A Blessed Revival (Semi-Open RP)

Aztec Kingdom
20-09-2005, 21:55
The time had come... we would reveal ourselves to the rest of society. How they would react to it? We weren't sure. They'd thought we were destroyed and eliminated from this planet. They were dead wrong. We survived. We grew, and we remained in secret. The time had come...

Topiltzin Xiucozcatl had approached the citizens of the Aztec Kingdom on whether or not relations with the outside world should commence, this time, without the ignorance of the previous attempt, whereupon the Aztecs were nearly eliminated from the face of the planet. The citizen were skeptical, but it was rough living in complete seclusion from the rest of the world. They yearned for the chance at growing and expanding relations to the rest of the world, in hopes at living together, with other civilizations in harmony. Of course, this alone was impossible, but having a few good allies would make their arrival on the international scene much worth it.

A vote was issued for the Aztecs to decide on what the next action should be. After all, if the worst case scenario came into play yet again, it would be their decision that allowed it. Topiltzin couldn't live with that burden...

For an entire week, the Aztecs were allowed to vote on this issue. It remained very close for the majority of the time that the polls opened, but in the end, the decision to open contact with the rest of the world was approved only by a few hundred votes. For the five million Aztecs, of which were growing at a fairly fast rate, this meant either glory or perhaps, doom. The doom of their civilization rested in the hands of Topiltzin, leader of the Aztecs, and the one who would be addressing the rest of the world.

---------------------------------------

Topiltzin walked into his office with a very burdened look on his face. What he was about to say to the rest of the world today would affect his civilization, depending on whether the speech is successful or not. Despite being frightened about it, he had the support of the majority of his people, which still didn't give him much to relax about, seeing as a pretty large minority opposed it. If he were to make a single mistake, his head would be handed to those who opposed him on a silver platter, hypothetically speaking of course.

He sat down in a chair, and stared out towards the marvelous city of Tenochtitlan, in all of its glory. The sun shined down upon its' beauty and blessed its proud citizens with yet another great day. At a distance, he could see a few children running around in front of their houses.

"Ah, the bliss of being young. What I would give to go back to when I was a child..." as Topiltzin sighed. His mind was burdened with the inevitable opening of relations with the rest of the world. He needed to be careful of what he said.

"The civilization of the Aztecs... unspoiled by the rest of the world. I'm afraid that foreigners may ruin the beauty that is the Aztec Kingdom. Though time can only tell."

Getting up from his chair, he looked back outside only to notice that the children had run back into their houses. In his mind, he thought about what their reaction will be to foreigners in the Kingdom. He had his own share of worries about the worst case scenarios...

The time had come for him to give an address to the rest of the world. He was prepared for it, despite the fact that it was obvious that he was extremely nervous. He opened the door to his office, closed it very quietly, and set his head on the door.

"Concentrate." he whispered to himself. "Don't ruin this for your people. They trust you to succeed in everything that you do. Failure is certainly not an option."

He walked down the stairs and out of the front doors where the broadcast would be sent through to various networks, which have been informed of this announcement. Walking up to the podium, he smiled, looked at the people attending the address, and began to speak.

"Leaders of the world,
I come to you today to announce the opening of relations between the Aztec Kingdom and the rest of you. We are no longer going to stay in seclusion, with a mistrust of the rest of the world. In order to succeed, time must be invested in getting to know other leaders of like-minded nations, as well as negotiations with those who may be different from us. If we can work together with other civilizations to bring more prosperity to the Kingdom and their respective nations, then so be it.

We must advise everyone that we are still quite apprehensive about open full relations with anyone, and that we'd like to get to know other nations before we decide to trust them. As a leader, you all should know that your citizens come first, and that their protection is of the utmost importance to any leader. There is a special bond between leader and citizen, as the leader is trusted to lead the citizen through good times as well as bad, and the citizen is expected to honour the leaders decisions, as well as support them through good and bad times.

Getting to know each others' culture is one of the most important things, because of the fact that a misunderstanding between two civilizations can lead to conflict, politically and militarily, which effectively can destroy a nation. We must make sure that this will not happen. The Aztec Kingdom is willingly offering its hand to those of you who may seek it. Will you accept?"

On behalf of the government and people of Taldaan, I warmly welcome you into the realm of international politics. Your message of understanding and unity is one that is much needed in this unstable world, and it is refreshing to see a young and vibrant nation that does not squander itself upon doomed displays of military might.

I assure you that I fully understand your apprehension about forming close diplomatic relations early. Trust is something to be given only to those who deserve it, that much we agree on, and so I do not offer anything as yet. Our two nations need an opportunity to get to know one another. Thus I propose that a diplomat be sent to talk to yourself and possibly other members of your government. If you are willing, this can take place within days.

I personally thank you for your warm welcome. Your response is the sort of thing that will appease even the most stubborn of Aztec citizens, in the action of opening ourselves up to the world. Perhaps through this, the entire nation can come together and rejoice over new friends.

