What is the personal gear of the average rifleman in your army? [MT]

Falastinia
09-09-2005, 11:49
The Falastinian Rifleman:

Main weapon:
FN FAL Carbine [7.62 mm NATO]
Dissatisfied with the M-16 beacuse the 5.56mm cartridge lacked stopping power and soldiers requiring to fire 2-3 rounds at an enemy before he dropped during previous wars, a lot of noise was made until the Falastine High Command decided to replace all the M-16 rifles with the FAL Carbine.
Specifications:
Calibre: 7.62mm Nato
Weight: 3.7 kg
Barrel Length: 16.25"
Rate of Fire: 600-700 rpm

Grenade:
Soldiers are issued with a standard fragmenation grenade, which is a licensed copy of the British L2A2 grenade.

Load Bearing Vest:
M-1 SBO [Standard Battle Order]
A slightly modified clone of the Israeli Ephod, the vest is heavily padded to ensure maxmum comfort even with the heaviest of loads. A workhorse of the Falastinian Defense Forces for years, the vest can be easily modifed to suit the medic, scout and SAW gunner.

BDU:
No. 4 Uniform [with standard lightweight black leather combat boots]
As the terrain of Falastinia consist of both deserts and forests, it is hard to find a Distruptive Pattern of the uniform, thus the uniform is a slight dark brown colour, making the uniform unique and enabling the soldier to blend in both forest and desert conditions, and making recognisation easier to prevent friendly fire. The material is light and comfortable and reduces infared emission of the soldier.

Body Armour: 1. M-3 Tactical Helmet 2. M-1 Bulletproof Vest
The helmet is made up of 35 layers of Aramid, and 2.0 mm of titanium backing, giving superior protection than most helmets, but not sacrificing weight. Carefully designed housing in the helmet makes sure the helmet firmly stays in place when worn by the soldier. The helmet cover is made of a shredded pieces of brown cloth sewn onto a fabric helmet cover that is meant ot be loose when worn over the helmet. It is intended to break up the outline of the helmet to ensure better concealment.

The bulletproof vest is made up of 30 layers of Kevlar and with hard but light armour plates made up of boron carbide ceramic backed by an ultra hard layer of Dyneema. The SBO is worn over the bulletproof vest.

Soldiers are also issued a compass, bayonet, flashlight, 2 canteens an entrenching tool and a combat knife.

Fusiliers within the Igovian Soviet Commonwealth's Commonwealth Militia Expert Corps are typically supplied as follows:

Uniform Kit
-Based on layered clothing and providing NBC and ballistic protection and carriage of equipment
-Includes underwear, T-shirt, insulating layer of shirt and trousers, camouflage suit including pockets for insertion of elbow and knee pads and with other pockets positioned to allow access when wearing armour, snow suit, trench coat and winter trousers, winter and summer caps, boot socks, removable felt lining, half-boots, rubber boots and winter boots, leather gloves and knitted mittens, shrapnel vest, composite helmet, active-carbon midlayer and protective mask, rucksack and equipment bag, battle belt.

RK-100-7 Assault Rifle
[Click for image] (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v148/Chivtv/NS1/RK100.jpg)
-Presently being phased into service in place of the RK-95 and earlier rifles, the RK-100-7 is a bullpup rifle of native origin.
-It uses an intermediate 7x42mm cartridge and the elongated bullet contains an internal air-pocket. This results in a proper balance of close-range stopping power, penetration, and long-range accuracy. Sovietists are relatively dismissive of their old 7.62mm weapons and their neighbours' small-calibre replacements.
-Built by machining (rather than stamping) on an AK mechanism it is extremely reliable.
-It adds to the mechanism a compensating piston and weight that reduces recoil-induced muzzle climb during full automatic firing. With this, the long-barrel bullpup arrangement, intermediate air-pocketed round, and x4 magnification optical sights it is one of the most accurate service rifles in the world.
-Many minor features have been incorporated after decades of bitter experience, and one typically cited is the enlarged trigger-guard as enables firing while wearing thick winter gloves.
-The bayonet is inspired by British models and its sheath incorporates a bottle-opener and works with the blade to create a wire-cutting tool.
-The RK-100-7 can fire rifle-grenades from its muzzle, and soldiers are frequently issued with these.
-Full nightvision sights are available for certain missions and units.

Secondary Arms
-Having rifle with muzzle-grenades and bayonet, it is common for no second weapon to be carried.
-Hand-grenades are rare and lacking uniformity at this time, but may be carried by some riflemen.
-Some choose to continue carrying L-35 9x19mm automatic pistols, but most do not take advantage of this possibility.
-Soldiers are not prevented from carrying bladed weapons in addition to their bayonet, and many Beddgelens choose to do so, ever keen to take advantage of their typically large and powerful frame in close-quarter fighting wherever the opportunity presents itself.

You don't need credentials. You just say your developing guns.

CAR-15 (49th SOD)
Verghastinsel Armaments Stg '05 FELIN customized
Verghastinsel Armaments 22mm sniper. FELIN customized

Description of FELIN (Van Luxemburg version)

FELIN systems will comprise a modified weapon system, integral sensors, wearable computer, communications and display systems, advanced uniform, protection and headgear and team allocated equipment such as ODIN mini-UAV, robotic mule and commander's specific equipment. The weight of the entire FELIN system will be 29 kg, including weaponry, energy, ammunition, water and food.

