In Retaliation(FT ATTN: Hydrogen-Land)

It was an odd situation. A swarm invades a small, rather useless planet shared by the Empire and the Imperium of Chronosia; and then war breaks out between the Republic and the Fist. It was not the way anyone imagined the inevitable war would come about.

Hydrogen-Land had declared war on the Empire directly, and that gives reason enough to take action. Retaliation, an act that the Empire has done many times against the countless enemies of the Republic; most recently, the now destroyed Neo Zetan Empire. But now the glorious legions of Taledonia were being sent against the once allied nation of Hydrogen-Land; to destroy or enslave their giant rock in which they dwell. But the retaliation effort did not start with the first shots of a blaster on the battlefield, but rather in the quite peaceful temple of Talean in the Imperial Capitol.

Admiral Dorian knelt in the midst of the great garden, bowing his head and saying a prayer to the great marble statue of the God of power. Today he would lead a fleet consisting of 35 starships, and an entire legion of troops into battle against the Hydronauts.

Talean, give me the mind to lead successfully, and the power and strength to snatch victory with minimal loss to your children. For the glory of the three Gods, and the continuation of the Empire.

Standing up, he turned and looked at the two rows of honour guards standing in attention awaiting him. As he walked down the middle, the rows turned and started filling after him out of the awesome temple.

It was the final step in a downward progression that had been occuring for years, the beast that Hydrogen-Land had fed has become hungry once again. The Fortress planet of Hydrogen-Land was strangely silent, much like the calm before the storm. The Giant rock had weathered much, being one of the single largest bodies in the universe gave it a certain pride, as did it to the Hydronaut people, who had faced the Rock's less than hospitable conditions, and as they grew, and the underground cities were erected, the giant rock became the shell that protected them, and now, for the first time, it was in danger.

It was odd to give the command, but it had to be done, and as the ships filed out for what seemed like days, it was a frightening thought to think that the Rock was, for the first time yet again, almost empty. The gigantic rock was almost obscured completely from view because of all the ships, the fighters being tiny specs in space, and the massive Battle Cruisers seeming no more than ants. The Battle Cruiser, the single largest ship in the Navy, stood with it's sister ships around the rock. Hundreds of thousands of DRED fighters circled the planet, ready to release the power within, and the brave AXE fighters calculated plans and equations, and prayed. As the last DRED flew out of the rock, it was time to begin, the hundreds of Rail Guns layering the surface of the Rock came to attention, so to speak, and as ground crews suited up, Grenades loaded, power sources switched to "on", the silence was finally broken.

...where once our friends, but now are our enemies. They helped the Empire build the Republic, but then made it decend into darkness several times.

Admiral Dorian was standing behind the large podium, facing the thousands of troops gathered infront of him. The black rifles against the dark gray armor of the troops went on and on in the ranks of men in the back; the men in the front, officers and ship crews, stood in their uniforms; and the men in the back, countless fighter and bomber pilots all in the matching gear, stood proud and tall.

It is with sad duty that I report to you all, that the colony world of Kosse has been brutally attacked; and while the battle is still raging, the Iron Fist has pledge their support to the enemy. It is for this reason that we will go into battle against the Hydronauts. It is for this reason that we shall take the surface of their rock, and continue down into their submerged cities. The God Talean, father of all, will be with us, and he along with the two other gods, will be watching. Do not make them ashamed! It is our duty, as citizens of this great Empire, to pick up the mallet, and drive the stake into the hearts of the enemy!

A thunderous cheer arose from the ranks of men, and almost in unison, their right arms shot up towards the sky in salute of their leader.

Now, to victory!

The final shout from the Admiral was almost drowned out by the sound of the thousands of men marching towards their respective ships and up the ramps into them.

Excellent speech, Admiral. But will it be enough?

The Taledonian Senate that had been standing in a line behind the Admiral as he spoke walked forward now, to offer their last words to the man who would soon enter into bloody battle.

I could have simply stated we are going to war, and the men would fight just as hard. They love the Empire, as it is their home, and they will do anything to serve it and the Emperor.

And the promise of plunder, has no doubt played a large part.

It has, Senator Plotmey, but then, when have you ever done anything without receiving something in return? I'm sure that expensive villa you own ontop of Mount Talean doesn't pay for itself.

The politicians do their part, let's hope the soldiers can do theirs.

They will, very well, I promise that, Senator...

::Aboard BC1::

General Macpherson took the podium.

"Men, Hydronauts, I must tell you how devestating this is to me. We were all born on Hydrogen-Land, as were our fathers, brothers, and every Hydronaut. The rock that birthed our race is in danger, and we are obligated to fight for it."

The Soldiers stood somber, daring not cheer.

"Taledonia, our nation's former friend, has declared war on our great nation, and has vowed to either enslave us all, or destroy that of which we love the most. We will not be enslaved, I would rather die than join them again, and I would be sure that you agree."

The Soldiers remained still, tears could be seen in many eyes.

"And so, we fight to the death, we fight for ourselves, and mostly, we fight for our love, Hydrogen-Land. Men, Soldiers, Brothers, I wish the best of luck, and I promise you, Hydrogen-Land lives on in all of us, and it will never die, you are all truly what make our nation great, and what seperates us from the rest, we can save celebration for later, to arms, to victory!"

