Nomads' End...Santaria's Beginning [FT; Intro Post; Open]

Santaria Orion IV
19-08-2005, 01:57
Sultan Emil-had-Jazeer stared into the viewscreen, admiring the planet below; a jewel amongst the void it was, nestled amongst the glittering starscape. Vast blue oceans and swirling white stormfronts covered the surface of Santaria Orion IV. Six continents covered 24% of the planet's surface, mountains and deserts being the most prevalent terrain type. Massive blue rivers and lakes stood out upon the landscape like the veins of a creature's body bringing life to the planet.

The Sultan stood upon the deck of the colony fleet's flagship, the Effulgent Scimitar. Once a massive cargo freighter over a kilometer long, the Effulgent Scimitar had been converted to serve as the hub of the fleet's search. Over 5 million human men and women dwelled in the refitted cargo and exploration ships. They had wandered the galaxy for longer than even their eldest could remember as merchants, traders and explorers.

Now at last they had found a home.

Santaria Orion IV was perfect; gravitational forces were rated at 1.019 times TSG (Terran Standard Gravity) and the atmosphere was nearly identical to Terra's. Now it belonged to the Jazeerian fleet which he led bravely to their fate upon the blasted rock. All 486 ships swarmed into orbit, their weathered and ancient hulls accepting the fate that had come before them.

Each ship had a predesignated landing zone; each ship's population had accepted the fate before them. Every scrap of large metal had been used to increase the structural integrity of the ship's skeleton. Every colonist had strapped themselves to the hull with their families, praying to the Jazeerian gods for a safe landing.

Emil knew what he was getting into and he had explained it thoroughly to all his people. They all knew the risks of settling down and claiming a corner of the galaxy as their own. He felt no remorse when he gave his final order to the fleet.

"May the gods be with us...Engage."

Three Weeks Later...

Everything had gone smoothly.

Out of 5 million people, not one single member of the Sultanate had died during the landing. The hull of each ship became the centerpiece of each city and each had crash-landed into or near a mighty river or lake. The population had begun to thrive amongst the fertile green shores of the deep blue water. It had taken less than a week for the fleet's doctors to innoculate the population against the native diseases.

Engines, computer systems, weapons, scrap metal. Much had been salvaged by the colonies and used to improve the ancient shuttlecraft that now served as the basis of their fleet. The Sultan had created what seemed like paradise compared to the dark corridors of the Jazeerian freighters. The Sultan had freed them from their exile, an exile so long that none remembered why they had been cast out.

The only thing the Sultan had not accounted for was the awakening of a massive energy disruption near the edge of the system coupled with the rather large (albeit old) energy signature of nearly 500 ships passing through the system. His people remained blissfully unaware of the fact that any interstellar faction with sensors even a hundred years old would have noticed them.

Onboard the IYS Ilitar, a petrolling LMV-244 Saracen
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

He paced up and down, his eyes intent upon the glowing light that was the command center of his LMV-244 Saracen. He was due for an upgrade soon, either the 245, or the recently tested 251. He duly noted that he had been in line for an upgrade for over a year now, but the front office kept delaying it. He supposed that meant he was to be used for a teast, possible for the 252.

Then, a man wearing a black suit, like all of the crew, leapt forward, his eyes wide. "Sir, a signal!" Nodding, the captain raced after him, sptrinting into the Command Room. He checked the signals. They were certainly huge. Whoever had made this was using outdated equipment, or had no idea about the dangers of space. He grinned. This would be his ticket to an upgrade.

Greeting, unidentified signal! Who are you? We have not noticed you before. We are the Imperial Yaforite Empire, under the grace of The Unliving One! We repeat, who are you?

OOC:Bleh, bad post, I'm tired right now.

IC:

Kledarian Jalson sat at the commsuite onboard the wreckage of the Effulgent Scimitar, listening to the comm traffic. It was just the usual stuff you hear from air traffic control, patrolling shuttlecraft, police reports. He had almost been dozing off when a powerful signal came into being from somewhere outside of the planet's airspace.

Activating the communications console almost immediately, the strange message came through, garbled by background radiation. It took almost ten seconds of running it through the old, battered console and technology to clean and translate the message.

Greeting, unidentified signal! Who are you? We have not noticed you before. We are the Imperial Yaforite Empire, under the grace of The Unliving One! We repeat, who are you?

Muttering a curse, he hit a button activating one of the ship's last remaining systems: the red alert. Klaxons sounded and the lights dimmed to a dull red; the ship was alerted. Remembering his job, he cleared his throat and activated his console.

