prefers to live and operate more in the shadow of our diplomatic leadership. Dispite their secretive nature, we have never had any reason to question their motives or our trust placed in them. Otherwise, our Federation would have fallen centuries ago. You can consider me to speak for both our nations when I offer our friendship and cooperation."

OOC: you dont need to worry about Watatuneetsu until he shows up in the story himself. I am just trying to develop my back story some more. I thought it would be a cool idea to have two sentient and related species develop on the same planet. So you can think of the Watani as the genetic cousins of the Tidani. As for their diplomatic and cultural standings, think of Tidan as the Star Trek Federation's Vulcans (very diplomatic and open) and Watatuneetsu as the Romulans (very secretive and stealthy).

Rel Denek walked into the Infectious Disease Containment Center, as he did most every day. He had two jobs there, the first was his official job studying and finding cures for dangerous diseases. The second was to find useful biological agents that the rebels could use against the Aquilan Federation in their struggle for power. Today it looked that he might succeed.

He put on the containment suit and entered the high risk room. "Good morning, Koss. Today I need to take a look at the alien parasite."

"Good morning sir." Koss took the samples out of cold storage. "Here you go sir. The sample proves very interesting. It is definitely not of this world. It shows incredible adaptability, and is able to convert incredible amounts of living mass into its parasitic form."

Denek stood behind Koss while he removed the sample and handed it to Denek. "Thank you Koss. I'm sorry..."

"Sorry sir? Sorry for what?" Denek took the sample, then grabbed Koss by the head. He slamed his head down on to the desk, knocking Koss out cold.

"For that." Denek placed the sample in an isolation container, and calmly exited the building.

After leaving he took his personal craft heading deep into the ocean wilderness.

Day of Hive Mind probe Infiltration: 1540 Zulu, 4th Trisar Squadron on route to investigate disterbance picked up by Monitoring Station 247. - Mission: Investigate unknown disturbance and support allied Tidani dispatched Listening Craft.

"Sir, I'm picking up a transmission being sent by the Tidani Listening Craft to OGA Head Quarters, 'This is Listening Craft 72 to OGA HQ. Arrived at the designated area. The sonar is picking up numerous contacts, nothing is familiar or matching with the database. We're looking at something completely new. Going in for a closer look. Broadcasting readings. End Transmission.' It doesn't look like they're going to wait for us sir."

"What's our ETA?"
"ETA in 3 minutes Sir."
"Push the engines harder, we need to get there now!"

"Sir, I'm picking up another transmission, 'Contact hostile. EDC. Attempting escape. Danger: High.' and I'm now reading a large electrical disturbance upahead, its configuration matches the EDC!"
"Ready weapons, and prepare to drop cloak!"

The squadron approached the scene at high speed, and took up a defensive position between the listening craft and the unknown infiltrator.
"Sir, there are no signs of pursuit. Whatever that is, it must not have liked getting zapped!"
"Good, remain cloaked. Let's not let it know we're here if we don't have to... TF-1 to TF-2, escort the listening craft back to safety, we're staying here to moniter the intruder."
"Accknowledged TF-1, taking up an escort position. Have fun!"
"I'm sure we will, TF-1 out."

"Sir, I'm picking up an incoming ship, designator codes recognize it as the 'Righteous Tide', a Tidani heavy cruiser, they're trying to contact us using an open hailing frequency."
"Establish a secure channel and open a comm link!"
"comm link established"
"This Major Telan, lead fighter, 4th Trisar Squadron we're receiving you."
"This is Captain Brek of the Righteous Tide, we've been ordered in to deal with the threat possed by this invader. We're going to be launching a hydrogen torpedo, you should get your ships to a safe distance."
"Acknowledged, thank's for the warning, we're moving to a safe location now."

The torpedo left the ship and lanced toward the being, seemingly desperate to unload its devastating payload. Striking the sea floor near the creature it detonated. The water in around the spot vaporized a erupted. The shockwave spread striking the Righteous Tide. The ship shook violantly, but once the shockwave passed they scanned the crater utilizing aditional information Major Telan had gathered from shadowing the parasite. No trace of anything was found. Just a silent cascading downpour of sand falling in a great shower, like a rainstorm on the surface.

