Aysheaian-based Uplink corporation today announced the successful launch of their Phoenix-K rocket, securing Aysheaias place as a space power. The Phoenix-K, an unmanned reuseable single-stage-to-orbit cargo rocket designed to be cost-competitive with rockets such as the Delta II and Arienne, carried no payload on this, its first flight. Uplink believes that this design will ultimately reduce the cost per pound of transporting cargo to low earth orbit to $1000.
*Movie of a small rocket lifting off and accelerating rapidly upwards. Cheering people can be seen around the camera.*
Uplink has announced that their first three commercial flights, carrying the ACSat 1 communications satellite and two undisclosed private payloads, will follow within the next week as a demonstration of the ease and speed with which a Phoenix-K can be prepared for flight.