Clothing
Superior resistance, comfort and stealth will enable the soldier to move faster with extra protection. The uniforms are designed for sufficient ventilation, and are fabricated from fire retardant materials, replacing current fire retardant coveralls used AFV crews. Torso protection will be improved removable modular combat jacket which will have significantly larger protection area, provided by soft, rather than hard ballistic protection plates. It will be supplemented by ceramic inserts for extra protection of critical areas, when required by the mission or threat level. The garment's structure will be modular, allowing the soldier to adjust the weight according to the mission. The suite will also be provided in a special Nuclear, Radiological, Bacteriological and Chemical protection configuration.

The Weapon System
The FELIN infantryman will use an upgraded FAMAS assault rifle or any other customizeable weapon which has been fitted with image intensifying (I2) sight and a wireless video camera that relay the sight images over wireless local network to either the torso or helmet displays, or directly to transmits them to the platoon commander or team leader. The FAMAS will be equipped with thermal weapon sights. FELIN V1 will field with four types of sights – a reflex day/night sight for the FAMAS, a day/night sight for Minimi, an improved long-range day/night (I2) sight integrated with a laser rangefinder for the PSG-1 sniper rifle and hand held imager, integrated with GPS, LRF and Digital Magnetic Compass (DMC) for commanders.

Electronics Systems

The helmet offers enhanced protection with an outer layer that contains a wide-angle day/night camera improving dismounted soldier's mobility in both day and night combat, relaying images to the helmet ocular, or thorax display unit. The soldier does not use a microphone for voice commands, but instead wears a headband with an osteo-phone. The helmet will also be equipped with passive elements for audio protection. The helmet mounted day/night microcamera will offer 50 degrees field of view. Using the standard headgear, the soldier will be able to detect a human target at 250 meters and identify it at a range of 170 meters.

The wearable computer (PEP), the hub of FELIN system is built around a high speed processor and USB 2.0 high speed, open universal port interfaces which controls the energy and links with different components, such as imaging sensors, weapon, displays, radio etc. The computer is connected to a man-machine interface enabling the soldier to control the system and carry out operations such as firing around a corner or see through obstacles.

The infantryman will use a small personal radio (RIF) transmitting voice and data communication. The RIF will be functional both in mounted or dismounted operations enabling GPS position tracking and information sharing within the squad and platoon. The communication bandwidth provided by the RIF is sufficient to pass operational graphics, imagery, maps and video sequences between team members and back to the higher echelon. They will operate with either all-in-one or sub-network architecture and interface with the fourth generation radio (PR4G) which remains the link between the dismounted platoon and the vehicles. As it is separated from the PEP computer, the radio will operate even in the event of computer breakdown. FELIN platoon will operate five networks: four will operate as RIFintra squad networks, (three infantry and one antitank squads) maintaining continuous and open "conference" between the squad members. Each RIFIntra network will also be separable into two intra-team sub-networks, allowing control of small team operations when required. At the platoon level, RIF Command network will operate, communicating between squad leaders, platoon commander, CO, snipers and the unit's armored personnel carriers.

Each section commander will be equipped with multifunction, un-cooled thermal binoculars used for day/night observation and targeting. The specialized section commanders will get portable information system terminals, (SIT), which are PDA sized digital assistants, used for tactical situation assessment. The SIT will display images, maps with overlaid symbology, and will be able to exchange encrypted messages with other commanders and higher echelons.

A typical conscript in our army has:

- 1 AR-15 Rifle w/ detachable bayonet (some have light intensification sights and laser crosshairs) (5 lbs.)
- 1 Fold-out entrenching tool (6 lbs.)
- 9 Meals, Ready to Eat (MRE, 20 lbs. total)
- 60 extra rounds of ammunition on belt in 4 magazines (10 lbs.)
- Grey "digital" uniform, like the current US Army ones they are making right now
- Steel-tipped boots, replaced once every 3 years in peacetime, once every 6 months in combat or heavy duty.
- 3 F-2 Fragmentation or Smoke grenades (15 lbs. total)
- Body armor (vest and crotch protection) (10 lbs.)

Total: 60 lbs.

Note that this is the basic load. They do not carry sleeping bags as they are taught to sleep on the ground, and they are also taught cold-weather survival techniques adapted from local custom. Gas masks and protective can be carried, but are not standard.

Note that this is only the stanard combat infantryman. We have antitank soldiers, machine gunners, medics, etc. Also note the lack of a pistol, which are reserved for officers.

OOC: My equipment is about to become famous! Yippee! *jumps in the air and clicks heels* But usually the standard infantryman carries a bit more than 60Lbs. Standard load for SkyCapt Regulars is 80-100Lbs, depending on wether the soldier is the squadron's radioman or not.

The Isrealis have a conscript army, and not only are they one of the best armies in the world, they have their conscripts march 25 miles with 60 lbs. of gear. Do you really think an average infantryman can march that far with 100 lbs?

The infantry equiptment isnt that important in my view, I think it's the officers and senior leadership that count.

Available ammunition includes Flechette antipersonnel rounds, Flares, HE, HEAP (High-Explosive Armor-Piercing), Fragmentation, Gas, and Smoke. Maximum range depends on ammunition type- typically 250 meters, somewhat less for flares, gas, and smoke. Considerably less for Flechette.

Sights: Adjustable micrometer sights and built-in IR ranging laser.

Also available as a single-shot under-barrel accessory for other weapons.

11.5 mm Incursion Machine Gun
Description: Belt fed Platoon Support weapon

Dimensions: Weight= 13.5 Kg. Length= 1.4 meters. Width= 25 cm. Typically mounted on bipod in Infantry support configuration. Can also be vehicle mounted.

Rate of fire: 250 rounds/minute. Maximum range= 2000 meters. Effective range= 1100 meters.

