IC:
In the vastness of our elegant universe, everyone has their part to play. Shakespeare once said that all the world's a stage, and men are just players. But what if we turned the clock back? What if the actors wrote the script differently? What if the truths we know, were changed? Would we still be the same?
Obi-Wan Kenobi looked out of the window of the republic consular ship, letting his mind fall free, clearing of all thoughts, emotions, and feelings. He sat cross-legged on his cot, his light saber partially disassembled in front of him, sitting on a cleaning rag. As he meditated, a light flashed on the wall panel next to the door. It was five minutes until the ship left hyperspace and began heading towards the planet of Naboo.
Re-assembling his lightsaber and pocketing the rag, Obi-Wan reached for his cloak. As he went through the final preparations for the mission, he recounted everything he knew about the Trade Federation’s blockade here.
The blockade was done because of a new tax put on intergalactic shipping. But why Naboo? There were plenty of other systems out there, what was the advantage? There was more to it than the Naboo’s pacifistic nature, but the way was shrouded. Maybe the negotiations would clean that up.
But there is something out there..., he thought, I can feel it. Elusive, dark. The mists come from there.
Opening the door to his quarters, Obi-Wan proceeded to the bridge of the ship. As he entered the cramped area, he noticed that master Qui-Gonn was already present. “Hello Master,” he said amiably as he sat down, “How much longer until we get to play negotiators again?”

Qui-Gon Jinn was standing on the bridge when Obi-Wan arrived. He nodded at his apprentice's greeting.
"We should be in the Trade Federation's Command Ship in a matter of minutes. How long until we're actually negotiating depends upon how long the Nemoidian bureaucracy decides to keep us waiting."
The Jedi Master looked over at his Padawan.
"Your thoughts are troubled, Obi-Wan. Do not allow a distant disturbance in the Force to distract you from the requirements of the here and now."

"Yes Master." said Obi-Wan, slightly embarassed. Now seemed as good a time as ever to voice his concerns. Waiting might possibly endanger them down the road, and would interfere with this or another mission.
Looking over at Qui-Gonn, he continued. "I sense something beyond our mission here. Something far away, yet near. That is where the mists seem to be coming from. But whenever I try and find this disturbance, it is gone."

Qui-Gon looked at his apprentice. He was a wise man, but he was also young, and impetuous. There were things he often did not have the patience for...but Qui-Gon had the feeling that there was something wrong with the universe, as well.
"Think on it later, Obi-Wan. Now, what can you tell me about the present situation with the Trade Federation and the Naboo?"
Qui-Gon had read the facts they had been given...this was a test for his apprentice, and a focusing activity. The same type as he'd used since the boy was thirteen, and he'd accepted him as Padawan.

Obi-Wan looked almost surprised at his master. Hadn't Qui-Gonn read the same things he had? But then it dawned on him that this must be a test.
"Well, the superficial justification for the blockade is taxation. They are trying to force the senate to reconsider its tax laws on trade routes, and Naboo is the hostage.
However, there is a plot within this plot. Naboo, while being a world that couldn't resist a blockade, is not a world that would be considered to be highly strategic. The only other thing going for it is Senator Palpatine, a strong but at times unpopular man of the people in the Senate. There are other planets that would be far more effective.
This move is bolder than what the Trade Federation would usually do. There's something beneath all of this."

"What of the Naboo government?"
*Up front*
"Coming out of hyperspace."
The ship dropped out of hyperspace, and the stars stopped moving and became stationary points.
The captain spoke up. "Open a channel to the Federation's ship."
*Copilot* "Channel open, Sir."

"What of the Naboo government?"
"Umm... it's an elected monarchy. The Monarch appoints multiple advisors. Currently lead by.... Padme Amidala? Yes, Amidala, she's the youngest queen they've ever had, fourteen I believe.
Their security force is mostly police, and riot control. No major military branches except for the space force, which operates some of the most advanced fighters in the galaxy. Domestic models I believe.
Their stance for foreign affairs is staunchly pacifist, and they are big lobbiers for negotiations in the Senate."

