The Prime Minister of Makaar today made the following address to his people and to the people of the international community:

"My friends,

Today at 1022 hours Makaarian Standard Time, the Royal Armed Forces of Makaar conducted a nuclear test of a 1 gigaton warhead on the uninhabited and remote island of Rakaaria, where a successful result was recorded. We do this in response to growing nuclear proliferation among tiny nations, which we feel threatened by, even though our nation numbers well over a billion people.

The test was conducted by an army unit that was stationed on the island and observed from a distance of 10 kilometres by the Royal Navy. The blast was monitored and recorded very well, and our scientists are working to interpret the data now.

To any nations who would dare attack Makaar, let it be known that retaliation will be swift, surprising, brutal, and punishing. We will not use these missiles for any purpose other than to defend Makaar or its interests overseas."

Mondoth Congratulates the nation of Makaar on the scientific advancement made in creating a nuclear weapon and cautions Makaar to exercise great judgement before using these most powerful of weapons.

I find it somewhat disturbing that a nation of rather... small stature would be so interested in creating atomic weaponry for defensive purposes. In any case, that was not what drew me to this particular news statement on my desk. What drew me to it, was the fact that the Prime Minister of the Makaarian administration would be so bold as to threaten nations who are capable of completely decimating it.

This in no way is a countering threat to yours'; comrades within the Soviet Union are above such vile bickering. We merely wish to warn the Makaarian 'constitutional monarchy' that certain clauses within the Soviet legislature and foreign policy - most notably the Worldwide Mir Initiative - give the Soviet armed forces the ability to inquire about the neccessity of certain nations to obtain weapons of mass destruction

It disturbs me to find that a nation as small and naive as Makaar wish to dive head first into the 'atmoic slime vat'. May I inquire as to why you are so determined to create a nuclear arsenal? OOC: my mistake, I thought it was a 100 Megaton Device, I know that its the only one ever test fired to my knowledge. but still the idea of a 1 Gigaton nuke is absurd (for MT) I know Bravo wasn't supposed to be as big as it was but they put to much accelorant into it...which created a 25megaton detonation scoring Bikina Atol off the map and making several other near by islands uninhabitable

Actually, my nation is FT. We just haven't seen any need to make nuclear weapons.

We congratulate the government of Makaar on nuking its own scientists, as being 10km away from a blast that large would have made them feel the effects of the weapon.

Ya. Makaar you fried yourselves and probably that large of force could have set off earthquakes and created a tidal wave and probably would have wrecked your coast.

If America can use a non nuclear weapon and blow the top off a mountain in Afgahnistan and then the resulting earthquake registers a 2 in Pakistan that is kinda proof that this island is completely dead or non-existant. With such a force on a ISLAND, the shock waves at least created a massive tidal wave.

Leafanistan is disgusted and outraged that you immediately declare war on a nation like this. Leafanistan instead condemns your imperialist actions. In order to make sure that such aggression will not happen we shall send a force in international waters near his borders to make sure that Makaar is unmolested.

If it were done a fault line it could. Though I still have no idea of what a term would be to trigger the seimosgraphs by a weapon! It would be an artifical 'quake', but on an island from the sheer force and power would have a good chance of creating large waves. Tsunami size....quite possible in Kjata Majors many inlets where wave power is amplified.

(OOC: I'm pretty sure there's a practical upper limit on the destructive capability of a nuclear weapon. After a certain point (well below 1 gigaton) most of the bomb's energy is absorbed by the atmosphere. Which leads one to wonder why someone would bother producing a 1 gigaton bomb to begin with, but it's really none of my business if Makaar wants to spend his tax money that way.)

As of this moment we congradulate you on your first test preforming as expected however with this message we also bring bad news. Radiological levels along the Paradise Defensive Line (30 small islands to the South of Phalanix) has risen to considerable levels that have raised several eyebrows. At the same time the radiation medication has been used at a far more increased rate and we are billing you for the medication.