Incursion MGs have a composite ceramic/carbon-fiber barrel to extend barrel life and reduce heat damage. Each ammunition box includes a small bottle of pressurized nitrogen for rapid cooling of the weapon between bursts. This bottle is attached to the left side of the weapon where the ejection port is on weapons firing cased ammunition.

Fixed sights are supplemented with Hardwire Target Acquisition System. Light-enhancement, IR, and laser-designator combination attachment clips onto built-in sight rail on left side of weapon. Weapon is gyroscopically stabilized and includes muzzle brake and flash suppressor.

Uniforms
Battle Dress: One-piece coverall made of cotton/synthetic blend. Velcro closures. Integral load-bearing harness with clip-on points. Usually dark grey. Also available in environment-specific pattern-disruptive camouflage.

Undress (also called fatigues): Tunic and trousers made of cotton synthetic cloth with Velcro closures. Usually dark grey. Also available in light grey (Navy) and light blue (Aerospace Force).

Boots: Cotton-synthetic cloth uppers with Vibram soles. Velcro closures. Boots cover the ankles and go approximately 12 cm up leg. Ceramic-metal composite cap over toes.

I think the cyanide pill is a relatively bad idea, because your going to have a load of soldiers commiting suicide due to battle fatigue, and shear anxiety - it always happens in battles. I'm sorry, everyone pees in their pants when the gun goes off, it's the reality of war, and any soldier will tell you the same thing. The cyanide pill is basically allowing them to comitt suicide anytime they want, without the chance of them surviving and then having to go through a court martial and probably execution for disloyalty.

A Look at an Omzian Mechanized Infantryman

Introduction
The backbone of the Omzian Army, the mechanized infantry has long been the standard symbol of the rather small sized (when compared to others) but professional nature of the Army, representing the Omzian Army's significance as a mechanized ground force. He is an expert marksman and can painlessly handle fieldcraft work, possesses strong leadership qualities, and is trained to fight in a variety of environments and respond to multitudes of threats and evolving situations. He is also selected among a large group of recruits, many of whom may not pass the rigorous selection process, and is physically, academically, and psychologically fit. He is also the rolemodel for any and all Omzian soldiers, and places teamwork and integrity above his image as being a professional warfighter of the Omzian Army.

Gear
Unlike many other armies, the gear of an Omzian Mechanized Infantryman is quite spartan when compared to the advanced and excessively "battlesuits" of many other armies. This is a direct reflection on the Omzian Army's "Skills First, Appearance Second" philosophy, holding mobility and reliability as very important traits of any gear or equipment of an Omzian infantryman. However, the Omzian soldier uses his warfighting, fieldcraft, physical fitness, leadership, and survival skills as a quality that cannot be replaced by any battlesuit or the so-called "supersoldiers".

The garments and clothings of a standard Omzian soldier typically consists of a battle dress uniform with a digital universal camouflage system similar to the ACU, blending various designs and colours to make it compatible in both natural and urban environments around the world. With the soldier's name and the name of the Omzian Army on his chest, rank insignia on his shoulder and collar, he is easily identifiable. With his unit patch on his sides and infrared identification devices, he can easily engage in teamwork in both day and night. Beneath, a tan t-shirt and a pair of shocks paired with two large combat boots provide him with comfort. Further, an amazing array of pockets and his Standard Load Bearing System (SLOBES) allows him to carry a wide amount of gear, ammunition, and supplies. The BDU and garments also possesses several other features, allowing the soldier to be less affected by moisture and humidity while protecting him against fire as well. Under special conditions, specialized urban fighting, jungle, and mountain/cold-weather garments are available as well.

The soldier's body is protected with the standard Individual Protection Systems (IPROS), which is an armour system consisting of an extensive arrangement of various chemical fibers and inserts, protecting the soldier's head, upper neck, chest, stomach, back, shoulder, groin, upper leg, and his sides against shrapnel and light rifle rounds as well. He also wears kneecaps, a google to protect him against intense sunrays, dust, and other things harmful to the eye, and a helmet-mounted visor as well. A flexible hydration, urination, water processing, and body-cooling system allows him to hydrate himself with both water and performance-enhancing drinks that contains various nutrients. For food, both standard MREs and special "Endurance Meals" are available, along with performance-enhancing bars to add onto the ration.

Along with that, the Omzian mechanized soldier wears the Mk.IV version of the Omzian Standard Warfighting Soldier Combat System (WASC), consisting of an array of electronic equipment and other systems that will make him not only more effective on the battlefield, but more mobile and comfortable as well. Unlike many "battlesuits", it is a system of electronics that the soldier wears. The Omzian soldier is always equipped with a standard radio and digital communications system, a GPS-aided positioning and mapping system (in the form of a PDA-like handheld), a dual uplink-downlink system to link the soldier with other assets and platforms, a dual nightvision-IR goggle system, and a helmet-mounted video camera. This is all linked to a central computer system compacted into the form of a PDA-like computer system, with two colour LCD screens allowing not only the display of information, but the exchange of information among individual soldiers as well. The communication system linked to the computer can also allow the soldier to fully communicate with armoured vehicle crews and even aircrews for coordination, allowing the soldier to exchange information through both digital voice and text delivery methods, and even live video feeds as well. The computer is normally placed on the side of the soldier's torso, and it is normally controlled with a touchscreen system, though an array of sensors placed within the mouth cavity allows some flexibility in the control of the computer. This computer system is powered by a battery system, linked to an integrated recharge system, along with a backup solar battery.
Aside from the computer's LCD screens, the soldier can also optionally adopt a HUD system as well, replacing the standard visor on the helmet.

