A New Dawn For New Caledonia [Earth II]

[Map Used: http://www.janeresture.com/newcal/newcaledonia.jpg]

The recent crumbling of Zeeland's Empire had left her old territories relatively free, but regardless, other powers had quickly began to gobble up the land that was left, including New Caledonia. In a series of near instantanous moves, Kreynoria had built a series of bases throughout the island, allowing itself to basically incorporate it into its own empire. Unfortunately, New Caledonia's long established underground resistance would not allow these bases to flourish, and there was no way in hell in which Kreynoria would be able to fully outfit its military within New Caledonia with so much going on elsewhere. It would only be realistic that its bases in New Caledonia were underdeveloped, and the soldiers which made up the garissons badly outclassed by local militias.

Consequently, in the days following the collapse of Zeeland militia groups had been quick to occupy strategical locations throughout the island, namely the capital city of Noumea, and then Voh to the north. Within a matter of some seventy-two hours, around thirty thousand fighters had congregated in these two locations, while another twenty thousand were still spread out through the island, still poorly armed, although that was expected to change after the raids on Kreynoria's bases had begun.

The history of the resistance was a little hard to follow, and in some cases the history was a little hard to forge. It was to say, the resistance had not been built up through the years, of first French occupation, and then Zeeland's occupation. Instead, throughout the last years it had been rather minor, since there was really no actual outcry against the occupation - the fact remained that the population of New Caledonia was not indegenous, but on the contrary, stemmed from those who occupied the islands centuries ago.

Regardless, one could assume that the case was similar to that of the Boer War, where the white colonist had been fed up with the secondar occupationers, who in this case, was Zeeland, and now, once again, Kreynoria. Consequently, the armaments were not shipments, rather they were already existant between mayoral weapon stocks throughout the cities and towns, and were simply distributed to those willing to fight without real training, and immediately. And so, that's how one could explain the sudden explosion of some fifty thousand fighters ready for a war of independence within the first seventy-two hours.

However, for now, with their lack of training and real lack of ammunition, they would be forced to ponder their opening moves within the cities they occupied by default, Noumea and Voh. From there, the rebels could decide wether to simply destroy Kreynoria's occupationary garissons, or allow them to leave. The former would opt for a long war of indepedence, which most felt the locals would win, but the latter would allow for a quick, bloodless independence, allowing New Caledonia to built up to the world's scare much quicker. One could at least guess that the entire fate of the island would rest within the palms of Kreynoria, and one certainly hoped that Kreynoria made the right choice.

Nonetheless, they were ready to fight, and the time to fight would come soon. Kreynoria and Cotland were at war, and that gave them the perfect opportunity to spring up, and force Kreynoria to give up New Caledonia as a territory. Or so they hoped...

OOC: I'll give Kreynoria and/or Cotland time to respond before I go to war. OOCly I want to say to at least allow me to stay in New Caledonia, since I am interested in role playing within the Earth II community, and New Caledonia is the perfect location to begin. Thanks.

Can I get a few things straight? These military bases were established in the aftermath of Operation Dart, several RL months ago. They are fully outfitted. And Zeeeland and Kreynoria were very close allies for a long period of time. I know you want to RP in EII and understand, so maybe we could RP a joint control thing or split the island or something.

I have 3 bases on the island with 30,000 men.

There are 4 military bases in French Polynesia, 3 bases in New Caledonia, 4 in Namibia, 2 in Botswana, 1 in Equatorial Guinea, and 2 in Rwanda. Each base has a garrison consisting of a single Guardian Brigade of 10,000 troops, specially trained in defensive fighting. Each base has 10 12-inch artillery pieces, 26 6-inch guns, 400 machine gun emplacements, 30 M-163 Machbet Flak guns, 20 ZSU-23 Mobile Flak Cannons, 16 Avenger SAMs, 4 MIM-104 Patriot launchers, 64 Stingray Light Tanks, 12 M-46 field guns, 24 Predator II MBTs, 6 MLRS units, and 180 M2A3 Bradley IFV's. They have enough stockpiled supplies to last through 4 months of siege on strict rationing, in theory. The walls are reinforced concrete 14 feet wide and 20 feet high, topped with 5 feet of barbed wire. Surrounding the walls is a moat 20 feet wide and 10 feet deep, with a spiked bottom. There are automatic security systems, a labyrinth of underground tunnels and shelters, and mechanical traps that can be activated in the central control bunker, which is underground and highly protected. All rooms can be sealed with reinforced steel doors, and can be filled with poison gas on command from the central control bunker.

[OOC: Well, the island would be split horizontally, since the island is longer than it is wide, heading from north to south. Regardless, the question is, do you want to fight it out, or do you just want to assume that your government agreed to a self ruled New Caledonia in the northern section of the island? It's up to you; I'm happy either way.]

