OOC: This will act as the Kellarin factbook, I will be working on it and updating it over time. Comments, questions, anything is welcome

History

Welcome to Kellarin Corporation. Kellarin corporation started off some two centuries ago as a small scale produce of fighter weaponry in the Dominion of Veredia. Numerous contracts were awarded by the Veredian Air Force for weapons systems, primarily the Pulverizer line of mass drivers. As years went by, Veredia expanded its space holdings, and the Veredian Space Navy was created. By this time, Kellarin had expanded to encompass all assets of fighter and small craft technology, including maintenance contracts for the V-22 Vortex fleet.

With manufacturing facilities across Veredia producing weapons, engines, powerplants, frames, computer systems, and other spare parts, executives announced the planned development of a small craft manufacturing and test facility. Three of these facilities were eventually built, two on Veredia, and one in the Faregon system. The faregon system was largely uninhabited, excluding a small science station, and Faregon Mining Corporation's mining operation on the single planet in the system.

As the shinzu war began, Kellarin purchased the Faregon Mining Corporation and used the new resource base to greatly expand by beginning construction on a shipyard facility and large scale industrial complex in the Faregon system. When Shinzu attacked Veredia, military targets were prioritized, and all of Kellarin's holdings on Veredia were wiped out. This lead to the creation of the Kellarin Security Forces, a small corporate military that would eventually reach a battlegroup in size and become a defacto element of the Veredian Space Navy.

With almost all the shipyards at Veredia destroyed, Kellarin's Faregon site became the focus of much corporate and military interest, and Kellarin's importance grew tenfold as it expanded with additional shipyard facilities and its worth grew dramatically. Kellarin began mass manufacturing of warships and developed an entire research and development division, along with a sophisticated fleet sized proving ground for the testing of formations of new ships.

During this time of prosperity, Kellarin Corporation manufactured a variety of vessels from fighters, to million ton bulk freighters to multimillion ton dreadnoughts that would command the fleets of Veredia. The Veredian Space Navy signed a deal with Kellarin for the production of some 200 Redemption class destroyers, to reduce the cost of this purchase, the VSN gave full production and export rights to Kellarin Corporation, although all exports had to be cleared with the Veredian government.

When war started up again with Corpsac, and Veredia began to collapse, Kellarin decided to sell its assets and leave the nation. However, before it could carry through with its plan, many of its assets were destroyed or seized in the fighting. Kellarin's executives loaded almost its entire workforce and their families onto newly built ships and fled with everything they had left.

A new home, Salus, and the modern Kellarin Corporation

Kellarin Corporation then found a new home, and renamed the system the Kellarin system and started to rebuild. It is here, in the Kellarin system, that our greatest accomplishment lies. Salus, latin for salvation, an immense city-station home to all of Kellarin's five million workers and family members. This immense station has extensive hydroponic facilities, an entire lake, water recyclers, and is powered by an extensive network of fusion and matter/anti-matter reactors. The 'top' of the station is an immense glass dome overtop the surface district of the city, this district is home to some 200,000 people and includes parks, a small forest, and even wild animals. The station is modular, so it can be expanded to house even more people.

The station also has drydock and shipyard modules attached, allowing it construct vessels. In addition, housed in hangars and docking facilities is an entire fleet of mining, construction, repair, research, and cargo ships, allowing the station to be virtually self sufficient, as it can dispatch these vessels, which have jump capability, to resource rich areas or other nations to gather raw materials, perform research, or conduct trade.

In addition to the station, Kellarin corporation has a network of six major shipyards and 17 smaller scale construction facilities that for decades have constructed hundreds of vessels, primarily for the various factions of the former Veredian dominion and other miscellaneous space faring nations. Kellarin has developed its own lines of utility ships, construction ships, cargoships, luxury vessels, and warships.

To keep these shipyards running, a massive mining operation is conducted among the asteroid belt, and among the various planets and moons in the system. In addition to ships, there are extensive manufacturing facilities within Salus itself producing everything from consumer goods to powerplants, also, a large industrial complex and miscellaneous factories have been constructed around the city, some even transit tubes connecting to the station for ease of travel for the workers.

In addition to the fleet maintained at Salus, a largely freeranging fleet of tenders, hydroponics ships, and other miscellaneous vessels is owned and operated by Kellarin Corporation. Many of these vessels can be found abroad, under contract to various Veredian factions or corporations.

Inside Salus

The city of Salus is home to some five million people, while many are awed at this, and rightly so, many have asked how a single corporation can employ so many people. Following the collapse of Veredia and Kellarin Corporation fleeing the warzone, the corporation had tens of thousands of employees, and these employees had families. As such, Kellarin had to provide a home and an entire life for all these people.

When Salus was built, it was obvious that the corporation would need more than just engineers, technicians, scientists, and soldiers, and while many of the family members were doctors, teachers, and other tradespeople Kellarin had to hire teachers to teach the children, doctors and nurses to help the sick, police officers, and other people needed to run a city. As more and more people came in, the city expanded, stores, restaurants, and even other companies and businesses opened up, and more and more people moved in. The corporation sponsored and helped form community councils, which expanded into an entire government, run by Kellarin employees.