Weapons
Unlike many soldiers of other countries, it's quite common to see the Omzian mechanized infantryman to only stick with one weapon at a time. Thus, officially issued sidearm are rarely seen aside from the occasional personal revolvers and automatic pistols brought by the soldiers themselves. A standard Omzian mechanized infantryman operates the standard M20 rifle, which is based on the G45 design and utilizes a variety of composite materials in its construction, chambered in the 6.5mm Grendel round. It comes with a standard 30-round magazine or occasionally a 100-round drum magazine, and is configured to operate in single-shot, three-round burst, and full automatic modes as well - though full automatic is strongly discouraged and is very rarely used. The rifle also adopts a rail system, allowing the mounting of a low-power scope, a close-in combat sight to substitute the standard iron sight. On the bottom, a flashlight, a bayonet, an M203-like 40mm grenade launcher, or a special shotgun like system can also be used. On the sides, a variety of items can be mounted, including an Optiwand-like system for peeking around corners.

Aside from the rifle, a number of other weapons are available for those aside from riflemen. The automatic rifleman carries the M21 SAW, which is a modified version of the highly modular M21 designed as a light machine gun. The grenadier normally carries the M22 LGW, which is based on the OICW and utilizes the 25mm airburst round, though it can be substituted by the M23 Revolver-Based Grenade Launcher (RBGL/"Rebagel"), which is a 8-round revolver-based automatic grenade launcher utilizing the 40mm launched grenade. The Rocketeer carries the imported M81 Weasel LAW, which is a light anti-armour weapon than is highly versatile, and can be used against other targets such as bunkers, light-skinned vehicles, or even personnel. For special situations, a carbine rapid-fire version of the M20, termed the M20S Shortened, can also be carried for urban combat; in other situations, a sharpshooter version of the M20, termed the M20P Precision, can be carried by those seeking a sharpshooter role (note: not sniper).

Aside from these, the Omzian infantryman also carries a wide array of other items, including the M55 standard fragmentation grenade, the M56 golfball-sized mini-fragmentation grenade, WP and smoke grenades, thermite grenades, flashbangs, and even occasionally CS grenades (for riot control) as well. A standard combat knife is always carried, typically used for field craft but can also be used for close-in combat as well.

Most armies can afford about one machine-gun and one rocket launcher per section (11 men). Any more than that would be wasteful. The machine-gun provides the bulk of the unit's firepower- the rest of the men are only their to defend the machine-gunner or to do the dirty work (trench clearing, house-to-house fighting, etc.) during an assault. It takes two men to carry a machine gun, and their recoil is usually very heavy so it's impossible to stand up and run around with them like you do in Battlefield 1942. Of course, the US Navy SEALs have one machine-gunner per squad, the beefiest man in the unit, and he carries it without any help. But don't tell me that every man in your army is a commando.

IC: The average Steinbrechian soldier in the infantry is the commonplace "self propelled pop up target," so I will give two less common types.

Ultralight Infantry- 12-14 men (I haven't got that straight yet...)
Used in recon/guerilla warfare, lightly armed, powerful.
1 M16A4/A5 Assault Rifle (3 extra clips)
2 Frag grenades
4 MREs
1 16-oz Canteen
Accessory Kit 8 (most small things a soldier would need, from med kits to flashlights)
1 BDU w/Kevlar 28
(We have about 15-20 BDUs.)

Sniper team- 2 men
Insertion unit. Usually paired up into 4 man units
1st Man- Sniper
1 M40A3/M82A1 Sniper Rifle
1 M9/SOCOM pistol
Accessory Kit 4 (like 8 only bigger)
12 MREs (in a backpack w/ Kit 4)
1 16-oz canteen
1 BDU- SnipeSuit (Kevlar 32, black/dark green mostly, usually a darkened BDU)

2nd Man- Spotter
1 M4A1/A2 Light Assault Rifle
1 M9/SOCOM pistol
4-6 Frag Grenades
1 Radio
12 MREs
1 16-oz canteen
Accessory Kit 4
1 BDU- SnipeSuit or regular BDU

I'll come back with my regular ground-pounders in a minute.

They used to have a support gunner to feed the rounds in back when they had belt-fed machine guns. The problem is is that they kept getting jammed, and after about 1970 they just put magazines on machine guns. Still, machine guns are heavy, and you need two people to carry them when on the march.

OOC:Actually, the SAW, RPK-74 and other modern light machine guns are really light(hence the name Light Machine Gun). They are DESIGNED to be manned, operated, and reloaded by one person. The PKM and M-60 are Medium Machine Guns or General Purpose Machine Guns. Although they CAN be operated by one person, two people generally ensures a better firing rate. Then there are the tripod or vehicle mounted Heavy Machine Guns, such as the M-2 or DsHK .50 caliber guns. These guns must be operated on a vehicle or a tripod and it is generally a good idea to add a second person to man it.

The regular infantryman of Steinbrech carries following:

1 M16A4/A5 rifle, 5 clips extra
1 M9 9mm Pistol, 2 extra clips
1 hand held radio to communicate w/ squad members
Accessory pack 2 (includes pack 4 plus several MREs and a canteen, all in a backpack)
6 Frag Grenades
1 BDU w/ Kevlar 32 body armor
Every member of a 10-man infantry squad carries this, even machine gunners. Infantry squads also carry an M60 machine gunner w/ 2 300-round belts (lightened), an ammunition carrier, with several extra clips, belts, and 2 M203 grenade launchers with 6 grenades.