Northern Caledonia

It had been days since Northern Caledonia had been finally recognized by the Kreynorian government, but from day one, the new administration, under rebel general Tulay Pol, began moving foward towards their new destiny. The local rebels, finally consolidated into a single army, divided now into six infantry divisions, were disatisfied with the final agreement, and even most of the locals agreed that Tulay Pol should have said no to the agreement and instead fought for the entire island, but Pot knew better. He new Caledonia could be united a different day, and this day was the day Northern Caledonia would become a world power, slowly but surely.

The problem was that New Caledonia had always been dependent on France, or whoever owned France at the time, for food and finished goods, consequently, Tulay Pol's first objective was the reconstruction of Northern Caledonia into an industrialized haven, using stored funds to pay for the project, as well as free labor. Those who resented what seemed Tulay Pol's tin pot dictatorship were quickly silenced by the new Caledonian Armed Forces - those sixty thousand rebel soldiers.

It was expected that the factory complexes that would soon litter the mountains of Northern Caledonia would be finished within five years, and between that time, the sixty thousand man force would grow to a frontline personnel strength of some three hundred thousand infantry, and at least six hundred or so tanks, and much more artillery, which meant that there would be at least two million logistical personnel backing up this frontline army. It would be a huge endeavour, especially when it came to supplying said army, but within five years any force that small of size could be trained, and within eight, they would be ready for war. Indeed, the Pacific was soon to become a smaller place.

The second objective of the Tulay Pol regime, other than the army, was the beginnings of the infrastructure to support a larger population. It seemed as if Caledonia's population had multiplied by the thousands since the beginning of hell on Earth, and by the time Pol's dream was realized in the Pacific, the Empire, or what would be an empire, would house almost five million people. It was a dream that was very possible to realize, and that Pol would put all his effort into doing. But it was a dream that would take time...

With a strong military presence in southern Caledonia already, the Kreynorians set up a plan to fully industrialize the south half of the island in 10 years. Criminals in Kreynorian prisons were being taken to New Caledonia to use as cheap labor in constructing factories, power plants, low-cost housing, and shipyards. The government began encouraging Kreynorian colonists to go and settle in New Caledonia alongside the native population. Kreynoria was also wary of the Northern Caledonians, and began construction of two new army bases identical to the older ones.

[OOC: For the division, I'm assuming that it was divided at the borders of the provences with the capital cities of Poya and Ponerihouen. It is to say, those two provences are mine, and everything south of that is yours. You get out of it the better half of the island, since it's somewhat larger - it doesn't really matter to me. But the main reason I'm stating this is to make sure I don't attack land that is mine...now, these attacks isn't a conventional war, so I don't expect that you respond to that like they were. The Tulay Pol regime is going to blame it on rebel forces still acting independently, totally out of government control, although this may largely be a lie...regardless, these rebels are not acting for the government per say. So, keep that in mind when you respond.]

North of Bourail

The two thousand or so men were well armed, with old Ak-74 and Ak-47 assault rifles, as well as sporadic use of 12.7mm rapid firing machine guns, and anything else they could get their hands on. Although they might not have been regardes as weapons of the same technical calibre as more modern weapons they were in some instances better, and especially, they were more adept to the guerilla warfare in New Caledonia than some of the weaponry used by modern armies. As a consequence of that fact, the rebels never regarded themselves as an inferior fighting force to that of the Kreynorian army occupying the south.

Officially, they were on their own. Tulay Pol had neglected to arm and train those rebels to the south, and hadn't incorporated them into the new professional army. Nonetheless, they still worked for the administration of the north, and everything they did was for the benefit of Tulay Pol and the movement to reunify New Caledonia, under the official name of Caledonia. Unofficially, they were being supplied by food from the government. The program was placed udner the civilian distribution of foodstuffs program, but some of the food that went to feed those underpreviliged families of Northern Caledonia was being secretly sent to the mountain bases of the rebel soldiers.

In total there were, perhaps, ten thousand to twelve thousand soldiers working clandestinely for the Tulay Pol regime. When adding that to the thirty thousand man proffessional army force it was, indeed, a powerful fighting machine. Furthermore, in six years the Northern Caledonian army would be much too powerful to be stopped by the Kreynorian military in the area. Nonetheless, the rebel forces to the south, strategically placed by Tulay Pol, would act as weakening forces, so that during the next six years he could slowly disintigrate the Kreynorian defenses, and when the time came, he could storm south of the border and finally re-unite the island under his rule, preparing him for a huge Pacific campaign, envisioning everything around New Caledonia, and placing it under a single, unified government. Regardless, everything took baby steps first.

The two thousand freedom fighters in this particular base, north of Bourail, moved south of the border which divided New Caledonia into two, at around midnight, making their way towards Bourail under the cover of the moon. They advanced lathargically, towing by raw manpower six vintage Japanese 75mm howitzers, through the mountain passes of New Caledonia, moving parallel to the coastal highways built by the French. After some three hours of blood, sweat, and toil the rebel force found themselves two hundred meters from Bourail, looking into the city from the top of a nearby mountain.

