Tropical Depression 13 - Possible Threat

OOC: With Hurricane Katrina going through states right to the left of me (in case for those who don't know, the only state I could possibly be in is Florida) I thought it would be interesting to do something I always include happening to my nation. "Very tropical, low-lying, and actively hit by hurricanes in their early stages." What would happen if something like Katrina happened, and what would the NSers act to?

Please note that I am not a meteorologist, so some things happening may not be possible or would not cause such things to happen.

Emeraldian Weather Center; Raptior, Capitallia

The Emeraldian Weather Center was world-renowned for being state-of-the-art in many fields of not only storms, but also in water currents and in atmospheric movements. It was located in a small city of Raptior, which was the capital of the Jewittist Republic and of Capitallia, a nation within the Republic.

The Emeraldian Weather Center, nicknamed Loighen (pronoused lohee-JEHN), for the Comminuklech word for "Savior," was large and massive. Its buildings (five in all) stood proudly at the highest point of the city of Raptior, 12 feet below sea level.

Raptior was known as the "Shortest big city" because its lowest point, shallow man-made pool for beauty in the area, was 45 feet below the level of the Atlantic ocean. Raptior had an average depth of 23 below the blue. It was protected by a series of locks and seawalls, the smallest twenty feet above sea level (a wave breaker, mostly) and the tallest being 42 feet above sea level (actual protection). There were only three seawalls, a 20, 35, and 42 foot-high one. There were locks, which were actually used for ships who would come to port from the river which fed into Raptior (which was exited by a draining system and through the seawalls).

The beautiful and powerful city was never harmed by hurricanes, although common in the chain of islands, because of its northern location. It was also this reason why most buildings where not dome-like and reinforced, like the southern and "shield" islands, nor were power lines below ground like these islands. Since Capitallia was a section of the largest island in the entire chain, simular in size to the entirety of Germany, there as no need for underground systems, even with expences aside.

The center had been buisy, with the incomming tropical storms which rarely turnned to even class 1 hurricanes before they passed. Being located inbetween South America and Africa as the chain was, it commonly picked up the "birthing" of these storms, and because the chain was so hot (as in the dirt was black, and not white, and the coastal waters being warmmed by the black sand) the storms usually formed right over the islands, or next to them then gained speed. Many American nations blammed the chain for creating 60% of the storms.

Tropical Depression 12 rolled by without really getting too much power. It rained and flooded a bit of the southern islands that were below 50 feet (coastal), but besides that, no problems.

There was speculation as to when the next tropical current may arrise. A massive warm front had moved in off the coast of Africa and was pushing an on-going thunder storm. Tropical Depression, or even Storm, could possibly be made before the end of the week if the system decided to leave the African coastline.

Rumors were flooding across the nation. "Thirteen will be a hurricane before it even gets within our radars' range!" and "Thirteen is curced, last year thirteen could have whiped out all of the American continent if it didn't happen to late in the season!" Just plain rumors, people entertaining themselves at meetings and at the clubs while playing cards.

The thunder storm had been traveling faster as soon as it hit the warm front infront of it and the cold front behind it had sped up a bit. It was now travelling the entire nation within the day, a fast storm for such a dry and ill-hydrated nation.

As men and women inside watched the storm's severity levels (green, yellow, and red layers) drop and rise in different areas, it seemed to all start to disentagrate. As time went on, the rain fall and lightining recordings dropped and the movement was started to break apart, no problem.

As the cold front disapeared, and the warm front moved over the chain of islands over the later day, the men noticed something happening off the coast of Senegal (right over Cape Verde). A massive build up of clouding and lightining. The sea waters were warming up daily, and with it, came the warming of the black sand in Emeraldia and along Cape Verde. Before the night came, with light leaving the falsely-calm Atlantic ocean infront of Raptior, the storm was now Tropical Depression 13.

OOC II: The comming will be brief, while the prepairations and damage done will be detailed. Just a head's up (I don't really want to talk about stuff I know nothing about).

Mark Howard had gone to this tropical nation for vacation. So far, it had been good. The weather had been a break from SkyCapt's cool temperatures. But now rumours were starting up about a possible hurricane. But htey were just rumours, he had reminded himself many times. "Just like the rumoured Predator reports," he thought to himself with a chuckle. This was the life. He sipped his Coke, then sat back in his recliner, and fell asleep... Again...

I agree with TFU. Using real life events (i.e. the Tropical Depression thing) is bad taste for an RP here. It's not really orriginal and people in RL might die from the Tropical Depression and you are having fun by making fun of it.

OOC: I am not making fun of it, I am doing this to see how the NS people would react. Plus, don't talk to me if I would get offended. I have lived through the past hurricanes to have swep the Florida coastline (panhandle) and I have had my share of fears of a big storm. I have family that lives in Norleans and in Baton Rouge (most of my family is from that area in Louisiana).
I am doing this purely from RP. Hey, people RP new holocausts, and I don't here people yelling "Jews wouldn't like this," but then again, half of my family is jewish and I don't take offence.
This is in no way to make fun of or to mock resent events. Just to see reactions and to RP according to how I have described my nation.

Continuation comming up later today (on school computer now).