Present Day: 0820 Zulu, Admiral Rendack stood in the observation centre, on board the Archenteron shipyard, observing the construction of the 1st Certhidea class carrier, equivalent to the Tidani Horizon Class Carrier, the Taeniura was being designed to encorporate new and advanced technologies, such as the newly perfected Tidan/Watatuneetsu FTL drives, more advanced sub-light engines, and the newly developed multilayered ME hulls now being encoperated into already in-service capital ships within the Watatuneetsu fleet. The massive form lay coupled to the station. Cables, electrical lines, and various liquid distribution pipes ran the span of the ship, like vines slowly enveloping it. MPCPs floated this way and that, carrying parts, taxiing fabrication gantries, and finishing up various construction tasks.
"Um... sir," one of the Admiral's aides chimed in, "I'm receiving a comunication from AFORS Command, the've received a mission update from the Lakoid. The've shadowed the ship that's been raiding the shipping routes in sector 0642, and they've successfully tracked it. Its now docked at a small sub-surface outpost in sector 0738."
"Excellent! Radio AFORS Command I'm on my way, it's time to put a stop to these raids!" Looking back at the Taeniura. "It's going to be a fine ship when she's done." the admiral commented.
"Yes sir, a fine ship indeed."

One Year Ago

Captain Faal, had been in training with his commando squad. Suddenly a shadow jumped his mind, and he blacked out completely. This was not the end however, his mind had left one place for another. A world of light and shadow, day and night. He could hear voices, they were familiar but as though coming through the comm. He looked down, he was still in full gear but everything felt... wrong.

What's wrong with him? The voice was familiar, it was his squad mate Kela.

I don't know. I can't find anything physically wrong with him. Doctor Berru, the team's medical officer. To be honest we never did. Like you and the rest of the supersoldier subjects his genetic code altered to improve his strength, agility, reflexes, and will. He and several others were also engineered to expand the amount of their brains that are used. Unfortunately all the other subjects died within 2 years. The experiment was a drastic failure, except for Faal. He still showed great potential as a soldier, but the mental enhancements gave him a tactical edge and made him an excellent leader. We didn't know why he didn't break like the others, so we watched him and put him back into the regular program.

Is he going to be ok?

I really don't know.

Faal was very confused. What was going on. There were so many things to take in. The shadow that was battling his mind made it hard to comprehend the revelation brought by the words of his creator. Well I guess he isn't just my doctor now. The shadow struck at him, he noticed and dodged out of the way. He took a swing as it passed but his hands passed right through. Now it gathered and rushed at him again with full force. Faal couldn't get out of the way and he raised his hands to brace himself. The shock hit his mind, but he was not hit. It was like his thought of defence stopped the thing just in time. Like the battle was between minds and wills.

Mazar Canyons, 5000 km east of Southridge

Denek travelled beyond the municipal waters into the unpatrolled Mazar Canyons, rebel territory. He arrived at a hidden rebel base, and reported to the general.

"Denek, we thought we had heard the last of you. What a pleasant surprise... assuming you've brought something useful." General Ura eyed Denek cautiously.

"I had to go silent lately, they were closing in on me. If I hadn't gotten out when I did, I never would have. I think you'll like what I took."

Denek bent over the desk studying the alien parasite. He was trying to determine how it could be used as a weapon against the Aquilan Federation. His job had always been to find a weapon to use against his former employees.

Hours went buy and nothing seemed to show promise. Out of the corner of his eye Denek noticed that the air contaminant monitor was still reading zero. As he kept working it sunk into his thoughts, there should be some level of contaminants. Even in safe conditions there should be some level contaminants. He turned his full attention to the monitor. Nothing looked wrong. He took a closer look, then gave it a smack. The display flickered. Now it showed extremely dangerous levels and the warning went off. He shrieked and cursed. "What the hell kind of equipment do you have here." He ran to the door, but security sealed it. "What are you doing? Open the door! Open the do..." Denek doubled over suddenly in pain. Something was wrong. "Let... me..." he screamed again and his voice changed. "Let us out! I hear you, there you are. Open the door!"

In the security booth one of the guards paged the commander. But when the commander answered all he heard was screaming as the second guard shot the first and opened the containment door, then raised the gun to his head and pulled the trigger.

