President Branam Dies in his Sleep

Jarridia
29-08-2005, 13:41
Presidential Palace; Shelbin, Jarridia

The first-lady's eyes flicked open, as the bright sun beamed through the numerous windows in the Presidential Bedroom. As she rustled around in bed, she felt that her husband, Jarridian President Jarrod Branam, was still next to her. She glanced at the clock, which displayed a bright red 9:30 a.m. She had never known Jarrod to sleep past 7:45, and this was indeed astonishing.

She sat up quickly in the bed, looking around for a brief moment, then back at her husband. She leaned in and gave him a kiss and touched his shoulder, both of which felt near ice cold to her touch. She shook him just a little bit and said, "Jarrod, it's time to wake up." There was no response, so she tapped his chest and shook him again and said, more sternly this time, "Honey, are you ok? It is time to wake up and start our day."

There was still no response. She pulled the blankets off of him slightly, just enough to be in full view of his chest, and she watched it intently. Her mind racing, and filling with the most horrific thoughts. His chest never moved and inch. Tears filled her eyes, a full shake overtook her body and she bagan gasping for air. With all her might, she shouted, "GUARDS!" Then she fell over on her husband, grasping for him and repeatedly pleading, "Please don't leave me Jarrod, don't leave me."

The guards rushed into the room, and immediately could tell something was amiss. She looked over at them, tears rushing down her face, she shouted, "He's dead!"

The guards were awestruck, their faces turning pale. Two of them rushed to the side of the bed and cleared room to begin CPR, while the other two quickly got ahold of the Shelbin - Navarro Memorial Hospital.

No one knew how long the President had been dead for, but no one had expected an emergency of this magnitude to occur so rapidly. After several minutes of CPR, the President was still unresponsive. The guards tried to console the First-lady, as they awaited the arrival of the ambulance, but all attempts were futile, as her emotions had fully taken over her body.

At nearly 10:00 a.m. the ambulance arrived at the palace to wisk the President, the First-lady and the Secretary of State away to the hospital. This was only the beginning of a long, and tragic ordeal for Jarridia.

----------------------------

Fox Television, Breaking News

The news anchors of Channel 4 recieved the special report as the ambulance went into the Palace gates. They had quickly dispatched a reporter to the seen, and were prepared to begin a live feed.

"Good morning Jarridia, and welcome back to the show. We are going live now to the Palace gates, as something seems to be happening. Let's go live now to Robert Cursack." stated Mary Bihardy, a reknowned Jarridian anchor.

"Thank you Mary. As you can well see behind me, there is an ambulance at the palace, but there are no signs of what has occurred. As you can see, people have begun crowding the gates, wanting and anticipating answers for the sudden emergency call." said Robert

"Are there any concerns that the President may be in harm, or someone of the immediate cabinet?" asked Mary.

"Of course that fear is there, but as I said we have no evidence of anything right now. Just that an early morning emergency call was placed from the palace. We have recieved word that the President was not in the rose garden this morning, like he usually is, but perhaps this is a mere coincedence, Mary." responded Robert

"Indeed. We will come back to you in a moment. Stay tuned to JNN for updated coverage of the Emergency taking place at the Presidential Palace."

The coverage cut to commercials pertaining to tacos, and a new brand of cat food.

The President's ambulance arrived at the hospital within moments. Cameras had already arrived on the seen as the First-lady, Secretary of State, Kim Shaffer and the President's body were unloaded from the ambulance. A team of doctors had assembled and they rushed into the emergency room post haste.

Cameras flashed and the police and national guard did all they could to hold the raging crowd back. Assumptions and accusations spread like wildfire through the media, spilling every single detail to the public until everything had bored their minds to death. However, nothing was more disheartening than when the doctor stepped out 15 minutes later with Kim Shaffer and announced that President Jarrod Branam was indeed gone. A gasp feel over the crowd, and a moment of silence that would rip your heart out.

