The Beijing Conference (Earth II only)

Dragon-Premier Suun was in his element as he approved the latest seating draft. NeoSuun Zhonghua had been given the honour of hosting the peace conference between the nations who had been warring over the Ecuadorian area until a recent ceasefire. State propaganda explained to the general populace that the Middle Kingdom was once again required to help bring order to a chaotic planet; it was requested that all citizens show the arriving delegates every courtesy possible.

The security presence in the capital was usually high due to the personality cults that hailed Suun as the Son of Heaven, but with the imminent arrival of a number of renowned world leaders the capital was put on an even higher security footing. Suun's elite military guardsmen, the Dragon's Claws, were on standby to supplement the security being brought by the incoming rulers if they so desired. Not that Suun was expecting any trouble; he simply wanted his visitors to know that he regarded their well-being as his highest priority.

(OOC: Will there be any other attendees aside from Lay and Yelm, or is just the two of you guys?)

TLS said he was attending.

The Emperor was not attending, as originally planned. The nearly imminent war in Europe required him to stay in Layarteb City. He was, instead, sending his Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The VC-25B Condor took off from Layarteb City on time and on schedule. The trip from there to Beijing would be a total of 6,830 miles and just under 14 hours. Onboard was the Minister, his immediate bodyguard staff, which consisted of two Force Victor teams of 8 mean each, and about two dozen aides.

The fourteen hour trip was made easily, no major problems or events. They have flown up to the Arctic Circle and flew down from there, using the shortest path possible.

"Beijing International, this is Layarteb Condor transporting for conference, request vector to land."

The modified 727 Jet aircraft began enterring Marimaian(sp?) held airspace. Warlord Javs Lovik was awaken softly by a nearby aide, "Warlord we are nearing our destination." The Warlord nodded and sat up straight in his seat, peering outside his window.

The airforce pilot in the cockpit switched his onboard radio to an open channel. Beijing Airport, this is Flight 1228 for the peace conference. Please direct us to an open runway to begin landing procedures."

(OOC: Don't forget, in EII my nation is called NeoSuun Zhonghua; everything is described as either Zhonghuan or Chinese)

The con tower began issuing directions as instructed by the on-hand governmental liaison.

"Layarteb Condor, turn 23 degrees left, vector to Runway Alpha-Zero. Please expect to be greeted by Foreign Minister Bei Rongyi."

"Flight 228 from Yelm, turn 9 degrees right, vector to Runway Alpha-Two. Please expect to be greeted by Special Envoy Fan Dianrui."

(OOC: To both planes) "Welcome to the Middle Kingdom of NeoSuun Zhonghua, friendly delegates. We hope that you have a pleasant and productive stay in our nation; His Excellency Dragon-Premier Suun is eager to assist you in any way he can."

As the aircraft came in to land, the occupants would be able to see the impressive welcoming committees laid on by the Zhonghuan government. Neat lines of organised military personnel flanked red carpets; high-ranking Zhonghuan officials waited on a nearby podium for their cue to greet the new arrivals. A full military band was on hand at both runways, and young children were on standby with bouquets of flowers.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs stepped off the plane and smiled. "What a perfect greeting." He bowed to everyone he met, accepted the flowers, and brought his own offering to the Zhonghuan land and people. In the Empire, one of the most common gifts to dignitaries and high-ranking officials was a specially crafted sword, not meant for fighting but rather displaying. He brought one with him for the Zhonghuan president, as well as a dagger, with the inscriptions. The tradition went back to the time when it was under the control of Tnemrot, when an historic warrior travelled with the Middle World with a sword and dagger and defeated the gods.

Warlord Lovik was surprized by the large crowd that had greeted his arrival. Though we was not accustomed to such a greeting he tried his best to seem like a generous person. He shook hands, and smiled brightly. Lovik looked around and spotted what he believed would be his escort. He walked up to the person, "I believe you will be directing us to the conference?"

Runway Alpha-Zero

Foreign Minister Bei was greatly impressed with his Layartebian counterpart; although the Zhonghuan state sometimes regarded itself as the only truly civilised power on Earth, they had developed respect for the Empire of Layarteb. After much bowing and shaking of hands in front of the press, the national anthems of both nations were played before the Layartebian delegation was escorted to the nearby convoy of limousines.

Runway Alpha-Two

Fan Dianrui welcomed Lovik with a dignified bow and handshake.

"Welcome, most esteemed warlord. My name is Fan Dianrui, special envoy of the Dragon-Premier. He wishes he could be here to greet you personally, but he is currently engaged in matters of state security. If you would like to follow me, we shall escort you to the conference venue momentarily, after we have properly welcomed you of course."

Lovik was led up to a podium to watch a small military display as the national anthems were played, then he and his entourage were led to the waiting limousines.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The delegations were driven down the centre of Beijing, with cheering crowds flanking the roads; most of the crowds were stage-managed by the Zhonghuans to make their guests feel welcome, but a few crowd members had turned up out of genuine interest. The two delegations finally arrived in Tiananmen Square; from there they were taken to the Forbidden City, once a preserved historical site but now home of the Dragon-Premier and the venue for the peace conference.

The delegations were escorted to their quarters, each occupying a different guest apartment complex, and given time to settle in.

The Layartebian delegation settled into their living quarters peacefully. The city they had been taken to was glorious, ancient, a living relic of the time. The place was massive, 720,000 square meters, 800 buildings and 9,999 rooms. It would take a whole army to search the place in the event of a war.

:: shall we fast forward to the conference now ::

The Layartebian Minister of Foreign Affairs would be seated as the conference began. The single, most important question he would be asking was, more or less, "Why?" The Empire wanted to know why the Yelmish government saw fit to turn Ecuador into a corpse ridden wasteland and under what pretext. Ecuador was home to many citizens of the Empire, homes that were ravaged by cruise missiles.
