Nuevo Laredo denounces Xeraph, Black Shadows!

Nuevo Laredo
05-09-2005, 00:37
Formal announcement from the government of Nuevo Laredo:

" We do hereby formally denounce the nations of Xeraph and Black Shadows for their intrusion into Nueva Laredo's internal policies.
We issued a statement concerning Xeraphs build-up in their annexed region of Ag-Chthlu, and they responded in a somewhat hostile manner. In addition, their Emperor has ordered a fleet of naval ships to the waters off our coast.

As we are a small nation, we cannot defend nor protect ourselves from nations such as these. We ask the nations of the world to monitor this situation. We may need some help should we be attacked."

Vice-Admiral Menendez, Royal Laredan Navy

We will watch the situation carefully. Though if it was their will for you to be destroyed, my nation could not hope to stand up to theirs. In the meantime might I suggest signing up for some joint military excercises/war games here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=442244). It may improve your relations with enough nations to give you some form of protection.

People of Krendakov,
I thank you for our offer. At this time, we cannot afford to send any of our troops for war games. If Black Shadows should be ordered to attack, we will need all of our present resources to defend ourselves.

Remember, all you would need to send is one man, not much of a loss for the gain it would bring. If you would like we can probably spare a couple of Oscar-class submarines that could be sent to the area.

To the people and government of Nuevo Laredo:

We recognise that you have the right to voice concern over things that might interfere with your way of life. We, on the other hand, recognise OUR right to patrol international waters if we deem it necessary. Our ships are just beyond the limit of your territorial waters. As we advised you before....mind your own business.

Xeraph,

We have had about enough of your insults. Our position is this: remove your ships from our territorial waters, or risk losing them. And be advised that we are monitoring your new military base. One wrong move out of that area towards us and we will defend ourselves.

International waters are international waters, if the nation of Xeraph, our nation even, or any other wishes to put ships in them you have no say in the matter. They are international waters not Nuevo Laredon waters.

The King of Auralinia wants to voice concern about the possible escalation of the situation.
Apparently, Nuevo Laredo is over-reacting. While we will admit that they have the right to voice concern as regards anything that they may consider a threat to their national security, to call for the nations of the world to monitor another nation or nations simply based on a latent fear of aggression is uncalled for. Neither Xeraph nor Black Shadows has made any obvious or overt move to instigate hostilities against Nuevo Laredo. Nuevo Laredo is, in our opinion, attempting to create a situation where none exists.
If Nuevo Laredo and/or any possible future allies think they need to attack either Xeraph or Black Shadows, Auralinia will be obliged to aid their allies.

Attention Black Shadows!

It has come to our attention that your naval ships have crossed our ocean border. We consider this an act of war. We are sending a fleet of our navy to defend us against your aggression. Our regional ally, Tehatchapi, will be joining us.

" Admiral.....unidentified ships on radar!"
Clemmons glanced at the screen. " OK people! Possible hostiles sighted! All hands to stations!"
The subs fanned out to flank the intruders. Aboard the carrier FALCON, pilots scrambled their Cobras and Hornets, and the destroyer HARRIER headed straight for the oncoming ships. The battleship ZINGARA positioned itself to defend the FALCON.
" Advise the Emperor. We may need some additional firepower."
" Aye, sir."

Vice-Admiral Menendez anxiously paced the conn. " Goddam Frickel. Sending us out against nations with fifty times our fire power. He's out of his goddam mind." He looked again at his "fleet". Seventeen ships of the Nuevo Laredan navy and six from Tehatchapi. Well, he thought, at least we outnumber them....

His momentary satisfaction was dashed by an ensign shouting at him. " Sir, reports indicating Auralinia deploying over 45 ships to the area! At least 6 of them are carriers!"

Menendez sat down heavily. " Shit," he mumbled, " 6 carriers against our two. And these carriers are designed and built in Xeraph. Battle carriers.
Ensign, inform El Presidente of our situation. And don't mince words. If we engage them, the entire region will be lost. Got that?"
" Yessir, got it."