Tidani Military Hospital, Southridge, Tidan

Captain Faal had been in a coma for almost a year. His mind was incredibly active, and because he was part of the secret military program they weren't going to cut him off from life support in his current state. The nurse had made her rounds earlier and would not return for some time. In his mind so much was happening. He had been fighting the darkness constantly. For a time it was at full force but seemed distracted, like it's energies were focused on something else. He took advantage of this time to learn how to counter the power of the darkness. He was getting good when suddenly the darkness' power was drastically cut. At first it made things easier for Faal, but very quickly he realized that while its power was less it was fully concentrating on their battle. This was how it had been until today, when the darkness once again raged but not at him. He could tell the power was back but again it was somewhere else. By now Faal had learned too much from their battle and using all his strength of will he forced the darkness from his mind.

Suddenly Faal sat up. He was in a hospital room. He didn't remember much, but he could feel an evil presence far away. That reminded him of something but he couldn't remember what it was. He slowly got up, but was overwealmed by the pain of the people around him. Something had changed in him drastically.

The commander stood at the front of the dark room, around the table sat Faal and the rest of the team. In the middle of the table a three-dimensional image of a sea trench was rotating slowly. "This is the location of a rebel base we have just discovered. In the last few days there has been heavy comm activity and traffic leaving. We think they are abandoning the base. You have to move in and clear it out. Secure anything of value you can find including data, equipment, and personel. This is one of the closest bases we have come across in the last three years. How they managed to stay hidden is a mystery, and it is close enough to coordinate and run rebel operations in all of Tidani Sea. We don't want them to get away clean."

Rebel Base in the Mazar Canyons, 5000 km east of Southridge

When the Tidani Marines arrived at the Canyons the first thing they did was set up a perimeter around the base to make sure no one could fight their way in or out. Inside one of the transports Faal and his squad got ready to go in. He was putting on his armor, dark blue signifying he was special forces. This would be his first action since he came out of the coma. Flashes of dreams he had still bothered him, and he couldn't get these overwealming feelings under control. Usually when he was alone with his squad he was at home, but now it was worse. His closeness to his squad mates was creating a mental link, he was sharing their feelings. He put on his helmet and it helped a little. He grabbed two plasma rifles and a carbine and secured them to his armor. He had to concentrate on the job and suppress these feelings.

Faal's squad went in first. As his training took over he finally got relief from the mental strain. The hallways were dark, the lighting tubes had been shattered and the water containing the bioluminescent bacteria was all over the floor. Each step they took in it gave off a tiny burst light, just enough to notice a glow with each footstep. The activated their infared visors and continued along.

The hallways were littered with the dead bodies of the rebel guards, blood was spattered against the walls and puddled in the water. They searched the entire base and found nothing alive until outside one of the closets they heard noises. A thermo scan showed one warm body inside. They burst in only to find a male curled up in the fetal position on the floor. He was shaking and muttering incoherantly. He was in an advanced state of shock.

Faal bent over to try to sit him up. When his hand touched the male, visions of death and horror raced through his mind. He jerked his hand away and stood up.

His partners stared at him. "What's wrong?" Kela asked.

Faal stared at the poor male convulsing on the floor. "Get him out of here."

-----------------------------------------------------------------

The marines scoured the base for information and supplies, then they policed the bodies and planted explosives. Faal stood in the hanger and stared back at the base.

Kela walked out of the transport and over to him. "Everything is secure we are ready to go."

Faal seemed not to notice.

"Come on Faal, they're going to make this place a crater. Let's go."

He looked at her and felt her concern for his new strange behavior. It brought him back to the present. "Right, let's get home." He boarded the transport and they launched. What ever had done this was long gone. He thought. The flashes he had of the fight, while not clear, did make it clear this was not the work of a rebel fight. This was much worse than finding a rebel base. That was for sure.

Work at the shipyards in orbit had been going non-stop. At last the first two fleets had been completed, and the third fleet was now under way.

Currently Active Fleets:
Aquilan Defense Fleet (System Defense Fleet (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Tidani_Star_Fleets#System_Defence_Fleet))
-Stationed in the Aquilan System

Vanguard of the Republic Fleet (Battle Fleet (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Tidani_Star_Fleets#Battle_Fleet))
-Stationed in the Aquilan System

Your extremely generous offer is most welcome. We accept your gift of 1 Voyager-Class Deep Space Military Shipyard and Colony and 1 Angel-Class Orbital Planetary Defense Platform. We will also purchase 1 additional Angel. We would like to purchase more from you, however at this time we lack the personnel to man any additional stations. We have enough currently to operate the stations requested from you, the fleets currently planned for construction, and maintain regular military presence on our planet.

