Samtonia

“Grain imports have exceeded the required quota from the following provinces once again: Flysburg, Rothschild, Greater Ecruscia…..”
As the speaker droned on, a very disinterested Minister of Agriculture barely listened. It wasn’t that Miko Yumatso didn’t care about agriculture; it was just that after four hours of statistics, graphs, and numbers, she was bored silly. She needed something else to do! And although these meetings were a necessary evil so she could stay well informed before the rest of the council, they were so boring!
“…New Haven, Klendathau, and Morlesburg. Foreign domestic imports have increased substantially from Safehaven2….” Yumatso jerked up at that one.
“What do you mean by ‘foreign domestic’? Why would you list foreign imports in a Samtonian agricultural presentation on Samtonian agriculture?” The speaker looked quickly through his notes.
“Well, Councilwoman Yumatso, it appears that Safehaven2 is Samtonian territory. I don’t know why it’s listed as such, possibly some type of typographic error…” He trailed off as Yumatso stormed from the room, muttering under her breath.
Samtonian Council of Thirteen Voting Member Meeting, Ministry Building 17
“And I want to know why we still haven’t handed them back their country!” yelled Yumatso at the Deputy Minister of Defense. “I and five other colleagues voted against our involvement in Brimstone and yet, with that large of a dissenting opinion, we still haven’t given them back their country?!”
Field Marshall Gambry was out of his league. Had the defense minister himself been there…..and yet, he wasn’t. “Madam Councilwoman, members of the Council. I have no idea as to why this matter was not placed on the top slot of daily briefings. I cannot begin to imagine why we have not followed up on this matter. The only explanation is that the bureaucracy is running that country now...Safehaven2, I believe it was…and that means that it was never brought forward as a matter of importance.”
Archbishop Weakland leaned forward. “I voted against involvement and I’ll do it again. So, as of now, I call for a vote on Safehaven2. I demand we immediately give those people their nation back, with the necessary details worked out by the Defense Ministry.”
A murmur of agreements ran around the oaken table as Minister X nodded his agreement. “A vote will proceed. All in favor of vacating Safehaven2?” Every hand went up, other than the Deputy Defense minister.
Minister X nodded. “Very well. The Ministry of Defense will control the exit. However, rest assured, Safehaven2 will become their own country once more.” The wheels were in motion. The last foreign nation occupied by Samtonia would be let go of and Samtonia would be a conqueror no longer. Heady stuff, decided in less than five minutes. Such was the way Samtonia worked.
