Thrashia

"I would have won I would have...if not for the damn Guard! All my careful planning and strategies useless...all because of a mass of las-gun wielding foot-sloggers."-General Marquise, After his defeat at the battle of Kadarn

The planet Thrashia was settled by the Imperium of Man some 30,000 years before, in the time of the Great Crusade. Since then it became a thriving world inwhich the Administratum and Adeptus Mecanicus each thrived in their own agendas and where the Imperial Guard garnered many recruits.

Through the beaucracy and mire that is the Planetary Government, the people of Thrashia still continue to move on with their lives of working in factories and machine shops, with a few given the immortallity of being conscripted into the glorious forces that make up the Emperor's armies.

As a Administratum scribe it is my duty to make written the accounts of the planet Thrashia. Though it is but one of thousands in the Imperium, I find no lack of worth in my duty.

To begin with I will start with the local military forces present on Thrashia...

Equipment and Vehicles of the Imperial Guard

The Imperial Guards real strength lies in its numbers, which it does well, often times winning battles because of sheer masses of loyal and devout Guardsmen armed with little more than a las-gun and a bayonet. But the Emperor's fury is truelly shown in His Guardsmen's tanks.

The Chimera Transport is the main vehicle of the Guard. Each regiment has at least two full companies capable of being mounted on these. Each one is capable of carrying a single platoon of 10 men. It is armed with a heavy bolter in a top mounted turrent.

Salamander Assault Support Transport

The Salamander is a very versatile vehicle. Guard commanders often have converted Salamanders that they use as a command vehicles, where vox communications are centered and allows him to move about the battlefield fairly easily. The main type used by Thrashian regiments is a open top Salamander armed with a 70mm cannon for supporting attacks.

Leman Russ Main Battle Tank

The Leman Russ is the main-stay of the Imperial Guard armored regiments. Several different paterns and conversions of the origninal chasi exist leaving most guard regiments armed with them and shaped according from where they hail from. The Thrashian Guard uses mostly the Leman Russ armed with the turrented double 90mm cannon, with the chasi mounted 120mm howitzer, as well as two or more heavy bolters.

Medusa Mobile Mortor Artillery

The Medusa is a mobile heavy mortor platform. Used by the Guard to clear a path to the enemy. Firing very large heavy explosive shells, the Medusa is truelly a terrifying and fierce peice of artillery.

Hydra Mobile Anti-Air Flak Cannons

The Hydra is one of the Guards best defenses against enemy air untis besides other fighters. The heavy cannons themselves fire powerful bursts of laser fire, able to take down anything from the skies. Though never much used in this way, the Thrashian Guard commanders have been known to use the Hydra the same as a regular tank, having it used against enemy infantry. As unorthidox as this seems, its past trials in this manner have proved successful.

Baneblade Super Heavy Tank

From the depths of the factorium of the Adeptus Mechanicus comes the Baneblade. A true form of the Emperor's wrath. The Baneblade is the Guard's Super Heavy Tanks. Because they are so huge and have such varying degrees of cannon armaments no two Baneblades are alike. The Thrashian Guard comander Lord General Xerxes has one as his own personal transport, as well as commands 4 others similair to it. The Baneblade truelly inspires fear and wrath into the enemies of the Imperium and increased faith in those who fight for Him.

Guard Infantry Types

The Imperial Guard is mostly made of what are known as Guard Regulars, men and women both compile to make these. They are armed with a standard issue Las-gun, bayonet, flak jacket, helment, tan uniform, boots, and their own faith in the Emperor. Each Guardsmen goes through 8 months of training on Thrashia, twice as long as the Adminstratum crede states, but Thrashian commanders have always thought that the extra training helps.

A Imperial Guard Platoon, Regulars

There are also platoons and companies of regulars who are special trained as Shock troops, but they often times are carted off by the Inquisition who uses them for its own divine purposes in the Emperor's name.

The cream and best trained and armed troops in the Imperial Guard are the Stormtroopers. Used to infiltrate enemy territory and often times the deciding factor in a fire fight, the Stormtroopers are a force to recon with. Armed with heavy las-guns, and other confidential weapons the Imperial Guard Stormtroopers are truelly the best.

Imperial Guard Command Structure
The command structure of an Imperial Guard regiment is as follows.

The lowest number of men in a unit is called a Fire Team made of 5 Guardsmen, next step is a squad made up of two Fire Teams(10); next is a platoon which is two squads togethor(20); after that is a Company made up of 10 platoons (200); Next is the regiment itself made up of 5 Companies, bringing the full regiment doctrine count to 1,000 Guardsmen.

The officer structure exists as this: A sergeant commands a squad, a Lieutenant commands a Platoon; A company is commanded by a captain, but the fifth company is commanded by a major; Then the regiment is commanded by a colonel who has a personal squad of troops.

Besides regular officers in the Guard each regiment also has a Commissar, who is outside the regular chain of command yet part of of it at the same time. The commissar executes the Emperor's will, by shooting any Guardsmen who are disloyal or to punish those who make infractions in the regiment. Its often times that a commissar is disliked by the regiment that plays host to him becase of the duties that the Commissar holds, yet some are liked and even treasured by the regiments who have them.

A Imperial Guard Division is often times a motly crue so-to-speak as they can vary in sizes from 40,000 men to 120,000. It largely depends of the planetry government that conscripts the troops, the Administratum leaves their orginization up to the Planetary government to decide the size of a division.

Thrashian Lord General Xerxes has made all Thrashian Divisions to keep a doctrine of 100,000 strong Guard divisions. So far the planet has fielded some 40 divisions of infantry, 10 of Armored regiments, as well as other units and operational crewmen for the Emperor's Fleet, and the Planetary Defense Force (PDF) which police the planet.

In the name of the Immortal Emperor, until my next journal entry.