Every reporter looked at the other, in utter disbelief. Could the greatest President of Jarridia die so suddenly? The feeling of Jarridian immortality was shaken down to nothing, an earthquake had just rocked the very foundation of Jarridian society, and all at once, the nation seemed meaningless.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Fox Television Report

A man named Tom Grofthe sad behind the desk. A stern man dressed in a black suit with a white shirt and black tie, he was about to announce the horrific news to the nation and the world.

"Good morning ladies and gentlemen. I have been sent to spread the news of the tragedy that has unfolded this morning. President Jarrod Branam, was pronounced dead this morning by doctors at the Shelbin-Navarro Memorial Hospital at approximately 10:45 a.m. There is no word on the cause of death at this time, but the President was only 45 years old. This is indeed a horrific event, and there is no telling what our future will be. We must take a break now, but we will continue to be with you through the day, and bring you all up to date on the situation.

God speed President Branam."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

At approximately 10:45 a.m. President Jarrod Branam was pronounced dead. He leaves behind his wife, Kasilyn, and his daughter Mylea and a legacy that will live on forever in the minds of all Jarridians. We hope for justice in our future, and stict obeying of our constitution on this occassion. The autopsy will take place this afternoon, and the funeral will be held in several processions throughtout the week, including a special session for national leaders. More information will be divulged later.

LONG LIVE JARRIDIA!

GOD BLESS PRESIDENT BRANAM. IN MEMORY OF YOUR ACHEIVEMENTS AND WONDER.

Statement

"The Territory of Holy Panooly applauds the death of their illegal and wicked president, and we hope he suffered many long hours on the operation table, on his death bed or the bed of his mistress. We hope and pray he rots in hell next to all the victims he made personally, and his death shall be celebrated throughout Holy Panooly. There was absolutely nothing special, magnificent or anything that sets him apart as a human being, so all your comments how great he was are exaggerated and melodramatic. We propose a toast to the death of more Jarridians, the death of their nation, and the idiotic WWA."

We are saddened to see the world lose such a great leader. Wingarde will gladly contribute in any way you request, including the investigation of the death causes. Even though it is not my intention to instill paranoia, and considering Jarrod Branam was relatively young and healthy, I cannot help wonder about the real factors behind the president's demise...

Kasilyn, the wife of President Branam, stood by her husband's side in the hospital. The tears rolling down her face, she caressed his cold, lifeless hand in hers as the doctors ran about, preparing to transport the body. Kim Shaffer came in through the door and grabbed Kasilyn's hand and spoke, "Come Mrs. Branam, there is a lot that needs to be done."

Kasilyn looked at her, her heart sinking so low to nothingness. She cleared her throat and spoke, "Nothing can be done. Everything I have hoped for is gone."

Kim smiled and stopped for a moment, "No Kasilyn, it has just begun. For you are now the President of Jarridia."

Kasilyn stepped back, gazing as she watched the doctors wheel her husbands body away. She shook her head fiercly, "I know nothing about politics or policy. I can't run a country. Jarridians wouldn't take me seriously."

Kim frowned a little, then said, "Well this is your chance to prove them wrong, unless you want to step down this opportunity to the Vice President."

"This is what I will have to do," said Kasilyn, "I can't do this. I can't lead on a legacy like Jarrod left behind."

Kim shook her head, "You don't have to live up to him, only yourself. However, if you want to step down, I will help you prepare your speech for the Congress."

Kasilyn smiled and said, "Thank you Kim, for understanding my decision."

Kim smiled at her as they both walked out of the hospital towards the Presidential car.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Jarridian Capitol Building; Senate Chambers

Kasilyn stood at the podium, Kim Shaffer to her right, and Zach Finger (Vice President) at her left. She gazed over the Senators and Representatives eyeing her intently, and she could see the sun shining over the palace through the large windows of the building. She quickly glanced back at Kim, and a sudden smile came to her face, and for once, she was comfortable in this horrific day. She began to speak

"Dear Senators and members of the House of Representatives, it is with great...." she hesitated slightly, thinking hard and then continuing, "pleasure that I accept the Presidency of the Pure Democracy of Jarridia."