"Which is part of the reason we are here now. What do you know of the Trade Federation?"

13-08-2005, 07:39
Obi-Wan strained his memory, searching for everything he knew. Information on the Trade Federation was sparse on their mission breifing.
"The Trade Federation is a tightly bound group of merchants. They are powerful enough that they have a seat in the senate. They are led by a viceroy, Nute Gunnery I think is the current one. They have their own army and navy, and can take their own taxes I believe, but that would only apply to their trade routes. They like droids quite a bit if I remember correctly."
Obi-Wan could think of no more about the Trade Federation, and glanced outside the cockpit at the distant Federation battleship. "Master, that's quite a few ships for something like a blockade."
Kaymiril
13-08-2005, 07:42
"Of course it is, Obi-Wan. If the situation were not so grossly out of proportion, and the aggressor more inclined to reason, would they be sending Jedi out at all? And Gunrey is here...we will be meeting with him."
Qui-Gon also looked out at the ships. He didn't want to say it...but...he had a bad feeling about this.

Obi-Wan could feel another slight tremor in the force. Like someone had thrown a stone into a lake, and he was just getting the faintest edge. But the mission at hand was more important. Shoving it out of his mind, he began studying the Federation ship's hangar.
"Master," he said, standing up and pulling his hooded cloak tight about himself, "there are a lot of military starfighters and quite a few atmospheric craft over there. This looks to be more than a blockade."
Obi-Wan turned towards his master, and got ready to disembark their ship.
Kaymiril
13-08-2005, 07:55
Qui-Gon merely raised an eyebrow at his Padawan. That the blockade had been more ought to have been evident for a time...something to work on, apparently.
"Come along, Obi-Wan."
He walked down the ramp, pulling down his hood. "These Federation types are cowards...these negotiations will be short."

Obi-Wan followed his master through a great steel blast door and into the habitation area of the great ship.
A new protocol droid motioned them into a confrence room, and abruptly left the two Jedi.
Fear. thought Obi-Wan, creasing his brow. It hangs in the air like mynocks on power cables. He walked over to the large viewport on the wall and began studying the emerald planet below, clearing his mind of distractions and searching through the force for the source of this fear.

"The Neimoidians, Padawan." But they aren't just afraid of us...
************************************************************
"Jedi," said one of the Nemoidians of rank. "We cannot risk angering them."
At that moment, the screen rippled as a communication came through.
The Nemoidian stepped forward. "What would you with us, Your Highness."
The Queen was in the traditional garb and makeup of the Naboo 'royalty.'
"I tire of your games, Viceroy. I am aware that the Chancellor's ambassadors are with you now, and that you have been forced to reach a settlement."
G -- "Really? I know nothing of any ambassadors."
A -- "Beware, Viceroy. The Senate will not allow this to continue."
The transmission cut from the Naboo side.
G -- *turning to aide* Kill the Jedi...we cannot risk direct confrontation.

Obi-Wan spun around to see a pale smoke drifting out of the airvents.
"Master! Dioxis!" Unhooking his lightsaber from his belt, Obi-Wan took a deep breath and stood against the wall next to the door.
Kaymiril
14-08-2005, 04:17
Qui-Gon likewise took a deep breath, standing at the other side of the door.
Now, all there was to do was wait....
Eventually, when the smoke had completely filled the room, the doors opened.
The protocol droid exited the room, and the Battle Droids were clearly visible.
Go on Corporal. We'll cover you.
Roger, roger.
As the droid stepped forward, so did Qui-Gon, igniting his lightsaber and nodding to Obi-Wan.
Battle Droids were easy targets. And since they weren't alive, there was no compunction to not destroy them.

