The Samurai Rides Into the Stars

Fujishima Corporation

OOC: Because FT is pretty darn fun and addicting.....well, I have decided to take this evil megacorporation-cum-neo-Japanese Empire to the stars. Consider this a total restart.

These eventr take place a 100 years ago-my next post will examine what the Corporation is like now.....

IC:

Somewhere in Earth Orbit, 100 years ago-

The CSS Nagata, named after the great Japanese Army total war theorist of the 1930's, was ready to go, as were her sisters, the Shizuka, and the Yamashita. The Corporation had done well on Earth, it had even taken the island of Sumatra for itself. Now, obstensibly for human benefit, the Corporation had built three starships, with the aid of the UN. On the official UN rolls, they were peaceful colony vessels and science missions, with non threatening names like "Olympus," whatnot. But Junichiro knew otherwise.

Junichiro Fujishima sat in the ready room. He held the manifest and looked it over well. About 2.5 million persons were on the Nagata, and the Shizuka, the remainder on the Yamashita. There were enough supplies to last for at least six months, and enough supplies to build self-sustaining colonies. In all, five million slated for travel, many of them peoples of all kinds, but a good portion Japanese and employees of Fujishima. Their destination was a recently discovered habitable planet near Tau Ceti. Perfect for supporting life and anything else the mission demanded.

He then saw the rolls, a few hundred thousand personnel, who were assigned to security, were present. This was good.....for they were key in his master plan. These men were headed by a General Toshiro Nagata, cousin to the CEO and a fellow ultranationalist. He would, in time, sieze control of the ships, the moment they got to Tau Ceti.

He then was awoken from his reading, and told to report to his cryo chamber.

He did so, and then went into the deep sleep of cryostasis.....on Earth, everybody waved goodbye and prayed, for safety, and for thanks-after all, one of the most hated men on Earth was now safely gone, never to bug the human race again.

Or so it was hoped.

---------------

Six Months Later-

The ships made it to their destination unharmed....and soon, the crews and team members woke up. Everybody was soon buzzing about, reporting to work, and getting ready for supervising the landings.

Then, the CEO woke up. He then said, "Excellent." Going to one of the intercoms, he then said to General Nagata, "General.....keep everything tidy, will you?"

The General, who got this, understood this as the code word for the plan's execution. He then ordered the soldiers of his command to seize control.

A platoon ran to the bridge of each vessel, and greeted the captains with guns and threats. Men ran about, forcing everybody into groups. The process was hurried, and tooke everybody by surprise.

Everybody wanted to know what was happening. A voice was soon heard.

"Ladies and Gentlemen-

I, Junichiro Fujishima, head of the Fujishima Corporation, do hereby assume control of these ships. The United Nations which saw fit to help us build them is a decrepit, hypocritical organization filled with the weak. We, on the other hand, are strong.

You wonder, why the cliches? Simple. For too long, I have tried, and failed, to build a perfect utopia on Earth where everyone has his place, no one is weak, and all live in peace with each other, and deal justice to their foes. Time and time again, various agencies, newsmen, and government have frustrated me. Now, with these ships and this habitable world, I intend to make this dream possible. You all will share in it, you have no choice. You'll find that it will actually be like taking a booster shot. Painful at first, but beneficial later on."

All the people were stunned by this. Some complained, and tried to resist. These were shot mercilessly. Fujishima continued, "Now, resume standard loading/unloading procedure. In the meantime, this mission is now under the command of the Fujishima Corporation, not the UN. As such, any references or sympathies to the UN are not tolerated. General Nagata, meet me in the Captain's room."

Nagata and Fujishima soon met, and then discussed how the operations would work. The colonies would be built, and then united under the Fujishima corporate flag. To ensure stability, a system of genetic selection and thought control, similar to that of Brave New World and 1984 only using more modern and well tested scientific methods, would be used to keep the people in line and breed loyal citizens. Would sex be outlawed? For procreation, yes. For fun? Of course not.

Same with books, internet sites, and anything media related and whatnot. All of that was to be handled by the Corporation, obviously, and the Corporation would be the sole speaker, controller of the media, and object of worship (a Corporate Cult would be formed, most likely). It would be like North Korea-as much as the CEO hated to point that fact out. But, the "Dear Leader" and his regime had a few tips to offer any fledgling overlord-cum-emperor.

The CEO then made a toast.

"To the health of the Corporation. May the sons of Amaterasu and Jimmu Tenno rule the stars."

General Nagata replied:

"Amen!"

100 Years Later-

A century had passed since the establishment of Shizuka City, Yamashita City, and Nagata City. It was now A.Fu. 100, in normal timekeeping, A.D./C.E. 2150.

The growth of the perfect society had gone as planned. A nation, perpetually at arms, was born. Caste Factories had produced two classes: one a workingclass (the Freeters), perpetually bound to the society's dirty work and live in blissful, almost cliched ignorance, the other a ruling class of scientists and corporate bigwigs (the taisho), empowered in every way the workingmen were not to lord over them. Fitting Junichiro's twisted dream, the workingmen were clones and descendants of the non-Japanese crewmen, the rulers were almost invariably Japanese. Procreation was not entirely banned in one variation of the Dream, the classes were allowed to have kids, if only to supplement the Factories. The factories were still needed to throw in a new genetic "wrench in the works" to keep the genepool interesting.

Media was controlled strongly; music was driven by digital pop idols, the newspapers and magazines and TV all reported good news that the Corporation wanted them to say. Video games were approved or deleted by the Government. Games and sports were all martial arts, for the purpose of National Defense. The schools taught that the taisho were divine-no one could deny their will-and taught the line of history that the Cult of the Savior taught, that Old Earth was a place of weakness and that Fujishima I led his people to the Promised Land.

To the ill educated lower classes, this almost seemed like fact. To those who realized this was not so, the Special Higher Police paid them a visit, making them nonexistent, sending them to some gulag or simply killing them, "reusing" them cruelly for more genetic material.

Religion was something different. The State Religion was the Corporate Ideal. A mix of Confucianism, Shinto, self-promotion and a perversion of bushido and Zen, it served to justify the near-total control of the taisho and the CEO.

The effects of all this was that the taisho had unlimited power over the lives of the freeters, which they often abused. And above all of them was the CEO-Junichiro Fujishima III (a third generation clone of the first Junichiro Fujishima). He was God, and then some.

Technology had advanced surprisingly well. The Corporation needed all the new bells and whistles it could get to keep their rule over the freeter classes. Also, its Corporate Armed Forces needed all kinds of new toys. One lesson the first Junichiro learned was that martial spirit and the tokuho or "soldier's code," (the modified version of Bushido used by the WWII IJA that was modified by the Corporation) was not enough to keep the army going. As such, new weapons and tactical thought were emphasized in conjunction with martial spirit and self-sacrifice.

Day after day, life continued like this. The population had expanded all over the world, and some space exploration had begun.....

The job of merchant scout could be a blessing or a punishment, depending on how one looked at it. On one hand, there is the thrill of discovery and the excitement involved in finding something truly unknown to Robotic records. But on the other hand, there is the boredom and tedium that comes with spending months on end combing the far corners of the charted galaxy looking for something that might not be there, or might be lightyears away.

For the crew of the cruiser RNS Primorye, the patrol so far had been extremely uneventful. The pirate activity anticipated in the area (why a cruiser, staffed with eager and restless crewmen as opposed to robots interested in delivering food aid and doing accounts) hadn't surfaced, so when the long-range passive array detects an unidentified contact it causes quite a stir.

"Contact on the long passive, sah!"
"All hands, beat to quarters!"
