Excitement abound this morning as Verghastinsel Armaments finally revealed their hidden project of the last two years - the Sturmgewehr 2008 Model 1 (StG08M1). The rifle was presented at the company's offices in the Verghast capital, Belsin, to a crowd of company representatives and military procurement officers from around the world. It was displayed alongside the most up-to-date information on it's partner combat system, which is still in the final stages of design.
Developed to compete with the lauded M8 Assault Rifle, the StG08 is constructed of the same high-strength fiber reinforced polymer material. Unlike the M8, the StG08 does not fire the NATO standard 5.56x45mm round. Rather, it uses the latest addition to VA's own burgeoning list of calibers, the 6.35x49mm (.25in) round. It is believed that this is more symbolic of the company's self-reliance than of a desire to improve the weapon's lethality, though the round has performed well in testing. It's increased weight and charge allows for longer range than the 5.56x45mm, which has been criticised over it's rapid loss of momentum.
Other points of interest for the StG08 include it's integral flashlight and integral 3.5x scope. The flashlight uses standard torch batteries, which can be inserted by unscrewing the head and inserting them directly into the body. The scope includes a laser targeting unit which, it is proposed, will be linked directly to the infantryman's communications uplink. This will give an individual trooper the ability to target surgical airstrikes, an asset when faced with armour. Additionally, the rifle is compatible with the current standard issue KMM2 Bayonet, though it's use is believed to be mostly cerimonial in modern warfare.
Interest was shown immediately by the representatives of the Verghastinselheer, who it is believed knew about the project before it's public release.

The Federation has shown a growing interest in this weapon model. Are there any plans for a test model to be purchaseable?

Herr Hartford,
I am glad that interest in the weapon has been generated so early, and it is my delight to inform you that I am able to allow a gift of fifty rifles to each prospective purchaser, in the hope of securing a deal at a later date.

So, I assume you've got your RP stride back, or just a weapons man for now?

Fifty rifles would be more then sufficient for our testing purposes.

The need for a new standard issued rifle has been great these last few months. Our stocks of M-16A12 (Custom) have been rapidly giving out on performance.

After the evaluation our President, Channler Hadrian, will decide if this is the course we are to take.

Cheers.