A massive hush fell over the crowd, a smile came over Kim's face, and Zach seemed especially displeased. The congressmen bellowed a huge laugh as the entire room filled with noise. Zach Finger picked up his gavel and slammed it on the bar and yelled, "I will have order in this chamber!"

A hush fell over the room again as they gazed upon him. Kasilyn had become embarrassed and kind of dissappeared into her chair. Zach looked at her, and motioned for her to stand. He quickly spoke as she stood up, "The constitution states that the first-lady will recieve the power of the presidency, unless she decides to deny it. Kasilyn has aggreed to become our leader, and we have no other choice but to accept her as such. I hereby proclaim, by the slam of my gavel, that Kasilyn Joan Branam will be the President of Jarridia." He slammed down the gavel, and the power had been passed to make the first female Jarridian president.

However, it was only 12:45 at this time, and the day was yet to be over. There was still more stress and anxiety to unfold as the progression of the day continued.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The news of the President's death spread like wildfire through the populous. Across the country flags were lowered to half-mast, and a terrible emotional depressed set in for the loss of their president. Not a single Jarridian could believe the tragedy and suddeness of it. This was indeed a turning point in Jarridian history.

The United Socialist Republic of the Aztec National League sends it’s condolences to the Pure Democracy of Jarridia and the family of President Jerrod Branam. While we may have our normative political, economic and cultural differences, Aztlán does recognize the importance of all life, and the passing of this more level headed leader is quite unfortunate.

We also give our friendliest regards to the Administration of Kasilyn Branam. Although the circumstances are tragic, we hope that Mrs. Branam’s tenure is fruitful and successful.

At the same time, we feel regret regarding the rather rude comments regarding the passing of Mr. Branam. We fail to see “holiness” in wishing others painful deaths, the destruction of nations or peoples nor do we see apathy in this situation as a blessed act.

At an undisclosed location, Lord-General Drache stands in front of a scenery of what appears to be a lush garden, making a rare televised speech.

"It is with great sadness and regret that our Empire received the news of President Branam's death earlier today. He was a personal friend of mine, of the Empire itself, and a tremendous ally in times of personal and political crisis.

I have declared today a day of mourning for the entire Empire, and a memorial service will be scheduled on behalf of the widowed First-Lady, should she choose to accept our offer."

Inhaling slowly, his normally bright brown eyes shimmering as he blinked and took a moment to maintain composure, the Emperor continued on.

"So often do we forget our most treasured things in these turbulent, swiftly changing times, and fail to reflect upon them--It is not money, not power, nor fame that I speak of, but of simple love and friendship. President Branam was a shining individual who reminded us of the value of these things with every breath. He was a friend, to the last. May the gods smile fondly upon his fate."

With a slight nod, the cameras cut away, and the Emperor walked away from the scene of the broadcast with a heavy heart.

Queen Shelby stood in the Palace of Angels greeting hall, preparing herself before the crowd, to express the sorrow she feels for the loss of one of her greatest friends and allies. She climbed the steps, her servants holding her dress as she walked. She finally reached the microphone, her eyes filling with tears, and she cleared her throat.

"There are no words I could say to express the sorrow I feel. President Jarrod Branam was one of my closest personal friends, and life will not be the same without him. He was indeed and ingenious and wonderful leader, that instituted many wonderful policies, and paved the way to the creation of one of the world's most powerful alliances.

Despite what some nations may say, he did all he could to ensure tranquility. There is no doubt that he will be missed. I am sure that his wife, Kasilyn, will do everything in her power, to do as good a job as he has. Good luck Ms. Branam, you have been entrusted with a great honor to lead this wonderful and prosperous nation. Mark Winton was sitting in his throne when he heard the news of the death of Jarrod Branam. He suddenly felt a deep saddness towards the people of Jarridia and the widow left behind. He waved everyone out of the room, and for the first time as King of Brindisi, he was going to write a personal letter to Kasilyn.