I just wanted to make a 4-man unit with the MP5 and P90 as their primary weapons, this is kinda on the spot.
1 MP5N/K or P90
1 SOCOM or Five-seveN
3 Frag grenades
Ac. pack 2
1 SnipeSuit BDU (this is an assassin squad)

While I can't speak for every army, a canadian army section has 8 people, and has four riflemen, two grenadiers, two machine gunners. A couple of the riflemen also carry SHRAW lights, so the firepower of an individual section is comprised of:

6x C7 rifles (each rifle mounts either an elcan 3.4x sight, kite night sight, or EOTech CQB sight), two of which mount M203s
2x C9 light machine guns
2x or more SHRAW lights (LAWs)

At the platoon level, the platoon has at least 1 mortar, 1 84mm recoiless rifle, 2x C6 GPMGs, possibly snipers or additional heavy weapons attached as needed to the platoon.

Now at the company level, I'm only a reservist, and I only got off my basic a few weeks ago, but at exercise stalwart guardian, my company had two assault platoons loaded with M203s, LAWs, minimum 2 C6s. Keep in mind, canadian reserves get the shaft for kit and weapons. I was in the support section of the third platoon, which was the support platoon. My section had 4 C6 GPMGs, which can be hauled (with ammo) and operated by a single person, and they don't have to be big either, trust me, I know from experience. Of course, the standard is two people, one carries the gun, and depending on the gunner, the spare barrel or cleaning kit, while the number 2 carries most of the ammo (the gunner will generally have a belt of 220 rounds on them). The other two sections were the recce det, which was never with us as they were always out and about doing their recce thing, and the assault section, which had a single light machine gun, and a bunch of M203s, one or two LAWs per person, and a couple Carl Gs (84mm recoiless rifle).

A mechanized unit will also have the added firepower of a trio of LAVs, each armed with a 25mm cannon, a pair of machine guns, and two banks of 4 76mm grenade launchers.

Also, canadian troops serving overseas all have tactical lights, sidearms (or at least the PPCLI in afghanistan tried to get every soldier one), lasers, lights, NVGs, and other goodies. Oh, and everyone has four frags.

Athiesism: Machine guns are still belt fed, at least those used by Canada and America. And there carried by one guy, I can see a .50 cal being carried by two people, but then again .50 cals are mounted on vehicles. One person can carry a GPMG, not to hard, in fact only one person carries it. When we were learning it on our basic we had like 15 for our platoon and so we had fifteen people carrying it by themselves, along iwth spare barrel and cleaning kits. Same goes for out in teh field on exercise.

As for magazines, I don't know to much about other countries machine guns, but as far as I know, America, Canada, Russia, and any country using FN machine guns (like the C6, can't remember its american designation or its proper FN designation) have belt fed weapons. The C9 light machine gun (again, FN design) is both belt or magazine fed,but the magazine is horrific and even if you run out of belt ammo, and only have magazines, I suggest grabbing a rifle and switching it to auto, it'll work a thousand times better. The mag feed jams like a mother, I mean every other round, literally, we didn't get double feeds, we got quadrupule feeds with that thing.

I forgot to add the 5-oz. canteen. I think that we still leave out a lot of stuff a real army would need to survive. The MREs, at least in the US Army, carry a lot of stuff, like napkins, chewing gum, and matches. Still, there's more stuff were missing.

That's crazy. They get kevlar body armor but a bolt-action rifle.

They're meat shield troops, however, I do want them to be able to do some damage whilst alive. So, give them armour to keep them alive longer.
The Candrian Empire

The average loadout of a Dominion infantryman:

Standard Loadout

1: CIRAMIX Composite Bodyarmor (12 kg, soon to be phased out with as-yet undesignated composite bodyarmor)

1: IHS3 Ballistic Helmet + HUD Visor (2.4 kg, includes SaBOCAD transmitter/reciever/decoder chipset)

1: C1A2 [A Kazakh P1 derivative] Semiautomatic 9mm sidearm (.74kg, to be phased out with concept SOC PDW sidearm)

1: C2A3 [A Kazakh P2 derivative] 6.62mm Automatic Rifle (3.12 kg, to be phased out with SOC Multirole Rifle)

1: BI2B Affixable Bayonet (.1 kg)

3: CC3 15 round 9mm*19mm DCR clips (.32 kg)

4: C2C3 30 round 6.62mm*57mm DCR clips (.51 kg)

1: M2Cx 10-pocket Loadout jacket(2.41 kg, x denotes camoflauge scheme)

1: ICSx 6 pocket all-weather pants(3.31 kg)

3: MIU undergarments (.83 kg)

2: BISC2 All-Weather Tightfit sock [pair] (.03 kg)

1: BI1C4 All-Weather Composite Boot [pair](1.5 kg)

4-6: TDFG [Time-delay Fragmentation grenade] (1.3 kg)

1: 500 mL survival canteen (.67 kg)

1: ISSK multiblade foldable tool (.37 kg, basically a standardized swiss-army knife)

4: Field Meal package (.21 kg, similar to MREs)

2: 60 ml Lighter (.07 kg)

1: C7x Deployable Tent ( 8 kg, one man all-weather tent.)

I think that's about it. The standard Candrian soldier carries just under 40 kg of kit, total. They usually put most of it on one of the two loudout MAP 11's. Despite carrying 80+ lbs of kit, they can take it. The physical training is some of the most intense in the world, and they usually hold fortified positions, so they don't often move with all that crap on them.

Either way, by the time I implement SOC weapons, that wieght will drop, since SOC guns don't need any structure metal at all in their construction.

I keep trying to draw out the infantry, but it never looks quite like what I want.

I know some of that stuff is still way too heavy, if anyone wishes to enlighten me on which, I'd really appreciate it.