Obi-Wan spun out into the open, deflecting a blaster bolt right back into a droid's weapon, causing an explosion large enough to topple two other droids over. Using the force, he jumped right into the middle of the battle droids and began systematicly deflecting bolts and slashing them to the ground.
Looking over, he saw his master crush the remaining droids with the force. Obi-Wan deactivated his lightsaber and jogged over to a wall panel, searching for the way to the bridge of the vessel. "Looks like the bridge is that way Master," he breathed, deactivating the panel.

"... and the he says, 'That's no Bantha, that's my wife!'"
The captain of the republic ship shook her head and went back to her magazine. Of course, it was not a 'magazine' in the traditional sense, but datapads can get constant updates for the subscription.
"You do knoy you've told that joke a million times," she said jokingly.
"Yeah, but... CAPTAIN LOOK!" he screamed, pointing out of the cockpit window. A large gun turret had spun out of the cieling and it was bearing down on them.
"SHIELDS UP!" was barely out of her mouth before the turret spoke. Four huge bolts of energy tore through the ship, demolishing everything. She had only time enough to grab the hand of her first mate and throw up her other arm before being incinerated.
-------------------------------------------
Obi-Wan stopped dead in his tracks and drew his lightsaber. Shaking his head clear, he began to jog again towards the bridge.
"MASTER!" he called after Qui-Gonn's retreating figure.
Kaymiril
14-08-2005, 04:53
Qui-Gon ignited his saber, feeling the disturbance in the Force as the ship was destroyed.
"Quickly, Obi-Wan."
Deactivating his saber, he put a hand on Obi-Wan's shoulder briefly, to give him a nudge in the direction they were going. He then began to rush toward the bridge.

Obi-Wan ran towards the bridge. Behind him, a squad of battle droids leapt out of cover and opened fire. Activating his lightsaber, Obi-Wan did his best to protect him and his master from this new assault.
Reaching the doors to the bridge, Obi-Wan immediatly began covering for Qui-Gonn as he began melting his way through. "Hurry, they just keep coming!"

Obi-Wan had just dispersed with the very last of the battle droids when he heard a metallic whirring sound. Strait in front of him and bearing down fast were three wheel-shaped objects, rolling down the hallway.
A twang of fear pierced his mind, but it was instantly brushed aside. "MASTER! DESTROYERS!"
Obi-Wan began deflecting blaster bolds back at the now deployed menaces, attempting to destroy them at range.
Kaymiril
14-08-2005, 05:27
Qui-Gon whipped his saber out of the doors to help his Padawan deflect the blasts.
"Move left...now."
He waited for his apprentice to begin moving before he did, then used his own Force-enhanced speed to move as well. Deactivating his saber, he opened a vent and preceeded his apprentice in.

14-08-2005, 05:44
Obi-Wan began entering the vent, placing his hand on the wall for balence. However, just as he stepped inside, a blaster bolt from a destroyer exploded a section of wall right next to him.
White hot fire spread throughout Obi-Wan's hand and wrist. Obi-Wan screamed, pulling his right arm inside and close to himself, gripping his saber tightly in his injured hand. He clambored farther into the shaft to allow Qui-Gonn room to come in, but already he could feel blood welling out from his pierced appendage.
Slouching against the side of the shaft, Obi-Wan began fumbling for his medpack on his belt. "Master...," he breathed, sweat pouring down his face, "I don't think it was a direct hit." Concentrate. Let the pain flow through me and leave. The pain is only mental. "I can't seem to be able to get at my medpack, have you got one handy?"
Obi-Wan slowly pried his injured hand off his lightsaber while waiting for an answer.
Kaymiril
14-08-2005, 05:49
Qui-Gon yanked his Padawan the rest of the way in and shut the shaft behind him.
"Breathe, Obi-Wan." He took his Padawan's saber and got his medpack. "This is going to sting a bit."
He began to tend the wound, swiftly, but accurately...a numbing agent, then a bacta wrap.
"You've got a second degree burn, and nasty cut right in the center. Fortunately, it wasn't direct. Are you all right to move?"
No endorse
14-08-2005, 05:57
"ERGH! Yes, I can AGH! move," he said, breathing heavily in the deep pain. Slowly, the numbing medication took effect, cooling his entire arm. Relaxing, Obi-Wan began testing his deeply scratched lightsaber.
"Looks like it's allright. A few of the power cells are leaking though." Obi-Wan removed the offending cells, replacing them with fresh ones from his belt. As Qui-Gonn continued to work on his hand, Obi-Wan felt the healing properties of Bacta at work.
When Qui-Gonn had finished, he began testing his fingers and slowly moving his wrist. "We're good for the time being. Now what should we do master?"
Kaymiril
14-08-2005, 06:00
"We go this way...toward the hangar, where we might be able to get a transport."

