Leafanistan
22-08-2005, 03:44
After years of collaboration with SWC nations and the Tokera, Leafanistan releases its second generation UCAV. For this revolution in airpower the remote control option was dropped due to delays in its transmission and action. A delay that was unacceptable in combat conditions where even 2 seconds mean life or death of hundreds.
Using F-16s that were destined for the scrapyard, they were heavily modified. The pilot's seat was removed and instead the front bulb contains the UCAV's front-facing "eyes" along with a LASER rangefinder and the MASER turret. There is a second MASER turret below the front to take out SAMs, however only one can operate at a time. Without life-support systems and many safety systems there was enough room to install the most critical component. The Taps Tactical Niche Intelligence, or Taps N.I.
Artificial Intelligence Unit
Based on the human brain structure, scientists years ago developed sentient computers. Using pre-programmed bonds on their thinking, they only care for the mission and the protection of the user.
A small advanced memory crystal 7 cm^2 in size costing 1.1 million USD is the heart of this system. It uses a fiber optic computer to harden it against EMPs. Then a series of hardened hard drives with dampening systems stores data. Reaction time is nearly inperceptable compared to stimulus input time.
Using Tokera technology the Objective Learning Technology System allows UAV's and UCAV's to fly with pilots on combat missions to observe, learn, and improve on pilots capabilities, moves, and strategies. the system also allows the UCAV to learn be constantly learning from its enemies and improving its moves to counter the enemies. This information can be shared between all other UCAVs through the network data link.
Identification Friend or Foe Threat Assesment System (IFFTAS)- allows the UCAV to accuire targets and engage them according to threat level. Can destinglish from friend or foe. Currently Leafanistani models take advantage of Friend or Foe tags embedded in all Leafanistani planes.
Another Tokera innovation the Attack/defence coodination system(ADCS)- allows the UCAV to corrdinate attacks or defence with other UCAVs. Over their secure network, if a connection cannot be established with the local battlenet, the UCAV will operate independently.
The Automated Refueling, Rearming (ARR)- allows the UCAV to be landed, then refueled & rearmed without need of a crew, then the systems is capable of launching the UCAV again (coupled with a Automated refueling rearming station)
The Automated Refueling Aircraft designated US(R)-50 "Candyman" is a low-input unmanned aircraft capable of holding a steady position and refueling manned and unmanned aircraft, currently in use with all SWC nations and Tokera. (OOC: Lets just insert that infrastructure...)
Armament and Detection Equipment
Based on the F-16C/D, it features conformal fuel tanks and improved radar and avionics. The General Electric F110-132 is a development of the -129 model and is rated at 32,500 lbf (144 kN). A major difference from previous Blocks is the Northrop Grumman APG-80 Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar. This UCAV allows the carriage of all Block 50/52 aircraft-compatible weaponry as well as ASRAAM and the AGM-84E Standoff Land Attack Missile (SLAM). The CFTs provide an additional 450 US gallons (2,045 litres) of fuel allowing increased range or time on station. This has the added benefit of freeing up hardpoints for weapons, i.e. hardpoints that would have been occupied by underwing fuel tanks.
The advantage of using an N.I. besides loss of pilots is the ability for the aircraft to utilize the inherently unstable F-16 platform to perform 9g+ turns and manuvuers taking full advantage of the aircraft's abilities.
Size:

* Height: 4.69 m
* Wingspan: 11.13 m
* Wing area: 34.84 m²
Weight:
* Empty: 9,527 kg
* Normal takeoff: 15,000 kg (?)
* Maximum: 22,100 kg
Speed: mach 2.3 at altitude
Ceiling: about 18 km.
Range:
* Range: more than 2,000 miles ferry range
Wing loading: 430 kg/m² at weight of 15,000 kg
Armament: 20mm cannon, plus maximum weapon load of 8085 kg:
* AAMs: AIM-9 Sidewinder, AIM-7 Sparrow, Mitsubishi AAM-3
* air-to-ground weapons include: ASM-1 and ASM-2 anti-ship missiles, various free-fall bombs with CGS-1 IIR seeker heads
This weapon is available only to SWC nations and the Tokera.
Current Leafanistani designation is the: UC-16 "Red-eye Falcon"
The Taps Tactical N.I. is sold only to SWC nations and the Tokera, the equipment required to manage them is also restricted.
Recent intelligence indiciates these cost $5 million US to modify from existing F-16 platforms.
It costs $35 million to build them from scratch.