Thus, the corporation is more than just a company, but more of an entire family or nation, with everything from schools to hospitals to gun platforms. Whole new businesses exist in Salus, such as the Spaceaid pharmaceutical company, although all these companies work in association with the Kellarin Corporation's various divisions, such as its medical R&D division. The people of Salus have to pay taxes, although the company's profits help subsidize the government services such as the hospitals, transit systems, support fleet, and running the station, among others.

Security

Kellarin Corporation maintains three seperate security entities:

Kellarin Defence Forces

While in Veredia, Kellarin Corporation developed an entire battlegroup that often fought alongside the VSN, however, part of the battlegroup was destroyed in the fighting, and many of the other ships opted to stay in Veredia and fight for their homeland. Most of the vessels that stayed during the corporation's exodus were destroyed, but some survived and eventually found their way back to Kellarin Corporation.

These ships form the core of the Kellarin Defence Forces, the fourty thousand strong military force that defends Salus and the other holdings. Given the nature of the Kellarin Corporation, most of these personnel are naval personnel, and Kellarin maintains an advanced fleet of warships, mostly smaller corvettes and frigates, although it does posses larger destroyers and cruisers. The numbers are approximately 8,000 in the marines, and 32,000 in the fleet. About half the marines are stationed aboard Salus, the rest are spread out amongst the mining facilities, industrial complexes, repair facilities, shipyards, and research facilities.

The fleet consists of 32,000 personnel, spread amongst a fleet of six Omega destroyers, eight Redemption destroyers, six Hyperion cruisers, 24 Cavalier frigates, and 36 Lifeless II corvettes. There are several hundred smaller gunships and fighters, and the KCNS Endeavour, a carrier, is undergoing testing. The rest of the fleet's personnel are support, working the shipyards, repair yards, and other facilities.

Kellarin Civil Security Forces

The Kellarin Civil Security Forces are the police of Salus, wearing dark blue pants, light blue shirts with security vests, and carrying sidearms, they are easily identifiable from the KDF marines that can also be found walking the corridors of Salus, in their black tactical gear carrying rifles. The KCSF does everything a corporate security guard would do, manning security checkpoints, keeping people out of restricted areas, but also fill the role of police, solving murders, keeping the peace, assisting around the community, preventing theft and other crimes.

For the most part, KCSF personnel go about their duties with only a sidearm and a stun stick, although there are heavier weapons available at security stations, these are made up of almost all carbines. The KCSF also maintains a small fleet of small craft and patrol vessels, which it uses to enforce rule of law in Kellarin space alongside the KDF fleet.

In the event Salus is attacked, the KCSF is capable of assiting marine forces in defending the city, and are obligated to do so, but while the primary focus of the marines in such a situation will be to eliminate all opposition, the KCSF's priority would be the protection of civilians, and getting them out of the combat zone, allowing the marines to do their job without worrying about civilian casualties.

If the KCSF is faced with a situation requiring more firepower than they normally possess, the marines will almost always take over, while carbine armed KCSF personnel will standby as backup.

Kellarin Civil Defence Corps

The civil defence corps is the third arm of the security forces, and is sort of a Salus militia. Citizens of Salus, ranging from students, to engineers, to scientists report regularly for military training, and keep a set of battle gear and personal weapon at home, in the event of an attack on Salus that will overwhelm the marines, or if the marines have been called away.

The civil defence corps, organized into civil defence squadrons, command vehicles as well, but no ships or fighters. Their vehicles are mecha, walking robots piloted by trained pilots. While mecha have disadvantages compared to more conventional vehicles, given the nature of Salus, mecha are the best choice. The mecha range from powered armour, to full sized mechs with a cockpit and powerful arsenals.

While civil defence corps infantry keep their weapons and kit at home, civil defence corps mecha, heavy weapons, and other special equipment is kept at armouries located across Salus. To this date, the civil defence corps has yet to be called to duty.

Kellarin Products and technology

Powerplants

Kellarin Corporation utilizes and produces two types of reactors, fusion, and matter/anti-matter. Fusion reactors are the cheapest and most common reactor available from Kellarin, and work by combining lighter elements into heavier ones, such as deuterium into helium. Matter/antimatter reactors operate by combining like forms of matter and antimatter. These two compounds then cancel each other out, resulting in the destruction of both compounds, producing a massive energy release. Powerful magnetic fields are required to keep antimatter separated from matter, in order to avoid catastrophic premature interaction. These forms of M/AM reaction are very inefficient. In order for M/AM systems to be cost effective, complex gravity technology is needed to harness the potential energy of matter/antimatter reaction in order to exploit it to its full potential, limiting this technology to races with a firm grasp of gravitic technology. It also requires two kilograms of fuel, one half matter one half antimatter to get a complete 9*1016 joule energy release.

Propulsion Systems

Kellarin Corporation makes use of ion particle engines. Ion particle engines work by charging (or ionizing) gases such as xenon. The gas is then accelarated electrically through the use of magnetic fields at high speeds. When ions are emitted at high speeds, they propel the vessel forward.

Early ion engines were renowned for their stability, however, still had lacklustre accelaration. The addition of a particle accelarator, which accelarates the ions to near light speed, modern ion engines produced and used by Kellarin are not only efficient, stable, but also field high accelaration.

Weapon Systems