Greetings! We are the Sultanate of Santaria Orion IV, a new colony descended from the nomadic Jazeerian fleet. We have only just come to this world - which we believe is in neutral space - to make a home for ourselves.

His eyes dark, the captain stared at the entire control room in anger. Whoever these fools were, their certainly took their own sweet time. No Yaforite like waiting; they were a very impatient people, and many detested latenss as well. The captain sighed. It was a cultural pet peeve, he knew, but he couldn't help himself. After all, no human was immune to his/her culture, since, of course, that being never chose the said entity. So, he figured it was regular for him to be impatient.

His thoughts were interrupted by a soft beeping noise on one of the monitors. In his anger, he turned to it, his fist drawn back, in anger. So it must have been outdated equipment that had kept them from responding. He knew that this would help them. It was easier to contact civilizations if you knew that you were stronger than them. He read it.

Greetings! We are the Sultanate of Santaria Orion IV, a new colony descended from the nomadic Jazeerian fleet. We have only just come to this world - which we believe is in neutral space - to make a home for ourselves.

The captain wasted no time in a reply, sent hurridly because of the weakness of their systems.

Interesting. Nomads. It is no wonder then, that you are not used to the powers of the galaxy. There is no neutral space, anymore. There are empires and alliances, great and mighty forces battling for power over massive dominions of land, sea, and space. Newer colonies like you need a helping hand, a guide through this morass of lies and deceit. We offer our hand. Do you accept?

The captain also sent another message, to Flotilla Commander Charles Gudanov, to bring in Boarag Attack Force II and Boarag Attack Force IV, which were in the area. If another nation appeared, or these were lying and were actually a hostile mighty empire, he would need all the backup he could get.

OOC:Will you be on a lot in the coming days? Often newer nations post once and disappear and you are an excellent RP'er (and this is a good RP) so in case I have to leave (like now) then I want to continue the RP and not lose and RP'er of your talent.

Kledarian pursed his lips as the next transmission came in. This signal was cleaner, easier to hear; combined with the knowledge the aging computer gained from the last transmission, it was ready in six seconds as opposed to ten.

The comm officer pursed his lips in confusion, then shook his head and sent a response as quickly as possible.

Truly we are behind the times, for even our greatest elders do not recall what life was like before we began to wander. If what you say is true, then the security we hoped to gain by settling may be compromised. I am a mere communications officer and representative; as such I have no say in what the Sultanate may do. Given standard response times, my liege - Sultan Amil-had-Jazeer I - should arrive within 4 minutes at most.

Pursing his lips he reflexively let his hand slide to the somewhat primitive 8.47mm solid-slug pistol at his side, the smooth metal hilt comforting him. His heart audibly pounded in his chest as he waited for a reply from the first alien contact made since the Jazeerian fleet settled.

HES Andromeda

The HES Andromeda was a Hiigaran catorigazation vessel manned by a small number of Sobani kiith of the Hiigaran empire. It roamed the galaxy, charting unknown worlds that often even the most ancient Bentusi had not thought of to visit. Or so the Bentusi said. The ship, deviod of weapons, and being rather small for a Hiigaran frigate class ship -- scarcely 100 meters in length -- had intercepted all the communications that were in the area, in a hope to find new life among this apparent dead end of the galaxy. They had found nothing for weeks, and it seemed that this space was as dead as the Great Wastelands themselves. Then, just as the ship prepared for a jump, it intercepted a communication. The transmission was very weak, and the comms officers aboard couldn't even make out words of it, but it was transmission from sentient life, nonetheless.

"Drives are preped, rupturing slipspace in--" the navigational officer was cut off as a comms officer stood up and shouted.

"Stop now! Emergency shut down of drives! We have a valid transmission signal, one-hundred-ninety-two kilometers starboard!"

"What?" the Captain said, amazed.

"Yes sir! Order halt!"

"Helm! Come to full stop, vent power to emergency storage, and re-make a jump solution to the transmission's location, now!"

"Yes sir! Re-routing power now."

The ship's engines wound down as the prepared energy was spread throughout the ship in a controlled method. Lights shined like the sun, the entire hull flashed white, and shields were boosted to 600% in a desperate attempt to drain the power enough to store in the emergency cells. At last the power was sufficient, and the cells registered full, and nearly over-heated. They needed to use the energy fast, or face a possible melt-down.

