When would be a good time to start? OOC

Well, I know this is the IC forums, but, I was wondering, when exactly is a good time to start roleplaying the contruction of large vessels in an FT setting? My current population is 117,000,000, which, by MT standards, would be an ideal time to start building a larger military, forging new alliances, maybe even starting up a WMD program, etc, etc...but, I've noticed on FT Nations..things tend to be multiplied.

Ships, even small ones, have cost ranges in the billions, so, somehow I assume it works the same with Population...with FT, comes the need for a much, much larger population to operate properly.

My People, "Craykers," are the creation of genetics splicing in the extreme.Highly intelligent, they know the concept of space travel well, even when their species was young (as their creaters were spacefaring people)...and, when exiled, they even built their own ships to traverse the galaxy.

Of course, upon arriving, generations passed, and people shifted from science to mythology. But now the shift is turning back towards science, and a new interest in space t ravel, and the teghnologies of old.

But, what, in your opinion, would be an optimum time to begin roleplaying the construction of large spaceships (1,000 meters+)?

I'll admit, I'm pretty much a complete newb to FT concepts of Roleplay.
