FR-1 "Survivor" Main Battle Tank
Purpose: Only recently has the Democratic Republic of Familinia decided to take a leap of faith and begin developing their own tanks. The FR-1 is the result of that leap of faith. While even the government admits that compared to most other nations advanced tanks, the FR-1 wouldn't stand up against them. It is the fact that the tank passed all requirements that thrills the government. On a side note, the FR-1 was developed by "Fortress Designs".
Armaments: The FR-1's primarily aramament is a 125mm smoothbore gun. The smoothbore was desgined, developed, and built by 'Fortress Desgins'. Mounted on top of the tank, sits a 12.5mm co-axial machinegun which is electronically controlled from inside the tank. There is also a spot on the right of the open hatch where another 12.5mm co-axial machinegun may be positioned to be electronically controlled. The gun can also double as an anti-aircraft weapon. On top of which, if done correctly, a small missle launcher can be placed where the second optional 12.5mm co-axial machinegun can be positioned.
Armor: The FR-1's armor is different from the more common tanks, as it incorperates two layers of armor and has an overall thick armor. The first layer of the FR-1's armor is a three inch composite-type armor. The second layer is only an inch thick but incorperates depeleted uranium. The current doctrine of Familinia's Armored Corps is primarily one of reasonable speed with thick, defensive armor. Speed and primary armament damage suffer due to this doctrine.
Dimensions: Length (including main armament) 33 ft., width 11ft 5in., 9ft 6in.
Weight: 135,320lbs.
Engine/Propulsion: The FR-1's engine was the most difficult part of the tank to get right. The desire for at least reasonable speed, while not having to decrease armor to make the tank faster caused several engineerings problems. However, in the end "Halo Motors", a domestic car manufacturing company developed an engine known as the 'Halo Motors RSM-2200'. The engine itself is a hydro-diseal hybrid design, which gives the tank a top speed of 40mph on road, and about 27mph average on rough terrain. Developments and testing with the engine is still occuring, due to a few minor mechanical problems, such as overheating.