They looked like shadows in the night, and with that advantage they placed the six howitzers as a single battery, putting them on the crest of the mountain. Kreynorian defenses would find it incredibly hard to counter battery fire on an enemy that had the advantage in height and distance. As the artillery prepared itself one thousand five hundred of the men, the rest staying behind to protect the artillery, moved down the mountain, using miniature herding paths, created by hundreds of years of moving animals up and down the hills. They did so silently, not stirring anything up, but it would not remain silent for long.

The six howitzers opened up when one of the men down the mountain let out a shrill scream, piercing the silence of the night, and six by six the howitzers unleashed old shells into Bourail, aiming for the police headquarters, and anything that had to do with the Kreynorian occupation, including military services. The artillery thundered in the background, and the shrieking of shells stirred the hairs of even the most veteran of fighters.

The men moved like lightning, covering the distance to the outskirts of Bourail within minutes, and they immediately began to invest into the city. Fortunately, the citizens of Bourail were mostly Caledonian by birth, and so the fighters had the ability to move through civilian housing rather easily, unless the Kreynorians were found to put up resistance. Regardless, anything that did resist would be killed without mercy on the spot. So, like this, the liberation of Bourail by rebel forces began.

New Caledonian Response

In the light of rebel actions in Southern Caledonia, now occupied by Kreynoria, the Tulay Pol administration has decided to stay strictly neutral, neither condoning nor promoting the rebel attacks on the Kreynorian occupation of Bourail. Furthermore, we are in no position to colaborate with the foreign occupiers, and we will graciously accept any liberated land by the rebels if they are inclined to unite it with Northern Caledonia. Nonetheless, we will not be sending our regulars down to fight, neither the Kreynorians nor the rebels. As we said before, we will remain strictly neutral.

OOC: My bases are in Noumea, Houaliou, and Bourail.

With the sound of artillery fire and the screaming of men, the raid had begun. Citizens in the city panicked and ran. An alarm was sounded at the base in Bourail. Six of the base's 12-inch guns swivelled to return fire. Unfortunately, the enemy held the higher ground, and most of the shells slammed into the mountainside, sometimes killing footsoldiers, mostly hitting nothing. A single shell crashed into a howitzer, but the rest all fell short. 1,200 of the base's troops were ready and deployed, supported by 2 Predator MBT's, 18 Stingray light tanks and 57 M2A3 Bradley IFV's. More troops were getting ready, and about 2,000 troops and 100 tanks were held in reserve. The Kreynorians had no idea what the exact number of rebel soldiers was, but they estimated no more than a few hundred strong.

Bourail

The advance into Bourail continued, although the Kreynorian base was flashing with its own battery fire, hitting positions on the hill the battery was on. A brief explosion marked the destruction of one of the artillery pieces, which probably left over six dead, and many dozens wounded. However, the rest of the Kreynorian shells landed short, hitting entrenched troops, designed to protect the battery. The rumble of battery fire, flashing both ways, spread through the city streets quickly, unsettling several of the fighters.

Nonetheless, they went on. The city had grown crazy since the Kreynorians had opened fire, and most people had boarded themselves up within their houses, or had fled to community centers, where they would protect themselves. It was creatively hectic within Bourail, setting up the perfect aura for victory - the rebels would find it hard to make their way through the crowds, but the Kreynorians would find it harder.

The rebel artillery, now down to five 75mm howitzers, had already depreciated the muzzles and had begun counter-bettery operations against Kreynorian artillery within their base and the city. The city shuddered with each landing shell, and the sounds of those screaming of pain ricochet off the moutain sides. The skies lit up with streaks of red and orange, with an occasional blue. It was beautiful, yet horrendous at the same time.

Rebel commander, Puebo L' sedan, who had once studied in the best universities of Paris, and had travelled the world under French command, looked through the city streets, scoffing. This would soon get bloody. Turning to his aide he murmured,"They reacted fast with the artillery. Their infantry and armor must be as ready as the artillery was. Prepare for one of their counter-attacks. This could get messy."

He kneeled to the ground, and put his ear on the unpaved streets of Bourail, and waited. His eyes bulged minutes later, and he got up,"They're armor is ready! Prepare the infantry for anti-armor tactics. Communicate with the artillery above. Bourail shall be ours!"

The one thousand five hundred soldiers fanned out. Most located themselves within local housing, positioning their rocket propelled grenade launchers, or any other weapons they could get their hands on, through the windows, slightly concealing themselves from passerbies below. Some five hundred stayed in the streets, prepared to lure the Kreynorian units into a trap at Bourail.

Thus, L'Sedan, the educated Caledonian French commander, had carefully preapared his trap. He left it up to the Kreynorians to see if the trap would be sprung - all they had to do was to develop their counterattack.

The artillery fire from the rebel gun position ceased, as did the Kreynorian guns. Approximately twelve dozen troops of the 78th Guards Division supported by several dozen tanks and IFV's made their way into Bourail, ready to fight the rebels. The troops carried assault rifles, machine guns, sniper rifles, and rocket launchers, in addition to knives and grenades. The base's commander, Colonel Roger Flint, called for backup. The other two bases sent a total of about 4000 troops, 20 field guns, 80 IFVs, and 50 tanks. The forces set out at top speed. In the meantime, the rest of Bourail Base was alert and ready to reinforce the forces in Bourail.

