The Council of Nine Sultans today issued a decree creating a tenth Sultanate, Kurdistan, in northern Iraq. The majority of the Kurdish popultation in Iraq is within the brown, pink, and purple areas in the above map. However, the Kurdish areas near the Euphrates river are not included, and will remain part of Iraq. The capital of the new Sultanate will be Mosul, and the newly appointed Sultan is Mohammed al-Shammar. Due to the large Kurdish population in nearby areas, immigrating Kurds will be allowed a reduced 1-year wait for citizenship instead of the standard 5-year wait. Turkey has the largest population of Kurds, but Syria and Iran also have large populations that may move to Kurdistan.

Some proponents of the creation of Northern India, a division of the massive Indian Sultanate, claim that this means their requests must be fufilled, if only to make a majority vote possible. The Sultans have made no statement that could confirm or deny the planned creation of said Sultante, but the outbreak of war makes it likely that it will not happen soon.