Sethanis was mildly concerned about this Nuevo Laredo and it's ally...what was it?...Touchipipi, Tatchipoopi...whatever the hell it was.
He was more concerned about Willink monitoring the situation. Willink ran with some of the big boys: Risban and Green Sun. Both were allies of Xeraph, but he knew that allies of an ally didn't necessarily make them allies of Black Shadows.
The King of Black Shadows was known as a hard, but just, man. The Borderlands of Black Shadows was part of the Xeraphian Empire, and Sethanis was an uncle of Alaric, the Emperor. All of the nations of the Empire were governed by members of the House of Tanith, excepting Dark Visions which was a nation of extraterrestrials seeking shelter within the powerful Empire.
" M'lord Duke, would you contact the leaders of Willink and ask them what their concerns might be in this situation?"
Duke Illassya bowed. "Yes, Majesty. Right away."

The Auralinian fleet was just a half-day from the area of conflict. Forty-two ships of the line and six subs. Eight carriers holding over 500 Anaconda, Cobra, and Rattlesnake fighters. Land-based Python bombers were already in the air, coordinates set to the inland cities of the Mejican region. They were being escorted/supported by 40 King Cobra fighter-bombers. If Nuevo Laredo wanted a fight, they'd get one.....

Vice-President Frickel sat in the over-stuffed chair in his office, a Colt .45 automatic still warm in his hand. A messenger burst in, and stopped short at the sight he beheld. El Presidente was slumped over on a white leather couch, now covered with copious amounts of blood from the slug lodged in his brain. He had demanded to know why Frickel had ordered the Nuevo Laredan navy against the larger Shadow force. They had argued, and now El Presidente was dead.
Frickel looked up at the messenger and said, " Get a message to the Parliament. They are disbanded. I am in sole control of our nation. El Presidente is dead. I have declared war upon the intruders. That is all."
The messenger ran out, and within minutes the capitol building was in an uproar.
Frickel was sick and tired of backing down from conflict. El Presidente had been too much of a pacifist. National honor was at stake. He was now in control, and he decided that it would be.....war.

Clemmons wondered just what in hell these Nuevo Laredans were thinking. Less than 25 of their ships against over 50 of ours. And as far as could be determined, they had not yet put any aircraft in the sky. One thing that concerned him was that it was not known if they had ICBMs. And if they did, how many.
The Auralinian fleet was just a few hours away, and the NL fleet had anchored seven miles away. They were just sitting there. Shadow subs had detected no enemy preparations for attack on their part.

It was the calm before the storm...........

We thank you for this. However the F78D is quite a powerful aircraft, and one of the things which often helps the empire to win. As such we can not risk it falling into other hands or being improperly cared for. Because of this we will send with them 20 Borman pilots and 30 Borman mechanics and technicians. We due however want to give your nation personally some edge. Therefore we will be sending with the planes 25 F22 Raptors at no charge. You may use them throughout the erupting incident and then keep them afterwards.

They're a tiny nation, and our forces couldn't get there in time." "Um, no sir, I don't guess they want help but..." "Alright, alright. I'll work on it." The man walked out. "OK, Admiral Johnston, when can you have the Delta Tide out there for observation?" "1 to 2 days. Maybe even 1 and a half days." "Do it. Make sure it's compliment of troops and fighters is full. IF it comes under fire, I want it able to accomodate a fight." "Yes sir."

The Commander of the Xeraphian Fleet was nick-named " Double-Edge". No matter which way he deployed his fleets, the effect was to cause maximum damage to the enemy forces on two fronts.
"Double-Edge knew that he wasn't here for a lone carrier headed to the NL hot zone. Alaric was no fool. There were already more than enough ships from Black Shadows and Auralinia to handle NL and it's ally, Tehatchapi. One more ship wouldn't have mattered.
No, there was more to it than met the eye. Double-Edge had complete confidence in the Emperor, and he knew that when the time came, he would be told what he was there for.
" Ensign, signal the commander of that SkyCapt carrier to stop where he is. He is not to come within 10 miles of this fleet. One message will suffice. If he moves one foot closer, I will consider it a hostile act and take appropriate action."
The Fleet was split into four loosely configured sections, 18-19 ships per section. Each section had 3 carriers and numerous battleships, destroyers, subs, and missile ships. At the commander's signal, the loose formation would snap-to, defining a path that would cut a swath through the enemy that was devastating in it's effect.
In this situation, it would also send a clear message to other nations: Do Not Interfere.

