NBC (Nationstate Broadcasting Corporation), a communications conglomerate located in the Grand Duchy of Glorious Bob, is proud to bring you The War Channel.

24 hours a day, seven days a week, nothing but war. Histories, sporting commentary on current wars, jingoistic commercials, consumer reports on military hardware- it is the channel for all your war needs!

TWC can offer reasonably priced coverage of your war!

The Channel maintains editorial content of course as credibility is the coin of the realm. However if you want to get 'your story' out it's hard to beat a multi-planet dedicated 24/7 channel.

In the interest of fairness, we present some criticism of TWC.

How much is it to get war coverage ?
Glorious Bob
18-09-2005, 18:37
Wilink, there are many variables that can affect the price.

It depends on how many nations covering how much square miles and the likely wastage of our equipment and personnel based on the ferocity and competence of the warfighters.

And to be honest TWC is a business, so a lot depends on viewer and advertiser interest. With the right war there would be no charge at all beyond cooperation and transport to the front.

Incidentally TWC NEVER signs exclusive contracts, either advertising or coverage. Your opponents could see the benefits of what we offer and choose to participate as well. Of course, this also means they cannot 'outbid' you and shut down your side of the story.

There IS no 'Official Fighter Plane of The War Channel', appealing as that is to our sales department. And our consumer reports are totally free of bias towards advertisers, if there is any favoritism found all parties would be fired and/or suspended from doing business with TWC.

I meant as in, camera men went along with the troops on the front line.

Alright, so let's say you have yourself a short 30-day war as seems to be the standard here given everyone's accelerated operational speed.

The war covers 90,000 square miles.

If your war is hot and that would probably warrant

4 vidsats and 2 rorsats in your region (meaning as they orbit your war would get a slice of their time on their pass),

UAV-dropped sonobuoys plus 2 subcambots to track the sub battle,

a couple of comsats to handle the broadband feed,

an EW/hacker section to prevent anyone (competing channels, yours or your opponent's military, NGOs, 14 year olds, etc.) from interfering with the broadcasts, 10 field journalists plus 10 support persons per for 100 total,

a 40-person UAV section tied in tightly with the journalist section to provide both footage and operational safety support,

a 20-person long-range transport section for the above C-130s, helicopters, ospreys, etc. (including likely civilian rescues in order for TWC to look good, because we are the caring warmonger channel),

24/7 situation room dedicated to your war, likely about 8 anchors and 20 support,

miltary commentators, probably our standard stable plus knowledgeable experts on the region, the combatant nations and your forces in particular,

and a dedicated sales staff that understands psychotronic warfare and can help with your propaganda needs (greatly variable depending on how you want to use this option).

All this costs money, and as you can see is very specialized to our tasks. This is why in the modern era we have to charge for coverage in addition to any advertising we sell from either you or other parties.

A lot depends on the 'theatricality' of your war, how well it plays as a story. Do you have photogenic soldiers? A general with personality? A great paint job on your weapons? A righteous cause? All these play into our cost structure as well.

Keep in mind we do need to keep these professionals, the best in the world, occupied, so you may catch us in an off month and get this package at cost.

Due to the boredom and lack of wars...(also they all seem to end in a diplomatic way - boooring) The esteemed leader of the Armed Republic of Xenose would like to set up a war game with another nation - to further test our nations defese. (And test to see if NS Battle will serve its goals) It will seem like an actual war - with war reports - but no real casualties will be inflicted. I need a volenteer nation to telegram me asap!

Willink, you are asking about just a couple of camera crews?

Hmmmph, that is our blue-light special, and typically we find that the extremely limited imagery a camera crew can capture without our 'total picture' coverage makes for bad production values.

We often end up not even using it or as filler in our Wide World of War weekly highlights, or selling it to cost-conscious newsfeeds (which does make for bargain-basement coverage so you may get at least some imagery out there in the media world cheaply, it just won't be the quality coverage that keeps people glued to TWC). Remember you are buying coverage, but we do have quality standards and as with anything else you get what you pay for.

On the other hand these blue-light teams are where we place the most aggressive young journalists to allow them to make a name for themselves without to much oversight so you may get yourself a spectacular bargain. Or coverage of your worst military blunder, remember they ARE aggressive and we do not censor our editorial content for host nation 'happiness'.

Blue-light special

2 11-man camera teams, satellite uplink capable but no EW section so possible jamming, 30-day medium-sized average ferocity war, host country provides security and transportation.

$2 million USD.

Ahh Xenose, perfect, we have a weekly War Games show in which this would fit perfectly!

And our production costs go down greatly as we can schedule our quality coverage assets without having to 'find' the story and also not pay hazard/life insurance costs so there likely would be a nominal fee!

We are back in business and ready for your propaganda needs.
