The Empire of Layarteb has offered to give their land claims in Antarctica, and Bjornoya quickly accepted the offer. The Layartebians gave only one condition; any scientific studies sponsored by the Bjornoyan government would be given to scientists of Layarteb before being distributed to the general public.
Three civilian research vessels, along with two armed escorts were dispatched from Archangelsk port as soon as the deal was settled. Margulis Astronomy Association, Bjornoyan National Geology Organization, and other scientific groups are already asking the Bjornoyan Government for permission to set up permanent research facilities if climate allows, but from Layarteb's reports, the land is extremely trecherous, and the climate merciless.
The Bjornian Colonial Navy is expected to complete its evaluation of the terrain, and according to the Bjornoyan Defense Minister see if there is any possibility of establishing a port or colony. It would be "an incredible accomplishment," the defense minister stated, "but if no other people are capable of it, the resilient citizens of Bjornoya will."
