Well here is what I'd suggest.
1. Look at some posts in these forums for some tips on how to RP.
2. Try to make a intro post such as a civil war or terrorism (Guidline only. They have been done to hell). Be inventive and creative.
3. Ask someone better than me.
4. Have fun.

The stickies at the top of the forum are nice.
A good way to start out is to create a factbook about who you are and any specifics.
Open an embassy thread and condemn or praise a few things.