Dearest Ms. Branam, President of Jarridia

It is with great sadness that I am writing to you at this time. The loss of Jarrod is a great tragedy, not only to the people of Jarridia, but to the entire Westwood Alliance as a whole. We have lost our creator, and founder, the very person that kept our alliance together and brought us hope.

Through every tragedy that be fell our nations, Jarrod never once lost his calm and collected attitude. He was indeed the pinnacle to our society, and a most esteemed leader, that any national figure could hope to be.

It was fully obvious to me, that he loved and cared for every aspect of his life. From protecting the people of Jarridia, to his family, he was never a harsh nor rash man. I wish you nothing but the best, and I know for a fact that you, Kasilyn, will make Jarridia as great as it has always been. From the bottom of my heart, and the hearts of all Brindi people, we're sorry for the loss, and good luck.

The President of the Federal Republic of Canada recently turned on the television in his office to be up-to-date with the news before making a call to speak with President Branam on Jarridian-Canadian Defense Intiatives to be renewed outside of the West Wood Alliance. He turned it onto Canadian Broadcasting Channel 1 as CBC News World appeared on the screen as the News Anchor had a sad low face as he made a new announcement after the picture of President Branam came up with the date of birth to death.

President Anthony Raymond Wittrock's mouth dropped as he turned on the volume as the anchor's voice announced that the President of Jarridia died in his sleep last night. He turned on the television as tears climbed down his face slowly, always been the emotional type of man of this sensitivity. President Jarrod Branam was only a minority of the Chief of Governments of the world that he trusted his life too.

He couldn't lift up his head as he pulled his hands together to rest on his knees as he kissed the floor lightly, he remembered his great discussions in their faiths in the Lord Jesus Christ, Jarrod was a believer!

President Wittrock lifted his hands in the air, "Dear Lord! I pray for my friend Branam's family that they'll live through this tragic event of the death of this well loved and unique man and comfort will come to them of their greatest memories with him. I included Lord, give me the wisdom of the words, to speak with the First Lady, the next President to sit in his place. Thank you for this great man, Amen."

To: Signora Kasilyn Joan Branam, President of Jarridia
From: Prime Minister Timothy Ell

It pains me greatly to hear of the passing of one of the world's greatest-ever leaders. Jarrod was a man of integrity, statesmanship and honour; always standing up for his people, and always doing the right thing for Jarridians and those past his frontiers. I will remember him as a man of courage and bravery, a man unafraid to make the right decision even if the majority opposed him.

I dearly hope that his passing was a peaceful event and that no exterior harm had befallen him, resulting in this untimely tragedy for a young, soulful man such as Signore Branam. I believe that this, and your belief in his policies, along with what I perceive as your excellent leadership abilities, will help guide Jarridia through these trying times. I believe you have the power and the skill to lead the charge and hold Jarridians up.

Please accept the heartfelt, genuine condolences of the Pacitalian people. We stand with you during your time of grief. Ma Jesucristo sea con tutta.

Shelbin, Jarridia; Presidential Palace

The day was dark and rainy as the President's body was prepared to begin its long journal to it's final resting place. The first-lady, now President-to-be, stood next to the coffin, which was closed, in her black dress, and black hat. She had been near expressionless all morning, and as Kim Shaffer spoke to her, she continued to make no humanistic gestures. The doors swung open and the procession was ready to make way. They would walk through the front courtyard of the palace, to the awaiting Presidential Limo and Hearse. The procession would lead them through the front gates of the palace, through central Shelbin, before all the awaiting Jarridians. The President's body, along with the first-lady, Secretary of State Kim Shaffer, Vice President Zach Finger, and other members of the cabinet and congress would head towards ther airport.

The first stop would be in Kiakor, then Corvica, followed by Regence, Westwood and finally back to Austin, where he would be buried. At each location there would be a vigil for all Jarridians to come and see their Greatest President, for the last time. In Austin will be the primary funeral, open casket, and will be for International friends and allies.