Bourail, Kreynorian Caledonia

The fighting was becoming heavy within Bourail, and finally, the Kreynorians had launched an offensive to boot the rebels from the city, albeit minor in respect to the number of men the rebels had invested Bourail with. The city lit up with small arms fire as the trap was sprung. Kreynorian infantry moving through the streets were drenched with machine gun fire, sweeping through the droves of men. The crack of assault rifles could be heard, supressed by the overwhelming noise of the machine guns, but it also existed, and it was also exerting massive amounts of pressure on the Kreynorian infantry.

On top of the hill, the artillery had switched firing patterns once again. It had ceased counter-battery operations, supressing the Kreynorian artillery, and instead turned as quickly as possible and appreciated the muzzles, starting to drill the armored columns moving towards Bourail to reinforce the city garrison. The hammer of shells pounding into the columns could be heard for kilometers all along, and the tide of explosions seen by those guarding the artillery.

All the while, inside the cacophony of gunfire continued, as rebel soldiers began to slaughter (at least in their eyes) the Kreynorian men. The wail of the wounded could almost be heard over the gunfire, just barely pushed down by the baptism of fire. Soon enough Bourail would be a blood pool, but if the rebels succeeded, they had also succeeded in the wiping out of a third of Kreynoria's forces in Southern Caledonia, making it much easier for the professional army of Northern Caledonia to finally re-unite the island, and the islands around New Caledonia.

Poya, Northern Caledonia

The lead engineer moved through the ranks of artillery lined up along the walls of the factory briskly, pointing at several aspects of the pieces as Tulay Pol listened along. The engineer picked up his voice to emphasize some facts,"The Corbulos are our newest creation. They are completely self-propelled, and they are 155mm in diameter, making them extremely potent. Do not worry sir, the Corbulos will do your army well."

Pol nodded the entire time. He thought to himself and realized that the engineer was right. The incorporation of so much new technology into his armed forces would completely upgrade Northern Caledonia's army from an ad hoc group of freedom fighters to a true, westernized, proffessional army. Regardless of the fact that the entire ground forces would hold only thirty thousand frontline personnel for the next two years, a mechanized force that strong could still do quite a bit of damage. He pondered to himself.

The engineer looked at him, waiting for a response, and Tulay Pol noticed quickly, saying,"Yes, very well. Produce five hundred pieces for the time being. Also, jot down that we should have ten thousand by the next six years."

The engineer's eyes bulged, but he wrote it all down, and then he asked,"Why, sir, do you need ten thousand?"

Tulay Pol smiled,"We will be the most powerful force in the Pacific soon enough."

The rebels had proved unexpectedly strong. Soldiers were falling by the hundred, and about two dozen of the Stingray tanks and IFVs had been knocked out by artillery fire and RPGs. Colonel Flint ordered a total deployment. All vehicles and troops except for 100 men were to enter Bourail. The Kreynorian batteries continued fire, joined by fire from a half dozen 6-inch gun emplacements and ten field guns. Meanwhile, a request was sent to Kreynorian forces in the Phillipines, requesting reinforcements. A huge assault flotilla, supported by two Ileana-Vasilli class carrier groups, set a course for Kreynorian Caledonia. A message was sent to the government of North Caledonia, assuring them that the troops were to reinforce the garrisons in Kreynorian Caledonia. 30,000 troops (2000 of them berserkers), 3,000 IFVs and APCs, 500 artillery pieces, 800 tanks (20 of them mighty ST-37K1s), 100 SAMs and Flak guns, and a supporting air armada consisting of AH-64 Apache Longbows, A-10 Thunderbolt IIs, F-22 Raptors, and B-1B Lancers.

Bourail

The messenger came by horseback from the north, gaining the attention of L'Sedan rather quickly, who briskly said,"Who are you, and what is your business with me in Bourail?"

The messenger unfolded his task just as rapidly,"I come from the north. Our great leader Tulay Pol has been warned by Kreynorian authorities that their fleet moves towards Caledonia. He wishes to inform you that you are to regress back to Northern Caledonia. Bourail cannot be captured, it will have to be left to the proffessionals once the true war begins."

L'Sedan looked away for a second and then scoffed,"And what will happen to my men when I cross the border into Northern Caledonia. Surely, Kreynoria has asked Tulay Pol not to house us."

The other man quickly responded,"Fortunately for you, no they have not. The remaining rebels are to be rounded up and trained into the proffessional army. With our failure at Bourail, it has been decided that the militias will be banned, and the proffessional army will be the only army to rule Caledonia."

L'Sedan took it all in again, and then ended the conversation with a short,"Good. May the gods be with you."

The messenger galloped away, and another of L'Sedan's informers walked up to him, shaking his shoulder to get his attention, and spraying,"The artillery has reported that they the armored columns have not been stopped. We must leave Bourail."

