Background
Operation - Born is a story which takes place during the first Japanese Civil War. Joseph's parents are American immigrants from Nebraska, a territory located in Soviet Bloc. Joseph joined the Japanese Military sometime before Civil War was officially declared between The Republic of Japan and The Grand Empire of Japan. Because of this his family sort of shunned him, disappointed that he would rather throw away his useful existance for a petty war. Joseph has served in several battles that have taken place before Part 1 Chapter 1. He became known as " Lucky " thanks to his survival of some of the worst battles to be recorded in this first Civil War.

Chapter 1 - " Shelling "
" TAKE COVER!! "
Joseph scuttered around in the fields as multiple men began screaming, crying for there comrades to avoid being shelled. But how? It fell as rapid as it did raining, and it covered that much area too! The stench was just God-awful too, and not the burnt crop of the fields. Young boys lay in these once peaceful farm lands dismembered and crying, some looking for there 'finger'. Joseph, on the other hand, was " Lucky " to not be one of them. The shelling had been going on for hours and at the same moment gun fire from all directions were being recorded in the dirt.
" I'M HIT!!! "
" MOMMY...MOMMY MOMMY....MOMMY!!!! "
" MY LEG, WHERE IS MY LEG?! "
Joseph was in tears because of all of the commotion, he and a few other un-injured ones somehow massed together and the shelling had stop.
Sgt. - " You there, I want you to help him and him set up that machinegun. You, radio in some back up you lazy sack of shit!! You there soldier, I want you to cover us. "
Joseph was the " Lucky " one to have recieved the funnest order of the hour. Making sure his hide AND his comrades' hides were to stay perfectly intact. How wonderful, he thought.
He began having flashbacks from when he was a child. He remembered how proud he was to one day finally serve in the Marines. He bragged it to everyone as much as possible, trying to prove something. Something that was now apparently a lost cause for him. He waited his whole life to finally just.....finally just throw it away. He had been somewhat amazed that he had so far survived all of his past " Confrontations " with the enemy escaping only with minor scrapes and bruises. He asked himself why, sometimes chanting it as if speaking with someone. That someone being God. He stayed in his crouch position, he and the few others luckily massed up behind some pretty big trees that had fallen over. He pretty much stayed in his mind, reliving memories and thoughts. He had lost everything now....well, everyone. He could see the betrayel in his mother's eyes even though she said she was proud. He knew she felt lied too, or atleast useless. For years she had tried to keep him out but knew that Joseph would get him self in one way or another. And he did. And now the only thing he would generally ask is " Why? ". But suddenly, his questions were answered.
Joseph was ripped back into reality as his weapon fell onto the ground and he slowly went onto his back. Everything had suddenly turned from confusion and questions to just pain and questions. With what little strength he felt that was with him after this tearing feeling, he lifted his right hand up and reached to the sensation and pulled his hand up.
Joseph - " Thank you... "
Chapter 2 - " Where am I? "
Joseph woke up slightly in a verry strange place. He was confused once again, but still in pain. His hearing and clear vision, even his smell and taste started comming back to him and slowly every reccolation of his life crept into his head out of no where. And then he heard the beep.
' Beep....Beep....Beep.... '
He suddenly looked around the room and down at himself. He wasn't in his uniform, and noticed the IV plugged into his right hand. He looked back up and suddenly a man dressed in a white robe-type thing and military fatigue pants walked up with a pen and a clipboard in his hands. He looked at Joseph and grunted a bit, kind of ammusingly.
Joseph - " Wh...where am I? "
Doctor - " Your home. Don't worry about a thing, you'll be back on your feet later on. But for now, it's time to see what you want for your meal. "
Joseph - " How long have I been out? "
Doctor - " Oh I would say a.... "
He tapped his temple with the butt of the pen and sighed. He flipped through some papers and stopped at one and his finger started sliding on the paper.
Doctor - " Oh about..about a week and a half. "
Joseph - " What...what happened? "
Doctor - " Soldier, I'm not exactly sure what happened..well how you survived in that hell hole. And honestly, I don't know what happened in your little " battle " if that is what you meant. I'm not exactly the right guy to ask that.....here, take this form and pick your meal or whatever...I'll have a Nurse check on you in a few minutes. "
The Doctor pushed the end of the clip and pulled out a piece of paper. He scanned it one more time, and then handed it down to Joseph who could barely lift his arms. The Doctor helped position the paper in Joseph's hands so he could look at it. He couldn't remember what most of this stuf was on the paper. It had been forever, well so he thought, since he had any of this. But a childhood memmory came into place, and he decided to just simply pick a PB Sandwich and a glass of milk.
As the Doctor said, a Nurse came walking into the room. She walked over to Joseph's bedside and asked him what he had selected. He told her and she took the paper with her and walked out of the room. She soon returned with his meal and sat in a chair next to Joseph.
You see, he wasn't 'pooped' out from a simple gunshot wound. Imagine walking non-stop for nearly 3 days and 3 nights, and suddenly comming under fire several times during that time period and finally recieving a wound once your body is near the point of giving up.
She reached for the sandwhich but Joseph spoke up.
Joseph - " No..no need to do that m'am. I can handle my self. "
She, instead, just handed him the sandwhich and Joseph managed to get a few little bites before his arm collapsed on him, causing a memory. He just remembered where he was shot, thanks to the wave of shock sent down to the wound. He had been hit in the gut right under the rib cage on the right of his abdomen. He gave out a slight grunt of pain and the Nurse offered to help but he refused again and continued eating. He had always been a 'hard-ass' when it came down to accepting little help even when he was seriously hurt. Especially in his last hospital visit, when he was four-teen. He managed to finish it after twenty or so minutes. By this time, the Nurse had left. He reached for his glass of milk but immediatly after he held it over his body, it fall. The vibration from this was directly sent down to his wound, causing him to yelp.
Two nurses and a Doctor came rushing in. Joseph's hands were squeezing the fabric of the bed's sheet as he gave off a low grunt of pain and misery. He just continued squeezing the bedding, and started to cry.
Chapter 3 - " Soldier, you've got a visitor. "
Two days had passed, leaving Joseph in dispair. He had figured, before he ended up here, that his family probably didn't want anything to do with him for awhile. And after these two long miserable days he kind of figured that they wern't going to come. But by day three, things sort of changed.
Doctor - " Soldier, you've got a visitor. He'll be in shortly. "
Joseph's miserable thoughts began to disepate and was becomming excited. He knew he thought bad of them a bit back in combat but now knew how much he wanted to see any of there faces, hear one of there voices, smell there soft warm scents. But his excitement proved to have been for nothing.
General - " Erm...Greatings Private Liberator. I have heard of about some of the rumors, and thought I would drop by to hear some of your encounters from, well...your own words. "
Joseph just stared at him blankly, somewhat angered with himself for getting so worked up. He sighed and began to speak.
Joseph - " What rumors...sir? "
The General gave him a sort of funny expression.
General - " They have been saying...well, basically everyone has been calling you ' Lucky '.. "
Joseph - " They? Wait...my squad? Are they alive? What the hell happened to them? "
Joseph's mind was running with multiple fears. Sure, Joseph was verry negative in combat. He would always ask himself why, or someone else why. But now his true feelings were seeping from underneath his sturdyness, and was already in tears after his question. See, to Joseph..like any other soldier..saw every member of his squad sort of like his brothers, or cousins, he even thought of his Lieutenant as a father figure.
General - " There..well..... "
A long moment of silence, and the General began speaking again.
General - " Some of them didn't make it... "