OOC: Candrian, with regards to weight, you don't need a 28 pound tent, unless its some sort of mini hotel. I don't think I've ever seen an actual tent that weighs 28 pounds and I've gone camping quite a bit. All a soldier needs its a utility sheet, and some bungee cords. Lightweight, small, works great. Zip up multiple sheets for multiple people.

The basic infantry load looks something like what is listed below. Rather simplistic, I know, but it's still everything a soldier needs to perform reasonably well on the battlefield. Also, I realize I use police body armor and civilian night vision equipment. That's because Novikov imports that equipment rather than divert the massive amounts of funds needed to develop those systems and put them into indigenous production.

m1982 under trousers - a pair of trousers worn under the main to provide warmth and comfort.

m1984 reversible over trousers - worn over the under trousers to provide a protective cover and camoflage.

Laced high boots - same as the current russian "garsing" boots.

1943 greatcoat - used as a coat in snow and rain, also used to sleep on as no sleeping bag is issued as standard.

Ushanka - its a furry hat ofr the cold weather

Equipment

folding shovel
belt/Y braces
shovel cover
water bottle - 2 l and steel cup
ammo pouches
gas mask/bag
mess tin/ bag
breadbag
rifle sling
helmet cover
bayonet/ knife pouch
tent cover

Extra - for officers and specialists
Radio
binos

Weapons
K-ac - Krob Automatic Carbine, looks like a rifle, fires like an assault rifle. also avaliable in semi-auto rifle version.
knife/bayonet - its a sharp thing about 9 inches long

Dg-3 - a short stick grenade similar to, although not based on, the RGD-33

thats the standard infantrymen of the krob army. theres more types than the equipment listed here but this isnt my thread to label my entire military in.

Although there are two main types of soldier - light and heavy, the one listed here is a heavy soldier.

Noddestan
10-09-2005, 14:43
The Noddestani army is 90% conscripts, 10% career soldiers. Conscripts are drawn from the entire Noddestan population as every citizen must complete three years compulsory military service at age 18, (I find this makes them more law abiding when they leave). The Noddestani Untermensch make up the majority of the career soldiers as it's just about the best wage an Untermensch can get. The rest of the career soldiers are Mensch with the officers being taken from the elite Ubermensch.

Kit varies between soldiers according to class and rank. Officers for example have the best equipment and are always fully equipped whilst the lowliest private has to make do with whatever he can get. The average infantryman private however carries the following:

Beret (black).
Generic camoflague fatigues, (forest print).
Boots (black).

KA-74 Assault Rifle

and that's it.
Stevid
10-09-2005, 15:16
Standard Issue within the Stevid army is different between regiments, the regiments are given the choice to remain with the standard army weaponary or apply for a regimental status that enables the regiment to have war gear which is different to other regiments.

Weaponary

SA-80 Assualt riffle or FA-MAS Assualt riffle
(Five magazines for whichever weapon and optional bayonet for the SA-80)
45mm. USP handgun
(Three magazines and optional supresser)
Two WP anti-personel grenades
Two Standard Fagmentation grenades
Combat Knife

Equipment and Uniform

Radio and Headset

Camoflage: Stevid has many lush forests, the only sand in Stevid is on the beaches, so Stevid Armed ground forces have Moss camoflage and woodland camoflage as standard issue. New camoflage is issued and distrabuted amoungst the forces depending on where they are being sent to fight.

Splitter: City fight terrain
Jet black or Fire Patterened camo (A popular camo): Shock troop
Tiger Stripe: Used mainly in dense woodland areas
Dessert: Mountainous terrain and dessert terrain
Snow: Sometimes used in storming buildings with a known white interrior but almost always used in a snowy climate
Olive Drab: Standard Issue camo, often seen by the local Stevid Population
Moss: The the main overseas temerpate camo Stevid soliders, it is an excellent camoflage in grassy terrains and forest terrains, it is an all round agricultral camoflage
Water: On old Nazi German pattern, used by forces that have to conceal themselves amoungst a water background
DPM: UK based forest Camo (Used a lot in scattered Woodland taerrain)
AUSCAM Desert: Austrailian Dessert camoflage, decent white background but not comonaly used

Combat Helmet
TTR/4 Bulletproof vest

Backpack: Carrys the usual stuff, canteen, medical supplies, tent e.t.c.

All the above is the basic military equipment used all over Stevid; and the army is trained in the use of that equipment and the use of different camoflage in any possible environment, it is one of the most proffesional armies in the world today and the government makes sure that the standard equipment that the army's infantry personel needs is supplied.

Maximum Effective Range (Area Effect): 1800 Meters
Cost to the Government of Schultaria Prime: $425 per Weapon

Methodology:

After spending hundreds of millions of dollars and countless decades utilizing foreign-built weaponry, the Schultarian Government had finally concluded that in order to secure national interests, legislation would have to be passed to force Schultarian design firms to cater to local defensive interests. Following the stipulations laid forth by the SKC Standardization and Upgrades Act (SDC 102), a landmark decision passed by the National Assembly some fourteen years ago, Schultarian researchers had to design, field test, and successfully distribute a new series of battlefield rifles to the Schultarian Defense Forces within the space of under three years. What resulted were the first prototypes of the now venerable "Long Arm" (Brachianla) line, much to the chagrin of many experienced soldiers who had grown accustomed to the general design and form fitting function of Nimzonian and Granzian weaponry. Where the "Long Arm: was lacking in beauty, it exceeded all expectations in terms of reliability and battlefield operation for the Grovon Testing Board of SDC 105.