Indeed, although the Kreynorians had not fared well in Bourail, their reinforcements to the city would save the day. More and more artillery had begun to open up on their positions, causing quite a bit of damage - and these new batteries could not be handled by five measly howitzers. Consequently, it had already been decided that the artillery would be moved back north, and would be scrapped in order to fabricate more of the Corbolu self-propelled artillery pieces.

All the while, L'Sedan began to slowly lead his men out of Bourail, keeping up a healthy rear guard against Kreynorian probes, and within forty-five minutes the fighting at Bourail had ceased, and the men were moving back north into Northern Caledonia. Bourail had gone awry.

Encrypted Response to Cotland

Rather unfortunately, we must refuse your aid of assault rifles and carbines, as it would cause a logistical nightmare within our armed forces, which is something we want to stay away from as our small army grows into a proffessional army, and then into a rather large proffessional army. However, we will accept the eighty million in funds, if gold be them gold, if anything else, let it be, it's all accepted within Northern Caledonia.

However, since you are the first to officially recognized us as a nation, we have a business deal to conduct with you. Our primary effort is to expand the industry of Northern Caledonia, for once we have industry, we will have the means to unite the island - for we have the weaponry designs to take us that far. Consequently, we are willing to pay for prefabricated buildings, which will be converted into heavy factories, in which we can begin rolling out our armor and small arms, and perhaps even aircraft.

Please, consider our offer. Thank you for your time.

With the retreat of the rebel forces, Colonel Flint suspected a ploy and did not send his troops after the enemy. However, the artillery barrage was kept up until the enemy was out of range. A squadron of 44 AH-64 Apache Longbows followed the retreating army, tracking its movements and mercilessly firing Hydra and Hellfire rockets and chain guns into their ranks. Their main objective was to finish off the howitzers and any rebel troops they found.

Meanwhile in Bourail, the Kreynorian dead were being identified with regimental rosters, and civilians and rebels were being found. Casualties had been 158 civilians dead and 36 wounded, 847 Kreynorian dead and 677 wounded, and 583 rebel dead. The rebels had lost a howitzer to Kreynorian fire. 27 Bradley IFVs and 12 Stingray light tanks had been destroyed or damaged, and a large amount of civilian property was in ruins. Although the cost had been high, Bourail was defended and the rebels driven away. The Kreynorians took 452 rebels prisoner.

All Kreynorian forces in Caledonia were put on full alert. The element of surprise had cost them dearly in Bourail. The fleet of reinforcements had arrived, and the carriers were offshore. Aircraft swept the Kreynorian half of the island, searching for any other rebel forces. The Kreynorians also began converting a small civil airport into a military airbase. The island was put under martial law. If the rebels attacked again, they would not find it so easy.

Retreat Back to Northern Caledonia
Commander L'Sedan put his ears to the sky, sweeping the air with his fine tuned ear drums of war, and he turned to his men and murmured, "Shit." Indeed, he had dectected helicopters, although if all went according to what intelligence had on the Kreynorian military it would just be AH-64 Apache Longbows, which although advance for the current military in Northern Caledonia, would be considered second rate technology soon enough. However, the rebels had been outfitted with the brand new SA-33/FIM-100 man-portable shoulder-fired surface to air missile launcher, and ten of them kept up a rear guard in the mountains of Caledonia.

Unfortunately for those Kreynorian helicopters, mountanous terrain would prove fatal to them, as helicopters had never proved to be effective when it came to mountains and such, since the RADARs were largely ineffective when picking up ground targets, due to the angling of the mountains, and the sharp turns turned them into blind spots for the helicopters. Consequently, when those helicopters first began turning the ten men fired in synchrony, the SA-33 missiles, and soon the armor piercing explosive (APEX) would tear those helicopters to pieces.

After firing the first batch most of the men scattered with their equipment, looking for angles and such so that the helicopters wouldn't be able to target them with their deadly missiles and guns, forcing the Apache Longbows to continue their rout towards the main army, without engaging those fighters. Subsequently, they were able to reload rather quickly and they sent a second batch of ten SA-33 missiles towards the rear of the helicopters, and these missiles began seeking their targets at mach 3, making it impossible for those Apaches to run away. Moreover, the SA-33 had the unique ability for 3D vectoring, making turns at 8g, making it implausible for the Kreynorian helicopters to try to out manuever the missiles. It was a killing field.

However, there was still over half the squadron left of helicopters, and hopefully they would turn away, knowing that remaining was suicide. If they continued they would hit the main body of rebel soldiers moving towards New Caledonia, and they would kill a great deal of rebel soldiers, however it would be largely suicide for them to do so. The decision was up to them - the damage on their ranks had been done by the SA-33. Kreynoria was soon to understand the new technology that Caledonia would be able to bare on them.

OOC: Sorry about that, I've never actually been in a "real" war RP. That is an insane number of prisoners, looking back. Let's just ignore that.

IC: The remaining 23 helicopters split their formation in half. 11 continued the pursuit of the rebel army, while the other 12 turned back to retreat to base and take out some of the SAM's if possible. However, two of the retreating choppers crashed into the mountains. God had not favored them with suitable terrain. The rebels were smart, and had a surprising level of technology. The Kreynorians would have to look into how they were getting their supplies.