Military might is of no concern to us, seeing as diplomacy and culture are much more important to us. Once diplomacy and culture have been exchanged between nations, a strong military might is not needed. We certainly aren't looking to invade or conquer anyone, as we recognize national sovereignty to be something that no nation should approach, though we do understand the idea of desperate times where the nation or nations in question have no other choice.

I accept your offer in opening relations between the Aztec Kingdom and the glorious nation of Taldaan, as well as learning more about each other, in hopes of becoming great friends. This is an opportunity that we would not pass up for the world. We would be more than welcome to show your representative around our Kingdom. There is much to be revealed to the rest of the world.

I am pleased to see that a civilization of such admirable culture and architecture were not destroyed by Spanish imperialism. However I have noticed that you have emerged from isolation vulnerable to suffering the same fate. I believe it would be beneficial to you and your ancient people if you join in MAP which is dedicated to aid developing nations.

The general populace of Numadia is amazed. We, the Board of International Relations, wish to send a team of diplomats and researchers to rediscover the Aztec civilization. If you choose to approve of this action, we will send these specialists in by helicopter, or, if you so prefer, by automobile.

We do not wish to purchase anything from your storefront, and we take this offer as a suprise, seeing as our civilization wants nothing to do with any sort of military affairs. Our nation will remain free of foreign weapons, such as yours.

We appreciate your offer of aid; however, we will refrain from committing ourselves to any sort of organization at this time until we can get to know the nations involved in it, to the best of our extent. We may be perceived as being 'too proud' of our Kingdom, but at this point, we believe that our nation can grow just as fine as it would with being involved in an organization. No offense intended.

This is the sort of response that we are quite apprehensive of accepting. Allowing your specialists and diplomats into our Kingdom can very well upset an already delicate balance between us opening relations with the rest of the world and our restrictions on those entering our nation. For now, we will deny this request, for the simple fact that we are only going to allow one or two people from each nation, of those being sent for diplomatic reasons only. Specialists, scientists, and observers will be temporarily denied until relations between the Kingdom and the nation in question have advanced to a certain point, and we feel that we can trust them.

The Democratic Colonies is pleased to welcome the Aztec Kingdom onto the modern world stage. The Democratic Colonies is a nation of peace and understanding, and we would be honored to share our history, culture and experiences with the people of the Aztec Kingdom. I believe that our two nations, and our two peoples, could have a great deal to offer to one another, both culturally and economically.

The Colonial Government would like to dispatch, if you are willing, High Diplomat Elle Westmore to establish relations with your nation. I and the rest of the Democratic Colonies believe there is great potential waiting to be discovered between our great nations.

It's good to know that other nations out there are more interested in the development of culture, diplomacy, and the economy throughout the world, rather than focusing on the military as their most important aspect. We are willing to open negotiations with the Democratic Colonies, in order to learn more about your culture and the customs of your nation. Your representative will be allowed to travel to our nation so that we may discuss the advancement of relations between our two peoples.

We too are pleased to encounter a nation such as the Aztec Kingdom. At times, it seems as if our supposedly civilized world has advanced not nearly as far as some would think in the centuries since your nation's withdrawl from the world at large. At any given time, conflicts and war continue ceaselessly in all corners of the globe. In some regions, the very concept of peaceful coexistance has been tragically lost to an entire generation. In the world of today, the Democratic Colonies is very glad indeed to have the pleasure of meeting a noble nation such as yours.

High Diplomat Westmore can be dispatched shortly, but our knowledge of your Kingdom's infrastructure is sorely lacking. If there is a large airport or similar facility with extended 4,000 meter runway that we may use, Ms. Westmore can arrive via supersonic aircraft, as is our preference. If no such facilities are available however, alternate arrangements, be they by air or sea, can be arranged.

As well, although I with all sincerity do not mean any offense, it is my duty to inquire what, if any, safety and security precautions would be considered appropiate for Ms. Westmore. I have no doubt that Ms. Westmore will be in perfect safety while visiting the Aztec Kingdom, but our need to protect our citizens, as I'm sure you understand, is something that can only be considered to be of paramount importance. I remain certain however, that even if protective measures are taken, as is our preference, that they will not be needed nor tested for the duration of this first meeting.

Secretary Stephanie March, Federated Union of Democratic Colonies

I thank you for your rapid response, and also for your generous acceptance of our offer. As we know so little about your nation, I must ask you where the nearest airport is to your capital city. If for any reason our diplomat is unable to arrive by aircraft, alternative arrangements can be made, although I must inform you that it would take considerably longer.

While I do not wish to cast the hospitality and moral standing of your people into doubt, we must discuss security arrangements. We can supply bodyguards, but we entirely understand if you do not wish to have foreign soldiers on your soil. If we cannot supply our own guards, would it be possible for you to arrange for some of your own forces to guard our representative?

It is with great pleasure and honour that I write to the Aztec Kingdom on this day, a day that will be remembered in our joint histories for the beginning of Aztec-Azazian relations. The United Kingdom of Azazia prefers peace to war and trade to conquest, and so we would like to offer our hand with the olive branch of peace and the gold coin of prosperity to be shared between both our peoples. I eagerly await your response.