"We have power-down, solution ready. Initiate jump?" Helm asked. He didn't wait for a reply, however, as he re-keyed the solution into the navigation system. He had alredy started to rupture into slipspace as the ok was given. In a matter of seconds, the ship was there. It's gate closed behind it, the system found it's location, and discovered that it was 200 meters to the right of where it had wanted to be, but under such extenuaing circumstances, and with so little time, it was a good jump none-the-less. The main viewscreen refreshed as the entire system did, and reported that the jump, with the exception of a few over-used conduits, was without incident. The main viewscreen showed a massive, beautiful hunk of earth and sky and water, that looked like a hybrid of Kharak and Hiigara -- the two worlds that their race had called home, and call home to Hiigara now again. It also showed, not ten kilometers to port, a massive collection of warships.

What a beautiful planet..., though commander Risienti Soban.

"Forward comms," hailed the commander, "contact defence station Soban. Tell them that we might have a situation. Tell them that we'll contact them every fifteen minutes until the situation is rectified. You're in charge of it. If we don't respond on time, tell them to prepare for war."

"Yes sir, right away." the man got to work immediately, using long-range, ftl communications operating under the strictest protocol and priority 1, class A encryptions. Only the Bentusi, the Soban Defence Staion heads, and the Diamid would be able to understand this message.

"Hail the ship in high orbit. Let them know who we are."

"Yes sir."

Broadcasted in the clear:
We are the Hiigaran Empirial Ship Andromeda. We are a communication and cartography vessel that has jumped to this planet to make peaceable relations with any and all forces possible. We wish to establish communications with the dwelers of this fine gem they have found to possibly initiate non-agression pacts and trade.

Christopher Thomson, IYS stands for Imperial Yaforite Ship. The real name of my country is The Grand Democratic Duchy, though I refer to my FT nation as "The Empire" (I RP both FT and MT).

To add to that, at the time of your post I only had one ship in orbit, the IYS Ilitar. (of course, now I'm bringing in1/4th of my army along with it's best general, but that's for fun).

And to add to that...you don't threaten FT Yafor 2. It's ruled by a maniacal dictator who crushes everything in his path...cliched, I know, but I've challenged much larger nations and beaten them. IRL, I'm a nice guy and most of my people are (they hate the dictator), but, still, no threats...Anyway...my post!

Aboard the IYS Iglesias, a Boarag Intergalctic Battlecruiser
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Flotilla Commander Charles Gudanov was a man who had a history in making decisions that had changed the course of history. He was the one who had fought the huge and powerful Dooman fleet, pushing them to the very limit, while slaughtering their hordes and destroying much of their entire army. In the end, his bravery that day merited the lives of many Yaforites.

He too had made the decision to close those plantary straits which had eventually been fought over by Doomingsland and himself. He had faced the Chronosians eye to eye, the mighty empire that nations twice the size of Yafor 2 trembeled at the mention of. He had fought them and beat them, thrashing their scouts and sending them home, with a message, "We are not afraid".

Now, once again, he faced a momentous decision, one tht might forever change the lives of millions on the planet below. No, it would change their lives. He had been called in by the captain of the IYS Ilitar to deal with this situation. The other captain was a fool, the mighty general thought, an utter fool. Flotilla Commadner Gudanov hated making decisions when people's lives and livelihoods were on the line. He made them every day.

He recieved the two messages with scorn. After a few moment, he decided to ignore the second, without any hesitation. No one threatened the Yaforite Empire. The first, however, was a much more intriguing matter, one that would have to be handeled as if it were easily breakable glass. His reply was prompt and short, but hinted that he had something much more meaningful to say.

Good. I will introduce myself there; I have the authority to converse with him face to face. I presume that I have landing clearance

Without waiting for a response, the mighty hulk of steel and weaponry that was the IYS Iglesias moved slowly downwards, ending it's decent with and awkward thump onto the soft soil. The ship may be powerful, but it was not a landing ship. The Flotilla Commander himself stayed inside the ship; he was not yet convinced of their good intentions. If need be, the Freebooter B-Class ships that were in the carrier bay of the Boarag could be used as a diversion for liftoff. All would be reveal later, the Flotilla Commander eassured himself, yes, time revealed everything.

Oh, right. I'll make the change in future posts.

To add to that, at the time of your post I only had one ship in orbit.

Oh. I thought that they were there already.

And to add to that...you don't threaten FT Yafor 2.