The Retreat
As some of the helicopters turned around to go back to base, probably to have some survivors to tell the tale of the new, strange man portable surface to air missile systems in use of percetive rebels, another eleven or so continued to make their way to harass the retreating rebel soldiers. As they popped over the corners of mountains heavy small arms fire found their mark against them, attempting to supress the helicopters before they could unleash their missiles. Fortunately, the shape of the mountains didn't lend the missiles to be extremely useful in killing mass amounts of rebels since walls of rock did well in protecting advancing soldiers from fire and debris. Consequently, only some seventy or so rebel soldiers were actually outright killed by the surviving helicopters, although there dozens more wounded - but they would see war again, they could be sure of that.

To the rear, the men who had stayed behind with their SA-33 Wraiths had moved up the corridors of the moutain to reattach themselves to their unit. Regardless, they kept their SA-33s fully loaded in case those helicopters came back again, ready to blow them out of the sky.

The rebels had shown their worth against the Kreynorian military, imagine what a professional army could do...

Voh, Northern Caledonia
[OOC: Fast fowarding a bit...]

Tulay Pol stood wide eyed at the array of machinery in front of him. He had spent exactly a year in office, but never had he imagined such an effect on New Caledonia. By now, though, Kreynoria had well reinforced its position in the southern part of the island, but with what Pol could see now, would it really matter?

Indeed, there were enough light tanks, dubbed Wolverines, to form at least ten armored divisions. It was to say, two thousand Wolverines. There were also designs for an extremely heavy tank, dubbed the BredtSvert, but all industry had diverted itself to the production of the Wolverine. There were also enough self-propelled anti-tank vehicles to man three divisions - it was to say around four hundred - dubbed Hyenas. These light vehicles would do perfectly in the fighting grounds of those islands that made up the Pacific, including the prize of Tulay Pol, Indonesia.

There were around ten thousand Corbulo guns lining the now heavily militarized border between Northern Caledonia and Kreynorian Caledonia, supplemented by at least two hundred thousand infantry, and within four weeks ten armored divisions and three anti-tank divisions. The Northern Caledonian army had grown over a period of a year by leap and bounds, and it was easily said that no one forsaw saw a vast improvement. It was a miracle, and now the Northern Caledonian army was a force to be reckoned with. At this rate, if Tulay Pol succeeded in uniting the entire South Pacific under his rule he would have an army of millions, one that would make the world shake. But he was a long way from that, and first he had to stick with the small goals in his rule - which was to kick Kreynoria out of Caledonia in general.

He was building what he called a battle fleet as well, however, the construction for that was being done in the highly industrialized Japan, to the north, and it would be a battle group to make most naval powers slobber in their awe. It would hold a single superdreadnought, named the Zealous, and what Tulay Pol had ordered his engineers to call a galleon, the Argentine, as well as five battleships and five grand carriers, with over two hundred other ships. It was a small fleet compared to the fleets of over two thousand ships, but Tulay Pol knew the perfect man to command them, and he knew that under this man's command the small battle group could defeat the largest of fleets - one only had to see.

It could be said that quickly Northern Caledonia was turning into a world class contestant...

The situation in New Caledonia was rapidly becoming terrifying. The Caledonians to the North had built up a military unnervingly fast, and the border was heavily defended in response to the thousands of tanks and self-propelled guns assembled the Northern Caledonians had arrayed on their side of the border. The Kreynorians had done their best to reinforce their half of New Caledonia, and had spent a year developing defensive positions. Yet, with the alarming success of the rebel army last year, their was general panic on what a proffesional army could do. Trenches, barbed wire fences, pillboxes and bunkers, and gun emplacements stretched the length of the border. There were also a very large number of mines, encased in wood and plastic to foil metal detectors. They also buried large amounts of scrap metal in the ground in places that weren't mined, to further confuse the Northern Caledonians' combat engineers.

Koumac, Northern Caledonia

The aerial ride from Voh to Koumac had been largely uneventful for Tulay Pol. However, after the increased boredom of watching newly raised pre-fabricated factories pump out small arms and the such he was estatic about his trip to Koumac, which would end a domestic tour, and he could return to Pouebo, the country's temporary capital, for an international flight to Tokyo, where he would see the status of his fleet. When he landed at the small airfield in Koumac the limosuine, fully armored, and then escorted, to the mountains around the city, where he could already see the results of his military programs.

New RADAR stations dotted the area around Koumac and when Tulay entered the cetral station, carved within the deep mountains of Northern Caledonia, the head engineer greated him with respect. Pol nodded and the engineer said,"Welcome to the location of Caledonia's own over-the-horizon RADAR station. With this no stealth bomber of technology lesser technology, like the B-2, will be able to get out of our RADAR."

Pol nodded again and retorted,"You are a genius."

