Greetings From the Republic of Albania

Currently are government is fighting rebels, terrorists and criminals in our interior. These rebels are led by a crime-lord called Zog, and are involved with other criminal organizations in Yugoslavia and Macadonia. If they are not delt with they may establish a presence in Northern Greece, if they have not already. We are currently fighting these rebels with Yugoslavian assistence, but due to a political dispute with Russia they will be pulling their troops out in May. We cannot ask any of the Great Powers for troops because of existing tensons. However no one could object to use seeking help from another minor power.

Could Greece provide one division (10,000 troops) for stabilization/peace-keeping and fighting the rebels. They would have to be put under the command of Albanian officers (we hope you will not object to that).

We are also interested in a free trade agreement, what do you say?

I am willling to help you and your country but your commander will be under my command as well. He will be the only Albanian with any power, I will also have three sub-commanders that have veto power if he does something unjust or uncivil. This is not meant as an offence but it is just a safty thing. I do however wish to make our relations stronger but I do ask that we do it in steps.

Sincerely,
Alexander I, King of the Hellenes

Such precautions are acceptable. When can the troops be expected to arrive? The sudden departure of the Yugoslavian troops has created a vacum in our interior. And what is your countries position on the issue of free trade?

That depends on how prepared you wish them to be. I could send them with-in 48hrs but they would be very relyed on your supplies but if you give me a few days I can send them with enough previsions to keep them floating for about another week and I'll also be able to set up supply lines. Just so you know moving a divison in such a short time is costly and very hazardous. I can send 2 companies immediatly for protection of your government, but it would take them about 10hrs to be prepared for an attack. On the side note I am willing to temporarily go with free trade but once your nation is stable we will discuss tariffs and so fourth.

My nation is stable, the rebels threaten the remote areas of our country (as well as the remote areas of all Balkin countries). I request you send your troops by the end of the month (it is currently October 11th, so two weeks). You can send them by ship to Tirana, we have our own supply lines set up.

As for free trade, it would be of massive advantige to both our nations. Albania anyway does not currently have anything to tariff except cheese and other "animal products". Greek companies would make more money in Albania under a free trade agreement and their products would have lower prices (taking business from nations that still maintain tariffs, like Italy and France).

I would rather not spend money transporting them by sea when it would be much more appropreate to send them via land. Mainly its to crush any and all rebel developments near our boarder. They can be ready in 2 weeks, lets set the deployment date for September 1st. We shall do free trade until a time where we both feel as though it would be a benifit to add taxes and thariffs.

Message from the Albanian Government

With the rebels defeated and Zog dead, there is no further need for Greek troops. An immediate pull-out is however unadvisable, so there will be a gradual withdraw to be completed at the 1st of December. We thank the Greek Nation and it's King for it's assistence.

-President Fan S. Noli

Secret Part of the Message

In the Eastern European conference is it possible for Greece to support Albanian claims to territory against Yugoslavia? We wish for the regions of Kosovo, Monte-Negro and Western Macedonia to have a vote on whether to join the Albanian Republic or stay part of the Yugoslavian Superstate.

Royal Hellenic News:
March 1925, East Macedonian, West Macedonian, and Thracian provinces are put under alert by the King. With Bulgaria and Jugoslavia mounting troops on thier respective borders, Greece moves its 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Infantry Divisions (I Corps) to the border, assuming a defensive posture along the entire Jugoslavian and Bulgarian border.
Minister of War Ioannis Metaxas says he has "confidence in the Royal Army, should their service be required."
The government declares no malice or intent of war. With Bulgaria awaiting entry into the LTA, and Jugoslavia alredy part of the Pact, war in Greece's neighboring countries is feared.
"I fear that if a state of war exists between our Northern Neighbors, we will be forced into it eventually. We have no intentions of war, but simply want to be sure that if the conflict drifts South we are not caught unawares. We are still, and wish to remain neutral," King George II said in a public address. "The Ottoman's Naval base is to be left alone, and un-provoked. Our navies will steer clear of thiers. They are our benevolent neighbors."