The Hydronauts all raised a hand in traditional Hydronaut fashion, and filed out, they assumed their posts, and readied for battle.

It's beautiful, isn't it General?

Admiral Dorian stood onboard the 3rd Imperial Fleet's flagship, the Fabled Warrior, looking out the window at the glorious planet below. The Imperial Class Battle Cruiser sat amongst the rest of the glorious Taledonian fleet.

If it wasn't, do you think we would fight so hard to protect her, Admiral?

General Decius stood beside him, looking down on Taledonia. He was in his drill uniform. His greying hair cut short and kept orderly, and his clean shaven wrinkled face still showed strength and great wisdom; and his composure showed the hard years he served as a grunt many years before arising to his present rank.

Are the men up to the challenge? You know as well as anybody the defenses they have on the surface.

Just get my troops in there, we will do the rest. Keep the enemy ships of our backs, and the planet will be ours. But now I take my leave, Admiral. The troops wont inspect themselves.

The General left, and Dorian kept his glare on the planet below for a few minutes longer before turning towards the rest of the bridge.

Are the co-ordinates locked in?

Yes, Admiral, ready to jump to Hydrogen-Land on your command.

Proceed.

As the order was given, the 3rd Imperial fleet disappeared in a ray of light, and were on their way towards the target. Towards victory, or death.

The alarms beeped in BC1 as the alert was raised. Alarms sounded, declaring "Universal Jump Beacon Detected". Hydrogen-Land was too precious to leave unguarded, but an away team was already being sent out. The Majority of the fleet stayed in orbit of the Rock, but two Battle Cruisers and a plethora of DREDs, AXEs, and Cruisers were sent as well.

A beacon was sent to the outlying Taledonian system, where many weakly guarded planets were, the only problem would be the defense array, hopefully, the explosive power of the DREDs could take care of that. With the Beacon set, the Cruisers and company readies to jump, taking a final look at Hydrogen-Land, they initiated the command, and began speeding towards the beacon.

It was a three second flight before the ships appeared in another flash of light. But this time they were face to face with the giant rock that is Hydrogen-Land. Immeadiatly, alarms started ringing throughout the ships.

So, the Hydronauts have chosen to actually stand up and fight, instead of sitting underneath their rock. Raise shields, and arm weapons systems. Launch a quarter of the fighters and bombers, and have those Taledonian DRED machines start pumping out drones. And for Talean's sake, turn off that fucking siren!

Around each of the Taledonian starships, a large blue bubble appeared, then disappeared. The shielding was up, and the weapons charged. From the various hangers of the attack vessels and from the giant hangers of the carriers; thousands of TF-20s and TB-25s poured out, accompanied by thousands of TDREDs, the explosive drones that would serve to keep the Hydronaut DREDs of the rest of the ships.

Spearheading the swarm of small craft, was the immense blasts of energy that flew from the cannons of the ships. The energy torpedoes flew alongside the mighty blasts, and accompaning them was the turbo laser fire.

The first part of the fight had started, but it would be the deciding factor of the fight.

"Sir, I was afraid of this, they are using our own technology against us, they threw a sharp edge to the DRED and are throwing them at us!" yelled one of the techs sittting at a desk. The General looked down at him and said "No worries my friend, send fourty DREDs to each one of their machines, and have the AXE's take out the TDREDs that they have unleashed." The orders were wired out, and the fighters began flight, it was strange, because none of the large ships had even moved, but it was of no matter, the AXE's superior speed would doom the TDREDs, and hopefully, the explosive power of the traditional DREDs could overpower the machines.

It was a foolish move for the Hydronauts. The TF-20s started mopping up the AXE fighters, and the DREDs that went to destroy the TDRED machines were simply shot down before they could even enter the hangers where the machines were located. More and more of them poured out, along with more and more fighters and bombers, who went about attacking enemy small craft, or doing attack runs on the enemy starships.

Remember to keep the fleet out of range of their planetary defenses, but continue to pound their fleet.

The Admiral contently looked out the window at the display of lights. It would be something he would remember for along time, and something others would remember him for for along time.

"Sir! They've sent fighters of equal power to combat our AXEs, they're being desolated!" yelled one of the chair-jockeys.

"Well then detonate the DREDs where they stand, that will destroy the surrounding fighters, and change the orders, have the other DREDs destroy the outside of the machines, it'll take longer, but it'll save more lives than this mess!"

"Very well sir!" said the tech as he punched in commands.

The Big Guns then came into play.

"You!" yelled Macpherson, pointing to another Tech, "Signal BC2 to begin fire, and have all grenade cruisers begin bombardment of large vessels!"

::meanwhile in the Taledonian System::

"We've just recieved word from H-L ground command to start sending down stock troops to the planets!" yelled a suited Hydronaut.

The ships then began releasing the drop ships, hundreds of them came rushing down towards the planets, as railguns fired at the defense grid, hopefully keeping the computers distracted enough to get through. As the dropships came speeding down, hundreds of minds were singled on one thing, salvation.