14-08-2005, 20:03
Obi-Wan clambored in the direction of the hangar, watching his master's silhouette navigate the labyrinth of ventilation shafts.
We're in the thick of it now. I'll need to be extra cautious and not be a drain on the mission. Bacta or no, this hand won't last long in a real encounter.
Following Qui-Gon through a sharp turn to the right, he reached a grating high above the floor of the main hangar. Peeking through a gap in the grating, Obi-Wan saw dozens of armored repulsor vehicles and hundreds of battle droids.
"Looks like an invasion army. We were right in suspecting something more behind the blockade. But why invade Naboo?"
Kaymiril
14-08-2005, 20:08
"I don't know...there's no logic in the Federation's move here. We'd better stow away on these transports...probably on separate ones. If you can't find me soon after landing, we'll meet in the capital city. The next obvious move is the capture of the Queen...so we must move to intercept."
The Jedi Master opened the grate and jumped down, then looked for his apprentice to follow.

Obi-Wan held his right hand close to his chest and jumped down after Qui-Gon, making sure to not disturb the medical wrap on it. Landing almost silently next to his Master, Obi-Wan ducked behind a nearby crate.
"Well master, you were right about one thing. The negotiations were short."
Kaymiril
14-08-2005, 20:25
Qui-Gon almost rolled his eyes, exasperated. "Well, at least you haven't lost your sense of humor. Now...I'll take that transport, and you take that one. This is an excellent opportunity for you to work on your Force healing, Obi-Wan...and while you're down there, try not to get into too much trouble."

"Yes master." Obi-Wan began sneaking over to a long line of repulsorcraft. He looked over and saw Qui-Gon heading for one on the next ship over.
Obi-Wan approached a large vehicle, designated as an 'AAT.' Opening a maintenance hatch, he hunkered down to wait in a small crawlspace. Suddenly, he felt the large vehicle move forewards, upwards, and then turn and go backwards. After what seemed like ages, he felt it move again, presumably it was the whole landing craft he was on.
Oh I sure hope I meet back up with Qui-Gon at some point.
Kaymiril
14-08-2005, 22:19
Qui-Gon sat somewhat uncomfortably in his transport...he was a big man, and this was a small space. He forced himself to relax and let go of his discomfort.
He was really more worried about Obi-Wan. While younger and faster, he had little experience on his own.
Well...I'll just have to find him when we get to the planet.

*Meanwhile, on Naboo*
A -- "An invasion? They can't dare, the Senate will never allow ---!"
Amidala was interrupted by one of the council as he reminded her that the Senate was doing nothing.
A -- "Chancellor Valorum promised to send Ambassadors...and Senator Palpatine swore that the Senate would act before anything drastic occurred."
"The Senate has failed us, Your Highness...and our Security Volunteers are no match for the droid armies of the Trade Federation. What should we do."
Amidala slumped slightly, feeling powerless against the forces threatening her. Why here and now? Why me for Queen, at so young an age?
A -- "I will not condone a course of action that will lead us to war."