April 1925, This month the battles in Italy cause a recall of all merchant shipping back to Hellenic National waters in the Aegean Sea. Even the Ionian Sea has been emptied of Greek Shipping.
"This Italian Conflict is worrysome. I fear that some of our ships in the Medditerranean are going to get mixed up in this conflict, and be destroyed or taken by either the LTA or Pact. This was done in the interests for safety and neutrality. Shipping will continue in the Aegean Sea," King George II said in one of his bi-monthly public addresses.
"We only have around 4 million tons of shipping. And 2 million are out and about in the Med. We may suffer slightly in economics, but new factories being commisioned will cause almost no noticable effect, I'm sure. And after all, if the tides of war envelop around our shipping, we'll be in the war, by violation of neutrality. We will not engage in warfare!" George II finished his speech.
Between the recent border tensions and now loss of international shipping, Greek citizens are becoming more and more tense as days pass. The Greek Communist party is gaining more popularity, and the revolutionary Party of Free opinion, formed early last year, is also becoming quite popular. The King has issued no statements toward any rival political parties, although an informal isolationist foreign policy has been enacted with a strict defense position ont he borders and international trade withdrawn.

OOC: Apparently, King Alexander I died between the years my
predecessor represented and I now assume. The next king was
really exiled for ten years or so, but for purposes of ease I'm
blaming on the earlier WWI and the LTA-pact tensions, he will
remain. His name is King George II. I edited my own posts since
then. I have alot of catching up to do, so bear with me on the
next few entries...they'll be long and many, more than likely.
From now on, any groups or alliances that Greece was part of
are quit; in other words, I am starting anew, so I dotn get any
surprises later on downt he road.

IC: Late in April 1925, King George II attempted to placate Communists and his own supporters by starting an election of a Prime Minister, in order to represent a large percentage of the population. By the end of the month, Minister of War Ioannis Metaxas was named Prime Minister by election for a period of 5 years (to then be up for another election) or until he is no longer needed.

Royal Hellenic News
During the end of April and the beginning of May, some members of the Greek Communist Party began staging large-scale protests to the election of fascist Ioannis Metaxas as Prime Minister. Several speeches by King George II do little to stop them, and it cummulates to the gunning down of five civilians and the attempted assassination of King George II.
Garrison troops stationed in Athens were on site at the Palace as usual, and promtly executed the gunmen in a public impromptu execution. King George II was treated for a "minor flesh wound of the leg, probably a ricocheted bullet from the gunmen," said Dr. Popoloyea, a surgeon emplyed by the king who oversaw the transportation of the King to the a local hospital.
Mainstream Communists have denounced these attacks, but nonetheless public dissent for the Communists is now growing.
"This is a scary time we live in," Karalos Papalovae, a local political activist, says. "Our once stable country is being rocked by the fascists and Communists. The King needs to get some sense about him and outlaw these extremist idealologies. Parliament wouldn't be in a position to disagree, given the circumstances."
"People fail to realise what the Party of Free Opinion is about. We differ from Communists by mainly namesake and our ideas of government. Actually, Fascism is closer to the traditional Greek Monarchy, before Parliament came about. We are one of the only fascist groups around, so give us a chance," said prominent PFO member Alexandros Korizis.

Royal Hellenic News

Ioannis Metaxas, Royal Hellenic Minister of War, leader of the right-wing Party of Free Opinion, and the newly appointed Prime Minister of Greece issued a statement yesterday:
“I visited King George II today, after being released from the hospital and called an emergency meeting of Parliament.
During the initial conference, I was ordered to stop these violent, oppressive Communists using any means nessisary.
These Communists take the wonderful ideal of socialism, and slander it, with their proclamation of a violent revolution and an oppressive ruling class! No, I say!
Do not misunderstand me. Our communist brothers to the north are doing fine, and wonderful, but these Communists here in Greece degrade the name of socialism by attacking innocent civilians and our great King!
I present to you our new plan for survival. I have been given emergency martial authority in the Royal Hellenic Empire to weed out and expose all violent Communists! All who participated in the attempted coup will be hanged!
A new day will dawn for us; we will become powerful and influential again! We will be the new Byzantine Empire! We will be the modern sons of our forefathers in Ancient Greece! We will rise! This tumultuous time we live in is over!
I am already using my new power as Prime Minister to help improve our economy. New factories are going to be ordered as soon as this batch is finished. I will raise wages in industry, and improve working conditions. I will use our military to keep us safe. I will lower taxes! The Hellenic Empire will prevail!”Many oppose the blatant and inflammatory statements, even non-communists. As the speech was occurring, the border was closed down to all out-going travel, and hundreds of Communist party members became political prisoners.
The Prime Minister has issued no changes in foreign policy or international trade, but his centralization of the government has already caused a reduction of Parliamentary Representation. Power seems to be shifting from the constitutional monarchy we all know and is becoming a counsel of the King and Prime Minister.
“The two of them are going to make the big calls now. Parliament is now only an advisory board,” pro-Parliamentary political activist Karalos Papalovae claims. “My biggest fear is that this government is going to become what it claims to fight, our loss of constitutional monarchy through extremism.”
In response to that and many other outcries, the King had this to say in an early morning address.
“Many fear that these right-wing extreme ideals will negatively influence this nation. They will not. This shift right is nothing worse than other nation’s recent shifts left. His plans seem to do everything the Communist-socialists can promise, but it lets you keep individual freedoms they cannot otherwise guarantee. Taxes are lower with his system, and we all know how the Greeks hate high taxes.
I promise that we will still regain our Parliament throughout the ordeal, and when this crisis is over the emergency powers will be revoked, so he will once again be my advisor. Everything will be back to normal again very soon.”

