Island up for grabs

SkyCapt
14-09-2005, 15:08
An unused island off of SkyCapt's coast is up for sale, as we have no use for it, and need a bit of cash for our war efforts.
Anyways:

Name: ________ Island (name up to buyer)
Distance from SkyCapt: 150km from SkyCapt
Dimensions: 210km x 190km
Features: Jungle/Forest type vegetation, almost no wildlife, uninhabited
Description: A large(ish) island, 150 Kilometers from the mainland, 'The Island', as the SkyCaptians (Pronounced SkyCapt-'e'ans (I pronounced as long 'I')) refer to it. The natives of SkyCapt never go near it, saying something lurks in the forests and udnerbrush of the island, which many professors and enviromentalists say would account for the lack of wildlife found on recent expeditions. However, this does give a large degree of privacy.

This islands interests the Republic as a possible military base to increase our influence in far-away lands; along with establishing a nearby border with young nation of SkyCapt.

A price tag of 540,000,000 would sound reasonible.

In an attempt to further the commercial interests of the United Kingdom, His Majesty's Government would be willing to purchase these lands for cash and trade considerations. More specifically the United Kingdom would be interested in founding and developing a colony on this island, a colony that can serve as the primary link between our two peoples and our two governments. The proposal would include a port city built along the most appropriate harbour that would serve as a regional distribution hub for goods and services being sent to SkyCapt from the United Kingdom; and similarly all goods leaving SkyCapt could also be routed through this city.

With regards to the trade considerations, the United Kingdom would be willing to open itself to a limited free-trade agreement with provisions restricting the amount of goods produced by SkyCapt’s heavy manufacturing sector and shipbuilding sector. Furthermore, should any significant mineral deposits be found on the island, the UK would naturally be willing to allow some exploration and exploitation of said resources in accordance with our stringent environmental policies. The cash considerations would amount to a total of 950,000,000 Commonwealth Credits to be delivered in two payments set apart by only six months. The first payment will include the bulk of the funds in 650,000,000 while the balance will be paid off with the second payment six months later at 300,000,000.

I hope these plans and terms are found acceptable by the government of SkyCapt; and I look forward to an ongoing discourse about the development of this island.

The crown would like to see it’s influence expanded and is willing to offer five billion more than the highest bidder, up to $1,000,000,000,000.

(Consider it like an e-bay bid. And yes I do have the cash on hand and if I win I’ll offer up how I figure I do. If I don’t win the point becomes moot then does it not?)

His Majesty’s Government can raise the actual cash amount for that area of the offer upwards to 1.4 billion Commonwealth Credits at this time. We feel, however, that the discrepancy in the economic strength and value of currencies between the bidding nations ought to be looked at more strenuously as the United Kingdom maintains, according to the United Nations and other detailed economic reports, the most robust economy of those participating for this island’s purchase.

The non-cash considerations, in terms of trade with SkyCapt, offer a significant amount more than pure monetary exchange. With a population over ten times your size, the United Kingdom offers an excellent marketplace for your industries and commercial services while providing a secure and sizeable source of foreign capital for investment in the infrastructure and development of the SkyCapt economy. Although these figures are difficult to predict with any degree of accuracy, the Ministry of Trade and Industry informs me that there is the potential for billions of Credits to be made in the coming years through an open trade policy.

Also, the United Kingdom would not be wholly averse to considering some military cooperation between our two states through joint operations and support of His Majesty’s Armed Forces. In particular, some possibilities include joint military facilities on the island to secure the sovereignty of SkyCapt, joint Royal Navy and SkyCapt Navy patrols of the waters between the two islands to reduce black market trading. Of course, our militaries would need to collaborate far more extensively before anything could be set in stone.

We are interested in this island, for a military base, and a trading post for our countries. As we discussed an alliance, and decided to create embassies in our countries, it would be a good benefit for our alliance for our ownership of the island.

We offer ten billion ($10,000,000,000) credits for the island, as well as giving your country some military equipment such as tanks, fighters and weapons as an added incentive. We have a large catalogue [OOC: which I need to create] for you to choose from.

I am looking forward to your reply.

With foreign offers becoming increasingly tailored after our initial offer, His Majesty’s government feels it prudent to detail what exactly long-term benefits there are to SkyCapt if the island is purchased by the United Kingdom. Firstly, there is the cash to be paid to your government – currently at 1.4b Credits – that may be reinvested as capital into your domestic marketplaces. Regardless of your decision of where to invest your profit, several business have come forward with their petitions to begin operating in SkyCapt. This includes our premier shipbuilder Breningrad Shipyards as well as several large-cap information technology and computer firms that can bring enormous amounts of capital into SkyCapt to further develop your economy. With the most developed economy of those bidding for this island, the United Kingdom stands with the most to offer SkyCapt with our large economic, intellectual, and human capital ready to be invested in SkyCapt; which stands to make billions and to see the GDP per capita begin to increase – which increases the purchasing power of your citizenry, which fuels more economic growth, which fuels more increases in wealth, et cetera et cetera ad infinitum.

Militarily, the United Kingdom would be willing to negotiate for the sale of highly advanced weaponry to SkyCapt – with appropriate assurances of non-aggression codified in ancillary treaties – to better protect these newfound economic benefits to your nation. If required, the United Kingdom can provide training and support in addition to access to any military bases built on this island – save classified research facilities, should they be built (though they are not under consideration for this island at the moment.) In short, the nation of SkyCapt has much, much to gain from the sale of the island to His Majesty’s Government both in the immediate short-term, but most importantly, SkyCapt will have gained a friend and economic partner for the long-term – a situation that will only benefit the two parties involved.

His Majesty’s Government appreciates the rapidity with which the transaction between our two governments has been concluded, and will be dispatching an exploratory team, including Captain Toby Grey of His Majesty’s Royal Navy, Sir Andrew Probert of the House of Lords, and a team of lawyers, geographers, and surveyors who will appreciate the finer, more technical details of the island to be given by our esteemed colleagues in SkyCapt.

At the same time, once the situation on the island – yet to be named – has settled down, the United Kingdom will potentially open the new colony to limited foreign development in respect for the hard work put in by our fellow bidders. This will, however, take some appreciable time before the UK begins to make a profitable return on its investment.

We will pay 70 Billion USD (30 to SkyCapt, and 40 to Azizia) for the use of a 20x20km square of land to build Ft. Elbonia on (The Island is 39,900 km square). We need a troop deployment center so that we can deploy areound the world, and establish a Navy. There would be no sort of WMDs or Chemical Plants on the Island.