Outwardly calm, Frickel was seething inside. He was taking a huge gamble. His military forces were modern, state-of-the-art. But hopelessly out-gunned. The ratio of Black Shadow/Auralinian/Xeraphian forces to Nuevo Laredan forces was 220 to 1. And they were using a miniscule portion of their total capabilities.
No shots had been fired....yet. The enemy task force wouldn't be the first to engage, of that he was sure. That meant it was all up to him.
Turning to his aide, he said, " Have the navy and airforce stand by. Do nothing unless I order it."
" Yessir."

The DELTA TIDE now wanted to know if recon fly-overs would be permitted. No one in the Coalition Fleet could figure out just what in hell they were looking to find. Nothing was happening.
It all started when NL declared that it was going to monitor the Xeraphian base construction in Ag-Chthlu. Xeraph told them to mind their own business: in other words, 'you 'aint monitoring anything'. NL kept at it, and now had more military force off their coast than they could shake a stick at. Alaric had always been of the opinion that any nation could do as they damn well pleased.....so long as they were prepared to accept the consequences of their actions. If Nuevo Laredo persisted in their foolishness, then they would be destroyed, their lands occupied, their way of life changed forever.
All Xeraph wanted to do was be left alone.
Now SkyCapt was doing the same thing. They just wanted to know what was going on.
" Admiral, what response to Capt. Pierce?"
The Emperor had left Clemmons in charge of the NL situation, even though old "Double-Edge" was now involved. There were approx 102 Coalition ships in the area between the DELTA TIDE and the NL coastline, roughly an 80 mile distance. The coalition navy was spread across a line 75 miles long, in a semi-staggered formation. No one could get past them, going east or going west. The NL ships were anchored 60 miles off their coast, fanned out along a 25 mile line, about 25 miles from the foremost Coalition ships which were still...barely...in international waters.
On the other side of the Coalition line was the DELTA TIDE.
" Very well ,ensign. If they absolutely must have info, let them have it. Send them all the info we presently have regarding the situation, and tell them that we have no problem with SkyCapt flyovers. Advise them that NL may not feel the same way. If SC gets into a scrap with NL, theyr'e on their own. Alert all Coalition units that SC aircraft are not to be fired upon, just monitored."

" OK, people, listen up. We're gonna have some flyover recon units from SkyCapt coming in on our airspace. I don't know at this point just how many of them there will be, but they will be outnumbered by the NL carriers and their aircraft. Just in case NL gets trigger-happy, I'm deploying the F78D's and the Raptors on loan to us from the Borman Empire to escort and support the SC units. There are 35 BE units, and we can put our own Cobras and Rattlesnakes up there if need be. Now...listen carefully. If NL starts screwing around with either the SC units or the BE units, I want 300 of our boys scrambled immediately. Auralinian carriers will undoubtedly put up a couple of hundred more. I have a feeling that this 'monitoring' of our Ag-Chthlu base construction is going to get serious.
I am going to personally contact the Emperor and inform him that we may have need of Armor and Troops. Nuevo Laredo doesn't have much available to them to stop us, but they may be of a mind to fight to the death. We may find ourselves in the role of an occupation force. Inform Auralinia and SkyCapt that should that occur, we will need their ground troops involved."
" SkyCapt, sir? Why should they be involved in a potential occupation force? "
Clemmons glared at the ensign. " Because, ensign, if SC is going to be fired on, then he is going to want to defend himself. If he follows our lead, he will be with the victorious side. To the victors belong the spoils. It's only right that he gets a piece of Nuevo Laredo when it's all over."
"But sir, in all of the history of the Empire, we have only occupied one other nation, and that was for a set period of time. The Emperor has always kept the "VietNam Syndrome" in mind."
" Yes, ensign, that's true. We occupied Terronian for only three months, then turned the government over to the rightful leaders. I would imagine that the Emperor would do the same in this case. Allright, any other questions?"
There were none.
"OK, then let's get at it. Inform the Borman pilots that theyr'e going to escort our 'guest' any time now."