Indeed, with this single OTH-R station Northern Caledonia had a range of over three thousand kilometers, giving them complete RADAR coverage over most of the Pacific directly around the island, marking the coastlines fully defended. With that Caledonia would be ready for any direct attack upon the island and more. Indeed, the OTH-R system rivaled the Jindalee OTH-R system of Australia in capability and range.

All Pol knew that was left was the finishing of the construction of the armor, finishing the training of the infantry, and beginning the contruction of the Caledonian airforce. Within sixteen months his fleet would come from Japan, and he would be ready to unite the Pacific. Only some sixteen months more, and it was all within his grasp.

Close satellite monitoring, infiltrating Kreynorian agents, and observation from southern Caledonia had revealed a massive military buildup and huge degree of industrialization in northern Caledonia. They were obviously plotting. Plotting to reunite Caledonia. No matter how hard the Kreynorians tried, they were always one step, sometimes several steps, behind the Northerners in industrialization and miliatization. There had been continuing raids, although none on the scale of the attack on Bourail. No matter how much damage the Kreynorian forces did, the rebels seemed to have an unlimited supply of money and material to fight with. Caledonia was becoming an expensive nuisance, a constant thorn in the side of the Empire. The Kreynorians government desided to offer the southern half of the island for $1.5 trillion. If the northerners refused, then the land would be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

The Earth's Orbit, just above the South Pacific Ocean

A Japanese satelite had been trained on New Caledonia ever sence the conflict started. The Emperor was informed constantly with new reports, and were only waiting for the oppurtune time to strike. But on which side?

The Japanese also noticed something below them sitting in Low Orbit, it was the Kreynorian satelite. The Japanese could aid the Macabees by launching an anti-satelite missle at the Kreynoria satelite but the Japanese wern't likely to do so.

The South Pacific, Japanese Naval Patrol

Admiral Yoshihama sat in his officer room, contemplating what he could do in this New Caledonian matter. The Japanese Government has lately expressed great interest in the conflict, and had ordered the Patrol Fleet to move just outside of New Caledonian waters. The Patrol Fleet was basically a medium sized assault fleet with the capabilities to mount a beach assault. Just what the men on board the several ships in the fleet. They had not seen action since the assimiliation of Eastern Indonesia, which was nearly a year or two ago. They were, in lack of better words, bored out of there frakking minds. So, perhaps, it would be a good idea to get involved in this conflict in more ways then just one. But who would they chose to aid?

Tokyo, Japan

The Emperor sat in the meeting room with his advisors for the longest time. None of said a word, all of them in a deep train of thought. Helping either side had its benefits. Kreynoria, as being a well-sized nation in terms of land, could offer more trade for the Empire. But helping a new naiton such as The Macabees would prove even better in some ways. One, it was good to help " The Underdog " when it comes to just looking at the conflict briefly, and this new nation proved to be promissing. It seemed that there Government and there People have a deeper passion than that of reuniting there island. They seemed like they wanted more. Perhaps they had a passion to become a greater nation, much like becomming an Empire. It was obvious that they wouldn't confine there selves on such a small land mass that proved to have verry little trade goods, and it was true that the current Japanese Emperor would do the same. But it all just came down to one question? Who should they help?

Inteligence Advisor - " Well, your greatness, we HAVE intercepted a secret telegram from Cotland to The Macabees. From what we have deciphered so far, it seems that they wish to aid The Macabees. And, well, Cotland IS an ally of ours. Perhaps it would not be a great idea if we were to pit our selves against them, for it would probably sever our ties to North Germania. If anything I believe we should aid The Macabees anyways. I'm sure it will help us with propoganda. "

The Propoganda Advisor, who was practically have asleep, was suddenly summoned into reality after hearing the word propoganda.

Propoganda Advisor - " Yes this is true. It will prove to other nations, and even our own people, that we favor sovereignty and independance. Kreynoria could also be used as a target for our negative propoganda, they can be a 'test' to see how well our propoganda can turn perhaps even there own people against them. I believe it is time that we step into this matter and hit the Kreynorians hard. "

The Emperor sighed, well mentally. It had been a while since they had such a conflict like this so close to home. And he saw it too, the greatness in which The Macabees could one day achieve. Helping them now would even strengthen ties and may bring much more trade to the Empire in the years to come. Besides, it was time for his reign to be recognized for something "good". Its not that he is a bad Emperor, its just that he hasn't done too much in his reign to be acknowledged for. At the same time his Grand Admiral was also pondering. He had apparently told the Japanese Patrol Fleet in the South Pacific to station it self just outside of New Caledonian waters, well at what sempt to be the mid-point or border of the two nations.

Emperor - " Okay then it seems to be decided. Our Grand Admiral Suzuki seems to have already placed our Patrol Fleet in a verry strategic position. I will be authorizing any assault to take place on Kreynorian New Caledonia, but only Kreynorian New Caledonia. If we pick up any traces of a Kreynorian fleet coming from any other Kreynorian holdings then I will authorize a full out assault on all Kreynorian lands. So, is this clear Grand Admiral? "

The Grand Admiral looked at the Emperor.