Order:
1 Voyager (free)
2 Angels (1 free + 1x410 billion)

The Angel and Voyager stations arrived at Aquila. The massive undertaking of crewing the stations began. It took several months of transport and adapting the stations to better suit Tidani and Watani life. The Angel defense platforms, named Spirit of Tidan and Spirit of Watatuneetsu, became operational. The first Voyager shipyard, named Soul of Draelis after the second planet in the Aquilan System, made its way to the barren world to oversee resource extraction and begin ship building in orbit. It would become the colony and government center of Draelis since the world could not support life. It was, however, the most important source of raw materials for the construction of ships in the system.
Tidan
16-12-2005, 19:59
The Soul of Draelis arrived at Draelis where it began collecting the stores of metals and minerals from supply bases on the surface. Now the titanic station would begin building ships as fast as the barren world relinquished its resources.

Construction now began on fortification of Aquila. The Angel platform in orbit and the one still to come would help but they would not be enough. The plans for Iceburg Ion Cannons were laid and ready to begin construction. Iceburgs were based on the designs of the KDY-v150 Planet Defender, but twice the size and yield. As the name suggests they will be deployed on the ocean with the huge mass bouyant under the surface and only the end of the barrel emerged. The submerged design not only helps protect the cannons from detection and attack, but also reduce the cooldown time of the weapon by venting heat directly into the surrounding water. Power is from a hydrogen fueled fussion reactor supplied by 2 fuel tanks that take hydrogen straight from the ocean. This allow 2 consecutive shots before it must recharge the fuel cells. Recharging takes about 10 minutes.

The first batch built will be about a dozen cannons to be spread around the planet.

18-12-2005, 05:38
The second Voyager shipyard, named Shield of the Monarch, arrived at Aquila. It was crewed and sent to Hyr in the Hyr System 300 light years from Aquila. There it would build ships and provide defense for the Hyren, the new allies and members of the Republic of Tidan.
Tidan
22-12-2005, 07:28
Settled over Draelis, the Soul of Draelis had finished collecting all the materials it need from the mines and stockpiles on the surface. Now it could begin the construction of the 2nd battle fleet. The massive construction bays set to work assembling the machines of war and security. With the station running at full capacity the fleet would be complete in 5 months (OOC: 5 RL days) and would be ready for operation.
Tidan
28-12-2005, 03:17
The deployment of the 2nd battle fleet has been delayed while the tests are finishing and bugs are worked out on the new classes of warship being constructed. All tests should be completed in 1 months time and deployment will continue.

A Scarab class (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10117232&postcount=58) Luxury Transport Shuttle was dispatched through the Hyperspace Jump Gate network to the Tidan home system to pick up their representatives.

The Jump Gate opened and the scarab re-entered real space. It was picked up on sensors by the AFORS Station.

Greetings SeaQuest ship. Welcome to Aquila. We have allocated docking bay 2 for you to enter. Docking bay 2's entrance beacon has been activated.

The beacon was turned on. It would help the shuttle locate the bay and contained entrance vector and landing section information for the pilots. Dr. Prasov and his team made their way to Bay 2.

The pilot of the SeaQuestian craft sent a brief acknowledgement message before easing her ship in at the indicated dock. Once an air-tight seal was confirmed, she hit the control that opened the airlock on her end.

She knew that the SeaQuestians could have sent a generic transport craft, but the chose to instead send a luxury shuttle. Well small, a Scarab was like a flying hotel room with all the amenities.

Slumbering far beneath the soil of the ocean floor; the Hive brooded and permutated, spreading in arcing colonies; through soft ocean mud, basking in the slow warmth of the depths; emerging only to feed; a voracious underwater organism; a thousand snarling maws hissing and snapping in the murky blackness. They had no need for eyes; they had changed; adapted to their new environment. Bio-organic lights glimmered and shone across their bodies; bait to lure in the unwary.

Merely waiting for the chance to once again assault those who had so foolishly thought them destroyed. Waiting to assimilate new code from the sentients who dwelt upon this world.