Did I? Where did I threaten you? I asked why you had so many ships in high orbit. Is that a threat? I came here to make peace, not war. The only ship here is a Cartography (mapping) ship. With no weapons. Had I wished to threaten you, I would have brought a compliment of battlecruisers and destroyers here and obliterated you. If I wanted war, I would have made it already. Please stop taking everything I post as a threat. If you saw a nation of five mil. surrounded by 1/4 of another nations armed forces, what would you assume?

And to be perfectly honest, I don't think either of us want war right now, especially you. No matter how strong your military may be, you have the following attribues:
Economic Rating: Weak
Civil Rights Rating: Below Average
Political Freedoms: Very Good
And with a weak military (4%) and a dictator, that seems a lot like a USSR nation in disguise minus the military, to be honest. If we were to go to war, I could beat you the way America beat the USSR -- through economic and political influence, and it would work quite well. So, I think we should all stop assuming threats. To be honest, with your low economy and low civil rights rating, inciting an anti-governmental revolution wouldn't be all that hard. Especially with my allies in The Tradelands, The Republic, and the Legion of Defence pressing on you.

"Mister Jalson, report!" the Sultan snapped.

Kledarian looked up at the weathered man and his escorts. "We've made contact with a faction calling itself the 'Yaforite Empire.' I've already taken the liberty of opening the communications logs for you," he informed his leader.

Emil nodded and scanned them, his steely gray eyes missing nothing. "Good, very good...I must admit I didn't expect anybody to discover us so soon."

Kledarian looked puzzled; he opened his mouth to say something when the communications console beeped and flickered as a new signal came into existance. Like a flash his hands moved over the console, taking only 8 seconds to clean and translate the message.

We are the Hiigaran Empirial Ship Andromeda. We are a communication and cartography vessel that has jumped to this planet to make peaceable relations with any and all forces possible. We ask why IYS forces have a large military force stationed in high orbit around a planet that does not belong to the IYS empire.
We also wish to establish communications with the dwelers of this fine gem they have found to possibly initiate non-agression pacts and trade.

Emil nodded slowly and said, "We'll have to deal with them later, the Yaforites should be our primary concern."

"We're recieving another transmission on the Yaforite frequency," Kledarian piped up.

Good. I will introduce myself there; I have the authority to converse with him face to face. I presume that I have landing clearance

What used to be the entire bridge crew of the Effulgent Scimitar was now present. The ship's science officer looked up from the ship's sensor suite, which had been expanded as the ship was being converted into a more permanant installation.

"My liege," he said. "I'm detecting a large ship landing on the surface not far from here."

Emil nodded and signalled four lightly armoured men who passed for Santarian security forces. "Come with me, somebody should be there to meet them. I figure there's nothing to lose "

----- -=-=- ----- -=-=- -----

Even as the the IYS Iglesias came down, three lightly armed ancient shuttlecraft crested the horizon, moving as fast as their thrusters would allow in the gravitational field of the planet. Once within a kilometer of the ship, their speed halved, then quartered until they were at a leisurely hover just outside the ship. Silence reigned as the trio of ships slowly descended to the surface, tension high amongst their crews.

Also, I'd like to ask wheather or not your fine captain has undergone the same biological modifications that the Master Chief has undergone. Most people who rp having Spartans don't realize this, but the MC has had most of his body re-built. All his muscle replaced and genetically enhanced, his bones plated with Titanium, drugs that stimulate faster and more useful firing of the nuerons, etc. In fact, over 50% of all the Spartans who had these operations on them died from complications of the proceedures alone. If he is a normal human, than let me tell you what is going to happen to him, and this is quoted, as best as I can remember, from The Fall of Reach.

*The video that was shone to the Spartans of what happens to regular people when they put on the MJOLNR armor.*

"The man, through laborious work and with much assistance, put on the half-ton of armor, circuitry, and artificial muscle that was the Mark IV MJOLNR armor. The armor was then activated, and a voice from behind the camera asked him to raise his right arm. He complied, and the reactoin was tragic. The suit lifted up with lightning speed, and the man's arm wrapped around the back of his body, sheared off to mere ligaments holding his arm together. He screamed and writhed in utter agony as he reached over, his left arm suffering a similar fate. His legs then buckled, and he fell to the floor, his own pain induced spams killing him and causing his spinal cord to smap in a matter of seconds. His dying tremors, amplified by the suit, made them seem like dying siezures as his body shook, moving him nearly off-camera until, a few moments later, he finally died from asphyxia from the compression in his neck from his scream snapped his trachea."

BTW, are you telling me to vacate the area too?
