Overall

The CAS-2 new Bullpup Assault designed to replace the M-16, M-4, M8, Tavor, AK-74 and its derivatives, G36 and most other real life assault rifles. It combines accuracy, range, magazine capacity, stopping power, and technology all in one rifle package.

Design

The CAS-2 is of a bullpup design to make the rifle shorter and lighter while still having a long barrel. This quality of being small and light has been requested by soldiers for a long time and is reflected in the designs of the M8 and M-4. To further the rifles design of being light and durable, the rifle is made largely out of plastics, composites, and titanium. It should be noted that the gun fires electronically; there are no other moving parts in the trigger mechanism other than the trigger itself.

Ammunition

The CBMR, or Caseless Blended Metal Round, is a 6.5 x 45mm 130 grain Caseless round with a Blended Metal bullet. It is based on a modified 6.5 Grendal cartridge. The round is remarkable in that it stays supersonic beyond 1,000 meters. This round is also very accurate. At 800 meters a decent shooter can fire the whole 60 round magazine in a 8 in diameter group, while using semi-auto or 3 round burst. These combined give the rifle and excellent effective range while having recoil similar to a 5.56 NATO round. This, along with the long and well crafted barrel, give this assault rifle unprecedented range and accuracy.

Electronics

Built into the rifle are a laser rangefinder that can give its information to any attachment and red dot laser sight that can switch between a regular red dot or an invisible infrared dot. These 2 systems work together in that the laser designator controls the red dot sight so that it changes elevation based on range; ensuring that the dot is where the bullet will hit.

Other electronic options include an infrared/night vision/TV gun camera that can be mounted on top of the rifle so that it can be aimed around corners or over objects.

Accessories

The CAS-2 can mount many accessories on top, bottom, and both sides of the weapon. These include flashlights, different sights, submachineguns, and a 25mm multi-munition launcher. The launcher is mounted under the barrel of the rifle and can fire a wide range of smart munitions including frag grenades, concussion grenades, flashbangs, non-lethal ammunition, a shotgun-like pellet munition, HEAT rounds (200mm CE), and a special rocket powered top-attack munition (175mm CE).

Combat Conditioning

To make sure the rifle and its components were combat ready, it was tested extensively. The whole system was tested in a variety of conditions ranging from Antarctica to the jungles of Southeast Asia, to the deserts of the Middle East. It functioned after being frozen and thawed and was even submerged in mud; it fired. The ammunition was a main concern during testing. It was fired after being soaked in sea water, and functioned after being set in the sun during 120 degree weather for a period of 3 days. Needless to say, it will work in any condition you put it into.

[OOC: One question; why support being able to sling a submachine gun under the barrel or attaching one to the side of it? In the situations where one would be of use, wouldn't a combat shotgun be of more use?]

[It's just in case you want to use one. You can operate the attachments using the trigger of the regular rifle. Sometimes you just want to have the SMG/PDW under there incase you get a suprise while reloading.

EDIT: The multi-launcher can use a shotgun type round and the launcher and SMG only go under the barrel, not on the side.]

OOC: Although the stats and pictures are extremely nice, I happen to be prejudice against the idea of carrying around several different accessories for one gun, takes alot of space. Anyway, nice job.

This post has been marked as OOC. Thank you.

OOC:

I'm wondering if either USSNA or Doomingsland could help me develop Sharinan based firearms and such? I've been struggling trying to develop decent equipment to give my nation a chance aganist NS stuff.

So far, I only have two custom equipment, but they probably fall within 2010 - 2030 timeframe. My Paragon MBT and my Colossus Artillery. However, I have no idea how to work out guns, APC's, and Army stuff. :(

OOC:Well, I'd have no problem just selling you my rifle, but I could always help you out if your intent on something indigenously produced (if not, me and USSNA may be coming out with a jointly designed rifle soon enough)

OOC:

Thanks, I appreciate it, Doom. I'm looking into either store bought stuff (then build my stuff modeled after the store stuff) or design projects. Imagine a partnership between a militant empire and a technological empire. ;)

It seems to have a suprisingly high effective range, but otherwise good.
USSNA
28-08-2005, 12:45
My responce to that would be that it's barrel is as long as a sniper rifle barrel and in some cases longer. The ammunition in RL (Cased 6.5 Grendel round) showed that using a modifiyed M-16, at 900 yard decent shooters were able to averge 6.5 inch groupings.

It should also be noted that that range is for the 3 round burst. Single shot is accurate at that range, but loses power. The 3 round burst keeps a lot of energy at that range due to it having 3 times the power of the single shot.
SkyCapt

Is it for sale?
USSNA
28-08-2005, 14:39
Let me do a little research and I'll price it.
SkyCapt
28-08-2005, 14:44
I'd say about $600-800 is right. $1,000 is also good, but maybe a little high.
USSNA
28-08-2005, 14:53
$1100 for the basic rifle. Higher price due to some of the lightweight componets invloved.

an additional $500 for the Multi-Launcher.

If you want the TV Guncamera, it is $450 extra per gun.

And regular flashlights and regular sights can mount on the rifle.

10,000 rounds of ammo costs $600
SkyCapt

We'd like to place an order for 20,000 Standard Version Rifles. $22,000,000 has been wired.

OOC: That price is correct, I used a calculator. My bombers cost more than this. Lol.

Your order is confirmed, the weapons will be built and shipped within 4 months.