Ensign Commings, a UAV operator onboard the Delta Tide, was sitting at the control station for U.A.R. Bravo 1. His partner, Ensign Jodes, was manipulating the controls for U.A.R. Bravo 2. Commings turned back to the screen infront of him a moment before it blacked out. It came back on a second later, and he was mystified. He looked over the HUD and data figures, and noticed one line said: "Tank Empty". "What?" He thought to himself. These things didn't use gas. His screen began getting interference, and everything blacked out again, then came on again, this time with interference. From what he could make out, he spotted the engine and systems displays:
Systems failure, security breach. Total Systems shut-down in 10. Recommend control abort, commencing UAV return flight.
"Uh, sir, you might want to take a look at this." "What now son- Oh what have you done..." "Nothing, it blacked out twice, each time coming back online in-" "Shut up and get outta that chair!" "Yessir!" They were looking at the screen, trying to manipulate the controls. The display blacked out a second before the UAV shut down, heading on a collision course for a Black Shadows carrier.

"Clemmons sprang into action. " Get hold of the OSS-1. Have them activate the tractor beam and latch onto the aircraft."
The ensign relayed the coordinates to OSS-1, orbiting 400 miles above the earth's atmosphere. The beam was triangulated to engage the aircraft. The freefall of the UAV was checked, but it could still break apart.
" TransBeam all occupants of aircraft to the CONQUEST."
"Aye, sir."

Seconds later, the 4 occupants of the SC recon team materialized aboard the carrier CONQUEST. They were a bit shaken up, but intact, with a few bumps and bruises. The aircraft had not fared as well. It had broken apart and sank below the waves.

Ensign Pulver knocked and entered the commander's stateroom. " Uh, sir, we have an unusual situation."
" And that would be.....?"
" The, uh, personnel from the SC UAV are all AI."
"AI? Where did they get such sophisticated tech?"
" Apparently, they are more advanced than reports indicated. And they will undoubtedly want them back."
" So, send 'em back. What's the problem?"
" None, sir. Just wanted to let you know that our new 'friends' in SC are into advanced technology."
" OK, well done ensign, now get them damned robots off my ship."
" Aye sir."

President Frickel was on the edge of a nervous breakdown. His advisors and military commanders were demanding that he issue an order either to attack or an order to stand down. He knew that if he attacked, his country would be defeated and occupied. If he stood down, he would be tried and hanged as a traitor. a lose/lose situation. As was usual with military men, they were confident that they could at the very least hold their own in a conflict with Black Shadows and/or Auralinia....as long as Xeraph didn't intervene. Frickel wasn't so sure. The best he could see was a Phyrric victory.........they'd win, but at a cost that would render them virtually defeated.
He was stil thinking, drumming his fingers on his desk, when the Generals burst in.
" Mr. President, you either issue an order now, or we'll do it for you." This was from Gen. Stranza, a hot-head to be sure.
Frickel glared at him without glancing at the others. A long minute passed before he spoke.
" Very well, General. You want a war.....youv'e got one. Order the navy and airforce to attack the forward lines of the enemy fleet. Ready the ground troops and what armor is presently available. Send the Tehatchapian units in first. I want reports every 10 minutes."
Frickel stood. " Gentlemen, I want you to see to it that these Shadows and Auralinians never forget how much it cost them to defeat us. And I want you to hurt Xeraph as well. Make 'em pay!"

The first salvos boomed from the NL guns at 0135. Minor damage was inflicted on the BS and Auralinian units...at first. As the NL ships zeroed in, more and hits were reported. But........

When the Coalition ships returned fire, the effect was devastating. The combination of the battleships, destroyers, and subs simply overwhelmed the NL and Tehatchapian navy. Sixty-seven percent of the NL naval force was sunk or rendered inactive during the first 32 minutes of the conflict. Coalition losses were running about 2 percent. Then, the first wave of Python bombers flew into NL airspace. It was followed by sixteen more.....