As the procession turned out the gates, there were no cheers, and no tears, all was quiet in Shelbin, which was strange for the morning. The entire nation had been shut down for a day of mourning. The Jarridian world had suddenly, without any warning or reason, lost all meaning and purpose.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kiakor, Jarridia; Kiakorian Convention Center

The procession had arrived in Kiakor at 2 p.m. Upon arrival, they were quickly wisked away from the airport, and driven to the Convention Center, were they were greeted by thousands upon thousands of waiting Jarridians. The convention center was packed, and their were lines that stretched for miles, just to enter and see their beloved leader. Even inside the full auditorium, there were no sounds, even the children themselves had ceased to cry, though none of them fully understood the urgency of the situation.

The weather in Kiakor was rather pleasant, though a Tropical Strom watch had been issued in the last few hours, as Tropical Storm Dirk closed in on the Jarridian coast.

The time in Kiakor would be well spent, as Kasilyn made her first appearances to the people since the President's death. She was undoubtedly nervous, but tried her best to remain calm and collected. Kim had informed her to try and appear strong, so that the citizens would feel as if they had nothing to worry about, but Kasilyn was beginning to have second thoughts about the entire situation. While sitting next to the coffin, she put her head down in her hands, and slowly began to cry. Kim quickly pulled her up and walked her our of the main stage.

"I know this is hard Kasilyn, and I understand, "Kim said, "but you have to try and stay collected, or there will be even more problems to worry about."

Kasilyn looked at her with tears streaming down her face, "I know, but its just too hard to believe that he is gone. All of this just isn't possible."

Kim only nodded at the statement and wiped Kasilyn's tears away, "Everything will be just fine."

The wbet back out into the masses of people, and the vigil went on into the night, until finally the doors were closed at 12:00 a.m.

Those who had come from Shelbin, were exhausted by this time, but they had no choice but to continue on their journey. They loaded back into the Limo, and continued to the Kiakorian Internation Airport for the awaiting plane.

Adrian watched the International News Center and sighed sadly as he heard the death of Jarrod Branam. He saw the way the people cried and mourned and was touched. This man was an obviously one of greatness and well respected by the international community.

He quickly prepared his own speech feeling it needs to be personal even more then the other ones he wrote. He never knew the man but he seemed good enough to deserve the attention of all of Eternus Lumen. After finishing it quickly he called for an emergency broadcast thinking how many he had called in the past week.

Finally fifteen minutes later the camera was rolling and Adrian was speaking,

"Dear members of the international community. It brings me great pain to see such misery and sadness in a nation but it also tells me something. This man, Jarrod Branam was a great man. Though I never knew him personally his achievements stand out merely in his own people.

Jarrod, if I may call him that, must have also been a great diplomat to the international as well seeing the number of messages sent to Jarridia. The deep sadness in everyone's voice as well when they gave speeches regarding the President's death touched me even though as I say again, I never knew the man.

I know this may not mean much coming from a nation in which you never had contact but our hearts and prayers go out to your nation. May God forever bless your country. Thank you."

Corvica, Jarridia; Jason B. Hubbard Stadium

It was nearly 7:30 in the morning, when the Presidential plane touched down in the pouring rain that had gripped Corvica over the past few days. The usually lively coastal metropolis, was quiet and nearly dead. The plane taxied to the gate designated for it, and everyone proceeded to exit. Hundreds of people stood at the gate, awaiting to see the first-lady and their beloved President's body, but still, there were no sounds. The procession progressed out of the airport and to the stadium, where thousands of people had turned out in the pouring rain to say their good byes. Every Corvicarian, like every other Jarridian, felt lost and hopeless. The pride that was their nation had fallen, and the direction that they had always followed was gone.

People were allowed to view the body until 7:30 that night, when it was removed and taken back to the airport. However the plane did not take off as everyone on board was allowed to rest for several hours. Their next destination was atleast 6 hours away, in the border Metropolis of Regence.
