The Triumphant Return

Following a period of several decades when Unum Veritas was mysteriously absent from international affairs, High Chancellor McDonald is expected to announce the reemergence of the Naval Empire onto the world stage.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, people of the world, I am pleased to announce that the Naval Empire of Unum Veritas is once again returning to the great game of international affairs. During the past few decades of seclusion we've completely modernized our fleet and various bases around the world. Much of our older technology was scrapped in favor of brand new, and vastly improved, hardware.

Our fleet has grown a bit in size as well, although this should not be seen as a threat by any other nation. In addition, in the next few weeks you will witness greatly increased operations by the Imperial Navy. Let me assure you that this change in pace is not an aggressive action at all, but rather an effort on the part of our Ministry of Defence to surge the various battle groups out to sea and back to their various bases of operation.

The Atlantic and Pacific Command Bases will also increase their activities. The skeleton crew will be replaced by a full compliment of officers and enlisted personnel in anticipation of the arrival of the fleets based at each center.

Sadly, the Veritasean Naval Store will not reopen for public sale. We've decided it is in our best interest, at least for the time being, to restrict arms sales to domestic buyers only.

To our allies of old, I would like to reextend the hand of friendship. To enemies of old, we stand as resolved as ever. And to new countries we have not yet encountered, we offer peace with resolve to you.

Thank you, and goodnight."

The United Kingdom would like to take this opportunity to accept your offer of “peace with resolve” and to open diplomatic relations with the Naval Empire. As an archipelago state, the United Kingdom fully recognizes the importance of naval strength, and the perilous fragility that accompanies the use of Poseidon’s own. On the behalf of His Majesty Michael I and Prime Minister Alistair Tetley, I offer an exchange of embassies between our two great nations so as our two nations can grow stronger together.

In our capital city of Imperium, the new Diplomatic Quarter is being prepared and we offer you a choice location at 2202 Marlton Street that has no structures, but simply open land. We invite you to build an embassy in our capital – an embassy that remains outside the sovereignty of the UK.

With the hope that this first contacts yields a fruitful friendship,

We are quite interested in taking you up on your offer of an embassy. Architects will depart immediately with building plans.

You are more than welcome to build an embassy within UV as well. Feel free to send over whatever officials you need at your own leisure.

In other news:
The government of Unum Veritas lost a key court decision today. Veritasean Naval Industries, Inc., the nation's leading arms exporter, challenged the government's law against the sale of military related equipment to foreign powers. The High Court agreed, stating that "Laws restricting free enterprise are very plainly in violation of the constitution and can lead only to authoritarian states."
This decision cannot be appealed any further by the government of the Naval Empire and so Veritasean Naval Industries, Inc. has already begun exporting declassified arms once again.

The Atlantic and Pacific Command Bases have both been returned to full operating tempo. The first fleets have arrived at each base and have once again begun standard patrols.

Within the coming weeks Veritasean naval vessels will be conducting various personnel work-up drills. These drills are not designed to appear aggressive in nature and should be disregarded by any concerned nation.

The United Kingdom appreciates the hospitality offered by the government of Unum Veritas, and is dispatching with haste His Excellency Sir Brian Talbot along with a team of 70 diplomatic staff and 35 security personnel. In addition to this exchange of embassies, regarding your statements on the Organization of Maritime Powers, His Majesty’s Government would like to request more information on applying to admittance to the organization as we currently sport good relations with a few members of the alliance. However, having recently been bloodied in a naval war - as much as our Admiralty may prefer to phrase it differently - our nation is temporarily susceptible to a concerted naval effort should such an enemy arise. It is the opinion of the Prime Minister that admittance to the OMP will provide short-term security to the United Kingdom as well as long-term economic benefits to a post-industrial powerhouse that can provide both markets and supplies to fellow maritime powers. Either way, we await your response.