Following the maxim of Kalashnikov, the weapon's main functions are ease of use, mechanical simplicity, physical ruggedness, and overall successful utility but in a much different package compared to other rifles of the same class. Rather than basing the weapon on complex construction or highly time consuming manufacturing processes involved with the construction of normal assault weapons, Designwerks researchers instead adopted the basic chassis of the Sten gun. Adopting one of the most straightforward designs of all modern automatic weaponry, the weapon is designed not only to be built specifically for field repair, it can also withstand unusually high tolerances with ammunition of varying condition and size within the same caliber ratio. Although the cartridge utilized by the weapon is the unusually long 7.62 x 60 mm Schultarian cartridge, it can use virtually all types and lengths of 7.62 Soviet and NATO standards with predictable fluctuations in weapon controllability.

The main problem with the weapon is the limited amount of physical hardpoints and rail mounts for the addition of various underpinned weapons such as portable anti personnel grenade launchers or bayonet attachments. While the concern has been addressed both initially by the SDC 105 review board and in subsequent combat test referrals since then, the SKC has maintained an overall satisfactory grade on the weapon's performance marks in live fire testing and simulated full combat stress tests.

Function Description:

Based off the design principles of the self-guided Hornet class of Wide Area Munitions, the Kerga-Salnex has adopted the most reliable forms of Schultarian battlefield technology to date. From the fruits of countless prototypes, the SKC has developed a mine which has the capability of not only terminating enemy threats from a considerable distance away, but has the ability to be self terminated and selective in it's targeting procedures (placing the potential for civilian tragedy at an absolute minimum).

Once the on board sensor package has detected and identified a target to be of non-friendly intention, the petals that compose the support base fold in such a manner as to direct the mine towards the target within a variance of (+/-) 1.5 degrees of direction depending on wind conditions. Armed, the payload component of the mine is propelled in a ballistic arc towards its intended target using a propulsion apparatus similar to the rocket motors found on an average Soviet make RPG - 7. Using a combination of proximity fusing, active infrared targeting, and detonation timing, the shaped payload charge will detonate anywhere from one to five meters overhead of the target, exploiting the weaknesses of areas of high heat (such as engine compartments or fire control surfaces).

With an unusual proficiency for mobility kills, this mine has shown a battlefield effectiveness of 87% for direct tank hits in full scale battlefield testing. Of the actual impacts on the armored vehicles utilized in our most recent SKC tests, 55% of the successful detonations resulted in a loss of mobility, 45% destroyed the vehicles outright, and the remaining 5% damaged (but did not seriously impair) the tanks they engaged.

OCC: blah, 14 lb pants, I screwed up big time. They are supposed to be bulletresistant to small arms and shrapnel, but 14 lbs is a bit much. I'll change that. Same with the tent... although it is supposed to be too heavy, with fireproofing, and added kevlar/ballistic nylon padding to resist against small arms and shrapnel as well. Not that most infantry carry it anyways, they usually leave it on their loadbearing IFV.

So the jacket, pants, and tent = lighter.

Lunatic Retard Robots
11-09-2005, 04:44
The average Robotstani rifleman can be equipped with just about anything, but looks more or less like a British or British Commonwealth infantrymen during the 1950s most likely.

Regular Service Kit, Robotic Army

The average Robotic army rifleman spends most of his time in the gloomy and harsh climate of the Robotic archipelago, where at best it is rainy and wet and at worst it is fifty below. The temperature rarely rises above 50 degrees F, even in the summer, so emphasis is placed first and foremost on warmth and secondly on water resistance. The standard 1950-pattern infantry uniform consists of cotton undertrousers and undershirt, olive-drab serge shirt and wool-lined trousers, a Denison Smock and a pair of slightly longer than ankle-length boots complimented by gaiters. A leather jerkin is not at all an uncommon sight, and a waterproof smock and trousers can be worn over the kit sans Denison smock.

A heavy wool parka and wool-lined water-resistant trousers, as well as high insluated boots, are issued to infantrymen stationed in subarctic and arctic zones, along with mittens and an insulated sleeping bag.

Wool caps are usually worn, although berets are not uncommon. The Mk. 3 or Mk. 4 steel helmets are standard for both infantry and marines.

The standard webbing system is the British 1944-pattern, with two large chest ammunition pouches, an entrenching tool pouch, water bottle carrier, bayonet frog, and pack. The pack is often omitted and there is often more than one water bottle. Ammunition is commonly stored in slings as well as the chest pouches for additional capacity.

Standard issue rifle is the Type 4 Mk.5 bolt-action rifle, a copy of the .303 Lee-Enfield No.4. The Lee-Enfield rifles are accurate, reliable, and effective, but some units, particularly commandos, have opted for the Kalashnikov or FN-FAL and the higher rate of fire that comes with it, as their missions usually do not require a great deal of range as much as volume of fire. The Webley double-action revolver is the standard-issue sidearm, favored for its good stopping power and ruggedness, but the Browning hi-power is more common.

The 9mm Owen Machine Carbine is the Robotstani Army's standard issue submachine gun. Its reliability, robustness, and tolerance to extremely poor environmental conditions make it a favorite, and despite its awkward-looking appearance it has given sterling service with the Army, Navy, and Marines since the 1940s. The larger Lanchester is also a common weapon. Although it is much more expensive to manufacture than the Owen, due to its somewhat higher quality, it is a favorite of the marines and navy especially due to its high rate of fire and large 50-round magazine, which make it ideal for boarding actions and other marines' responsibilities.

The .303 Bren light machine gun completes the list of standard-issue infantryman's weapons. It is regarded as a superb weapon, one of the best LMGs of all time, and is used very heavily by the Robotstani Army and Marines. While the use of a 30-round magazine as opposed to a belt limits the weapon's effectiveness in the sustained fire role, the Bren is significantly lighter than belt-fed models and can therefore be operated by a single trooper only (although a second trooper is usually assigned the task of loader to make the changing of magazines go quicker). Each eight-man infantry section is issued with a Bren gun, and commando sections can routinely be found with three or four of them.