Obi-Wan tumbled out of the side hatch of the transport he stowed away in. Running as quickly as he could on his cramped legs, he tried to get as far away from that one as possible. Suddenly, his ride exploded, mushrooming huge puffs of smoke and crashing to the ground.
Smirking and shaking his head, Obi-Wan continued to sprint away, towards what appeared to be a swamp. I've gotta find Qui-Gon. he thought, dodging through the trees.
Unfortionatly, his exploit with the AAT had drawn the attention of a pair of attack speeders. Blaster bolts began raining down from the heavens, forcing him to dodge left, right, and under branches. Obi-Wan attempted to grab at his saber with his injured hand, but the pain was still great.
I've got a bad feeling about this... there may be some shrapnel still inside. And these speeders aren't helping matters. We're supposed to be negotiators here, not cannon fodder!
Obi-Wan ducked under a bush for a second, confusing his pursuers. Reaching out through the Force, he felt his Master's presence, and began running again.

Qui-Gon knew that Obi-Wan was near, and he had a rough idea where he was. However, he was still trying to not get run over.
The frog-creature was simply standing there, starting to move, but not fast enough, so Qui-Gon knocked him to the ground before laying flat himself.
A couple of transports passed over them, and Qui-Gon got up, knocking dust from his robes and continuing to head toward Obi-Wan.

Using the Force, he found the shrapnel and carbon grains in his apprentice's palm, and drew them out. This would hurt, since one or two went in fairly deep.
He then administered a pain-killer and a bacta wrap. He made the bandage tight and water proof.

It wasn't necessary, of course...Obi-Wan hadn't been prone to wander off for years now...but for those first couple of years...he'd been a curious young Padawan who had never set foot out of the Temple. He wanted to know and see everything...Qui-Gon remembered the days when he'd been prone to that well, and had never -- well, rarely -- gotten angry with his apprentice for wandering off.

Captain Panaka surveyed the various charts and maps, and sighed. This was not anticipated by anyone, a mistake they would have to redeem later. He took the message from a volunteer and thanked him. He had been chosen to continually report to the Queen, and portraying such a drastic situation as one with even a little hope was a task in itself, without having to coordinate Palace defenses aswell.
As he stepped into the Throne Room several polititians looked up, but only Queen Amidala managed a grim smile.
"Your Highness, we have decided to move our entire force into the palace to counter an assault to capture you, or worse." He relaxed slightly, "If necessary, we can use pilots for extra manpower although equipment shortages could leave more in reserve than combat."

'Amidala' looked toward one of her handmaidens, who shook her head slightly.
"No, Captain. The people need to be protected. If something happens to me, another ruler can be elected."

Boss Nass sat in his council chamber, meditating. The day had been quite trying for the massive Gungan. Several high placed Bongo makers were disgruntled, and there had been unexplained stampeeds of the swamp creatures.
Suddenly, that clumsy fool he had banished some time ago entered the chamber, with a pair of humans no less! Peering past his thick eyelids, Boss Nass evaluated this new intrusion on the sanctuary of the council chamber. One of the humans was quite younger than the other, an apprentice maye? He also appeared to have wound on his hand, although the dressings prevented him from seeing how severe it was.
What was the name of that bafoon again? Binksssssss..... yes, that was it. He would get a permenant punishment this time.
"Whosa would dare to bring outlanders into da council chamber?"

Jar Jar looked at him apprehansively. "Sire, issa Jar Jar Binx. Theesa Jedi. Weesa in danger, They come to warn us. Warn Naboo, too. Theresa big army come dissa way." Jar Jar hoped that would catch Boss Nass's atention long enough to keep him from getting mad at Jar Jar for breaking banishment.

Boss Nass inwardly sighed. That might explain the stampeeds. But why did this fool think it mattered? And why both violate his banishment AND bring in outlanders? Truly Binks was crazy...
"An army against the Naboo you spake? Tis no concern of ours, tis new weesong. The Naboo think they so smarty. They think their brains so big."

At this point, Qui-Gon stepped forward.
"If you please...I am Qui-Gon Jinn, and this is my apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi. We need to get to the Naboo capital in order to warn and help them. We desire no conflicts with the Gungans."

"Wesa no carrrren about da Naboo."

