Imperial Palace, Ryukmi, Kyinti Island, The Avalonian
Isles
King Aiji descended the magnificent marble starcase to
the bustling ballroom below. Newt to him his wife,
Queen Orimi, waved to the photographers from the
Ryukmi Post, the city's only newspaper; naturally
state controlled. As they reached the feast table, the
awaiting nobility, dressed in elegant suits and gowns,
bowed respectfully before taking their seats. Sweet
pomegranate wine, a luxury few could afford, was
served to the guests in priceless crystal glasses,
which they raised for the kings toast:
" Noblemen of the Avalonian Isles, Rejoice! It is with
great happiness that I announce that the rebellion has
been suppressed. The dangerous rebels who only a few
days ago surrounded this palace, calling for anarchy
and the destruction of society, have been rounded off
and sent to prison. The integrity of our glorious
kingdom has been saved. On this wonderful note, I
toast to the Avalonian Isles; long may her royalty
reign, and the violent masses be pacified by her
rulers!"
The delecate clinking of the glasses soothed the
recently embattled king, and for the first time in
weeks his face shone with a brilliant smile.
Two miles away, in Ryukmi Bay, a young man stood on a
small fishing boat, facing the shore. In front of him
loomed the Yacht Lavender Dawn, luxurious home
at sea of the Count and Countess of Yagane Island.
Tonight she sat lifeless, her owners feasting at the
royal palace. Double checking to make sure the coast
was clear, he climbed aboard, lugging a large drum of
oil. He quickly set to work, first rummaging around to
find precious objects for the rebels coffers, and
then, once they were safely removed, poured the dark
liquid all over the deck. He lit a fuse, leaving the
other end on the deck, and quickly motored away.
Within seconds, the boat burst into flames, sending a
towering coulmn of fire up into the night sky. All
over the bay, beacons were quickly lit, signaling to
still more beacon bearers. By midnight, the hills
glowed with torches, brightly sounding the call for freedom.
By dawn the next day, The Avalonian Isles were in crisis for the second time in as many weeks. Thinking that the paltry protests earlier had been the begining, brunt and the end of the fight for democracy, government forces were caught offguard. Several boats were pirated in Port Cisumoto and sent to spread word to the other islands. In Komina, the entire harbor and half the downtown were in rebel hands. At both ends of the Serpent River, in Ebinara and Isara, patrol boats were sent to control river traffic and thus a large part of Kyinti Island. And, in the northern city of Urunaji, a jury-rigged sattalite sent out a desperate call for aid to help the islanders throw off the shackles of empirial opresasion.