Grand Admiral - " Hai. I shall not disapoint you your greatness. I shall ensure you that we will have a grand victory against the Kreynorians. "

Emperor - " Good. Well then gentlemen, this meeting is ajourned. "

The Emperor's advisors and other personell bowed as he walked out of the room, then they exited out of a seperate door. Today will be the first day in a long time that Japan has fought in a conflict so close to there homeland, but the results would be much better than last time hoped the Government.

Japanese Patrol Fleet, outside of New Caledonian waters.

The mobolization alarm was blazing with-in all of the fleet ships. Men were rushing to there posts, pilots manning there fighters and bombers, marines preparing for beach landings, and sailors manning all anti-aircraft positions and manning turret positions. They were all exzilerated that they were finally going to see combat again. There were rumors spreading around that this would just be a walk in the park, or target practice for some of the new naval systems. In other words, the men on-board the fleet were high in morale. All proved well for the Japanese.

The bombings.

Bombers and Fighters on-board the several Aircraft Carriers were prepped and ready for take off. All they needed was the simple command, and soon they would be soaring over the skies unleashing there payload. There target was undetermined as of yet. After communique with the North Caledonian Government will they have there desired targets, or they may just attack out of surprise. Only time would tell.

OOC - Yea I know you may auction it off, but I am still here just incase.

A single Seawolf class hunter/killer submarine was positioned outside New Caledonia, keeping an eye on the situation. It was then the TB-29 towed sonar array that was being towed a kilometer behind the submarine picked up the sound of ships going in over 30 knots. According to the sonar operator, it sounded like aircraft carriers! Aware of the current situation, the Captain ordered the sub to close on the contacts and try to identify them. He felt pretty confident of himself and his boat, being at a depth of 460 meters, just under the thermal layer with only the towed sonar array over the layer, creeping forward at a patrol speed of 5 knots. The Seawolf class' tactical, or silent speed was rated to 20 knots. There was no way the foreign fleet could hear the Seawolf as she crept forward, unless of course they used active sonar, something that wasn't recommended as it painted a virtual bullseye on the ships sending out the sonar pulses.

The Seawolf was laden with weapons, with 32 Mk-48 Mod 7 ADCAPs, 12 UGM-84G Harpoons, 8 UGM-109 Tomahawks, four of the Tomahawks were configured for attacking ships, and the other four were configured for attacking targets on land, and 4 MOSSes. The MOSSes were modified Mk-48 torpedoes with their warheards removed and extra fueltanks and a recording of the powerplant of a Seawolf class sub on. When deployed, it would play the recording of the powerplant at a hundred times the strength as the real thing while circling a long way away from the sub. The fuel capacity gave it roughly a lifespan of an hour before it ended, hopefully enough for the submarine to have inflicted severe losses on the enemy. The eight torpedo tubes of the Seawolf were loaded with one of the MOSSes, three ADCAPs and two Harpoons.

It was roughly fifteen nautical miles away, and creeping closer by the minute. Visual contact with the potential enemies would be in roughly two hours. In thirty minutes, the sub would go to battlestations. The crew were in the midst of eating dinner, and the Captain didn't want the crew to go to combat on an empty stomack. After all, there were this old saying about the army marching on its stomack. True, they were in the Navy, but it still applied. A crew with food in the belly were better than a hungry crew.

In the port town of Pouébo, the cargo vessel "Julius Fusik" was arriving, carrying factory parts and gold. Accompanying the "Fusik" were ten soldiers from the Black Ops unit "Sword", operating under the cover of being guards for the gold. They were to protect the gold, and also the new embassy that the Empire wanted to establish in Northern Caledonia. If approved, an embassy staff would be dispatched via airplane in a few days.

Message to the world community

The Empire of Cotland hereby recognize the nation of Northern Caledonia as a sovereign and independent nation, both militarily, diplomatically, culturally, etc. As a result, we will establish an embassy in Northern Caledonia, and offer Northern Caledonia a helping hand in retaining that independence, whichever way Northern Caledonia requests us to do.

Regarding Southern Caledonia

The auctioning of the southern area of the island for 1.5 trillion USD seems perfectly acceptable to us, even if it does put us into debt towards our private sector. Nonetheless, the adminstration deems unification more important that monetary factors, and it's been expected that within the decade our military and civilian production would have equalized the debt so that Caledonia would regress to standard operations day to day.

To make this a bit shorter, we accept the deal, and we will be wiring the 1.5 trillion USD to the national Kreynorian bank the second the deal is officially struck. We are glad that the Kreynorians were willing to return the portion of the island without further bloodshed. A war between us both would have cost both of us massive quantities of blood.

Furthermore, we wish to inquire into a ten year renewable non-agression pact between Kreynoria and Caledonia which would state that neither of us can wage a war of agression on each other, and that we are not to intervene in third party wars if it would break the first rule. Hopefully, the Kreynorians would be as merciful to accept that. [OOC: We'll say that a ten year agression pact lasts us twenty-one days, or three weeks RL.]

Thank you for your time.