While officially classified as a support rather than an infantry weapon, the spigot-type Projector Infantry Anti-Tank (PIAT) is deployed with at least several on the platoon level. The PIAT is generally considered useful if handicapped, being heavy and possessing quite limited range in the anti-tank role. The PIAT can, on paper, hit a tank at 100m if properly aimed by the gunner, but is almost always used at much shorter ranges. The insignificant backblast makes the PIAT extremely useful in urban or forest settings where a weapon like the Bazooka or Panzerfaust would be dangerous to the operator. Though the 3lb HEAT round is insufficient to penetrate the frontal armor of modern heavy tanks, it can cleanly cut through light tanks.

A drawing of a typically-outfitted Robotstani infantryman.

Tropical Service Kit, Robotstani Army

While the tropics is not where the Robotstani Army expects to be fighting terribly often, marines in particular are trained for action in jungle and desert environs.

The standard tropical (desert) uniform consists of, in addition to cotton undergarments, a cotton short-sleeve serge shirt and khaki shorts with ankle-length canvas shoes and puttees. A broad-brimmed slouch hat would usually be worn in this case, along with the Mk.3 steel helmet respectively. As the desert retains very little heat, troopers often wear long pants and sleeves for protection against the night-time cold, or adapt the local patterns of dress and add the appropriate insignias.

The standard tropical (jungle) uniform consists of, in addition to cotton undergarments, a light cotton serge shirt with easily foldable sleeves and light cotton trousers. A pair of canvas boots with gaiters provide a sturdy, yet breathable and light, source of footwear and a broad-brimmed slouch hat is normally worn in place of a helmet due to the hot and humid climate. As the ranges encountered in jungle warfare are quite short, the average Robotstani infantryman would likely carry the Owen or Lanchester in place of the Lee-Enfield, and shotguns are also not at all uncommon.
Potty 5
11-09-2005, 06:48
(OoC: I have yet to decide on much of the equipment but I have decided on some. You may notice things like BDUs are not listed as I have yet to decide on the specific load out of the standard army grunt)
Archmage Imperial Defense Industries, a government run company, is the primary supplier of military gear for the nation of Potty 5. Prior to the setting up of AIDI the military used equipment supplied by communist in the early days of the cold war (Russian equipment… we are communists) and more recently DMG Military Industries.

Primary: AIDI G12 (this is a variant of the HK G11). Some troops carry an LSW version designated AIDI G12H (longer heavier barrel +bipod). There is a squad level support weapon as well (similar to the HK LMG11) designated AIDI MG12. All of these weapons fire a 4.8 x 35mm caseless round. Non combat troops may carry a AIDI MP8 PDW (Similar to the MP7 but retaining some of the features of the G11 PDW). Spec Ops troops can carry virtually any weapon imagined but generally use a G12H, MG12, or MP8

Backup: AIDI P48 (this is a variant of the HK P46) though some troops may carry an AIDI MP8 instead. Both weapons are chambered for 4.8 x 27mm Caseless. There is also a special forces version of the P48 designated P48 Mod 0 that has a longer barrel threaded to accept suppressors (“Silencers”).

Removed from service: The HK MP7/473 (made by DMG) is now in police service, rechambered, and designated MP7/473-48. Limited numbers (50,000) and no replacements mean that this will eventually disappear from service.

Old Prototypes: HK MP7 Caseless (made by DMG) only 20 made. Never put into full production led to the MP7/473.

The Militia and Police often are armed with older weapons such as the HK32 (a 7.62 x 39mm) but recently do to huge budget increase for the Police they have recently gained access to a number of weapons including the AIDI G36/9C (A modified HK G36C that fires the 9 x 39mm Russian round) and AIDI G36/6C (A modified HK G36C that fires the 6.5mm Grendel)

Standard Camouflage Pattern currently is the Digital ‘Amoeba-Stair Step’ (Look at 1948 Soviet Hybrid ‘Amoeba-Stair Step’ and the new US MARPAT patterns)

Future plans: Remove all MP7/473-48 from any service and replace them with MP48.

OOC: Dang, I am probably going to post most of my guys here, aren't I?
Most of our weapons are American, but mostly the ones behind the slashes are our own design. (We know what we're doing)

IC: We, oddly enough, can't find any Colt products in storefronts to supply our Colt Infantry. Kinda sucks, doesn't it?

Khentara
24-09-2005, 23:59
I would like to make it known that the illustrious revolutionary president of Khentara has just decreed that henceforth the military and police shall be combined, and shall take on the duties of national defense and peacetime policing. Until further weapons systems are developed, The military of Khentara will be issued with Sig 550 assault rifles(designated AR5-0). Special forces units may also use the shorted 552 carbines (Designated AR5-2C). For both close quarters combat purposed, as well as for personal defense, every soldier will be issued with a Berreta m93r(Designated mp4s), manufactured under license from Beretta. In addition, tank crews and certain urban assault groups will be issued with FN P-90s (mp5L). Heavy assault units will carry either the Vector SS-77 or the SS-mini, (designated MG9 and MG9s respectively). Snipers will be issued Blaser 93 rifles (designated SR3) in the 7.62nato chambering. Certain snipers will be issued Truvelo .50 (SR5H) rifles for anti vehicle use and ordinence disposal.

This will allow for great flexibility within the armed forces by standardising weapon ammuniton types and simplifying mantinence procedures.