July 1925: During July, the last pro-Communist rally ended as the military began to round up the protesters for a night or two of detention services.
"It's not that we dont like socialism, its just that they are protesting for criminals that attempted to assassinate King George," says the Athenian Chief of Police.
On July 25th, Parliament and the King voted to end Metaxas' martial rule. Beofre the vote was tallied, Metaxas voluntariliy stepped down as a gesture of good faith and returned to his normal rule as Prime Minister as head of Parliament and Monarchial Advisor.

Aug 1925: Since Metaxas assumed control as Prime Minister, he has issued several decress, mostly dealing with revolution. During a late July confrence of the Greek Communist Party, he made an appearance stating that he did not wish any malice towards the general population of socialists, "so long as they remain limited to peaceful tactics".
He has also tried to re-amp trade outside of the country, with little success due to Parliamentary efforts against it.

December 1925 As the Orthodox Christians prepared for Christmas, a final 1925 Parliamentary convention was held. After another failed act of international trade, Ioannis Metaxas gave a final speech:
During my short term as Prime Minister, it had become apparent to me that the leaders of this nation are...inept and incompetant for leadership. Even our great King has failed us. This failure cannot go unaccounted for! As Prime Minister and Minister of War of this great nation, I declare Martial Law!!! Yes, I will rise as the leader of our once great Nation! All you politicians before me in assembly are under aresst!
As the speech ended, a panic spread through Parliament as on hand troops from the 22nd Defense Battalion arrested and bound each member of Parliament.
Ioannis Metaxas declared himself the benevolent dictator of his own Greek country, the Royal Hellenic Empire. He ripped his national pin from his suit and replaced it with one of his chooseing, one of the ancient Meandros.
As Parliament was being forced to the streets in waiting prison cars, Metaxas and his own personal guard troop went to the Palace and arrested the King George II.
Greece was once a great Empire, until we were brought down by bad leaders through time. No, I say! No! We were burned alive centuries ago, but now we will rise again like the Phoenix! In ancient times, people trembled at the sound of our name. Well, now they will tremeble again! My orders are to the 22nd Defense Battalion: round up and imprision all political adversaries. Everyone is under ym control now! EVERYONE! I will bring us from the darkness; I will give you light! I am Life, the giver of Breath! You will all come to thank me in times yet to come, as we avenge our past crimes against our foes! Ye that doubt will come to see!
Metaxas rounded up all government officials, also. Most were arrested, although some sympethyisers were releived of duty and put in his own party. Nonetheless, Metaxas was now the dictator of a new, fascist Greece.

"In a few months the factories will be finished, and our eceonomy will be double its strength by January 1927. I realize that over the past year many things have ahppened that some do not agree with. Realize, it is for your saftey. I am not evil. I am not unfair. I still maintain a just criminal justice system. In time, Greece will benifit more than you can imagine from my deeds."

-Speech by Lord Ioannis Metaxas, June 1926.

OOC: Yeah, so now he's the facists ruler. Except for the outlawing of political parties and exile/execution of political adversaries, he hasnt really dont anything unfair. My the beginning of 1926 I should finally complete mt factory and will have upped my spending points from 1 to 2.