________________________________________________________________

An hour and a half into the battle, the last of the Pythons dropped their payloads, and made way for the Cobras, Rattlesnakes, and Black Mambas to tackle what was left of the Nuevo Laredan airforce and take out any remaining anti-aircraft guns. There was so little resistence that the Air Commander ordered them to land at the three remaining NL airbases that had intact runways.

An hour later, the first armored troopers from Black Shadows landed on the NL beaches. They secured their landings, and called for the MBT's. One division of MT-66 Behemoths put to shore 25 minutes later and headed directly to the capitol of Nuevo Laredo. Ten minutes after that, another division of tanks from Auralinia landed...the fearsome MT-71 Ocelots.

Withhin three hours, 17,000 Royal Xeraphian Marines, 6,000 Shadow Rangers, and 7,200 Auralinian Armored Troopers landed and began the 78 mile trek towards NL's 6 largest cities, all of which were largely rubble by now. There was some resistence, a few fierce fire-fights, but it didn't stop the human wave of the Coalition..........

Message from the governing body of Tehatchapi:

To all nations attacking Nuevo Laredo. This is to inform you that we surrender. We ask for your terms.

" Admiral, Tehatchapi is signalling surrender."
Clemmons visibly relaxed. " Good...glad to see that somebody has some sense. Tell them we will be in contact within 24 hours. Chief, how goes the advance?"
" Well, sir, the Nuevo Laredan and Tehatchapian navies are all but destroyed. Shadow troops have three NL cities under control, Auralinian units have one and are approaching another, and the Xeraphian Marines have the capitol surrounded. Apparently there may some kind of last stand the Laredans are planning."
" Foolish, but admirable. Inform the Emperor of all conditions. We'll await his orders."
"Aye, sir"

"Sir...you know how we left Neuvo Laredo because there was nothing happening?"

"Yeah..."

"Well, about as soon as our ships were out of visible and shell range, guns opened up. Allied forces have already landed on NL and basically commandeered the nation, their ally has surrendered."

"Wow. Shame we couldn't help our allies, but it looks as if they didnt need our help."

The Emperor read the reports, then issued his orders.
" John, have the Marine commander demand the surrender of Nuevo Laredo. This must include the government turning over to Xeraphian authorities the person of the self-proclaimed president, Frickel. Failure to do so will result in the complete destruction of the NL capitol, all government officials killed. No harm is to come to the civilian population if NL surrenders. If it doesn't, I will not be held responsible for their deaths."
General Lord John Strickland, Commander EX Forces, immediately communicated the Emperor's wishes. " I hope they surrender," he thought. " God help that city if they don't..."

" Mr. President, the Xeraphian commander is demanding our surrender. And...they want you turned over to them."
Frickel glared red-eyed at the general. " What! Surrender! Never! We fight to the death!"
" Mr. President, they will kill every living thing in this city if we don't surrender. Do you want that on your conscience?"
" Let 'em try. I don't care if they kill us all. We'll go down fighting to the glory of the nation!"
Enough was enough. The general gestured to the guards, who promptly placed Frickel under arrest. He screamed and struggled, but he was in no condition to resist the burly guards. Thet dragged him out of the room.
"Captain, signal the Xeraphian commander that we will turn the president over to them in one-half hour. We are at their mercy."

________________________________________________________________

" Commander, Nuevo Laredo is signalling their surrender. And they will deliver their president in a half hour."
" Good. Very good. Inform them that their government is dissolved, and that the nations of Black Shadows and Auralinia will occupy their nation. Nuevo Laredo and Tehatchapi are from this day forward a part of the Empire of Xeraph."
The lieutenent didn't quite believe what he had heard. " Excuse me sir. Did you say that NL and Tehatchapi are now Xeraphian territories?"
" You heard me correctly, lieutenant. On the Emperor's orders, we are not going to let these nations continue to rule themselves. These are the first two nations of the New Order of the Xeraphian Imperium. Nuevo Laredo was correct in their estimation of our buildup of Ag-Chthlu as a nation-sized military base. It is from there the great and glorious Empire of Xeraph will commence it's conquest and aquisition of any nation that interferes in Xeraph's affairs. Let the world beware......."