Obi-Wan was having difficulty comprehending the situation. Didn't the Gungans understand?
"You and the Naboo form a symbiont circle. Anything that affects them will affect you, you must understand this."

OOC: ZP, Maineiacs informed us he would be gone. You do not have his permission to take his character, so what you are doing is a Godmode. This is not your thread, since you have shown little to no interest in it, and you may not take over someone else's char. Your post is null and void.

OOC: You started the idea, but you've been off with your Sith (which have disgusted all I have shown, as well as myself and NE), and you do NOT have Maineiacs's EXPRESS permission to RP his character.
You agreed to let him have that character. If you cannot abide by that agreement, I cannot trust you to RP properly AT ALL, and I will withdraw.

Obi-Wan caught up with Qui-Gon, and followed two paces back and slightly to the right. His mind was a whirr, taking in all that had just occured. Negotiation for another being's safety, a transport to the Naboo, it was very interesting.

Qui-Gon sent a gentle Force-nudge at his apprentice...a reminder to focus.
They were taken to a transport, and Qui-Gon got into the pilot's seat, as Obi-Wan's hand wouldn't allow for his antsy Padawan to properly control the ship.
The Jedi Master waited for Obi-Wan and JarJar to get into the transport, and then gently guided it out.
"You got injured at the most inconvenient time, Padawan. You know my dislike of this task."

"Why? You've had far better luck than I have with these blasted things." Turning towards Jar-Jar, Obi-Wan began light conversation, paying attention to both the creature and the outside envrionment.

"There's no such thing as luck, Padawan. Only the Force."
Qui-Gon had to resist the urge to chuckle. This reminder had passed back and forth between them hundreds...even thousands...of times over the years that he and Obi-Wan had been Master and Apprentice.
You'll find your RP buddy list very, very thin indeed.
OOC: I have no one on my buddy list...lol. But this post has no actual effect. It just serves two purposes: (1) I'm still in this RP (2) Give a little backdrop
IC:
He felt his tremors, he felt his pulses, the urges, the feelings, the emotions that raged within him, but he was patient man. His plan for his power would soon come to fruition, and yet, he felt a slight brief disconnection to the galaxy around him. For once of many times, he felt different. He felt unique; he felt alone. Good, He thought. For Palpatine was a shrewd fellow, a man who did not like many friends, but only for a small circle to be manipulated by his will. He had no real friends, and he intended not to. He merely needed arms and fists to extend his reach and influence into the galaxy, to tarnish the Jedi and the Republic in another name while he kept his power to himself. Senator Palpatine, they called him. A senator. The term disgusted him. He wanted more – more power, more control, more strength over the teeming masses of life that could sustain him for only so long.
For he was Darth Sidious, a follower of the Sith tradition, a true Sith, and he intended to pass along his knowledge to others. But whom?, He frequently. He was always thinking of the best apprentice to take, the best person to fall heard first in his shallow grasps, and the first his apprentices to be come another Sith Lord. He searched far and wide, under the mantle of secrecy, under the guise his Sith title, his true name. Not pathetic Palpatine, but sadistic Darth Sidious. He wanted strength, and he wanted it to grow, like another arm that wielded the Force in his own agenda of power. That was what Sidious wanted. But he had to wait, like all successful Sith before him.
It was true, that without such an apprentice, his task to complete the destruction of the Republic was foolhardy, but he knew that there were others willing to take into his grasp, and heed his words. The works of the Trade Federation, their vaunted movements, their half-slithered beliefs, were in a way connected to his own, but he had to keep his aspirations of war and domination away from his wayward roommates, the tenacious Jedi Warriors. For he was a Sith, and the dark side was widely ostracized in this great time, but Sidious persisted. He wanted power, and he was going to get it, no matter what the cost, no matter what the sacrifice. He would craft an apprentice himself, if need be, to do his work, but no matter what, they will no longer call him Senator anymore. They will address to him as the Emperor. He only needed one precious commodity; time.
